He paused and asked multiple times during the session for suggestions and to make sure he is doing it perfectly to my liking. There's a reason this salon gets such phenomenal reviews. I just got one of the best haircuts I've ever had in my life. I have short, fine hair, and doing a precision cut takes skill. Bill is an absolute artisan. He is meticulous and really enjoys what he does. Although I gave him carte blanche, he was careful to ascertain my preferences before and during the cut. He gave me a beautiful, feminine pixie that I absolutely adore! I am so excited to find such a high caliber stylist right here in my own backyard. I usually go to a salon on Newbury St but am no longer working in town, thanks to Covid. I found Hairflo last night after lots of research online, lucked out on a next day appointment, and this was my first time here. I've been to Hairflo a few times, and seen several different stylists. Monica always does a great job with natural looking blended highlights. Recently, I saw a new stylist, Claudia, since Monica was out sick that day. Claudia took the time to talk through different colors and ideas with me. She did a really nice job with my blowout. After the appointment, Janet reached out to make sure I was satisfied with the new color. I ended up going back and having Regina enhance the glaze on my hair and add a few extra highlights. Diane also helped with the discussion to get the glaze color just right. I love how the staff works together to make sure everything is perfect! read more

Regina the owner is the best blow dryer, especially for fine hair and frizzy hair like I have. I have been going to her for many, many years (at previous location) and love her new place. It's bright and clean and all the staff are experienced and really nice. Bill is amazing with kids and for men's haircuts. Janet is wonderful too. They carry organic color which is the healthiest choice and is better for your hair, and comes out gorgeous. The previous salon did not acknowledge where she went..I don't have much hair but Diane always makes things look better then they are.. My wife also goes to Diane as well. Come to find out KE salon sued Diane for leaving that salon.. ultimately losing in a court of law. read more

Look no further , Bill will satisfy you. I'm not one who usually gives reviews for salons as a guy but Bill Is really impressive. I have thick Asian hair and I really appreciate when a hairstylist understands how to cut ethnic hair. He blended the back of my hair like a pro and evened out my hair from a previous cut that had chopped too much of my hair off. They also use organic natural products if you have a preference and the space is nice and clean. It has a modern feel yet not super bougie so that you don't feel uncomfortable. Bill is also just a cool down to earth guy. Definitely a great place for a men's cut. read more

I really wanted to like this place because it is near my house and cute so I gave it two tries with two different stylists. Both times I wanted highlights and came prepared with photos and neither of them could get it right. They both made me feel like I was unrealistic but a stylist at a different salon got my highlights just right on the first try so I know what I want was possible, just not there. read more

I tried entering from the front door, which apparently they don't do. Locked, figured it was bc of covid. Multiple employees saw me try to enter and then wait, however, and didn't do a thing. Eventually Bill sort of gestured down the st and I assumed it meant to go to the back door. It was totally unmarked. Their waiting area is not Covid friendly. Diane asked me if I washed my hands after I came out of the bathroom (really?). I was given a less than one minute consult. She glanced at the pics I sent and said "layers, ok" (not exactly what I wanted). She barely spoke to me but spoke to everyone else, even when I tried talking. I told her I wanted to keep my length but she could take off whatever needed to happen bc of dead ends. She said my ends were super healthy and didn't need drastic length removal. She then proceeded to cut like four inches off. My part was crooked ... Other salons have spent several minutes checking to make sure it's straight. She didn't. When I say crooked, I mean wrong angle and also broken off in the middle, if that makes sense. I asked for a lot of volume, angles, layers. She cut one set of long layers. She styled it without any heat protection and just kind of curled the ends (further proving she didn't pay attention to what I had asked for). She showed me the layers and said she only did one bc I didn't have much to begin with; I had been growing my hair out. I haven't gotten my hair cut in like two years and wanted some oomph, which I told her at the beginning. I had to ask her to angle the front (again, it was in the ref photo and I said so from the start). If not for that she wouldn't have done any dry cutting at all, which is extremely surprising to me. In the end, the cut took like fifteen minutes and she spent the remaining 45 just blow drying my hair. There was plenty more to be done, in my opinion. They sort of rudely talked about another client after she left (woman had been saying incorrect medical advice about covid); I agree with their opinions but it was still very unprofessional. I very much felt like she was trying to push me in and out. I was a new client and am looking for a new stylist and there was no effort made to make me want to come back. I've gotten many hair cuts in the area (and many below this price pt) and this was by far the worst. For $75 plus tip I don't look bad but I don't look like how I want, and the experience was so disappointing I don't want to go back for any sort of repair. It was uncomfortable, crowded, and I felt like I walked into some club I wasn't a member of. If it weren't for covid I definitely would have rethought my tip. read more

Extremely poor experience. Not only do they not specify on the website the cost, I did not get a blow dry and they charged me $70 for a simple haircut. The hair dresser refused to cut my hair the length I wanted, I even had her correct it and she still wouldn't cut it to the length I wanted telling me it would look bad if I cut it that short. Completely uneven cut too, I'm not sure if I can post a picture but I took a pic of it. So disappointing, plus an undeserved tip. read more

I just had my hair colored, cut and blown dry by Master Stylist Regina. This was my first time coming to Hairflo, which is a lovely little salon on Walnut Street in Newton. Regina designed a custom color that blended beautifully with my skin tone then proceeded to meticulously cut my hair. Her expert blow dry gave my hair volume and shine without the necessity of any additional products. I am thrilled with my new looked and have already booked my next appointment with Regina. I've been seeing Nina for 8+ years (for cut and color) and follow her where ever she goes, but Haiflo is the best yet! The entire team - from when you walk in to when you leave - is friendly, knowledgeable and makes you feel right at home. Nina is a fabulous colorist (and stylist!) - she always takes the time to understand what you like/what you don't like, what color/treatment will look best with your skin tone and complexion, etc. When I went to Nina most recently, my hair was looking dull and I wanted it to be a bit brighter. With all of that in mind, she recommended a balayage treatment. I'm dirty blonde but this treatment makes my hair lighter in a warm, natural way - and Nina picked the best colors to do so. If you didn't know me, you'd have no idea I lightened my hair - it looks that natural (just sun-kissed)! I would highly recommend Nina and Hairflo - great location, atmosphere and people. read more

The salon itself has a bright and welcoming feel to it and everyone who works there is super friendly. Felicia did an awesome job with my very thick and curly hair and cut off just the right amount.
