Unfortunately I don't have anything good to say about the management at Salon Astante. I understand that this business strictly adheres by their 24 hour cancellation policy, however, I strongly believe there should be exceptions to this rule, especially during COVID-19. I had an appointment scheduled with Anna at 11:45 for a partial highlight. I tested for COVID that morning before going to my appointment (taken as a precautionary measure.) I had tested positive, so I called the salon to tell them I would have to cancel the appointment. I spoke with the manager named Sam. She was not understanding at all and said that I would have to pay the cancellation fee of $150 due to the missed service. I've been a loyal client/customer for a year and a half, I've never cancelled or "no showed" for any appointment with Salon Astante. These were extenuating circumstances outside my control, which gave me no choice but to cancel. Sam attempted to charge my credit card even after I told her the charge would not go through since I'm waiting for a new credit card to arrive in the mail. This was just "bad business" in my opinion. I will not be returning and will be sure to spread the word about my poor experience. read more

I love the service I received at Astante just yesterday! I called them up in the morning to make an appointment and was able to get a same day cut and dry with Sarah, the senior stylist. I walked into the store quite unsure of what I wanted for my hair but Sarah was such a delight! She walked me through different options I had for fine hair like mine and we discussed the entire haircut before she even picked up her scissors. The consultation helped me make a decision and boom! what a haircut! Everyone loves it! We also walked through the different styles and products I could use in my daily life. Thank You, Sarah! Review for Nails- I really enjoyed my manicure and pedicure with Sam. Overall, the nail polish selection is fantastic. Love that they carry Zoya products. The pedicure was awesome- sometimes I don't feel like other spas will put in the effort through the process of cuticle maintenance, callous removal, massage process, but that was not the case with this experience. I think this experience is just as good if not better than when I've gotten my nails done at high end spas, like the Ritz! Overall, very happy with the experience and am excited to return. read more

Never been here before, decided to give this place a try when I needed a color and trim. First off, I'd like to elaborate on how their prices listed on the website are somewhat misleading. A haircut & blow dry "starts" at $65... Well apparently, my first-time appointment was with a "higher-end" hair dresser who had different pricing than the ones listed on the website. So instead of getting a haircut starting at $65, I got a haircut which started at $85.. $85?! That's a little outrageous if you ask me.. I was a little taken back by how much this cost me. I have very short, fine hair - all I wanted was the dead ends taken off because I'm trying to grow everything out. So don't get me wrong, I know the smallest of haircuts are usually all one fixed price, but it's just the fact I was not aware of this one particular hair dressers (who they scheduled me with) special pricing; resulting with me walking out as an unhappy customer paying a ridiculous amount of money for a haircut. I emailed the salon and got a snobby rude response that definitely made me want to take my business elsewhere. Their response (via email) said the following: "Next time if you specify that you want to spend $60 or $70, we can put you with a stylist at that level." ...Really? Um, okay. So, since this was my first time, how was I supposed to even know to specify I didn't want to pay a price that wasn't advertised on your website? As mentioned earlier, I understand that it says "starting at" for all their prices. It's just the fact that the different "levels" of hair dressers were not clarified on the website nor did they explain it to me during my first-time consultation. My second problem is the fact they rudely handled the overall situation. In today's economy businesses are highly competitive. This is not how any business should want to build their customer base.. Especially if you are new to the market. All in all, it was not the best experience. I'm not saying do go here, I'm just hoping this review will help them learn from their mistakes. Ciao! read more

We are living in the time of the Covid-19 virus and this salon takes no precautions moreover I reported it to the board of health. From out of town, I wanted a trim. A trim with no wash plus an eyebrow wax cost $95. Ridiculous. But worse, the stylist said "oh this brush only has my hair in it". I said "no". She got a new one. None of the combs were in the blue disinfectant. I person who did my eyebrows did not assure me that the materials used were clean and the utensils disinfected. I will never go to this place again. It is unlikely since I live in California but just the same, shame on these people! read more

Almost forgot to write this review, but since as per usual it was awesome service I just have to get the word out there. I went back to Salon Astante to get a gel manicure to fix a terrible one I'd gotten done earlier in the week. I just want to start out really quick by saying that this is NOT the place for large groups, the nail area is pretty small, with one station for manis and two chairs for pedis, and as far as I know there's only one girl who does nails. They have a huge range of colors to choose from, from OPI to shellac gel. So anyway I went in and Sam did my nails. Before I had booked the appointment the previous day she spent a lot of time going over the colors with me and helping me decide exactly what I wanted to get which I really appreciated. She was also super friendly and kept up conversation which was nice. I like that she took her time and didn't make me feel rushed, and did a great job. It's about a week later and my nails are still looking great! Basically, this salon has it all and I'd recommend it over and over again! read more

I haven't been to this salon yet, but I'm already unimpressed. I called looking to get a manicure and an eyebrow wax on Friday. The girl I spoke to on the phone told me they don't have a single nail tech or person who waxes that even works on a Friday. It wasn't that they were booked, they literally don't have anyone in the salon on Fridays who either waxes or does nails. For such a big place they don't seem to have a very complete staff. I followed Laurel to this salon from Lexington and will follow her to the ends of the earth! She knows hair. period. She really listens, makes suggestions and keeps up with all the latest trends. Her blow outs are the best I've ever had and it will last for days. She does magic with color as well. I love the keratin treatment. I recently had Ana put on my color and blow dry as Laurel was on vaca. She is also good - gives a great head massage when washing your hair! The Salon was recently updated it's got a nice unpretentious vibe. They take good care of you, water, tea, coffee. I've never had a problem getting an appointment when I needed one. They also offer organic airbrush tanning - although I haven't tried it yet. And there is free parking behind the building. So go - get beautiful and then walk a few steps to have a drink on the patio at Margaritas! read more

I made an appointment via email, which I always appreciate as so many establishments fail with technology. The day of the appointment, I got into some car trouble and Katie was very understanding and offered to reschedule with only a couple hours left before the appointment. When I got in, I was surprised with how posh the space was while still being very cozy and welcoming. Katie was very nice and attentive. She asked me in detail what I typically did with my hair, which I appreciated since it's curly and it's not very typical. I got a shampoo, cut, and blow dry. They were also having a special tanning event and ended up having one as well. Which was a nice surprise. Overall Katie was really nice and a real pleasure. I am new to the area and have been searching for a place to get regular cuts and dyes. I tried Salon Astante when I wanted a simple layered bob with some high lights. The following are reasons I will never go back: 1. My appointment started 45 mins LATE (yes, I should have left at this point) 2. It was clear that I was forgotten several times (left in different rooms while the OWNER who was supposed to be working on my hair was also playing receptionist and salesperson). I was left at the sink with my hair soaking (you know how uncomfortable those can be) for ~20 mins while she tried to sell someone shampoo. 3. The owner/my stylist did not listen to what I wanted, i.e. I asked her to please not cut my hair all one length because it is curly and I will look like a mushroom, yet she did this anyway. My hair is devoid of layers and 2 inches SHORTER than I wanted so I will have to pin it back on the sides until it is long enough to get cut again (somewhere else, of course). My bangs are crooked and much thinner than I wanted (I explicitly said I wanted very thick bangs). 4. The color of my highlights was way off, they look cheap and copper-colored 5. I was treated in a rush once my appointment finally got started 6. It was ridiculously expensive--almost $300!!!!!! I have never paid this much and I have had much much better haircuts from stylists in hick towns in California where I grew up. I will agree with Cassandra D. The prices are definitely misleading!!! STAY AWAY if you don't want your hair butchered like mine was. If you must go somewhere in Waltham, go to Salon Di Elio, he is so much better and his prices aren't ridiculous! read more

I love my hair now. I need to start this review with that. For years, I've wanted a short pixie style, but most stylists seem hesitant to do it. It's as if they don't think I really want my hair cut that short. Maybe it's a difficult cut to do? Okay. So, Katie did not originate my pixie style, but she sure made it better. So far, there are no clumps of hair sticking out, and overall, the cut looks very precise, which is what you want for a short cut. First time patrons get their cut for $50, and I used the Yelp deal that let me pay $50 and get $100 worth of service, which, even at an expensive salon is a great deal. I got a brow wax and bought a small bottle of the outrageously decadent Oribe superfine hairspray, all for under $100. Brow wax was $20. Is any brow wax worth more than fifteen dollars? Every other place I have had it done charges between 14 and 16. This is a very nice salon. It was friendly, attractive, had free parking, coffee and tea, etc. They even give newcomers a gift bag with samples (Oribe! Yeah!). But, if I return, cuts are 65 - 85 dollars. $85 for a haircut? In waltham? This was definitely the best cut, wax, and overall experience that I've had since moving to this area about 9 months ago, but is it 85 dollars better? That's twice the price of many local salons. I expect to pay more for quality service, but I'm not sure the local market warrants these prices. read more

I just had my first visit to Salon Astante--I followed my stylist, Laurel, who is AMAZING! I was lucky enough to get a recommendation for her shortly after I moved to Boston 6 years ago, and now I have moved salons to follow her twice. When she was in Lexington, I drove an hour just to get my hair cut. I have straight, fine hair, and she manages to cut it so that it looks like it has some shape and volume. She is worth every penny and I'm so glad to be a loyal client! read more

I saw the Yelp deal which made me try this place. Totally glad I did. I came to the salon for my sister's birthday and it was terrific--a wonderful afternoon with the girls! Naturally some of the ladies were running late, but Astante's staff couldn't have been more understanding. They didn't rush us and made it all work in the end. The service was top notch as well. Katie did an amazing job on my hair. She even took the time to give me a little added curl during the blow dry as I was going out with my fiancee for dinner. The nail technician was wonderful as well. I think she even stayed a little late to fit us in. And lastly, if you want some fun evening make-up complete with fake lashes I highly recommend Diane. She did an amazing job on my litter sister's make-up. My sister couldn't have been happier with her smokey eye look. It's hard for me to even write this - I'm still so upset. I went into the salon with high hopes. I wanted to cut a couple inches off of my long hair and clean it up to have a healthier looking style for the fall. After speaking with my stylist about her cutting around 3 to 4 inches off, she said she would do some long layers and angles around my face. I agreed again making myself very clear on 3 things. I needed to be able to wear a pony tail, have all of my hair behind my ears, and NO bangs. She starts cutting, and I start getting nervous...for what turned out to be good reason. When my haircut was finished I had hair that barely touched my shoulders - about 8 inches gone - She butchered the back of my head. It looks like my five year old niece took scissors to my hair. It feels so thin, there are random pieces of long hair and chunks of short pieces sticking out everywhere. It is so short that it doesn't all stay behind my ears, and a ponytail is next to impossible - pretty much the opposite of what I made clear I was looking for. I am so upset about this situation - I understand that it is only hair and it will grow up, thankfully - but this is just unacceptable. I will never go back to Salon Asante and I will tell anyone who mentions it to me (which they will-because I work veryyyyyy close by) to steer clear. The unprofessionalism, and clear lack of skill, training and talent is atrocious. Time to go find a headband to cover my hair for the next few months. Thanks Salon Asante. read more

This is my fourth and final time going to Salon Astante. The previous times were just ok. Never once did I have an awesome cut that I was thrilled with but they were ok. I had cuts that were 30, 40, 50 and finally 60. The interesting thing and the reason that I have decided to finally write this review is the last cut, just a few weeks ago. I walked in as I usually do and asked for a walk-in cut, I know that you get whomever is free and the price changes accordingly. I got the owner Katie. Great I thought, maybe this is the awesome cut Ive been looking for. Well I couldn't have been more wrong, in fact it was the worst cut I have had from this salon and in fact the worst cut that I have had in YEARS. She does not seen to have any experience cutting men's hair or at least very little. One side of my hair is very short now and the other close to two inches longer. She only partially listened to my requests and failed at 70 percent of it. This is pretty unacceptable considering its her shop and she charges $60.00 for a cut! Here I am, even a few weeks later and the cut is so bad that I have to find someone to salvage it so that it can at least grow out evenly. I see that most women have had pretty good experiences here and while I wouldn't dissuade them from going I would tell any and all men to avoid letting Katie give you a cut at all costs. read more

I had highlights done on my reddish hair there that ended up looking gray. I went back to correct it and asked for a lighter natural look. The second time I walked out with a dirty dark (almost black) hair and highlights that looked like gray again. The color did not work with my skin tone, and my long hair was very dry. The hairdresser kept telling me how it looked so good, while I stood there in shock and disbelieve that I asked for blonde and became a dirty brunette. I had to go to another salon the next day to correct it. In order to remediate this problem I had to select a more flattering dark shade and could not safely achieve the lighter shade that I wanted from the start. Overall: poor skills, miscommunication, and expensive. Sadly, I spent close to half a thousand through this nightmare. And it took me months to revive my hair. read more

Salon Astante is fabulous! I went to see Katie for a blow dry before going away for New Years Eve and is came out wonderful! The girl that washed my hair gave me an excellent head massage that was to die for and Katie really took the time to find out how I wanted it. She did this awesome curl blow dry that was fast and fabulous. It stay in during my whole trip and looked great on NYE. I also needed to get my nails done somewhere and dreaded going to the mall, so I had them done there while I waited for my appointment and it was awesome. Super clean, friendly, and lasting. I get compliments all the time about my hair. Yes, I'm lucky (thanks Mom & Dad!) but I am also at an age (60) where things can go downhill fast. Gina Skillings gets the credit for keeping my shoulder-length hair looking lustrous, healthy and natural. I see her every five weeks for a one-process color and cut and the investment is worth every penny towards looking modern and professional without spending inordinate time on my hair.
