Honestly, if I had paid more attention to the website earlier, I would've posted this after my very first visit! Paula is a true expert--she knows exactly how to work with my slightly wavy, sometimes unruly Asian hair. Her cuts are consistently an art, and so is her coloring--always natural, flattering, and beautifully done. I constantly get compliments! Not only is Paula amazing, but the entire team--Erin, Magdalena, Teresa, and Lisa (the wonderful owner of Renzo Salon)--are just as warm and welcoming. You can truly see how well they get along and support each other, which creates such a relaxed, family-like atmosphere. It honestly feels like a place where everyone knows your name--just like the classic sitcom Cheers--you're not just a client, you're part of the community. My husband is also a regular and loves his haircuts just as much. Even our college-aged kids look forward to visiting the salon when they're home for the holidays! But once I sat down and showed Maro the style I wanted, I could immediately tell she knew exactly what she was doing. She's extremely skilled, detail-oriented, and easy to talk to. It's also a family-owned business, so the whole place has a warm, welcoming vibe that you don't get everywhere. I also appreciated the complimentary hair-washing service, which made the whole experience even better. On top of the excellent haircut, the price was way better than I expected, considering I was being cut by a licensed hairdresser with over 30 years of experience. So no surprise that Michelle is an absolute sorceress of all things hair color and maintenance. Today, though, I experienced her new service for a scalp facial. Let me tell ya, this was one of the most relaxing and sensational couple of hours of my life! Plus, my scalp is feeling healthier than ever and my hair reflects the health with an extra shine and softness. So, what was so great about this scalp facial? This one starts with a nice brush of the roots, where Michelle spent lots of time really loosening things up. Then she mixed a special scalp mask that was perfect for the things I wanted to target with my scalp (like some extra moisture and removal of product buildup). That sat for a while doing it's thing and then over to the sink I went. At the sink Michelle offered me a (disposable) eye mask, which I accepted. Definitely take the eye mask!!! While I lay comfortably in the relaxing darkness, Michelle worked in additional products to my roots, each one smelling more delicious than the next, and I entered into a complete in-body sensory experience. She brought in tuning forks to use at various points explaining what they helped with: grounding, circulation, calming. I felt my body fade into a complete space of calm. Rounding out the facial was a great hair wash (who doesn't look having their hair washed?!) inclusive of a scalp massage. When I opened my eyes and took off the eye mask I felt like a new person. I was talking calmer, moving more gently, just overall operating on a different vibration. Michelle finished off the service with a blowout. My hair has never smelled so incredible!!! I typically treat myself to a spa facial for my skin ~ 4x a year. Now that I've had a scalp facial, it's going to be on a similar rotation!! One of the best services I've ever received and left me feeling like I just bought myself the absolute best self-care around. Thank you Michelle for helping me end my week and start my weekend in a calm space. *Bonus* if you're a music lover, Michelle's playlist is always fire and matches whatever mood we're playing with. Horror show times 100! I arrived at my appt 10 minutes early, and was taken 60 minutes late! Why does a customer need to ask repeatedly, "How much longer?" Why isn't customer service proactively providing an explanation? Reassurance, maybe? I suppressed my outrage, because I just wanted my hair done without attitude. When I finally got to the sink, I thought, okay, now I can relax. Well, that thought quickly evaporated. Scalding water turned freezing, back to scalding. And the stylist must have put honey in my hair because it felt like she was ripping it out with water running through it! I don't have a sensitive scalp, and an experience like this has NEVER happened to me before. I asked her 3x to be gentler, and she dismissed me while joking around with the stylist next to her. Unfortunately, the unpleasantness (and pain!) didn't end with the wash. While in the chair, I had to tell her to take the hot iron out of my hair because she left it in so long while she took a phone call, I was sure a chunk of my hair would fall out. Besides the inexcusable lateness, the plumbing situation that goes unfixed, the rough handling, and the personal calls being taken with a hot iron in the stylist's hand, the salon was freezing, the music blasting louder than a club, it was without a doubt the worst salon experience of my lifetime. This is the first negative review I've ever written, for any establishment, in any industry. I honestly walked out to my car in tears, because after a hard day at work and thinking I'd sink into a salon chair and relax for an hour, I came away feeling assaulted.

I was warmly welcomed in very clean upscale salon that does spa services also. Lots of products, make-up goodies and jewelry, but I needed to not get destructed from shopping! I saw Jamie, and told her I was going to an upscale premier this evening and how I style it al home. Hair is short, color damage, dry I told her. She recommended certain shampoo and style products and I felt comfortable. She said she's been a stylist for I think close to 9 years now, but I knew I was in good hands from the start. I confessed to her that I used Aqua Net for hairspray and she introduced me to a new product. No pressure to buy, but next time I come back I will get some. She says she does balyage lightning ( which is hard to get in Boston)... I will definitely come back. Wash/dry was 36.00. If I got flat iron( in which I didn't need due to her good blow out) it would have been 20.00 extra for my short hair so passed. You'll be pleased with this place, I promise!
