I see Hahn regularly for a haircut/blowdry. My hair is curly/thin/frizzy and very difficult. Hahn gives me meticulous, beautiful haircuts and the best blow dry I've ever gotten! Went in last weekend for a prenatal massage. Left feeling more stressed than when I entered. This is not a spa, it is a salon that offers (very expensive) massage. My appointment started 10 minutes late, with no real apology. There is no separate waiting area for the spa, so it wasn't a relaxing wait listening to all of the customers come in/out and listening to the noisy salon. I was offered water and a bathroom which was good. Once they were ready for me, they brought me to a hallway where spa rooms are, but there is no real separation between this area and the salon. My massage room had a pocket door. Despite asking the massage therapist to turn up the spa sounds/music in my room TWICE, all I could hear was hair dryers, the Justin Beiber salon music, and even a group singalong to Happy Birthday. I was not at all relaxed and even the massage therapist said it drives her nuts that she can hear the outside music. The actual massage was just ok. I had complained of shoulder pain and felt like she didn't spend enough time on my shoulders. I also felt like there wasn't enough discretion when moving the sheets/making sure I was covered properly. Because we had started late, I carefully noted the time. I paid for a 50 minute massage, and got about 45 minutes. Had everything else gone well, I wouldn't have minded this point so much, but since the whole thing was not a pleasant experience, this annoyed me. When checking out, I politely noted my displeasure with the level of noise. Their attempt at an apology? To offer me a piece of birthday cake. Ha, no thanks. Needless to say, I won't be back. I got a promotion at Buywithme.com After getting lost a couple of times, i arrived sharp on time. The girl in the door was rude, asked me for my coupon, altough I had already given my number on the phone. I forgot it in the car, and took me 5 minutes to go and get it, then another 5 minutes to have the room set. The massage started at 19:10, and was supposed to last one hour. It was 19:50 when it finished, so actually it was a 40 minute massage, instead of one hour. The massager asked me what kind of massage I liked, and I asked for something with hard pressure, she replied she didn t do massages with a lot of pressure, and she only did relaxing massage. I said ok, it was an OK massage. Overall, I feel that if you have the discount coupon, they treat you different. I can t believe they are this rude to people who are paying 150us/hour for a massage. I went to DC to have my hair cut and colored. The good: My stylist, Cassandra, was on time and did a great job cutting my hair. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The salon is clean, lovely , and conveniently located right off I-95. The bad: After I was given highlights, I could not see any color in my hair. The stylist then applied a gloss to make it more noticeable. I could faintly tell there was some color applied. When I got home, my family thought I changed my mind about coloring my hair since none of them could see any color in my hair. I was charged for 2 different types of color processes coming out to $285. With the results I got, I am left feeling ripped off. read more

DO NOT BLOW DRY! I was given a gift card, so I went for a cut. It was OK. I never would have paid that much on my own, but why not with a gift card? After the cut, I had $25 left and the stylist and receptionist convinced me to schedule a deep conditioning treatment. Since I was quoted $50, I was OK with using the last of my gift card and only paying $25+tip out of pocket. So... on to the deep conditioning. I got there, was given to an assistant to wash my hair. She was very sweet and gave a great scalp massage, but there was confusion with what I was having done, so she actually went through the shampoo/conditioning process 3 TIMES before actually getting it right. It wasn't until I already had the deep conditioner on my hair and was under the hood that my stylist even came to say hello. She did absolutely nothing until it was done. Now, with my hair soaking wet after having the deep conditioner washed out, my stylist said "blow dry?" It's the middle of December and all I have is a wet pile of hair on my head. Why wouldn't you blow dry? I have very fine hair that only takes about 10 minutes to dry. So she dried it, I got up to pay, and I was SHOCKED when they told me $90!!!!!!!!!!!! $40 to blow dry my hair. That's $4 a MINUTE. That's $240 AN HOUR!!!!! They never warned me it would be extra (I know it's on the "menu" at the front desk, but really?) A salon that thinks it's as great as it does should really think about including this in the price of the service. Even if you increase the total price, at least it's not a massive shock afterward. I can't imagine any salon would want one of their clients walking out into a lobby and then out into the cold with a wet mop on their heads; what does that say about their customer care and quality of work??? Needless to say, I will NEVER go back here. Even if I was willing to spend the amounts they charge for things, there are much nicer salons with more updated and cleaner facilities in the area that I would choose. read more

I came in because I bought an amazing deal on buywithme for a haircut,color glaze, highlights,and mani/pedi for $99! You can also split the services for up to 6 months, I just did the hair stuff today so this review is just in regards to the hair. Honestly, I have never had a better color or cut in my life!! I have been to numerous salons esp on Newbury st and none of them compare to this one! Naomi did an amazing job on my hair!! I put my hair through alot(Im a blonde) so between dyeing,blowdrying and flatironing my hair it gets pretty damaged but she managed to make it look and feel healthy again without chopping it all off! I looked forward to my appointment with Alan today for a cut, partial foil and blow dry. He seemed to understand what I was striving for - longer look but at my shoulders or above a bit and sexy. What I got was a bob and it is awfully ugly. Worse, when I came home and measured the hair on each side, one side was about 3/4 inch longer. All this for $375 because he is some fancy stylist. This is Daryl Christopher not a chic place on Newbury Street with incredible stylists. The color is not matched. When I called, I was told that he was a master stylist and colorist as I was appalled by the price, cut, and was in tears. I have a good mind to dispute the charge on my credit card. Never should someone go there or go to Alan if you want your color matched, hair cut that suits you, or evenly cut hair! All are inexcusable. I have traveled the world and been to some of the best salons worldwide. I have paid less. This place is a rip off and it is really noisy in a sort of trashy way. Yuck! read more

It is a rare occasion I leave a negative review, but this salon deserves it. I had an appointment for an eyebrow wax and they receptionist told me to take a seat and that the esthetician would be with me shortly. 20 minutes AFTER my appointment was scheduled to start (mind you I was on my lunch break!) the esthetician finally finishes with another client and takes me. She does a decent job, but I felt the wax burning my eyebrow almost immediately. When I looked in the mirror after, she had indeed burned my eyebrow. For $30 dollars, to wait for 20 minutes and then to have a mediocre job done is not worth it. I will not be going back and I advise anyone else to build in a cushion of time for your appointment. read more

Worst up-do of my entire life. I walked in with a picture of a loose, casual, low bun with a few curls dangling down in the front and back. Very simple, very casual. After spending over an hour with the stylist, repeating, looser, lower, please allow some hair to fall, and repeatedly showing her the picture I wanted, I eventually gave up and walked out of there with a super high, super tight bun and two Jewish man curls hanging down in front. $80 later, utterly disappointed. Hanh Dao Ivas was my stylist, "master" colorist and stylist. I ended up going to supercuts, having them comb out my hair (Hanh teased my entire head), remove the rubber bands Hanh put in my hair, and curl it proper. Luckily, Supercuts sylist Leah saved the day. I will NEVER be returning here and I advice going elsewhere if you're looking for an updo. read more

After visiting the Waltham location many times for various services, a friend and I tried out the Boston Daryl Christopher for manicures. We were shown to a waiting area, which was in the same space as the nail techs doing manicures. We waited patiently for some time, and sat as the technician finished one patron, and the person left. The tech then just sat there for some time, first filing her own nails with the same file that was used on the patron (which didn't strike me as the most professional thing to do), and then getting up, walking around, and sitting down again. Finally she started shouting out our names in the room. This was our super serene introduction to services at the Boston Daryl Christopher--what a welcome!! She proceeded to scold us, and informed us, along with the entire room, that she had "called out" our names "many times" but we hadn't responded. At that point, nearly the whole room of people looked each other in surprise--she definitely *never* called out anyone's name since her last client left. Nevertheless, my friend bravely went first and had her nails done. When it was my turn, the tech was aghast that I wanted to shorten my nails (I think she wanted me to keep them long and gangly like hers, but I am not sure), but I confirmed that what was I preferred. She laughed. I did not. Then her cell phone rang, and she answered it while doing my manicure! When she finished her conversation (in which she complained she had to work late), she proceeded to tell me that she was just visiting the Boston DC for the day, and that her regular spot was at the Wayland outpost of the spa (I made a mental note never to go there). Manicure wasn't anything special, and I certainly did not appreciate my free gift with purchase: a heaping helping of attitude from gangly nail lady. All in all, I was not impressed by this DC. I walked in with my face quite eager, looking for it to be sweet. So what makes this facial organic, I wondered in my mind For the lady never told me, she just chit chatted and was kind. But the facial left me wanting and my face yearning for more She slathered, steamed and lathered and glanced at each pore. That was it, that was all and my face sort of had a glow. I came here with a BuyWithMe coupon expecting the same sub-par customer service I've gotten from other establishments when using a coupon but was pleasantly surprised. Even though I was very late (it is a little tricky to find) I was greeted warmly and my appointments were rearranged to get them all in that day. The atmosphere was relaxing but not so serene as to bore you to sleep. The salon is squeaky clean and perfectly organized. Eco-conscious products including nail polish without toluene. The fumes are minimal, but unfortunately doesn't last as long as the regular polish. Naomi cut my hair and did a great job staying within the length limit I had set while still giving it a nice shape without too many layers. I was in Boston 2 weeks ago on business and was exploring Newbury St on my last day. Upon passing Daryl Christopher Salon I decided with some trepidation to have my hair styled before heading to the airport. I hadn't seen my husband in a week so wanted to look fabulous when I got off the plane. The first thing you notice about Becca when you see her is her amazing sense of style. The next thing you notice is her warm and engaging personality... but the best part is how you look when you leave her chair... in a word FABULOUS! I didn't know my hair could look this good. I went to this salon because I had a BuyWithMe coupon. I got my hair highlighted and cut. I currently have chunky blonde highlights and asked her to follow the same size. She gave me extremely thin highlights so when i left my roots had thin highlights and there was a distinct line where my chunky highlights began. People made comments to me almost daily asking who did my hair because it looked like i still had roots. I also got a manicure and pedicure. The pedicure room is kind of gross, not exactly serene. Like others, I visited this salon with a Buywithme coupon. The manicure/pedicure were fine, the nail technician Jucely (sp?) was lovely and very accommodating. I was very excited to have my express highlights, cut, glaze and blow dry done as I was long overdue. I feel fortunate to have had Megan as my stylist. She heads up their color services and wasn't overwhelmed by my long, curly, wild hair. She took her time with me and also trained her assistant Rhiannon as she went along (for which she asked my permission, first). I was consulted as she progressed through the processes and liked that she was very confident. She trained in New York, and serves as a trainer for two salon lines. Three hours after I arrived for my hair services, I left with a great cut and fresh, vibrant new color. I received many compliments on the style and color as it was quite a noticeable difference; and I am very happy with my new style and highlights. If I had not had the coupon the true value of the hair services was over $300. I joked to my husband that the gratuities alone were more than I traditionally pay for a cut/blow dry (no color). I'd love to see Megan regularly however I feel that the rates charged are very expensive. It may have to serve as a rare treat for cut/color with her. I have gone to Daryl Christopher's three times. First time was perfect, if a tad slow. Second time, Angela was 15 minutes late...the whole color, cut and blow dry dragged on and on almost 3 hours. The outcome ok. The next time, Angela was 15 minutes late and then I had to wait another 15-20 between the color and cut. too much waiting. She did recognize the issue with free service. They didn't have me in the schedule and the stylist I was booked with was out sick. I had my appointment confirmation email...technology is great when it works. I really like this salon. I am not the type of person who will go out of my way to get a hair cut, but after finding this place, I could easily become that person. It's really difficult to find since there is so nice on the ground level of Newbury, but after riding up the elevator I came upon a very clean and nicely decorated salon. I had a 7 PM appointment (they close at 8pm) and did not feel rushed at all. Jopino, my stylist, gave me a great cut and style along with some pointers for at home. I think I was a bit tough on DC with my review below. Obviously my spa experience was sub-par; however, the salon is a different story. SO 5 ***** STARS for Ashley @ the Salon 0 STARS for the Spa I had a gift certificate for a massage and facial. Due to my spa experience I didn't want to waste money (even though it was a GC) on the spa again. I called and asked if I could use the GC for the salon and it was not a problem. I went back again to have my hair highlighted, cut, and blown out by Ashley. Ashley S. is amazing! I have dark hair and often colorists have a tough time coloring it. They either make it too red, brassy, or just not right. For the Summer, Ashley colored it a beautiful blonde/light brown. I have received so many compliments. Her prices are SO reasonable (and if it's a referral she'll give you 20% off - just message me and I'll give you the info). I love Ashley, and you will too! OH and GUYS - Ashley does a great job on haircuts for you too! Both of my guy friends who have hair that actually needs to be cut and not buzzed went to Ashley and loved the outcome. ------ Edited 7/6 - Below is from a couple of months ago: I'll sum my essay below in three words: Do NOT go for a facial. I had an excellent experience downstairs at DC with Ashley coloring and cutting my hair so I decided to give the spa a shot. My facial was for Friday; however, at 3:30 I received a call that it was canceled . . . OKAY. On Saturday, the Spa at DC called and said they charged my credit card b/c I was a no show. Well, first of all, how do you have my credit card?!!??? And, second of all, a no show??!! Your front desk called and said my facial was cancelled!!! Turns out every time you go pay for a service (like my boyfriend did when he had his haircut by Ashley) the receptionist stores your credit card information without permission. After being shocked on the phone from the credit card charge, I requested to be seen on Saturday for the facial I never received but I was charged for. "No problem" states DC. I arrive to DC at 1:55 for my facial. The facialist did not come and retrieve me until at least 2:10. Now to the facial: I swear I could have gone to a Chinatown nail salon and received the same treatment. Excuse my french, but it sucked! Literally this is what happened: 1. She placed a damp wet tissue paper in water, gently wiped sections of my face. She considered that clean? 2. She then placed the steamer barely on my face. I had to request her to move it closer - I was paying for a facial wasn't I? 3. She left the room for ten minutes, and did not come in once to check on me. 4. Extraction time took less than 2 minutes and I definitely had more than 2 minutes worth of work. And she used a needle. My small blackheads after a steam certainly did not need the help of a needle. In fact, I thought the needle was considered "archaic". 5. Dabbed some toner on my face and put on a mask. 6. Left the room for another 15 minutes. 7. Came back splattered some water on my face, removed the mask, dabbed some cream on my face and said "I opened your pores, you need to use a mask for two days, buy our mask". I replied "I have a mask by Kiehl's which seems to do the trick. She said "oh well you should buy ours and then come in for microdermabrasion". I am 24 years old, my skin is in pretty good shape, and she only looked at my face under the magnifying light for two minutes and now I need to sign up for $800 worth of microderm treatment?!! I have never had a worse facial in my entire life. I will never, ever, ever go back to DC's spa. DC's spa facilities are not impressive, especially for the price. Every other facial I have received, I have never had an esthetician leave the room for that long. With her leaving, my facial lasted about 20 minutes. Also, she was missing SO many elements of a "good facial". What she did, I could have done at home. PLUS after I left and went home I saw pimples on my cheeks - I have never had pimples on my cheeks. I guess that's why you shouldn't use dirty needles to extract. I have good skin - that was not needed and made my face worse. Who knows if that needle was actually clean? I am beyond disappointed and will be sure to spread the news about their spa. And if it wasn't for Ashley downstairs cutting and coloring hair, I would never go back. read more

The ugly: Unfortunately the front desk service is clueless at best - they mix up appointments, give out conflicting information, and take forever to calculate a simple bill. Special mention: When I wrote to the owner about a recent gigantic service mess I encountered, she was extremely responsive. I bought both BuyWithMe.com deals, and my first time at DC was for a manicure and pedicure, but I was sorely disappointed. Neither included any sort of scrub, masque, essential oils, or massage, and when I complained, I was told there was a mix-up and they said they would repeat the services as they were supposed to be, so I hope that my next trip there will be a more relaxing experience. This technician didn't know how to treat cuticles at all, and the polish job was laughable; my 9 year-old cousin could have done a much better job, and that's no exaggeration. This technician took a painfully long time to complete the services and glopped the polish on in thick coats, missing the sides of some of my nails completely, and got polish all over my cuticles and fingers. She spent a long time correcting her mistakes, and as she was correcting, she bumped her hand into my nail, ruining the polish job - and then she blamed me! After she finished, I pointed out several spots where I still had polish on my cuticles and she did more corrections, but she couldn't see the polish and she had to pull out her glasses. She kept correcting areas where there was no polish and missing areas where there was polish. She also kept on telling me that the nail polish on my cuticles would just "wash off" - I have extremely dry, sensitive skin, so all of the corrections she did irritated my hands, and I left Daryl Christopher with a messy polish job and rough cuticles/rough skin on both my hands and feet. Since I had gone out of my way for DC's BuyWithMe deal, expecting to get a relaxing treatment and experienced polish job, I was angry - I could have had a much better manicure/pedicure at the mall near my house without the travel or stress. I use BuyWithMe.com to try out new places, and I will often continue to travel out of my way for great services and pay full price, so I couldn't believe DC charges such high prices for such terrible work, even if this was their "regular" and not their "spa" manicure/pedicure. Last week, at another spa not far from DC, I had a fantastic $19 manicure that included a scrub, massage, and absolutely perfect cuticle trim and polish job that was done in no time at all and in a much prettier, more relaxing environment, and the manicure lasted a long time. After my DC manicure, the polish chipped terribly the very next day (not surprising given how she applied it), so I had to remove it, and I'm still (over a month later) mad over the wasted time and money. The nail services area at DC was ugly and it felt closed in; it was just a harsh, busy, unpleasant environment that seemed dirty and wasn't relaxing at all. I went back to DC for a facial that was a better experience than my manicure/pedicure, but it still left a lot to be desired. My other facials have been much more relaxing, indulgent experiences at prettier and less cluttered spas - and they cost less than the DC facial's $100 price tag. I told the technician that I had a special occasion coming up and to be as gentle as possible, but she performed extractions anyway without telling me and left blemishes. My facial didn't include the hand massage that was in the description; all she did was rub on lotion for less than thirty seconds, which I definitely don't consider a massage. Despite the fact that the facial was less than 40 minutes (not the advertised 50 minutes) she was quick to recommend products for the front desk to sell me. When I complained to the front desk about the quality of the services I had received up to that point, I was told that I shouldn't be complaining because I got such a great price for such expensive services. However, when the prices are so inflated and the services are so poor, a reduced price is not a good deal at all. I would have loved to have a new go-to place for nails or facials, but the quality of the services didn't match the price tag. Luckily, I finally had a good experience at DC this week with my express highlights, wash, color glaze, cut, and blow-dry with Donna. I'd never had hair color before, and Donna spent a long time talking to me beforehand to make sure I was comfortable. She was fun, outgoing, and she really listened to what I wanted both in color (something that looked natural that I didn't have to commit to) and in cut (a sharper angle in the front and a slight trim to keep it healthy while still maintaining the length). She was obviously experienced and she did a fantastic job, giving me beautiful, subtle highlights in my very dark hair that brought out so much warmth and dimension. Unlike every other stylist I've been to while growing out my hair, Donna actually didn't go overboard with the trim and kept my length; I absolutely love the cut, the highlights, and how healthy my hair is. I just wish the nail technician and facialist at DC were as good at their jobs as Donna is with hers, and I hope that I'll have a better experience when I return to DC for my next manicure/pedicure. read more

I bought the recent "buy with me" coupon for 2 massages. My sister and I went on a Sunday morning and both had wonderful massages by Cheryl. I was suffering from a sore back and neck thanks to a skiing injury and Cheryl made me feel so much better! She adjusted the pressure to be harder (as I requested) and made sure to spend extra time on the areas that were bothering me. She also didn't talk the whole time which I appreciated The salon is a little hard to find..you have to know going in that it is located inside of BSC / Healthpoint which is itself nestled in the back of a corporate office park. I was worried that the spa would feel too corporate, but its really just as nice as those located on Newbury Street. The rest of the salon staff was welcoming and they had tea, water and healthy snacks available. They also have a shower and locker room. I'm not sure what the deal is though, since I was only made aware of that when I asked. I used the shower which was fine,but the set-up seems a bit weird. I was unclear where to undress, if there were keys to the lockers, if I was supposed to use the robes that were hanging around,etc. Also, there was no hairdryer. All in all, I'd say just skip the shower. Everything else was perfect! read more

Was not what I expected. My highlight came out horrible. I don't even want to go out in public because its so bad. I have light patches on random spot and the color does not fade into the root. You can clearly see where they place their paper on my hair. I will probably have to go out and buy hair dye to cover up this mess. My hair cut was ok. I felt it was a bit rushed. I'm used of having the stylist spending close to an hour on my hair. This time it was under 30min because the stylist had another client coming in. Did not feel comfortable with the stylist at all. Would it kill to converse or smile? The 2 stars is for the nail technician. Very sweet lady made me feel comfortable and took her time to talk to me. She's not the best but because of her friendliness I can overlook the not so perfect polish job. read more

Overall, it's a pretty good spa/salon -- albeit fairly pricey -- but I think you have to be picky about who you see. The spa is great. I get my pedicures here when I can because Lyuda does a phenomenal job with shaping and exfoliating. One time, I walked down to my hair appointment and dinged my toe, so she came downstairs (while my hair was being done!) to fix it. Cuts are mixed. The first time I went in, the girl who cut my hair did it quickly, didn't add layers as I'd requested, and blew dry my hair somewhat carelessly so that it ended up being a little frizzy-- all because a regular client of hers was waiting, even though I'd specifically mentioned I had long hair when I made the appointment. I wouldn't have gone back, but a friend from work recommended I see Michael, and he did a great job with my hair -- really took his time cutting and styling it. I see him now when I need a really good cut and he always does a great job. It's not cheap though; it's now $80 to see him (yikes!) read more

i have been several times and received a mani, pedi, and 3 massages. The mani/pedi/1 massage were part of bachelorette party. The salon was very accomodating to all of us girls and scheduled everything perfectly so we got to spend some time together between services and no one was ever sitting in the waiting area alone. my mani/pedi were OK, but i wouldnt go back jsut for that. too pricey. and the room they do them in is all the way in the back and kind of substandard in design compared to the rest of the spa. of course, this was 2 years ago and maye things have changed. my 3 massages were the best though. coincidentally i always had a masseuse named Brad (Brandon?) and he was excellent. I had the last of the three BWM services today, a facial with Waneeta. My daughter had the mani/pedi last week with Justine, and I had the massage the week prior with...a young man, sorry, I forgot your name. Everyone, from the front desk on, has been a peach, and I know I was a trying client, even if were paying full price. I rebooked the facial twice, and then was 20 minutes late (I called ahead), and I was 15 minutes late for the massage. they could not have been nicer even though I'm sure they were annoyed. I would be. The masage (WISH I could remember his name) was terrific, and I've had plenty. Good amount of pressure, worked on all the problem spots. The mani/pedi looked good. My daughter's only had one before, so hard to compare. The facial was awesome. I was so relaxed, and my skin noticeably glows. Waneeta gave me advice, and recommended but did not hard-sell a moisturizer. She has a lovely manner, very calm. read more

I really like the people here, and feel I get what I pay for. Unlike the lady who is fine with super cuts, I came here after super cuts butchered my hair. I needed someone to fix my crooked hair style!!! I had Naomi and she was great. She asked a lot of questions about my habits, what I wanted and checked with me before she cut anything at all. I was very nervous, but she made me feel at ease. She gave me a style that suited my lifestyle and fixed the uneven cut I had before!! Very happy with this place! One recommendation: If you have never been before, go to the website and look up the directions. I was very confused because it is in the same building ad the Boston Sports Club and there are no signs outside. I drove around for a while before I called and looked them up on the internet. I have had a variety of services done at Daryl Christopher and I have thoroughly enjoyed every single one. Hilda is wonderful with hair, she knows exactly what to do without me even having to tell her. Ann Marie is amazing if you are interested in a massage; she is very kind and you feel rejuvenated after an hour with her. For a great facial, I would recommend Olga. Worst blow dry experience of my life. I'm surprised I have any hair left. My appointment was with Kitty. I came in to get my hair done for a wedding I was attending. Wash was fine, nice scalp massage. Then put my hair up without brushing it out, tearing through my hair during the whole blow dry. Didn't get the look I asked for, nor did she part my hair correctly, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. So I just spend $38 to go home and straighten my hair. Great. read more
