Here on the daily, love their chocolate city cold brew. Art is cool, staff is cool too. Generally pretty quick, their POS system is slow but seems like they recently fixed it so doesn't slow the line down anymore. Some good pastries/breakfast tacos and empanadas but they sell out quick so if you want those get there early. read more

Meddle Coffee Bar: If you've heard of Dark Matter Coffee, Meddle Coffee comes off as a subsidiary of sorts to the mainstay in Ukrainian Village. The coffee at meddle is dark and the cafe is well lit and aesthetically fun inside- the amazingly well themed decor makes it worth the visit alone! Agave Coffee: A cinnamon/chocolate base with a great coffee taste- the coffee was spot on with the amount of sweetness. I got a hot latte with almond milk and vanilla and it was the best latte I've ever had. It's so hard to do a good foam with almond milk. Cold brew on tap -- interesting concept, with great execution. The draft cold brews will wake you up but won't make you too wired. The servers have always been friendly when I've gone here. Come here early enough and try the empanadas from Cafe Tola -- the steak and potatoes is my favorite. It's very tasty and juicy, and goes well with the salsa (you might have to ask the cashier/barista for it). The artwork and interior decor is intricate and cozy. There are 3-4 large tables to work at inside and some tables set up outside as well. A nice bonus is that they have a carafe of oat milk, in addition to half and half, for you to add to your drink at no extra charge. read more

COVID-19 Review: They let one person in at a time and obviously masks are required! They had 4 flavors for their draft iced coffee but only 2 were available when I went. One hot cafe miel and one iced with a bean and goat cheese empanada and some kind of delicious cinnamon croissant with cream cheese frosting. Absolutely loved the artwork in this coffee shop. I kept getting distracted everytime I looked because of how cool it was. This is a Dark Matter cafe so they serve their coffee beans are obviously from here. This cafe is kind of small and have about 4 tables. You're probably going to end up sharing a table. I did not notice any outlets so I wasn't able to stay long and get work done. The baristas are super friendly and will help you out if you have any questions on their menu. I ended up ordering the Raspberry green tea and it was delicious! They have a nice long list of teas to choose which is great if you're not in the mood for coffee. The service was really good. I was undecided about the iced coffee (did not want nitro) and the coffee bar man gave me samples, tastes of Chocolate City, and Brown Acid. He described the hops layered into the Brown Acid. Wow, what a great coffee iced. My niece and I were able to sit outside -- comfortable chairs and steady sizable table. Plenty of room on the sidewalk for people with dogs, strollers, to walk by. I had just gotten off the bus two blocks away, from Wisconsin, and was ready for some coffee. It was our good fortune to find Dark Matter Coffee at Meddle on Jackson Blvd. It makes me want to return soon to Chicago for another trip to Meddle. So this place took some sleuthing. After sampling a cup of this finely crafted coffee at a local donut spot, I had to get some to take home. I inquired to the staff as to the artisan of this joyous joe. I was told "Dark Matter." So.. 1.) pull out phone 2.) fire up Yelp! 3.) type "Dark Matter." 4.) be sad when the only one that shows up is MILES away (and you're on the way to the airport) 5.) stomp feet and bawl 6.) calmly search internet 7.) get confused about the multiple local retailers 8.) ask concierge about it 9.) get directions to Meddle 10.) get here and immediately get taken in by the vibe and intoxicating aroma of interestingly curated, fresh coffees 11.) spend all the money (see below) 12.) enjoy your caffeinated state of bliss. Ok, maybe it wasn't that dramatic, but I definitely think tossing in a "Dark Matter" next to the "Meddle" in the name might help find it, or maybe it's trying to fly low (maybe that's the aim). Tucked next to JeffJack apartments, I found a small, yet hip interior decorated in a warm, psychedelic color palette. They have a super friendly and knowledgeable staff and a nice little menu. There are some baked treats available if your coffee gets lonely, and there are some gluten-free snacks as well (I noticed some muffins on my trip). Their featured brew on my visit is "Love Supreme," a delightful rendition of your average house blend. This brew, however, is anything but. I could definitely pick up the walnut and cocoa notes, but I was missing the light cordial cherry finish until about halfway through the cup. Light on acidity (at least to me), this is a nice cup to relax with, but would also be welcome on a morning commute or airport run. The shop has a myriad of beans and DM-branded items to pick up (shirts, cups, coffee accouterments, etc) for the coffee lover in your life. Perfect place for a quick coffee stop in the city! Meddle has an interesting vibe about it, to say the least. Think slightly punk rock yet mostly hipster feel, with purple neon signs and vintage wallpaper contrasted against modern furniture. They've got plenty of good drink options on their menu, and a small pastry selection if you're looking for a bite. I asked the nice staff member for recommendations on coffee (as this was my first time here), and she sold me on the barrel aged mocha. Because I was a first timer, she gave it to me for free! And while most often, they're not super friendly (not mean, just not very warm), there's a young guy who's been there for awhile now named Bernardo who is consistently very kind. Today he was there as was someone else named Sarah who I hadn't seen previously. She was also very kind and sweet. I simply wanted to say thanks to both Bernardo & Sarah. I tend to always go with a mocha of some sort and almond milk; yet, there is an awesome option here I'd suggest anyone try - Barrel-Aged Mocha. No, no, no it's not a boozy drink but the beans are barrel-aged with hints of chocolate and vanilla. This signature drink is so worth it. I've never had that level of sophistication in an espresso drink. It was refined, yet subtle and the small batches really add to the flavor profile for sure. This cup was warm, satisfying and totally blew me away! If you are in the mood/need for a stellar cup, with a cute ambiance then Meddle Coffee Bar is highly, highly recommended - per said coffee snob (me). read more

Meddle is one of my favorite coffee places in west loop! It's on the pricier side but the quality of the coffee really comes through. The coffee is strong and they have really unique coffee creations. My favorite is the dry-aged mocha. There's just something unique about the flavor. Not only is Meddle Coffee Bar aesthetically pleasing, but their coffee concoctions are top notch as well. There's lots to see when you walk in - cool furniture, unique murals, white tiling, hanging pendant light fixtures, and a blue and yellow swirled floor. The music is a bit loud for my liking, but it did fit the vibe. MCB offers your typical coffee and tea beverages along with some pretty inventive signatures including an agave latte, mayan mocha, barrel-aged mocha, and chai latte. They brew Intelligentsia coffee which is always a win in my book. I was happy that they could make any of their lattes decaf, and decided to go with the agave latte which included agave (obviously), cinnamon, and chocolate. Just the afternoon treat I was looking for! I was pleased when my beverage was handed to me lid off with some beautiful latte art. Instagram-worthy for sure. I highly suggest the agave latte. It was packed with flavor and not too sweet. Just enough chocolate and cinnamon. They offer free wifi and some interesting seating options including a combo of leather benches and black chairs around white tables. I was meeting a couple people here for a work meeting and while the coffee shop itself was definitely a great conversation starter and WAY better than your typical Starbucks, it was a bit too loud for a productive meet up. Luckily, this was a quick recap meeting so it worked out fine, but I wouldn't suggest posting up for a while if you've got phone calls to make or business to discuss. I also didn't see any outlets to plug in a lap top, but maybe I just wasn't looking in the right place. Overall I really did love the vibe and of course the coffee at Meddle and will be keeping this spot in mind for the future. Super cool coffee shop! I found out about meddle from IG and found out it was super close to school (UIC) so I decided to check it out! Also it's dark matter so I couldn't pass it up! I love glass windows so that's a first good impression for me, also love the art on the walls as well and their Halloween decor stuff! The barista is a sweetheart and told me a little bit about meddle coffee bar it being around for a few years now. I just had a black coffee cause I'm super simple and love dark matter's drip coffee. This coffee bar has so much swagger! I'm obsessed with the classy decor and neon signage... talk about ~style with ease~. The cappuccino is excellent- dark and rich with creamy, dense foam on top. Order an 8 oz "for here" and it comes in a small glass. I highly recommend the Lucila's alfajores they have in a basket next to the other baked goods. They're an Argentine treat with perfect lemony cookies, a thick layer of dulce de leche and a coconut topping. The coffee took about five minutes to come out, but it was well worth it and there were some lovely fashionable tables to sit at in the mean time. Nothing to write home about, it's a hipster coffee shop in West loop. Limited seating, inflated prices - the standard. I personally didn't enjoy my drink (Some kind of whiskey barrel coffee) but that might be my fault. Let me begin with the fact that I'm a coffee snob and I love Dark Matter coffee. I truly believe that Dark Matter is one of the best coffee roasters in Chicago and their beans are top quality. This is the closest DMC location to my place so I'm forced to visit this location vs the west town one. However the service in this location is usually down right terrible and with attitude. A couple of weeks ago I went for my weekly coffee beans supply and seriously made me reconsider looking for a different place to get my beans- the cashier "Madalynn" looked like she didn't wanted to be there and if she was doing me a favor for taking my money. She even told me "we are about to close" 40 minutes before the actual closing time- I don't expect the best customer service at my regular coffee shop but when I'm paying a premium, at a minimum I expect decent service and a little less attitude. The baristas are usually pretty nice, however the cashiers always look like they hate their life- hopefully someone reads these reviews as my experience does not appear to be an isolated one. I'll give them a few more chances before I start looking for another place to get my weekly supply of coffee beans. read more

I'm a fan of Dark Matter's coffee beans and was hoping to stop by Meddle at some point to finally try it out. We happened to be in the area and were able to stop in 15 minutes before closing. We ordered a Barrel-Aged Mocha and a Chocolate City. The Barrel-Aged Mocha, ngl, blew my mind on the first sip. An array of flavors all intertwine very well and kind of explode in your mouth. The different notes really blend well creating a creamy and flavorful, although not too rich, drink. I'll definitely be trying their barrel-aged coffee. The Chocolate City is the reason I couldn't give this place 4 stars. Unlike our other drink, the Chocolate City lacked any notes. It tasted like a normal iced coffee. Very average. It may have been because we went at the end of the day and they get it from the tap, which was close to running out? I wasn't the biggest fan. Even adding milk didn't help. Besides, that our experience was great. Very cool interior and really friendly staff. I'd go back but probably just for another specialty drink. read more

We ordered a Hot Soy Latte, Iced Soy Latte, and an Old Fashioned Donut. Both of the Lattes were nice and strong. Hell fking yes! A hipsterie expensive as shit coffee shop with a bunch of different menu items that give me an option of something other than the junk at dunkin, starbucks, or god forbid 711. I love walking into a place asking for an iced dirty almond chai and have them actually know what that is. When moving to the neighborhood, my only two reservations were lack of wine bar and lack of coffee shop. Now we just need a wine bar within a block and a half and I am good to go on life. They also have a nice assortment of baked goods (incl. gluten free). Comfy couches and free wifi & they are also opened on Sunday which kicks ass for my work schedule.
