After years of getting my hair done by Meghan, I was intrigued when she started offering healing services. Suffering from chronic neck and back pain, I was hopefully that Reiki could offer some relief. I gave it a try a few months ago and have loved it ever since. I've come to understand that everyone experiences Reiki differently. For me, even every session has been unique, but what I've consistently felt is a sense of lightness - physically, mentally and/or emotionally. It was my first visit to Álainn today for a dramatic cut and vivid color and I couldn't be more delighted with every aspect of my experience. So any person probably can relate who has curly hair. But it is kind of difficult to find a good stylist who knows how to work with curly hair. As for mine, its extremely thick, filled with curls, so I usually need to find someone who knows curly hair. I found this salon driving on my way home. I had really long, brown hair and wanted something different...she took one look at me, listened to what I wanted and literally transformed my hair by giving it an awesome cut and color, complete with a before and after picture! I cannot begin to explain how wonderful Meghan is as a person and a stylist!!! As you can see from her reviews, she certainly knows what she's doing. Often it is hard to trust a stylist, but after getting her name and number from a friend, I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did! Meghan cut at least 3 inches off my hair and gave me a completely new do and I love it. She is very personable, listens to what you want, and gives suggestions on what she thinks works with your hair and face. I wish I had gone to her from the start! I have been faithfully going to Meghan Moran for my hair since I moved to Watertown over 3 years ago. I found her and her salon by doing online research for people who know how to best cut curly hair. I had had some AWFUL experiences in the past (think TEARS) and was ready to find my new home - and I sure have, with Meghan and her staff at Alainn! She is quick to come up with ideas and suggestions, when I am receptive to something new, as well as work with an idea that I come in with. We've experimented with ombre purple (which was Ah-mazing and I loved it, when I had it and kept it up for about a year or so) as well as recently getting me back to my roots, when I was ready for that. She really can do absolutely anything with cut and color and I love how she is always heading off to a hair conference and learning more about the hair industry, continuing to learn from her mentors. She takes exceptional care of me while I am at her salon, down to a relaxing shoulder and hand massage, bringing me endless cups of water or tea and genuinely caring about me as a person. I "made the switch" to Meghan from my previous hairdresser about 18 months ago after a friend of mine had gone to her and got a fantastic cut and color. I was looking to make a change with my hair -- specifically, growing out a very short, layered cut that I had for a number of years. Meghan was the perfect person to make this happen. She is enthusiastic, attentive, and has great advice about what works. When I am in the salon waiting for my color to process (while relaxing with a lovely cup of tea that she serves me, and reading from her collection of CURRENT magazines -- and listening to the great music that she always plays!), she often works on another client during this time. I see that these clients get the same personal and professional treatment that I get -- and they all get great cuts/styles that they all seem very pleased with. I was looking for a new hair stylist a few years ago and searched on yelp and found Meghan @ Alainn. Changing hair stylists and going to a new salon can be scary but I know I was at the right place when I met Meghan. The salon is cute and inviting and a wonderful place to relax and get your hair done. My hair is rather long and at times I do not really know what I need done. Meghan is just so creative and passionate and always knows what my hair needs and I always have been extremely happy with the outcome. I also like the personal touches in her salon.. quiet music, tea... scalp massages etc just what I need after a long day at work. Sometimes while my hair color is processing Meghan also sees other clients and it is amazing to watch the work she does. She is just so personal with her clients, listens to their hair concerns and she is just so creative with any type of hair and her clients are always happy with the outcome. I also love Meghans booking system. She books my appointments in advance which I love. I do not have to call.. email or text. Its already booked and it gives me a peace of mind. So I read a recent post about Meghan that caught me so off guard and was so completely untrue I just had to counter it. I used to work with Meghan as an esthetician and while I can't speak to the specifics of her profession I can speak to the work she has done on me and on the hundreds of beyond happy clients. Meghan has been nothing but professional, compassionate, a great listener, kind and extremely talented in my experiences with her and I worked beside her for 3.5 years. I would gladly work with her and for her again. Meghan, beyond being an amazing stylist, is an even better human being. She is so sweet and accommodating and just simply a good person. In my opinion, as I got to the end of Marie's untrue and completely misguided review, it seemed to me that the real problem was that Meghan requires a face mask for services to be performed. This is a state requirement and Meghan could be fined or shut down if she does not comply and take seriously the covid protocols. While I know Meghan well I also know her heart and I'm sure it was hard for her to require the mask of her client if it was a hardship for them but none the less her professionalism and high quality service and the law required her to uphold the mask mandate. Meghan was doing what was required by her by law but also as a precaution to keep all her clients safe and healthy. Meghan I applaud you for your commitment to sanitation, high quality services and for just being you!!! Don't stop being exactly who you are and remember to not take in the untrue negative comments being slung your way. This is not how the whole of your clients and friends and fellow coworkers feel - we think you are amazing. read more

I was so sad to hear someone wrote such a harsh, personally mean post about Meghan and her service at her salon, Alainn. Meghan has the most integrity of any small business owner I have ever dealt with. She did a wonderful job cutting and coloring my hair. She even kept an eye out for me when I would walk by her salon after work and adjust my cut according to how I wore it in my real life. She also held me up in my pesonal life when my husband died. Yep, she's expensive and she deserves every penny she charges because she is that good. She values continuing her education and never becoming stale. I miss Chris, too. So, after years of being a faithful Yelp user, I've finally decided to do my part and write a review or seventeen... Now, I've heard it said that it's only the five star or the one star experiences that move Yelpers to become reviewers - and this being my first review, well, I hate to disappoint you, but this is no exception. Let me start by saying that before Meghan, I LOVED my hairstylist. We are longtime friends, and he is an amazing colorist and stylist; because we're friends first, he did my hair at a deep discount off his usual rates. We're still great friends and he is still exceptional at what he does. And then there's Meghan. You see, after moving to the Watertown area, I decided I'd make an appointment at the highest rated Yelp salon in the area to see if it actually lived up to the hype and decide whether it would be worth the additional cost in order to save me the travel time it would now take for me to get my hair cut and colored. When I met Meghan that first appointment, I liked her immediately and at the very least, I knew I wouldn't regret having tried her salon once. I didn't. And I still don't, so much so that I haven't been back to my talented friend since going to Alainn. Meghan. Is. Just. That. Good. And he got over it eventually :/ ... You see, some things are worth waiting for, some things are worth paying for, and some things are worth waiting for AND paying for. Meghan has a packed schedule - I book weeks or months out so I don't miss out - and she is definitely not the cheapest show in town. But she's more than worth it on both counts. If my opinion isn't enough, consider this: my fiancée has long thick hair and was always cheap cheap cheap when it came to her haircuts, because her hair is beautiful enough to hide everything. I convinced her to give Meghan a try, and she balked at the cost. Then she gave in. And now, she'll go nowhere else. Follow suit, and neither will you want to go anywhere else. read more

I've been to Álainn twice now to get my haircut, and I won't be going anywhere else. The salon itself is small with a really unique and classy interior, and staffed by caring, talented, knowledgeable professionals who use the best products in the industry. Meghan is one of the rare professional hair stylists out there who actually listens to what you want. She works carefully, making sure that you're happy with the outcome. And not only does she listen, but she does fantastic work - I trust in her judgement and talent to make my hair look good, and it always does. And on top of THAT, if you have questions about haircare or style, she's more than happy to answer, and even teach a little bit! I've never felt more comfortable in a salon chair before, knowing that Meghan is going to take good care of me. Her colleague, Chris, is also fantastic. They're both kind and so easy to talk to! They make you feel right at home. An appointment starts with you getting offered a refreshment, and then being treated to some relaxation - aka some amazing, calming aromas from oils, which you are able to blissfully smell as you are given a head and shoulder massage. I couldn't believe it the first time I went to Álainn, and although it's definitely a bonus, it's not the reason I'll keep going back. The quality of hair care I get, tended to by friendly professionals who know what they are doing, is what keeps me going back. I have the best hair style of my life thanks to Meghan and Chris. 10/10 recommend **But beware! They only accept cash or check as a tip. I didn't know this, and was broken-hearted at the end of my appointment when Chris told me I wouldn't be able to tip (I guess there's a first time for everything - I never thought I'd actually be disappointed about NOT being able to tip). But of course they're such fantastic people they assured me it wasn't a problem, but I'll be going back tomorrow to give them a tip! read more

I turned to Yelp to find a good place to get my hair cut and colored and this is how I discovered Alainn since it had such amazing reviews. I called and made an appointment and now I don't think I will ever want any other stylist to touch my hair. Meghan is amazing, not just in her craft, but she provides such an excellent customer experience. Her salon is new and comfortable and she began with a short but wonderful neck and shoulder massage. She is very personable and is an artist with hair. I had a wonderful time at her salon. It was very relaxing and pampering and I left with the best cut and color I have had in my memory. Meghan can't put gratuities on credit cards so the one thing I would suggest is knowing this in advance because I felt terrible when I couldn't tip her while I was there. This review is long overdue!!! I first met Meghan in 2009 when I had a coupon for a salon on Newbury Street. I had never been to the salon and fate would have it that Meghan would be my stylist. From day one she makes you feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful. She treats you like family, which is really refreshing for Newbury street. My first cut was great! My hair felt healthy and she did exactly what I had asked for. Feeling a little adventurous for my second cut, I decided to go for an asymmetrical red bob!!! That may not seem too drastic, but when you have long brown hair, it's quite a big step! Meghan worked with me to discuss shades and what would look good with my skin tone. I absolutely loved it! A few months later when it had started to grow it out, I wanted to get it shaped up. I called the Newbury salon to schedule an appt. with Meghan. To my disappointment, I was informed that Meghan no longer worked at that salon. Luckily I had saved her card from 6 months prior so I looked her up on FB (the wonders of social media!). To make a long story short, I waited for her to open Alainn and have been going religiously ever since! One thing that amazes me about Meghan is that she is so attentive and has an AMAZING memory! She always asks me about things that we had talked about 6 months prior, which shows that she's genuinely compassionate and cares about her clients! I can't wait for my next appointment! P.S.
