The facial itself was so relaxing and the results are wonderful -- my skin always feels better after a facial, but this is the first time I have actually SEEN a noticeable difference in my skin, amazing. First and foremost, let me express that I previously reviewed this salon about a year ago and gave the salon 5 stars hands down for their outstanding talent and top notch customer service. Well, lets just say, what a difference a year makes. If I could give "0" stars I would. Here's my story... Just about a week ago, I booked an appointment for a highlight (balayage) and scheduled it with Lauren. This was my first time seeing her. The appointment was for 5:15P. I arrived earlier than scheduled knowing that this would take some time. When I sat in the chair I proceeded to let Lauren know exactly what I wanted which was to lighten my hair to a shade of gold blonde balayage (my natural color is brown-black & I was well aware this would take several appointments to achieve). Her first response to me was "I have to leave here by 7:30P and getting the color you want is not happening today". Certainly not the type of response I was expecting especially since this was my first time seeing her. In hindsight I should of probably taken that as a hint & left to save my hair from what was a nightmarish outcome. But I decided to stay, a decision I ultimately regretted. Needless to say after about an hour of application and processing, Lauren informs me that she can't "fit me in" for a blow dry and I will need to leave the salon with my hair wet. My first thought was how can you tell if the color came out okay? Well, guess what? It didn't. When I returned home after paying a whooping cost of $220 my hair was orange and patchy. Best way to describe it is looking at a strand of hair and having color at the top, none in the middle and then color on the end. It was a complete and utter disaster. It looked absolutely horrible to the point of embarrassing. In fact, I had to go to a different salon pay an additional $300 to have it colored corrected and fixed to look half way decent which is still a work in progress. Anyhow, after this complete nightmare I will not be returning to this salon. Furthermore I do not recommend this place to anyone unless your goal is to look like mascot clown from McDonald's. This was probably the worst salon experience of my life. Save yourself the agony and money, not worth it. read more

I was in the Waltham area over Valentine's Day weekend and spent a very relaxing few hours at Daryl Christopher. The moment I walked in the door I was greeted by a friendly receptionist and while I was about 15 minutes early for my appt they took me right away! My first appt was for a Daryl Christopher facial. Wow!!! The room was very cozy, the bed was heated (unexpected pleasant surprise),it even had a relaxing smell!! I was asked a few questions at the beginning but was basically left to chill while she did her magic on my face! I think I fell asleep! Afterward she gave me a little advice on my skin and my regimen but did not push any product whatsoever which was good (nothing worse than pushy sales people wanting to sell you their product)! Next up was a wash, cut and blowdry with Hilda. I was a little hestiant at first having a complete stranger cut my hair as I have been going to the same hairdresser for 10+ years at my home in FL. Should not have worried at all, Hilda did a great job. She listened to exactly what I wanted! The products that she used on my hair left it so shiny and in amazing condition that when checking out I had to buy them!! Last but not least was a manicure and pedicure. As I sat back and read the abundance of magazines that they had on hand the technician went to work! I love that the manicure and pedicure was not rushed. There is nothing worse than having someone not take their time! She did an amazing job, and I was surprised that the polish stayed on my nails longer than usual! Need to find out what she did different as the polish usually chips off within a day or two. At one point I asked if they had a mint as I was super hungry and knew I had at least an hour before I was finished. The technician came back with a plate full of yummy ginger cookies and chocolate! So sweet!! Checking out was a breeze. The receptionist was extremely courteous and very friendly! I wish I lived in the area so I could make this my local go to place! They have everything under one roof! Heck there is even a gym upstairs. The salon is located in a corporate park and not that hard to find! I live in FL and was able to find it with no problems. I will definitely go back to Daryl Christopher next time I am in the area...................I might even book a trip for an excuse to come back! read more

I have very thin hair that has a mind of its own and have great difficulty getting a good cut. A friend recommended Hanh Ivas to me and I thought I would give her a try since I'm usually disappointed with my haircuts. Armed with some pictures on my phone, I showed Hanh basically what I wanted for a cut. She listened carefully and looked at what I had brought. She is truly an artist! After explaining why some of the cuts I liked would not work with my fine hair, she asked me about the approximate length I wanted and other specifics. At this point, I felt very comfortable leaving the decision in her hands. I am SO glad I did. Unquestionably, this was the BEST haircut I've ever had. She was able somehow to make my hair look more voluminous even without product. This is why I call her an artist. Hanh recommended some products to me and I have been able to recreate the look on my own with the products. If I could give her 10 stars I would!! I tried several stylists since I had moved from the area. My thin lifeless hair looked thin and lifeless. I was so excited to find Hanh again! She took the mess the other stylists had made and transformed my hair, once again, to look fuller and have no cowlicks sticking up all over the place! It's over an hour drive to get to her, but it's what you find at the end of the drive that counts! The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! She's THE best! read more

After moving to the south shore area almost a year ago, I was so happy to learn that Hanh Ivas was still working here. I made an appointment asap and explained to her that I had tried 2 different stylists near me, over a few months, in the hope that it would someday look like I hadn't cut it myself . They used thinning shears, a razor, and one time, an electric razor. My hair looked like a patchwork quilt ! I drove in horrible traffic, through the Braintree split, to reach Hanh. She reassured me it would be ok. Finally, the blunt cut uneven layers disappeared and my hair fell into place. She knew what products suited my hair texture and and made suggestions on what to say when I want a quick trim from a salon near home. I will definitely come back ,through horrible traffic ,to Hanh whenever my hair needs a great ,healthy hair cut. Coloring will also be happening. I was desperate for a manicure. My nails are a wreck and I am headed out of town, so I discovered that this salon is closest to my office and they do gel manicures for $35. The going rate for a gel manicure is $25-30 at your average salon, so I was ok with the convenience surcharge. I was able to get right in, which was excellent. The shop was quiet because it was so early in the morning. Everyone in the salon was friendly and customer-focused. My 1-star review is based solely on the manicure I received. It took 22 minutes from start to finish. First she dabbed nail polish remover on my nails and got off some of the polish. Next she filed and buffed my nails. Then she used nail polish remover as a wetting agent to clean up my cuticles. Then she did 1 coat of base, 2 coats of polish and 1 coat of top coat with the curing light. She gave a quick wipe of my nails to remove residue, rubbed some lotion on my hands and arms and sent me on my way. Back at work I realized that I have gel nail polish stuck to my skin on every finger, especially in the corners. I said my nails were a wreck and they are short, but a skilled person can still "paint within the lines" or clean up as they go. Anyone who has had gel polish knows that once that polish lifts up (like in a corner) it is only a matter of time before the polish pulls off and the entire thing needs to be redone -- as I am trying to scrape the gel off my skin it's pulling away at the corner of almost every nail. So, this manicure may not even hold up the weekend, never mind the 2-3 week's you expect when you pay for gel polish. Bottom line: don't go here for nail services. Truly disappointing and a waste of money. Update: 4 days later enough polish had lifted/chipped away that I needed another manicure! read more

I was looking for a new place as I recently moved here. I was a walk in and they were able to take me right away. Offered coffee, tea, water. The stylist listened to what I wanted. I'm someone that has been getting my hair died every 4-6 weeks for 15 years. I got some highlights and low lights along with a glaze totaling 225. The color looked great upon leaving the salon but as soon as I got to my house my mom asked me why my hair had 2 orange spots. Yup it has a few obvious ones. The stylist did say I should come back in two weeks for some toner...never in the 15 years has someone recommended that. I was then asked if I wanted to leave the salon with wet hair or have it blow dried. Well I had a date the next day so I definitely wanted it blow dried. It always lasts a couple days. Well It was totally flat after - I could have done a better job. I will be washing and doing my own hair before my date now. I was unable to put tip on the card. When I walked in the tip said it couldn't go on credit cards so I asked just credit and the receptionist said just credit. So I thought I was safe with debit. I only had a little cash so I couldn't leave much. I won't be returning. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. To expensive for the quality. read more

I first went to Daryl Christopher for a blowout for a wedding. I'm not from the area, but visit often because of family. I had a great experience from the minute I stepped in. The reception/waiting area is comfortable, warm, and inviting. You are offered a beverage on multiple occasions. My blowout for the event lasted throughout the evening-- it was a hot and humid summer day. While there, I saw a client leave with the most amazing color and blowout. I was told that the colorist/stylist was Hahn, who had spent the day fixing that client's hair. The client looked like she stepped out of a shampoo commercial. So, when I was back in town again, I decided to make an appointment with Hahn for a cut and color and ended up with amazing highlights and great cut! Hahn fixed my wonky haircut and helped me with refreshing my color. She really listened to me and took great personal care to ensure that the color was applied thoroughly and correctly. Hahn did all the coloring herself, which I appreciate. I'll definitely be back again! read more

Was very disappointed- the stylist did not listen to what my daughter wanted. She went her own route, and - going in for summer blond highlights - ended up with hair darker than she started with. The next day stylist offered to give hair a "facial" to strip off some of the darkener... and STILL didn't ask her how she wanted her hair dried. $310 later, her hair looks pretty much how it did before she went in - and they have said they will not highlight it the way she first asked for it at a later time. They don't listen and they won't fo what they should to make it right. Avoid them! read more

This was the best part of the experience, and I feel like the facials at Daryl Christopher are the best service to get here. I would gladly pay $100 for this. Robin was very nice, altered the facial to my needs, and made my skin look amazing. For the massage, it was pretty disappointing. I would never pay $100 for what I got. No real pressure, just kind of a "meh" experience. And the woman's hands and oil were cold, and she never smiled. For the mani/pedi...the pedi was ok. I actually felt like she spent a lot of time with my toes, and she was a nice person. The manicure was pretty terrible. Color is gorgeous, but I'm done with stylists in Boston. I don't know if it's a case of let the new girl get her haircut by the person no one wants or what. I'd like to be listened to JUST ONCE. Haven't felt like this since I was six and my mom cut my hair off and someone called me a boy. So, first things first. It's hard to find. I know they are green, but recycling someone's dirty, broken cabinets and salon furnishings doesn't make me feel pretty. Call me crazy, but I like sparkling clean salons and spas. Andif this is a "new" location, why not a fresh coat of paint to make the place look new. I really wish I hadn't paid so much money to have to put my hair up everyday until this grows out. I asked for a trim of my long bob, and was talking into layers, as I was told I should keep the length. Somehow that meant chopping off 4 inches, and giving me bangs, which I always say NO to. I didn't get a chocie here. I was told it was a side sweep, but somehow it ended up being bangs that I will be pinning back daily until they grow out. Yippee. read more

This place didn't get my last star because the first time I went, service was amazing, haircut was amazing, the whole experience was great. But the second time around, haircut was okay, but service was quite horrible and they definitely mistreated my friend who went because of my strong recommendation. First time I went, I was feeling spontaneous for the day so I randomly walked in and got matched up with an amazing designer named Dan (i think, I am sorry but it was a while back, but I do remember he's an older male, tall and slim, from Cape Cod). He was absolutely fabulous. My hair is usually quite difficult to deal with because each hair itself is very thin but overall I have A LOT of hair on my head. He did an amazing job cutting them short and offered me a brand new hairstyle I've never had before. Prior to that visit, I haven't had short hair for 6 years, and I immediately fell in love with what he did for me without any regrets. Second time I went, my friend and I took the spa week advantage and signed up for the $50 haircut. Even with our reservation we found that they didn't have designers ready for us when we arrived and we end up starting our haircut 30 mins apart from each other. The designer I had left me in the middle of the haircut with water going down my shirt underneath the cape for about half an hour while she dealt with a weekend job she had coming up. My friend's designer was extremely inexperienced and asked her to stand the whole time her hair was being cut because the designer said she has no idea what to do w/ her hair. It was very disappointing for me to run into such a bad day at Daryl Christopher's, but I still remain hopeful because at least I got a decent haircut. I do plan on going back again to give them another chance to wow me. read more

After my horrible experience at Spa Newbury, I thought I'd write this overdue review about this great spa. I booked an appointment here during Spa Week for the Hot Stone Massage. Since I was not asked whether I preferred a male or female, I was initially apprehensive about receiving the massage from a male (I've only had a massage from a male once before, and I felt very uncomfortable). However, that apprehension quickly dissipated because he totally made me feel comfortable and relaxed. He asked me if I want to do the entire massage with the hot stones or if I wanted a deep tissue massage for the second half of the session. I really appreciated that option and opted for the deep tissue during the second half. The massage had the perfect amount of pressure, and he was very friendly. He made me feel so comfortable that during the massage, I completely forgot he was a male. The waiting room could use a little bit more ambiance, but all in all, I would highly recommend this spa for its massages! Great experience!! read more

They tried. They did. But it came up short. I tried a 50 minute Swedish massage here I scheduled for two days after I ran a half marathon, so needless to say, I was looking forward to it. They called me the day of to tell me my massage had been canceled because the massage therapist was out sick. Arg. Ok, I was pissed because I so so stiff and because the woman wasn't too accommodating on the phone (it was the massage for spa week and they didn't have any more time at the end of the day during the week...ok, what about next week? Hello?). I said I would come in early in the morning and she said Friday. It was Tuesday. Fine. She tried. Friday comes and I show up right on time. My massage therapist didn't. She was 20 minutes late. Apparently there was a mix-up for which Daryl Christopher she was supposed to be at. So. Now I'm late for work. Fine. She gave me a $20 coupon off for my next treatment to make up for it. Except by the time I got out, I was so late, I got a parking ticket (and I even put in 15 minutes more just in case!). Nothing pisses me off more than parking tickets. As far as the massage goes, it was good and nice and relaxing and thorough, but it was all such a headache, I felt like I couldn't enjoy it. read more

This is the best Salon and Spa. The staff is so friendly and professional. They use clean and non-toxic products which I love because I have a sever sensitivity to chemicals, as well eczema and need to be very careful with what comes into contact with my skin. The Salon is very clean and comfortable. I get a zen feeing when I come in and relax and the bright and airy atmosphere. Hanh did an awesome job with my cut and highlights, after my cut and highlights my hair was super soft and feels amazing. How does anyone who doesn't work nearby find this place? I guess if you're a Celtic and you work out at the BSC, you could find it, but I think they get their own massage therapists. I had a delicious massage from Angela P. here. She was REALLY amazing. Apparently, the facials (Stephanie and Jessica - maybe Jennifer? - were also really good. Rosa cut my sister's hair quite nicely as well. There is a comfortable lounge area with tea and water and bagels and cream cheese. The magazines are a little out of date, but I don't get TV Guide or Teen Vogue, so it was all new to me. They also offer a complimentary hair washing after a massage or facial (not a dry, just a wash), so you can get that greasy deliciousness our of your hair. I do think that the prices are high for the area. I mean, I can get less expensive massages in NYC. And I get a robe and a shower to use afterwards. However, the staff is totally unpretentious, and it has lots of parking. Then wait 15 minutes for an awkward male who lightly rubs you down talking the entire time and cuts you 5 minutes at the end? THEN proceeds to complain about how they over book him at the salon and he's taking up to 8 hour long appts a day and by 6pm (when you are there) he's wiped out! That he also thinks the salon's prices are too high but "it is what it is"! I left completely un-refreshed, annoyed and pissed that I spent any money at all. Not to mention the guy was so friggin awkward and weird I have no idea how he wanted to enter into a field that requires you to touch people all day for a living. I actually really like this place - yes, it is pricey, but I've never had any problems and thought that the stylists there were pretty good. It was awesome to finally have someone give me their opinion on certain styles that might go well with me (I usually just get a stylist who asks "So, waddya want?") It was great to have her ideas, because she came up with some style tips that I wouldn't have thought of and ended up liking! However, the five stars definitely goes to Lisa in the Spa department. I've been getting my Brazilian wax done with her for a while now. She is the best, most professional (and thorough) esthetician I have ever had. This counts majorly because getting a Brazilian can be a horrific experience bordering on torture if the person who waxes you doesn't know what they are doing. Don't get me wrong, it still hurts like hell - but she makes the experience as pleasant as it can be (and that's a really, really difficult thing to do.) read more

Like many Yelpers, I initially discovered DC via a BuyWithMe deal for a mani/pedi, facial, massage and express highlight/cut/style. Unlike most, I had no problem finding the salon (carefully follow the signs from Winter Street and you should be fine) and I've become a regular client. Since my initial visit, I've enjoyed services from three different, talented nail techs (Theresa is my favorite just for the conversation). I love the relaxed spa-like atmosphere, complete with lemon water and hot tea, and the organic nail polish options. My only complaint: the nail prices are a bit hefty compared to other salons; if DC drops their nail prices a smidge, I'd become a regular for these services, too. The massage and facial were good but not amazing. For the extra money you spend at DC, I expect the amenities found at other high end spas (paraffin hand treatment and massage while you wait for the mask to dry, more attention to extractions and less reliance on the needles, larger more attractive treatment rooms, etc.). The reason I've become a regular client...NAOMI. She does a great cut and color, and I love the express highlight option. Worth every penny. Plus, the scalp massage is excellent - better than any other salon experience I've had in the Boston area - and the hair products are all organic. And, their salon prices are competitive! I live in Boston so it's not typical for me to venture beyond the hub for anything - except a great deal! I was given a buywithme coupon for a massage, facial, mani/pedi and headed out to Waltham (and free parking!). My initial experience was over the phone and due to the coupon expiring the following week, the spa was booked solid - but they accommodated me by allowing me to schedule the following week. Thank you so much! One suggestion I have is to help those of us who are suburb-phobes understand how to get there (aka, off the exit you'll drive into office-park land and pass the reservoir, etc.). I got off the exit fine, but once on Winter I was a little confused, turned around thinking I shouldn't be going into an office park, put my GPS on and turned around again. The actual turn-off to this complex does not say 840 - it says 850, so I drove in circles a bit. The spa area is quaint - a big, comfy couch with teas/waters, etc. The only thing that is a bit odd is the changing area - it's a small locker area, so be prepared to change into a robe by closing the locker area door (I wasn't given clear instructions on what the deal was there) - I didn't see any shower or the other amenities you usually get, but they made good use of the space. My massage with David was incredible. He's experienced in deep muscle work and after a brief consultation, he dove in - way in! I love deep tissue massage and it's really hard to find someone as adept as David. I loved (hated) loved every blissful/painful moment! Olga was my esthetician and she is a lovely, informed woman who gave me lots of pointers and suggestions and a thorough facial with extraction - which we all love!!! The nail salon is nice - the chairs are a bit stiff (no massaging) but it's clean and well kept and both pedicure and manicure were very thorough and have lasted a while. Overall a great experience! Those who live in the area are very lucky to have this high-end option for great spa services. If I had to pay full price I'd probably stick to Newbury Street, but with this deal it was incredible and I'm glad I ventured out! Thank you!! read more

Not only were the services we had at Daryl Christopher all terrific (facial, massage, mani/pedi), but the staff could not have been more accommodating and wonderful. I took my mother as a gift, and we had to do a lot of rescheduling for medical reasons. Not only could they accomodate us graciously schedule-wise, but once there, everyone was highly supportive and respectful of her needs (she has several physical limitations now). Providers we had included: Janice and Jess for the facials and Theresa and Rosa for the mani/pedis - all were great. But I can't afford anymore fancy manicures. Having said that, I can't for the life of me wrap my head around the $35 blow dry they always want to give me. Why isn't it included in the cost? And other than the time which can't be more than 5 minutes, what am i getting other than hot air, literally? Do you realize that's 420/hr for blow drying services @ 5 minutes per... I had a wonderful experience at the Daryl Christopher Spa! I had a deal from Buywithme and received a mani/pedi, massage and facial. The massage was very relaxing and the room was very cozy. Cheryl did a good job and was attentive to the problem areas I mentioned. The facial with Olga was also great - my skin is so soft now! The owner is amazing, the place is clean and easy to get to. I have only been here a couple times for facials. My most recent service was in October 2017 and it was not good at all, however the first person was amazing. I'm averaging it out at 3 stars. I'll read more

I've been to high-end places in Boston, mid-priced day spas in Waltham/Belmont/Watertown, but when it comes to being able to conveniently schedule an appointment (last minute after work blow-dry) and consistent quality of experience....Daryl Christopher always delivers. This place is a very good go-to full-service salon when I'm not interested in exploring. The staff is cordial and efficient. Free parking at HealthPoint. Robert does great cuts/blowdrys, and my course hair is no picnic. I've never used them for a massage, but I did some facial waxing and their spa technician was WONDERFUL. (Wish I remember her name). Usually, my face is a cherry bomb after a wax. She used Neosporin and another creme on my face afterwards...no redness after 20 minutes. What a surprise! With my ultra-sensitive skin, I was expecting to have to go into hiding. This place may be higher-priced than other metro-west day spas/salons...but it's worth it. You can get hair, nails, spa stuff all in one place. Bottom line: clean, convenient, good scheduling availability, and nice, proficient staff. read more

I would gladly have shared this with the salon if there had been a way to get in touch with them via email. I was deeply disappointed in so many aspects of my experience at Daryl Christopher on 4/4: we were there celebrating my daughter's 21st birthday and I made a point of telling staff that... twice. Nothing- no acknowledgement of the occasion, nothing. The waiting area was littered with coffee cups, napkins, and papers- I actually began cleaning up and started the hot water dispenser so I could make myself a cup of tea since no one else offered. The area was was dirty and brightly lit and I felt as if I was intruding on two staff members who were sitting drinking coffee and munching on cake! The pedicure was overpriced ($55!) the chairs were incredibly uncomfortable and the service was scheduled before the facial, which meant we sat for close to 45 minutes so that our toes could dry before the facials began. How about you do the facials FIRST??? I was shocked at the price, since I assumed that I had booked two $40 pedicures, but I didn't want to make a scene and paid the extra $30 plus tip for manicures that I could have gotten at the mall. This is not my first experience at DC and none of them have been good. Frankly, resent the constant schilling of products at the end of service. I am sure the stylists get a cut- but please- enough! Olga does an amazing facial, but I am not sure, after spending all this money, and feeling less than happy AGAIN (there was also a hair coloring issue) that I will ever return.
