I was a Daryl Christopher client years ago when I followed my hair stylist there. When she left, I never bothered to go back (admittedly reluctant to spend the money on someone not known to me). With the recent buywithme offer, I decided to give it a try...I had lost touch with my former stylist and while I finally found another good cut, it was in Boston and harder for me to schedule/get to. Well, this was one of the best impulse decisions I've made in awhile. While the salon isn't in location that has a lot of retail traffic and may be hard to find for those not familiar with the area (from Winter St. follow the signs for HealthPoint)..it is easy to get to from 128 and there is tons of parking (something you won't find in Boston). My first concern was that going in on a 2-1 coupon would mean I would get the least experienced person. WRONG. To my amazement, they scheduled me with Angela, the owner. On the site, her services were much higher the coupon stated retail value. So I called back and said "I realized you booked me with Angela...you did hear that I am using a coupon?" The receptionist assured me that I told her that when booking. Figuring that it was still too good to be true, I was worried that I would end up with a snooty person who would think they were above servicing a coupon customer. WRONG AGAIN. Angela completely took her time (even when one of my comments was that I needed something easy that could grow out because I wasn't the type to get my hair cut frequently). The service I got at Daryl Christopher rivaled the attention I got from a top Boston salon paying full price. Most importantly, I got the PERFECT CUT...one of the best I can recall in a long time. It not only looks great but fits my lifestyle (discussed in the consultation). Maybe I hit the jackpot in having Angela assigned to me (coupon customers are assigned stylists on rotation) but based on what I saw going on around me, I think any one of the stylists would've given me a great cut. Everyone I dealt with was great. My point is that if you are afraid of being treated differently based on how you pay or if you aren't a regular, don't be. They don't make much off the promotion (most of it goes to the site)...their goal is to expand their long term customer base not create one-visit volume. And it worked for me..I will be returning as a full-paying customer (and so yes, this is recommendation for those who didn't get in on the promotion). There was no pressure for added services (which is unusual). No pressure to book another appointment. No pressure to buy stuff (I did but it was because I asked). All in all...smart business. I bought a buywithme coupon. I went and had the massage and that was good, it totally relaxed me. I would not go back due to the price if I had to pay full price. I had the facial and that was good too. Again, the price was steep. The manicure pedicure were not that great. She left very sharp edges on my toe nails and a ton of color on my skin. She did not cut down my longer fingernails to even them out. I thought that the mani/pedi was way overpriced. I would not go back again due to the price and the quality of services received. I can get a much better mani/pedi for $35 at some random nail shop. Don't bother, even when they offer a buywithme coupon. Even though I paid an average of $33 per service, it left me feeling regretful that I bought the coupon. Added 1 week later: the manicure didn't even last a week, it started chipping after a couple of days. read more

I just got a great facial from Zoya. It was very relaxing with a hand and neck massage also. My skin looks great as a result. She gave me good advice on skin care, and has helped me with makeup so that I can have a routine that is easy and not too heavy but still looks good. The only down-side of this spa, as other reviewers have said, is that it is attached to a busy hair salon and the noise can bleed over into the spa rooms. They could definitely use some sound proofing. But as far as the treatment I received, and the products they use I had an excellent experience and will go back again. I was so happy that DC had relocated to a more accessible area. I went in for a cut and styling for a wedding. They took so long with the cut and the stylist didn't seem to realize that I needed the styling (a topknot). When I reminded her of this, she seemed very frazzled, and started doing my hair very quickly. Instead of a topknot (on top of your head), she did a big bun with a donut at the back of my head which was a very mature style and not at all what I was looking for. I had to leave immediately for another salon to fix my hair at my own cost. I've loved Ardan Salons in other cities so I'm v surprised by this. read more

This is a long overdue review. Donna Paradise is a master colorist and master stylist at the salon. She has done my cut and color off and on since 1998. Parking is a breeze and free, and it's just of Rt. 95. Donna is always prompt and attentive and adorable and fun, but the reality is SHE IS THE BEST! I have tried to save money and/or find someone closer, but my hair NEVER looks as good as when she does it. She keeps up with current hair styles and trends, and no one does a better blow out. It isn't cheap but not significantly more than the other salons I have tried when all is said and done. I've decided I would rather save on other services and splurge on my hair because it's worth it and I'm worth it! :-) read more

To sum up: -good luck finding this place -steer clear of older brunette at front desk -staff could communicate better -sanitary, but could use more frequent tidying -treatments not worth full price or the drive First, THIS PLACE IS NOT EASY TO FIND. I am not at all surprised to see that MANY other reviews (even positive ones) say this. You might think the salon would A. update the website directions to say something a little more clear than "turn on the 3rd street," or B. ADMIT they are hard to find! When I casually mentioned to staff that they were kind of hard to find, no one acknowledged it. Secondly, just know that my party was LATE. I completely admit it. We noticed we were getting lost, so we called the salon to say we would be 15 min late (arriving right at 10am). They'd asked us to arrive at 9:45am, 15 min early for our appointment--understandable. Whoever answered the phone didn't know how to look up appointments and was very confused by us calling. When we finally arrived at 10:20 (I admit, much later than we predicted due to the difficult location of the salon and a whack GPS) they were unhappy with us, even though my friends and I walked in very apologetic. The blonde at the front desk was polite, but it was clear that she was the one who had answered the phone because she also didn't know what to do when we walked in. After we apologized for being late and gave her our names, she called over an older brunette woman with glasses, who was positively nasty to us. The brunette was completely unwelcoming, scolded us for being late, and was unclear about what we were supposed to do next. She hinted that our massages would be cut short, but still no clear options or directions. I asked her to clarify our options: I mean what else might we do but take a shorter massage, I said I didn't really want to reschedule because I wasn't going to drive out there again. This pissed her off even more. The brunette said we could get a 30 min massage rather than 50 min. We were totally okay with this, as we WERE late, but a little ruffled by her demeanor and tone with us. Finally, in the waiting area, the manager approached us. This woman was very nice and had a much better response to our profuse apologies for being late. The manager said that we had some "new client" paperwork to fill out, and by the time we were done with that and got changed for the massage table, it would hardly be worth it. She persuaded us to skip the massage for the day. I asked her if we'd lose the service, or if we might be able to reschedule. She said it was not their policy to reschedule late clients who paid with buywithme coupons, but she'd see what she could do. Her tone definitely made us feel more okay with giving up the massage. I said we completely understood, because we were late, so that was that. But she never got back to us about "seeing what she could do" even though were were there for another 3 hours. Without the massage, we had time to kill before our facials, so we sat in the waiting area for 25 minutes. It was nice that they had snacks and refreshments, but there were dirty glasses and trash on the tables. No visible trashcan, so I assumed staff were supposed to clean it up but no one did. While we were waiting, the massage therapists showed up looking for us. This was awkward, because we had to apologize for being late and explain that the manager had suggested we wouldn't have enough time, so we had decided to skip massages. The staff could have communicated much better so we'd avoid that conversation. Also, this could be personal preference, but I might have been uncomfortable with a male massage therapist, especially on the older side (2/3 were male, one older). I was a bit relieved to miss it. Then we went in for our facials, which were just okay. I had Robin, who was very nice and polite and did a nice neck/shoulder and arm massage. As expected, she lectured me about my skin and tried to sell me products "that would really help" but she didn't push too hard. I've had enough facials to know that salon products are usually a rip-off and there are cheaper treatments out there that are more relaxing. But maybe I was just extra stressed about being late and getting lost. The best of our treatments were the mani/pedis. Both were up to par for anything you might get in Boston for the same price. The manicurists were very sweet and good at small talk, but not annoyingly. However, I wouldn't trek out there just for the mani/pedi. We happened to be there on a day when they have a complimentary makeup service. We did it, and it was nice, but a little much. I don't see any reason to come here again. Buywithme served its purpose: we saved $126 (with tip and without the massage) and we got to try a new place, which obviously needs buywithme deals for business. read more

I got my hair cut by Svetlana and I've been crying for days. She didn't listen to me & proceeded to chop all of my hair into a short trendy cut that I didn't ask for. Plus, the cut is not even on both sides of my head. I look so bad that I've been avoiding mirrors and estimate that it will take about 6 months for my hair to grow to a point where I don't feel horrible and ugly. Would NEVER go back. read more

I got a gift certificate for this spa and got a great facial and blowout, but I had the worst massage of my life. And I have gotten a lot of massages. I have literally never complained about any. Ever. I complained to the front desk and they told me a manager would definitely be calling me that day. Never got a phone call and I even wrote an email to them and never heard back. I really liked the other services but clearly costumer service is lacking and they do not want to deal with a less than happy customer. I went to Daryl Christopher with a great Buywithme certificate for the Cut, Color/highlights, and mani/pedi. It was right near my work and I was really looking forward to it!! Loved the Hair ... the stylist, Delilah was fabulous! I went in unsure of what type of cut I wanted and after a consultation she knew exactly what to do. The highlights also came out great and I got a clear color glaze. I have receive so many complements since I had it cut. If this review was just for the hair portion of my service I would have given this place 5 stars! Unfortunately, things went downhill from there when I had my nails done. The nail technician seemed extremely inexperienced. There was nothing relaxing about the pedi, foot scrub/exfoliating portion lasted not even 1 min total. She was sooo slow with everything else, and in the end the polish was so sloppy it looked like my 7yr old had painted my nails. Their website lists "expertly polished nails" when describing their services. Honestly my cuticles and around my nails were covered in polish. She used her nail polish remover/corrector "pen" to try and fix it. But in the end it was just sloppy. On my way out I showed the front desk staff who agreed and said "she could have cleaned it up a bit more". Umm, how they consider this to be expertly polished nails is beyond me. It is embarrassing for them to employ such unskilled technicians when they are normally charging $88 for a mani & pedi! (not to mention the nails chipped the next day and toes chipped on day 3! I think this was because some nails weren't even completely coated with the polish/topcoat) Since the staff acknowledged the nails were indeed "not cleaned up" and didn't offer anything to fix it, I would not recommend them for any type of nail services. I went to Daryl Christopher Salon for the first time about 6 months ago when I got a deal through Buywithme.com. I met Naomi who did my highlights, color, glaze and blow dry. The color came out amazing - a perfect match to my natural color - just masking all the grays. The highlights were out of this world It was everything I ever wanted from the highlights - the thickness, the color, the shading - PERFECT! I have since been to the salon 3 times and seen Naomi every time for what I would call a perfect color each time. Last time I went I also got a haircut, which was great as expected. The salon is in a great location with plenty of parking The staff is very attentive form the moment you walk in to the time you leave. They have an array of services, which i can't wait to try. While the price for services is very expensive, I think its worth it. read more

I am from Connecticut and found Daryl Christopher salon on line to book an "up-do" appointment Saturday afternoon on 4/13/19 for a wedding. My original appointment was for 1:00 PM, however, I was in the same plaza about 2 hours earlier and took a chance that they could accommodate me at that time. As soon as I walked into the salon, it was a beautiful place. I was greeted by the receptionist who immediately asked if I wanted any coffee or water and also asked the stylist if she could take me earlier; which Mary Ann did, as she was available. I also noticed that they have a make-up artist on site as well, so I booked the appointment after my hairstyle with Maggie. They both did a phenomenal job and I appreciate everyone's flexibility. I think if I had stayed with my original later appointment, I would have been rushing to get to the wedding. I would recommend this salon without hesitation. Thank you all! read more

Still my favorite place for color. Stylists seem to come and go, but they are all good. Only negative is I have had a little trouble with appointment scheduling lately. I did not get a confirmation call on my last appointment which should have been a tip-off. When I got there my appointment was not in the book. Noone seemed very apologetic and they tried to put me with another colorist. Luckily when I talked to Kathleen, she was able to squeeze me in and gave me a complimentary blowdry for the inconvenience. read more

I love this salon! When I moved to Boston from NY I was afraid to let anyone here touch my hair! I was afraid to try someone new but I had heard good things about the salon so I decided to come in for a blowout. I was very impressed and immediately scheduled my next appointment to get my hair cut. When the receptionist called to confirm my appointment she offered me a free(!!) facial at their spa before my appointment! The facial was good, not the best I've ever had but not bad either, and an excellent way to start my day! I've been coming regularly to the salon for a little over two years now, and can't imagine going anywhere else! Donna does all of my hair services. She gives an excellent cut, beautiful color, and will spend the extra time to give you a fantastic up-do for a formal event! If you're looking for a luxury spa experience, look elsewhere. DC is more like a salon in a phys factory--Health Spot and BSC included. You derive no sense of calm, serenity, or privacy; the spa waiting area is adjacent to the manicurists, so instead of relaxing, you get to listen to yak, yak, yak. I'm all for chats at the salon, but this is supposed to be a spa experience. In all fairness, my masseur was extremely talented (I had scheduled a masseuse, but they changed it and didn't even bother to call and ask whether I'd mind) . He knew right where to find those aches and pains, and he did great work to knead them out. In short, if you're all business and just want to get the work done, DC might be OK for you. If you're looking for a more relaxing experience, DC isn't it. read more

Although it's a bit of a drive, I think of going "out to the country" from the city - to a peaceful, relaxing place. Angela gives me a wonderful haircut, taking my hair texture and wave into her plans. And I've never had better color - natural and flattering. I had my hair cut here a year or so ago and was happy with my initial appointment. When I went back for another appointment my previous stylist was out on leave and they put me with someone else who they assured was "great". She not only insulted me about my hair, which has always been very thick and healthy, she used a razor to cut certain parts. I was most likely too trusting in her, but the next week my hair started breaking off in the area where she used the razor. Before this haircut I rarely even had split end let a lone hair breaking off. Hands down the WORST haircut I've ever had. I ended up cutting my hair short to avoid the strange shorter on top look she had given me. It truly was awful, my hair is just about back to normal now. read more

Recently had a massage and mani/pedi at Daryl Christopher. Ann Marie is the masseuse and she is AMAZING. It was by far the best massage I've ever had. The mani/pedi was great too. I had Brittany and she convinced me to get a gel manicure; it was my first time and I'm hooked! She did a great job and I'm excited to have a manicure that lasts 2-3 weeks instead of 3 days! The pedicure room is a little tired and could use some sprucing up...maybe some new chairs - they're ancient! The flooring and walls need a little work too.I love the relaxation room - great place to sit in between treatments. Across the hall from the salon is a small cafe, serving salads, sandwiches, soups etc. In between services I had a Greek salad with chicken and it was delicious. This is by far the absolute WORST salon and day spa ever. I was fifteen minutes late for a 6pm wax appointment because of extreme traffic coming from Boston and the woman left WITHOUT calling me to let me know she was leaving. The woman at the front desk was extremely rude and everyone who works there sucks. I would never step foot back in that salon and trust me, spend your money elsewhere where you will be treated with respect. I have never heard of anyone not calling to notify that the person is LEAVING and not going to take you. Not to mention the salon looks like it was built in 1960 - they need to get with the times. read more

Major haircut disappointment. Nikki was friendly but her technique was not precise. She worked in sharp, jerky movements, using a comb that was way too large for my fine hair. The worst part was that she did not do what she said she was going to do. I ended up with the shortest haircut I have ever had, and it was not what she promised. I asked for bangs swept to the side, I did not get that. When I expressed my disappointment, she just hid in the back and would not talk to me. The manager offered a $20 gift card to use when I would come back the next time. I did not accept as I will never be back. The skill level definitely does not match the price of the haircut, and the professionalism was definitely not there. How do you not take responsibility for your work? I used a buy with me coupon to get a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure all in the same day. When I got there I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who checked me in and then walked me over to the spa. They had free bagels w/cream cheese, water and fruit out for the spa guests. I waited for about 5 minutes and was greeted by my massage therapist named Gary. Gary gave an excellent massage. I moved on from my massage to another room where Jess gave me a facial. Jess did a great job on my facial. After the facial, i was lead over to a small room where a woman (can't remember her name) gave me a pedicure. The pedicure was nothing special. They put out free bit size sandwiches for lunch time which was a nice touch. The same woman did my manicure as well which was just so so. I enjoyed my experience at DC but I would not go back there and pay full price for any of the services I received. The manicure/pedicure is no where near worth $88. Bottom line, it was a great deal to get all of those services for $99.00. The spa was clean, quiet and had a nice atmosphere. read more

I have been going to D. Christopher for over ten years now and I love it! Other Newbury Street Spas were very snooty and the robes are made for sizes 0-6 only - that's no way to start a spa day. So, at D. Christopher they have robes for normal sized people and services for everyone. Ellen the facialist is magic and has tended my very sensitive skin for years. I have had a variety of masseuses and mani/pedi practitioners, and all were good. Recently, I needed to have a cut and color and my regular hairdresser was away. So, I decided to see Becca for my cut and color. She had done a blow-out for me after massages and facials in the past (your hair is always a big mess after those services) and she did a great job. So, after 11 years of the same haridresser, Becca did my roots and a cut. She is FABULOUS! She is talented, upbeat, nice to chat with, and very skilled. My hair is gorgeous! She matched the root color perfectly and gave me a very bouncy, flippy cut just like I wanted. Also, Daryl gives UNBELIEVABLE shampoos with massage. I wish she could wash my hair every day! The staff at D. Christopher is super friendly and welcoming. There is no snooty feeling, and the prices are not super-snooty either. I am happy to go to D.C. for another ten years! read more
