The sashimi platter was decent. Overall the experience was just average for me. I wanted to like it and had high hopes so maybe it was just the expectations. Unfortunately no real crab, limited selection and nearly every dish is chock full of gluten and soy. Did you know "krab" (imitation krab meat) has gluten in it? My wife ate daikon radish and I think one roll and a piece of tuna. There were 3 servers for pretty small restaurant but sadly they weren't very attentive. In fact, while we were there, I think a party of 7 or 8 people entered, stood in front of the door to be seated for 4 minutes and they got ignored so they left! The place is leaving money on the table, which is sad because they have every opportunity to be excellent. read more

Amazing sushi fusion! Chef Rie is genius! My son and I craved sushi. Thanks, Yelp, for helping us find this delicious eatery. Next to Asiana Market, Daruma offers rolls dressed with fresh aromatics and sauce. Iced smoky toasted green tea is your a yelp Check-in gift. Mika surprised us with a complimentary Vegas Roll. This is the best deep fried roll ever. Thinly sliced with beautiful rice that has a secret cooking method chef uses, cream cheese, imitation crab filling and sweet potato, maybe, wrapped in seaweed and deep fried. Dressed with Sriracha mayo and a sweet molasses dark soy sauce, micro greens and fried shallots. We had to order another one, it was that good. The albacore cream roll was also divine. White, thinly sliced fish topped a roll filled with cream cheese, crab meat and crunchy tempura. Cilantro, fried garlic and a lovely acidic and spicy vinaigrette accompanied this beautiful roll. Check out their Tonkatsu ramen. Soft, yellow ramen in a deep, roasted pork bone broth topped with coddled egg, sliced roast pork with gorgeous grill marks, julienned burdock root, fried shallots and frilly green onion. I can't wait to try the miso based ramen next. We were so stuffed that we couldn't make a proper dent on our Salmon teriyaki entree. It came with a miso soup that was en pointe. Sizzling in a cast iron plate atop thinly sliced onions caramelizing with zucchini served with the amazing rice. Tables are well spaced for physical distancing. The decor was minimal and beautiful. The hospitality shown by the servers, sweet and fast. We will be back! read more

What a precious find! A locally owned and operated Japanese restaurant, with authentic cuisine. On Sat, Sept 12th, we spotted this new place while scrolling on Yelp and went for dinner. Here's are some of my thoughts: Chicken Karaage- Very good! It came out hot, fresh and the flavor was unique to any other ones I've had in a while! Cold Soba-Be prepared for a unique sweet broth with buckwheat noodles. Sashimi salad- I personally didn't have a chance to try this but was told that it was just okay. Mixed shrimp and vegetable tempura- Super! Green beans, kabocha (Japanese squash) onion, taro root, three shrimp and other vegetables. Even the sliced apple that came like the other items. Nicely, lightly coated and fried just right, not greasy. It was very delicious! The Vegas roll- Yummy! This roll had a perfect balance of cream cheese, salmon, krab and avocado. Again, it was fried with just the right amount of tempura batter coming out crisp and not like an over battered fish fry. Mask wearing, social spaced tables and grand service! Sake and beer are both presently available but wines and happy hour items will be added in the future. A very reasonable priced menu. Daruma has been open since August but on this day they were still offering the soft opening specials such as a complimentary Vegas roll and their 12 oz. iced green tea for 99 cents. I'll be back! read more

2.2/5: Ordered chicken yakisoba with soba noodles and extra chicken. Chicken was not extra and there was a taste I cannot put my finger on. Was okay but will never order that again. Ordered the Tonkotsu ramen. No mushrooms, no chasu pork, no garlic oil. Ordered it with all the fixens before and was not satisfied. Thought I'd try without and add beef. They forgot the beef and the broth was okay. Noods and the egg were good. Tried a friend's beer miso broth and liked it better. Ordered the Sui gyoza. Bland, soggy, mushy and the sauce was meh. Will not order again. This was the second time eating here in carry out. I think I will try another place in the future. read more

Decent food and prices. I go here fairly often. Nothing is amazing but it's solid for what you pay. The staff has always been very friendly.

Yummmm! I called in a pickup order for my family. We ordered the Mayu Tonkatsu Ramen, Miso Butter Ramen and Chicken Teriyaki. All of the dishes were delicious and had excellent flavors. Our favorite was the Mayu Tonkatsu and the Miso was the best we have ever had. The teriyaki had a delicious homemade sauce. The portion was definitely generous on the teriyaki chicken meal. The plating is top-notch as well. Very fair pricing for excellent quality cuisine. We will definitely be back! read more

Daruma - Ramen Near Me - Mesa, Arizona

Daruma's tag line is SUSHI ROLL NOODLE, clearly this a classic case of burying the lede. For those unfamiliar with this phrase time, it is time to crack open the virtual dictionary ... (def) ... Fail to emphasize the most important part of a story or account..... As they say in the spelling bee championships, judge can you use that in a sentence..... While Daruma offers excellent sushi and tasty rolls, they real bury the lede by failing to mention the excellent creative ramen options. In fact it is not even listed yet in the IRL or online menu that they offer a black tonkotsu ramen and a miso butter ramen with beautifully cooked soft eggs and tasty chashu pork, both can be made spicy but in this case we wanted to try the broth in its pure form and were not disappointed. Both broths were rich and flavorful but the miso butter ramen was a more unique experience and paired will with the corn and noodles. The server did bring out some pickled jalapeños which added another layer of flavor, for those who love ramen, this place should be added to the circuit. A few side notes, Daruma is still in the soft opening phase so that is why the ramen is not listed on the menu, I did confirm with the staff that it is offered every day. The dining room is spacious and the tables are spread out so we had no qualms about eating in which is the best situation as ramen should be eaten when the broth is steaming hot. While we did not have a chance to try it they also offer yakisoba as well as hot and cold noodles. The later is a classic dish enjoyed on a hot day which as we know in PHX can be 5 months of year. read more

We had our sushi delivered, and this was our first time ordering at Daruma Sushi. I have no problem paying for quality sushi and BAY Beeee! This exceeded my expectations! I had the poke roll much chefs kiss. The seaweed on top gives the dish a nice tangy sweetness. I also had the Geisha roll fresh and tasty My man had the Daruma roll and the dragon roll. Normally, he goes with a safe and simple shrimp tempura roll, and he is very happy with these two. We have finally found some local sushi we can order right to our door that's worth it! read more

Ordering was easy and delivery was on time. However, this is the third time we have ordered from Daruma with the first two orders being exceptional in taste and presentation. We were very disappointed with the recent order as the California roll fell completely apart and became impossible to pick up with chopsticks. The rice on the remaining rolls held together a little better. The quality of the food has some room for improvement. Not sure we will be using Daruma again. read more

Definitely found a new restaurant to enjoy and glad we tried Daruma. Happy hour offers a few good choices for a couple of dollars off. We started with a nice seaweed salad, good flavor and refreshing. Then tried the heart attack, mmm I loved the heat from the jalapeños plus the sweetness from what tasted like an eel sauce on top. We then had some chicken kaarage, which was my wife's favorite. We asked for it well done, perfect amount of crunch! And for our rolls, we went with the tiger roll and the Vegas roll. The tiger roll had spicy tuna inside with shrimp and avocado on the outside. It was delicious and so happy the spicy tuna was nice and chopped. It's my personal preference when it's not a chunk of tuna, definitely a texture thing for myself. The Vegas roll was fried with salmon, crab, and cream cheese on the inside. It actually melted in your mouth, the warmed cream cheese was a nice touch. Looking forward to trying out some more options next visit! read more

We (party of two) were delighted with our first-time visit. The ramen and noodle dishes were really good, as was the egg roll starter. TLDR; great service, solid food, nice decor We came here for a lateish lunch. The ramen was really good, as the broth was well seasoned and rich with bouncy noodles. They charred the chashu which added to the flavor, and their eggs were perfectly done. The Sapporo Butter Miso broth was very rich and the texture of the broth was quite pleasing. We also got the unagi and salmon nigiri, both of which were also delicious. The unagi was perfectly fatty, while the salmon was also satisfying. The takoyaki had really good flavor, but I generally prefer mine with more octopus chunks. The vegetable tempura didn't have too much batter but was still crispy. The dragon roll was pretty good. Due to my shellfish allergy I didn't get it with the shrimp tempura roll, but the eel was nicely done and the roll itself hit the spot. They also gave us a free roll for messing up our order, and the waiter was really nice. All in all, a satisfyingly good lunch. read more

Cute restaurant. Spacious seating. A little confused upon entering. I wasn't sure if i was supposed to order at the counter as there was no one to greet us, so we sat ourselves at a table and soon after someone came out and took our order. Menu has some pictures which was helpful because if I had to order by name alone, don't know what I would have ended up with. First appetized on fried veggie egg rolls, potstickers and Alaskan sushi roll. All very delicious. Also had house salad with ginger dressing which was good. It looks and tastes like they use very fresh ingredients. I tried the level one Spicy ramen soup, which was just alright. The pork slices just seemed dry, hard and flavorless. The soup in general lacked more flavor. my husband had this super yummy sizzling teriyaki salmon. Looked, smelled and tasted delicious. Would def come back for happy hour appetizers and try something different, maybe even have a beer. Not a fancy first date type of place, but it is a new restaurant and possibly still a work in progress. Very friendly and attentive staff...almost to attentive, but I'll take it. Seemed to have a decent amount of customers. read more

Came by for dinner with an old friend and we weren't disappointed. I ordered some tuna and albacore sushi, along with the avocado shrimp tempura roll (to share), and my buddy got the Hungry Man roll (mainly because he had no idea what to order- and since he was hungry, it seemed right). Haha. Everything was pretty good and fresh, and the service was spot-on. The staff was super patient with us, which I'm grateful for. My buddy and I hadn't seen each other in so long, we kept getting sidetracked from ordering because we were catching up. Each time our servers would see if we were ready to order, I'd apologize and ask for a few more minutes- then get distracted all over again. So a huge thank you to the staff for staying patient! Would definitely come back again if I'm ever in that area and craving sushi. read more

This was one of those joints thats been sitting in my list for a minute, and with busy restaurants on Easter, how could I pass up on a table. I will say, the food presentation was better than the food itself but it wasn't bad at all. There's so much on the menu it's almost impossible to not want to go back. Here's this: Sui Gyoza - Gyozas in a Special Broth and Ryu, which I honestly don't know what that is. But it was a good dish, definitely order again. Vegetable Eggrolls - These were really good, came with a great dipping sauce, definitely one of the better apps. Heart Attack - Deep Fried Jalapeños, stiffed with Spicy Tuna drizzled with a sriracha Mayo and topped with sliced scallions. Not the greatest, I'll most likely pass next time. Mayu Tonkotsu Ramen - This was my favorite dish, loaded up with mad flavor, Broth was on point, Egg cooked perfect, Black Mushrooms, Black Garlic Oil, this bowl had it all. Pork was cooked tender. Would definitely order again. Give it a go. Vegas Roll - A beautiful dish, just nothing great in flavor. Tasted very plain and basic but again, not super bad. But. I'd explore something else if you're here. Poke Roll - This was actually decent, presentation was amazing but I think I killed it by pouring the wasabi sauce on it. Had I chose soy sauce instead I'm sure I would've had a much better experience. I've never been a fan or horseradish so it killed it for me. But give it a go, it's IG worthy and not bad at all. read more

In town for a wedding & decided to tank up before the ceremony... Appreciate everything about Daruma! Servers were quick to greet and seat us. Within 60 seconds, we had menus in front of us even with 80% of the tables full. For lunch, had the tuna carpaccio, a salmon roll, crunch roll, and dragon roll. My lunch mate typically doesn't eat raw fish, so the fact that all plates were clean before being swept off the table is a testament to how tasty the food is (it could also be the creamy onion sauce or the newfound eel sauce for him). As for ambiance: this is definitely a millennial/Gen Z spot with a splash of Gen X (read: a good variety of customers... I don't think anyone will worry about sticking out). For lunch, this looks like a fun stop to regularly bring friends & family (there's also some bar top space against the wall if you're looking to fly solo). Along the perimeter of the restaurant, curtains partition the tables and are really effective at cutting reverb and keeping things intimate. J-Pop plays lightly in the background... the volume is perfect (you can hold conversation without feeling like you have to talk over it). If I were local, I'd stop by regularly. I don't usually tip over the 20% mark, but the staff really earned it with perfect timing and genuinely friendly service from start to finish. Thanks, Daruma! read more

The service was outstanding! Friendly and fast. They have little partition for the table along the wall so it felt more intimate. Bathroom were clean. We ended up finishing an errand in Mesa around dinner time decided to grab a bite, so, obviously, off to Yelp for suggestions. Sushi sounded good, and Daruma had the best rating within 7 or 8 miles, so off we went. Pulling into the parking lot, it made me think I need to run errands down here around dinner time more often - several Asian restaurants in the center, and the parking lot was packed! We entered an were seated - everyone working there was very nice, especially the server. I was in the mood for nigiri, but was pretty tempted by the Ramen selection - next time I'm in the area, will have to give it a go. My lovely bride went with a roll. The nigiri was very nice, and beautifully presented (see my photo), though I prefer the Salmon without sliced lemon. It was really good. The boss liked her roll as well. Definitely going to have to come back to Daruma when I'm back in the neighborhood! Give it a try! read more

I had to stop one of them and asked if they'll help us or not. After being checked in, we had to wait another 20 min to be seated. It was a Saturday. So understandable that they are busy. I have been SEARCHING for a Yakisoba Style Udon restaurant after my favorite place in Vegas closed... I just didnt know I had to visit Mesa AZ!!! Cute new restaurant, staff really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our food AND that my grandma didnt have to stand too long while waiting for a table.... which is huge to me. Definitely try the Yakisoba with Udon Noodles, so savory and the thick noodles are really complimented by the crunchy cabbage and the juicy chicken. Both the Regular Udon and Tonkatsu Ramen were outstanding - each had broth that was EXACTLY how they should be. The dashi light - both sweet and savory... the tonkatsu was rich amd filling without being oily. We also really enjoyed the Sui Gyoza.... the broth has a nice citrusy zing and if you use your spoon it really gets into the Gyoza - sooo yummy!! We will def be back!! read more
