Stopped by here on a Friday while we were in the area. We'd checked the menu online and noticed it was about time for their happy hour food menu. Since I'd already eaten and was only planning to taste, and my husband wasn't super hungry either, we decided to pop in for that. There were only a couple of other small groups of people in the front dining space, so it was nice and quiet and there was plenty of available seating. My husband placed an order for the nachos with chicken and kale caesar salad. The food came out pretty quickly. The chicken on the nachos felt a little dry, but it was decent and the serving was actually bigger than we'd anticipated for a happy hour special. We enjoyed the kale caesar more. The pepitas and guacamole were a nice touch. The only thing I have to mention is that the guy taking our order at the bar literally never said a word to us besides the price when it was time to pay. All we got was a head nod or an "mhmm" whenever we asked a question. When we were leaving, he was chilling behind the bar and didn't acknowledge us even though there were people who'd been there before us who we'd heard him speaking to, and when they left they got a, "Thanks guys. We've been to Woods Chapel before and really enjoyed it. We recently came back and found out they've changed the menu to more of a Tex-Mex concept (as of May 5,2026). I was happy to see that many of the meats were still the same. I ordered the cilantro rice and esquites as my sides. I honestly didn't think I'd like the esquites, but they were really good! While I loved the old menu, this new one works too. I also had the Peach Smash, and it was great. The food came out quickly, the atmosphere was just as enjoyable as I remembered, and it's still a great, family-friendly spot. read more

Everything that used to make this one of my favorite barbecue spots is gone. In its place is the same soulless, homogenized, McMexican menu served up by too many restaurants in the city. Don't get me wrong, I love Mexican food, but if I'm going to eat it, I'm going somewhere authentic. Putting the words "Tex Mex" on your menu and serving everything with tortillas doesn't make your food authentic. In addition, the portions are smaller. The prices are comparatively higher, and the quality is much worse. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but that can't makeup for the mediocre food. This was a disappointing visit. This is a great causal dinner spot. They have a nice outdoor seating area for nice days. This would be a good spot for a larger group too since they have large table options. The food was yummy. We got the chicken enchiladas and pulled pork with honey cornbread. The enchiladas were spicy but tasty. They came with rice and beans. The pork was very tender and delicious. Came excited for some classic bbq and left slightly confused. As of May 5th they've changed to a Tex Mex Bbq place....tex mex bbq. A lot of people also seemed thrown off by the new menu. What we got: Two meat plates, the brisket and chopped beef, with queso mac and cheese, 2x honey butter cornbread and cilantro rice, cheerwine, a strawberry lemonade and ranch water for around $65. The meats taste great especially with the mustard bbq sauce. The other sides could have all been skipped honestly and I hate that. Rice was hard and bland, mac was cold, cornbread was burnt at the bottom. For $65 im expecting better portions and flavor. Service: person who took our order was great. Solid experience overall. I ordered the smoked wings and they were really nice and tender -- definitely the highlight for me. They had a great smoky flavor and were cooked well. I would have liked to see a few more BBQ sauce options, as I wasn't crazy about the ones offered. A little more variety there would take it up a notch. If you get anything though, make sure it's the mac and cheese. It was so good -- creamy, flavorful, and easily a standout side. I also appreciate the ordering setup. You order and pay upfront, then receive your food. I personally prefer this style of dining because once you're done, you can just get up and go instead of waiting around for the check. Passing through town on our way home to Cleveland, close friends picked us up at the ATL airport and brought us to this cute neighborhood for beers (down the street) and then a BBQ dinner at Wood's Chapel. You could smell the smoke upon arrival, so my "spidey senses" were immediately going off! Very low-key and basic inside, but I was there for the food so who cares?!?!? I ordered a two-meat platter to share with my wife...ribs, sliced brisket, mac-n-cheese, tater tots and an added side salad. The smoke ring on the brisket and ribs was evident, and the caramelized sauce on the ribs really hit the spot. Mac-n-cheese made with spiral noodles was mildly creamy and the tots were as crispy as they come and seasoned well. Side salad was crunchy and fresh. Unbelievably good bbq in the Summerhill area, with friendly service and a cool warehouse vibe The ambience and service were both terrific. The building has an old brick warehouse vibe with high ceilings, big windows and picnic tables. Staffers at both the order counter/bar and bringing the food to the table were friendly and helpful with suggestions. The food was amazingly good. It was popping at Wood's Chapel because of the Braves Block Party (which is one my favorite events at Summerhill). We were pretty hungry so we ordered our to-go food inside. The line moved pretty fast and I ordered a smoked turkey sandwich with a side of fries and my husband ordered a chopped brisket sandwich. It did take a minute for our food to come out, understandably so. However, it was so worth the wait because our food was delicious. The turkey on my sandwich must have been brined because it was super moist and not dry at all. It had a pretty good flavor, but not overly salty. The sandwich was served with avocado, lettuce and pickled onion but opted out of the spicy mayo. I did add some of their honey mustard BBQ sauce and that was delicious. At the end of the day, this is a neat BBQ spot located off of Downtown Atlanta in the Auburn District. I went here after Sunday service at a nearby church. When we went inside, the setup was neat and I like how it had the feel of a real BBQ spot. I ordered the ribs and smoked wings and my guest ordered the smoked Turkey and brisket. The sauces were on the side and we dove in. The wings were very good. Nice and juicy and the ribs just right. Very friendly staff and the prices are reasonable. Plus, you get plenty of food. Ok, let me first say that the brisket grilled cheese was really, really tasty! That alone would have warranted a 5 star review coupled with the friendly service and freshness of food. Could use a little more meat, but I digress. However... The BRAISED GREENS were honestly the worst greens I've ever tasted. I say tasted because after two bites (had to confirm), I couldn't eat another. It was like eating sugary greens with a chaser of balsamic vinegar. Though visible, there was no garlic taste within arm's reach because it was overshadowed by whatever sweetener they used. For such a simple side, it really ruined the meal for me. Ah well. This is one of our favorite places to eat, so I am shocked that I haven't reviewed it yet. You order at the counter, they give you a number, and then you sit down and wait for your food. They have all sorts of cocktail drinks and lovely slushies that you can enjoy. I prefer the Coke bourbon slushy. They have some games in the back room, and there is cornhole outside. There is a large patio that you can sit on, but if you prefer the air conditioning, you can enjoy the inside. My favorite time to eat here is Saturday because they have salmon on Saturdays. They used to have it all the time, but it's only on Saturday. I love their mac and cheese, and their beet slaw is phenomenal and unique. I have been coming here for a while so I'm surprised that I haven't reviewed it earlier. Lots to like! The corn is amazing, the beans are also great. The brisket and pulled pork are my go to but lately we have been getting the catfish. Good music, a few fun games in the back. What's not to love? Easy breezy good times and great food. Large patio and believe it or a not a decent place to work for a short time. The long tables are close to outlets. Bench seating and fairly loud but good music aren't great for major work or study sessions but certainly ideal for a quickie while refueling. Stay away from the frose if working tho! read more

I visited here awhile back in 2022 first time I was a newbie. I got a order of chicken wings with sauce and sliced brisket with pickles and onions. Going to this place at the first time I tried just that and I don't remember fully scanning the menu at the time. I ordered from the outside at the time park by the pizza building and I didn't visit inside. It was summertime and kind of crowded outside sitting at a bench with other people waiting for their orders some people by their self other people with pet dogs. This time I actually checked the menu online before I visited. They have a full bar available for those who want a drink. I came here in person so I had a idea of what I wanted. I also checked the menu while inside of the restaurant. I'm glad that I came back when I did it was not real busy at the time just right for me to place my order and go. I ordered the grilled cheese brisket sandwich or melt and the brisket sandwich and a banana pudding. The brisket melt is delicious! I got 3 individual sauces 1 red sauce 2 mustard sauces. I dipped half of the melt in the red sauce the other half in the mustard sauce delicious! This sandwich is delicious it will definitely make me comeback! The brisket is winning here because they don't have beef ribs! I'm sure that my other food items will be delicious also. I live closer to this restaurant than I did previously being that I'm in Decatur GA and not Clarkston GA any more. Definitely worth the trip not a disappointment! After leaving a bad review, a partner in this business decided to reach out on Instagram and be super unprofessional. Just wanted y'all to know it was never about the community with their change. It was only about their intentions to be greedy and do any desperate attempt to keep that. Todd Ginsberg Needs training in the customer service department. It's so sad that a restaurant couldn't keep its own identity and now they're doing anything with this fusion to keep the doors open. Like debating the members of the community that didn't like change. I don't see these doors staying open much longer The original review! First off been coming to this spot for years at least 50 times; one of the few places I treat myself and after today probably won't go back. they took off all of their best items off the menu, no more greens, no more pork and beans, can't buy brisket by the pound 30$ or 1/2 pound 15$, now you can only get a 1/3 pound for 14$; and the manager claimed it was cheaper. That would make a pound 42$; less for more. this establishment should have used this new found energy to better their craft in BBQ, leveling up their game, being a staple for Atlanta. Instead They jumped into restaurant suicide with this Tex-Mex Fusion Idea; not considering the community that already loved what they brought to the table. not sure if it's new owner ship or management but even staff members feeling the same; the menu is ruined; Shows this wasn't thought out very well. First off, this is the second time I've ordered delivery from these guys where they've forgotten to put BBQ sauce in with the order. Seems kinda important for a BBQ joint right? As a result, the brisket Sammie I got was kinda meh without it. My side, the Mac and cheese, was bland and tasteless and barely had any sauce on it. Honestly felt like I was eating boiled macaroni. The service was fast and food was out very quickly! It was not too busy when I went, which was around 3 pm on a Friday. There was a sauce bar with different kinds of BBQ, Hot Sauce, mustards, etc. The food was yummy and the portions were pretty big! The sides were all really tasty, with my favorite being the Pork Beans! I am also not usually big on Mac and Cheese, but this Mac and Cheese was SO good! I was in the mood for a Cuban sandwich when I discovered Wood's Chapel BBQ has a "Cue-Bano" which had your typical ingredients but with smoked pork instead. The smokiness adds a nice, touch that offers a welcomed alternative to an already perfect sandwich. My favorite item I ordered were the "sticky" ribs which I believe are fried and dressed up with Korean flavors. So so good. I have to come back and try some more offerings. read more

The turkey was dryer than cereal, I had one bite and didnt touch it again, a total waste... the brisket was equally dry and disappointing. The chopped brisket was better but still needed lots of bbq sauce (which I ordered extra of and they forgot to put in our bag...). The pulled pork, ribs, and cornbread were probably the highlights. The Mac and cheese was a joke and should be avoided. The half chicken was equally dry. After being at the HOTlanta zoo, this place offered a very cool environment. Plenty of seating inside and out. Staff was great. Now, I eat a lot of brisket and this was some of the best brisket I've had in a very, very long time. KUDOS. Ribs were really good too. For those who know me. . . this was a lot of food. I could not eat all the beans or greens and sadly, I had to toss them because my hotel did not have a microwave but they were really good too. Beans might be a little spicy for the littles and greens could have had a bit more of a "twang" and I like spice in mine. Luckily, there is hot sauce and you can add your own spice. In ATL for the long weekend, and my friend said this was the BBQ joint to try out, so off we went. You order at the counter and then get yourself your non-alcoholic drink, silverware, BBQ sauces and then pick a table. The table have napkin dispensers on them, which is nice, as we know BBQ can get messy. Now onto the good stuff the food! With a group of four I was able to sample a good amount of food and here is my breakdown: Meats: Pulled Pork-very tender and flavorful. I used the mustard BBQ sauce on it and liked it with it. Also dipped some of the more liquid BBQ sauce on it (mop sauce I believe) and this was also good on it. Ribs-good and whatever sauce it had been cooked with was very good on it. Cheddar Sausage-Did not try, but husband loved it as well as another member in our group. Sides: Ranked in order of what I thought was yummy! 1. Baked beans-yummy 2. Tater Tots-Nice and crispy 3. Corn-Very good! Like a creamed corn and oh so tasty. 4. Mac & Cheese-It was good, just your average mac & cheese 5. Ceaser Salad-Made with kale so it had good crunch. Of all the restaurants I ate at on my trip to Atlanta, I think this was my favorite. BBQ was certainly on the list of things we needed to eat and Wood's Chapel BBQ satisfied. We came on a Tuesday afternoon for a later than usual lunch. It's nice and spacious. You order at the front then seat yourself. We ordered the pick two meat plate with chopped beef brisket, jalepeno & oaxaca cheese sausage, creamed corn, and mac and cheese. We also ordered some tortillas on the side. The meats were both delicious and unique. Sometimes BBQ is too dry and this was moist and tender. The mac and cheese was delicious too. The creamed corn seemed unique but I felt it lacked flavor. The tortillas were very surprising in that they were very good. I wouldn't have expected that! We just ordered it for the baby lol. The banana pudding was unique and a perfect way to end the meal. This place is super nice and always has ample seating indoors. They also share a patio space with picnic tables with the other joints in the block. That said, they are always understaff and had almost no waiters when we went on a weeknight. You head up to bar and order at the counter and someone gets you the food. The bar tender was solo, making drinks, collecting food orders and dispensing the card transactions. That meant a long line before orderin. The food when arrived was great. The salt pepper wings are worth trying and I are fried pickles. Great for sharing. Whoever designed this concept made a great use of space and had the entire family in mind. Upon walking into Woods Chapel BBQ, the location is humongous. Ample space, simple rustic design, very clean, and classic tribute to the idea of a BBQ Joint... You head over to the bar to place your order, and are given a number to take to your table. This allows for ease as it relates to ordering and seating as you can choose your table after you order and don't have to wait to be seated. The staff at the register was very pleasant and all smiles. The menu is spot on for a local bbq spot. It's not too in depth nor is it not enough. It has an option for whatever type of bbq feel you have in mind. I decided on a 1/2lb of Pulled Pork and a piece of Cornbread. MyMy ordered the Rib Plate with Braised Greens and Fries... As I'm sure you can imagine, I decided to sit outside as the weather was perfect for an outdoor vibe. Our food arrived within minutes, hot and pleasing to the eye. The aroma of bbq goodness hit your nose and instantly started to entice your hunger. This is an authentic bbq fix fit for the bbq lover in us all. The Pulled Pork was juicy and tender. It came with vinegar based 'au jus' styled sauce that compliments the meat very well. The cornbread was anal absolute form of southern comfort. I almost called my grandmother to ask her if she was in back making cornbread. LoL! This was far better than a standard piece of cornbread, I'm talking true cast-iron skillet honey butter type of cornbread. You must get a piece. The portions are a fit for the pricing. The flavors within the food are not only good, however, they deliver a comfort that can only come when you can taste the love in the food... This food experience was an absolute delight. The environment and food provide a great reason to come back over and over. Oh yeah, and the sweet tea is goodddddddddddd as well. It goes without saying that I will be back. I'll never go back and I live in this neighborhood. Didn't even get the chance to try the food. The cashier had such a bad attitude on the day of 12/27/25 around 5pm, I left. I felt pressured to order the meal with a meat and 2 sides. After it was made clear that I wanted half a pound of sausage and one side, twice. I don't eat meat. I was only with 1 other person who wasn't going to eat a full meal. She tried to convince us it would be cheaper when it wasn't about the cost. It was about amount of food. Even back to the cost of trying to convince us she was correct, it was a bunch of shaking her head, rolling her eyes, and she was wrong. It felt demeaning as if we couldn't count in the first place but we didn't care about that. Even if she wanted us to save money all the attitude was not the way to do it. She could've nicely said all of this. Long story short we went to our original bbq place later that evening and although it wasn't a short walk. I didn't regret it.
