Finally, a hair cut that works for me. So happy to have found Salon 55. I love the small bright space and immediately felt right at home. 5 stars from me !! read more

So glad to find this salon! Love my new cut! I felt right at home walking into this bright sunny space with great vibes!

Expensive and no charm. My hair stylist did not try to engage me in conversation. She seemed bored and wondered why anyone would want to move here. Also did not do a good job on the cut. A blow dry styling was not included. I had to go home and cut at my hair so it was even. The cost of this was $80. read more

Great prices and perfect for number redoing my roots/getting a trim and/or wash and blow dry. It is a very convenient location, the people are very nice and I have not found a better deal. read more

10 stars! I went here years ago, and got detoured to several different places that did not please me the way that this place does. The prices are in line with competitors. Excellent service products, style, above all the caring staff! Thank you JON I love it ! (not spilling any secrets) read more

I was in Boston for a few days and really needed a haircut. I was able to make an appointment with Zelia on short notice. She took her time shaping my hair and giving me a good cut. The salon is very cute. I like the vibe. read more

I may have written a review recently and this is an old picture so I will write another one. I just had may hair done by Camilla; color cut and blow dry and I feel blessed and guided that I found her. My previous hairdresser kind of disappeared and I didn't have someone good for a long time. Camilla is amazing and what a love as a person. I found her through my fabulous manicurist and waxer who moved there last year. Her name is Michelle and she is equally good and such a love. I have been seeing her for at least a decade consistently and if I go to someone else from time to time I always return to them. John the owner has been in NC for 21 years and I have interacted with him joyfully since I started. my private practice. You feel like you're part of a warm family every time I go in there. IF you need a good salon don't hesitate to come here. read more

I've been going to this salon for over a decade now. I love my haircuts every time and I've recently started getting manicures here, too.

Lovely staff and great service. My hair looked gorgeous, with a cut, color and blow out.

I called on a whim on a Saturday for a cut and color as a first time client. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. The salon feels like a community with owner John at the helm. We clicked right away and my hair was transformed! read more

If I could give zero stars here I would. I brought in a picture of how I wanted my hair cut. I very specifically told the stylist I did not want my hair cut too short in the back, and told him how in my last hair cut it had been cut to a length of about a quarter inch, which I absolutely hated and did not want. He cut my hair in the back to a length of a quarter inch, and cut it in front in a manner nothing like the picture I showed him. How can somebody do exactly what you asked them not to do? My hair looks absolutely horrible and will take months to grow out. read more

John gave me the worst hair cut. Total lack of attention to what he was doing and what I asked of him.

Got my hair color and cut done here by Angelo, who was so sweet. He even ran out to put quarters in my meter when I had reached the max time on the app. Nice vibe, cool people working there. Angelo did an amazing job with both cut and color. It's the most stylish cut I've had in a while and the color was the closest to my natural, exactly what I asked for, that any colorist has achieved. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair. Definitely going back here and highly recommend! read more

Getting better & better with owner John doing my hair. Am new to the hood so at first I showed a pic to John, leaving a few decisions up to him. Well this last time he said, Want something a tad easier to maintain? I went for it and WOW. John gave me more fullness with layering, broke up my high forehead without buster brown bangs, allowed my earrings to show and gave me a more youthful style. Yes! Easier to maintain. Glad I trusted him. Strict Covid 19 protocols observed. Great place to go. read more

I went to this salon and was turned away. I called head to let them know that I have different hair (dreads in the back unlocked bangs, color my hair purple myself) I was looking to have my roots bleached and my bangs trimmed, nothing done to my dreads. I was told to come on in. I do realize that I 'look different' from the rest of the clientele that was in the salon. Once I arrived I met with my stylist and explained what I said on the phone. She touched my dreads as if they were foreign objects. I explained that she didn't need to touch my dreads, that I was just looking to have my natural hair roots bleached and my bangs trimmed. She proceeded to say that she didn't have 'strong enough bleach' to bleach my roots (I have brown hair that I have had bleached for years). I explained this to her, she promptly left the salon floor and took (possibly) the manager with her. When they came out the apron that had been on me was removed and I was NOT ONLY ESCORTED OUT BUT WALKED TO THE CORNER!!! If you are at all alternative looking do not go to this salon! read more

Not only one of the best haircut& style I've ever had, but also one of the best experiences! Jon and the team of professional hairdressers kept me amused and made me feel right at home even though it was my 1st visit to Salon55. Will definitely go there again. Highly recommended! read more

I visited Salon 55 for the first time today. The shop was quite busy. I am a new transplant here from Arizona and was lucky to have an appointment with Irena to cut and style my hair. She listened carefully to what I wanted done and expected. I got a perfect haircut. I also had her blow dry and style my hair. I was glad I did. So many stylists turn their chair away from the mirror. She had me watching her directly in the mirror. This is how we learn how to fix it. Thank you, Irena. I will most definitely return! read more

I have done hair cut twice here. great service and john is really good at what he does. 90 USD for woman's hair cut with some necessary treatment like a bit hair dye or styling or something that he thinks looks nice for you. excellent taste. read more

John, the owner, has been doing my hair since I was 12. When I've strayed, I've paid! I saw him today for my first salon haircut since COVID, and it was legitimately therapeutic. My hair looks great and it's always such a nice experience. John is an absolute sweetheart. He reminded me today that he's celebrating 20 years for Salon 55 this year. Twenty years of beautiful hair for happy Newtonians (and beyond). read more

The best, most accommodating, cleanest salon ever. John, the owner and my stylist is great at everything- highlights, keratin and cut. He is a blow drying miracle worker. The very best!!! read more

Got a haircut with John back in September and i still get compliments to this day. Can't wait to go back!

I am going to break the code of never telling people when you find an amazing hair dresser. John is just that. During the CoVid lock down, everyday I was amazed how good my hair continued to look. I even received the compliments while wearing a mask! John is just so good and the location is clean and everyone at the shop is so friendly. read more

Best salon around! Classy and the owner is the man! Jon does amazing work and has such a great personality! A must go.

Irena is quiet, talented, and the go to girl for both color and cut. She has skilled hands and a great eye for natural color and highlights if you're feeling indulgent. She's been at the Salon for as long as I can remember, and I've watched her transition ugly duckings in to great haired swans, (including me)....at least until I have to wash my hair again by myself. read more

Small salon with a hilarious hair dresser-- Jon Tolson. Go to get beautified and entertained. The salon also has a talented eyebrow waxer. Very natural brow shaping which I didn't find to be painful in the least. read more

Love John! He's the best! My entire family goes to him and he gives amazing haircuts, blow outs, and can straighten hair like no other! He will make you laugh and tell you the hottest places to eat, the best makeup artists and much more! He knows all the hottest trends in hair. 10 stars! read more

I've been coming here for years for cut and color. John T is fantastic and such a sweetie. The place always has an up vibe and is very warm and welcoming. John listens to you and works with you to make you happy with the result. He's funny and one of a kind. read more

I wish this thing had 10 Starz, Been going there for years, Geno give the absolute best color and cuts. I moved to LA and have never been able to find a hair stylist as GREAT as he is.. I still go to him whenever I am back in Boston.. read more

My mom and I have come here for years and between the two of us have never gotten a bad haircut from Gino. Gino is a treasure. He has an attentive and caring attitude and priceless stories. While he can flawlessly duplicate any style, his not so secret specialty is vintage Hollywood. Today, I gave him a gif of Marilyn Monroe as a guide for what I was looking for, I wasn't even sure he saw it, but a glance later he had perfectly re-created it. I could not be happier. A few years ago he did the sweetest pin-curls for a prom. Anyway all the pin-up and vintage revival fans need to hop on the green line for some great stories and a legit 'do. read more

Jon is amazing. I've been going to him for years - I've strayed, but always end up coming back. Also, he's great with curly hair. It's a small and very friendly salon, with a lot of very loyal clients. Highly recommend! read more

I wouldnt go anywhere other than John, owner and Mr. Personality. He does my color and cut but he's def not limited to middle-aged women trying to look great. He also cuts my two college and post-college sons. Elaine is the best manicurist ever. Need restaurant recommendation, realtor, vacation ideas? All bonuses while you get preened. read more

Love love Mary Giorgi here, at this wonderful, friendly salon. No one better for cut, color and laughs. She keeps limited hours, though, so book now!! For the record, I have very thick, wavy hair. Takes a lot of talent to get this mop in order. read more

I have been coming here for decades. Irena is the best at color, cut and suggestions and she is the nicest lady imaginable. Vicki washes my hair and wow can she wash hair. John T. does my keratin treatments a few times a year but is always the best presence in the salon. Elaine does nails (not toes) and waxes (above the waist) and is the best I have ever seen at both. Kudos to a job well done. read more

This is a great salon with a great vibe. Veronica cuts my hair and it always grows out even better than the original cut, which is what I look for. read more

I just saw John for the first time last week. He is known for his talent with blondes/light brunettes and definitely deserves all five stars. He was upbeat, engaged, and honest regarding my thoughts on my hair color and his opinions as to what could be done. What a transformation! I had 100% confidence in him the entire time. Unusual for someone who is as picky as I am. I am definitely sticking with him! read more

I wouldn't go anywhere else! John is amazing with cut and color. His personality and energy make the salon fabulous and fun! Definitely a terrific find in Newton. read more

How could you not love this place?? Unlike other salons, Salon 55 is friendly, down to earth and makes you feel like a valued customer. Everyone knows your name. All they need is to add a Martini Bar and you would have the perfect mix. Jon is the owner and goes out of his way to make you comfortable. Gino is fabulous, a stylist who actually listens to you and takes a genuine interest in what you want and what he thinks you should do. He and Jon make such an entertaining team they could charge admission. Highly recommend. read more

Small and cozy salon with very reasonable prices, which is very unusual for Newton Center. But the main jewel of the place is Irena! She is doing my hair for many years now, and every time i am getting a compliment from strangers: on a street, in a store, in a restaurant...She is the BEST! read more
