Expensive and no charm. My hair stylist did not try to engage me in conversation. She seemed bored and wondered why anyone would want to move here. Also did not do a good job on the cut. A blow dry styling was not included. I had to go home and cut at my hair so it was even. The cost of this was $80. read more

I may have written a review recently and this is an old picture so I will write another one. I just had may hair done by Camilla; color cut and blow dry and I feel blessed and guided that I found her. My previous hairdresser kind of disappeared and I didn't have someone good for a long time. Camilla is amazing and what a love as a person. I found her through my fabulous manicurist and waxer who moved there last year. Her name is Michelle and she is equally good and such a love. I have been seeing her for at least a decade consistently and if I go to someone else from time to time I always return to them. John the owner has been in NC for 21 years and I have interacted with him joyfully since I started. my private practice. You feel like you're part of a warm family every time I go in there. If I could give zero stars here I would. I brought in a picture of how I wanted my hair cut. I very specifically told the stylist I did not want my hair cut too short in the back, and told him how in my last hair cut it had been cut to a length of about a quarter inch, which I absolutely hated and did not want. He cut my hair in the back to a length of a quarter inch, and cut it in front in a manner nothing like the picture I showed him. How can somebody do exactly what you asked them not to do? My hair looks absolutely horrible and will take months to grow out. read more

Got my hair color and cut done here by Angelo, who was so sweet. He even ran out to put quarters in my meter when I had reached the max time on the app. Nice vibe, cool people working there. Angelo did an amazing job with both cut and color. It's the most stylish cut I've had in a while and the color was the closest to my natural, exactly what I asked for, that any colorist has achieved. I went to this salon and was turned away. I called head to let them know that I have different hair (dreads in the back unlocked bangs, color my hair purple myself) I was looking to have my roots bleached and my bangs trimmed, nothing done to my dreads. I was told to come on in. I do realize that I 'look different' from the rest of the clientele that was in the salon. Once I arrived I met with my stylist and explained what I said on the phone. She touched my dreads as if they were foreign objects. I explained that she didn't need to touch my dreads, that I was just looking to have my natural hair roots bleached and my bangs trimmed. She proceeded to say that she didn't have 'strong enough bleach' to bleach my roots (I have brown hair that I have had bleached for years). I explained this to her, she promptly left the salon floor and took (possibly) the manager with her. When they came out the apron that had been on me was removed and I was NOT ONLY ESCORTED OUT BUT WALKED TO THE CORNER!!! If you are at all alternative looking do not go to this salon! read more

Getting better & better with owner John doing my hair. Am new to the hood so at first I showed a pic to John, leaving a few decisions up to him. Well this last time he said, Want something a tad easier to maintain? I went for it and WOW. John gave me more fullness with layering, broke up my high forehead without buster brown bangs, allowed my earrings to show and gave me a more youthful style. Yes! Easier to maintain. I visited Salon 55 for the first time today. The shop was quite busy. I am a new transplant here from Arizona and was lucky to have an appointment with Irena to cut and style my hair. She listened carefully to what I wanted done and expected. I got a perfect haircut. I also had her blow dry and style my hair. I was glad I did. So many stylists turn their chair away from the mirror. She had me watching her directly in the mirror. This is how we learn how to fix it. Thank you, Irena. I will most definitely return! read more

My mom and I have come here for years and between the two of us have never gotten a bad haircut from Gino. Gino is a treasure. He has an attentive and caring attitude and priceless stories. While he can flawlessly duplicate any style, his not so secret specialty is vintage Hollywood. Today, I gave him a gif of Marilyn Monroe as a guide for what I was looking for, I wasn't even sure he saw it, but a glance later he had perfectly re-created it. I could not be happier. A few years ago he did the sweetest pin-curls for a prom. Anyway all the pin-up and vintage revival fans need to hop on the green line for some great stories and a legit 'do. read more

I have been coming here for decades. Irena is the best at color,cut and suggestions and she is the nicest lady imaginable. Vicki washes my hair and wow can she wash hair. How could you not love this place?? Unlike other salons, Salon 55 is friendly, down to earth and makes you feel like a valued customer. Everyone knows your name. All they need is to add a Martini Bar and you would have the perfect mix. Jon is the owner and goes out of his way to make you comfortable. Gino is fabulous, a stylist who actually listens to you and takes a genuine interest in what you want and what he thinks you should do.
