I had stopped by a few days prior to look at their menu and you know I had some questions about the menu and the girl at the counter was very helpful ! She explained what was the most popular and whatnot! Point is she made me come back and actually try the food, and Jessica made sure I did not go home disappointed. The WORST Mediterranean food I've EVER eaten. I was warned about the lousy food yet I was hungry. The hummus was TASTELESS. The Tabouli must have been left over because the parsley had faded to green grey and again was flavorless. The Spanakopita was dripping with grease. I'm pretty ambivalent about Daphne's. The food is not terrible but its not great. It's tasty and I suppose fair. When they want to charge $8.00 for a combo meal, I take a little bit of an issue. That eight bucks is MUCH better spent at In and Out burger. With value meals at Micky D's costing $7.00 I'll absolutely go with Daphne's every day of the week. The store are usually pretty big and spacious. They don't have a rabid fan base like Chipolate does but they are well trafficked. The portions err a bit on the small side for me to say that I am a fan. What I do like about Daphnea's is the creativity. To those who say 'this isn't authentic Greek' and so on I will say the store never billed itself as "Daphne's Estatorio" It bills it self as 'California Greek' Which is basically telling the audience were taking Greek traditions and putting a Cali spin on it. That is perfectly fine.The food is not the freshest however they do go the extra mile trying to put a creative spin on things. The 'Pita' burger looks really intriguing for my next visit. With such a lukewarm review, why would I be anticipating my next visit ? Because my friends fiancée gets these little cards from work that say '$5.00 hook up' (which give you $5 off any visit.) and while the portion controlled meals might be a little weak for eight bucks and some change. Once upon a time, Johnny Food-Court Seed travelled all over California planting Food-Court Seeds and they grew and grew and grew. In most of these food courts there was a pretty blue flower called Daphne's. And then "poof" the bloom was gone as many food court restaurants closed out and became empty. Including Daphne's that disappeared from any food court within 10 miles of my territory. But there are still a few of the pretty blue Daphne's around if you look for them. I had quite a time using up my coupon's this year because 2 of the Daphne's listed were out of business. And really, I had only gone because they had a great coupon in the entertainment book many years ago and they were in the food court around the corner from me. But, as luck would have it, Daphne's is a favorite of one of my angel friends. So I drove the 11th mile to get reacquainted with this Greek delight. I got the inside secret on the tastiest items on the menu from her and her hubby. I would have never tried the soup on my own, and now I can't stop recommending it. It's a lemony chicken soup and it's thick and creamy too. The hummus and pita side dishes are also delicious. Now here's the best part, you can order one of the meals and add the soup or hummus (or a few other choices) for $1.25 each and you can order more than one. This is where I get sensible. How many of you are going through a time where you have a child that only eats a handful of food? You can add a side dish instead of buying a full extra meal and know that you are buying just enough. Or you need a cup of soup in the fridge for someone coming home late from work? Not only did I show up hungry, but I had just survived a few really bad restaurant visits so my eyes were on the details. Clean as a whistle, no refrigerator AC blowing on me, and the staff was nice and friendly all the way back to the grill master. Talk about a huge change from being in chain restaurants, Daphne's was consistent like a chain but personal like a family's favorite place. It's a Greek food CHAIN, so it is what it is. They do things well, such as customer service, being clean, efficiency, and making fast food feel somewhat more sophisticated. They don't do Greek food great, but again it is what it is and it's alright. I'm part of their Pita Points program even though I don't eat there often I must have signed up a long time ago when I thought I would. But, part of signing up is entering your birth date. So, I received a nice Happy Birthday email with a coupon for a FREE PLATE DINNER. Wooo whoo! So today, I had my free Birthday lunch which was a Kabob Plate. I used to work near the one in Westwood and went there all the time. I have been to this one a few time but not for a while. I was disappointed. They have reworked their menu to make it difficult or impossible to get what I liked there. I used to order either a gyro or felafel pita plate with no rice and double salad. I had to order a gyro sandwich and for $1.99 more make it a "combo" to get a side salad. Well the gyro was small and had about 2/3 the meat they used to have. The portion of salad was less than the normal serving on the old platters, plus that also came with rice. It did come with a fountain drink that I did not really want (part of the "combo"). So it cost more and gave you less. It was a $20 bill for a couple of uninspired lunches. Not a fan of the changes they've made! There are better choices! One thing I have to mention is the crew. They were fabulous!!! While it took about 20 minutes to get our food (it was busy) the counter staff and servers were great!!! read more

So the food is pretty good but the small details bring down what could have easily been a four star review. I have ordered take out from here twice and both times the pita bread was pretty chewy. The tzatziki sauce here is really good but there is an inconsistency in how much sauce is in the cup and how many cups you get. First time I ordered 1 pita and I got two half filled cups of sauce. Second time I ordered two pita and I still only got two cups of sauce and they were only filled about 1/3. So that was disappointing. Bottom line: Daphne's is the best place in the immediate area to get healthy food to go but the concept is not executed perfectly. read more

There was a Daphne's located in Culver City that changed to Yalla Mediterranean and I like Daphne's so much more. I come from Culver City to this location all the time to enjoy Daphne's; it's always worth the trip. Hooray for free Street Pita coupon! Boo for slow service! Somehow I stumbled across a free coupon that was about to expire at home and drove over before somebody wondered what happened to it. Once I arrived and took my order I realized why I haven't been here in years. SLOW! It took about 20 minutes for my mini pita to be made. The main problem they have here is the lack of workers. It was pretty packed for lunch as I assume it is everyday. In the kitchen that you can clearly see, they have only 2 people back there then 2 people taking orders. When you throw in taking orders, delivering food to the table, cleaning up, answering phones etc, you can see where the front counter people can only do so much. After I finally got my pita I ate it in about 4 bites. It was that small. The pita simply is a feta cheese, cucumber, tomaoto and choice of meat. It was just alright. This is the second pita place in as many weeks where I can't find any olives!!! What is the deal? Aren't olives a greek staple? I don't get it. read more

So today I went in to Daphne's. Ordered my food and the lady at the cash register that took my order was not very friendly not very helpful she seemed annoyed when I asked her questions. Her customer service skills are horrible. she had no idea how to explain the questions I had for about the menu. This lady didn't even give me my receipt. I can't believe they have a tip jar there. Daphne's you should really consider maybe making her a dishwasher instead of taking people's orders. When you're in a customer service job you should be friendly you should be helpful you should learn how to explain things properly. And I wasn't the only one they had a problem with her. there was an African-American lady who was asking her questions and the lady at the cash register was not very helpful to her ether. I was a witness she was rude to the African-American lady. I told the lady to call management and write a review on yelp. And then you have the cook getting involved in customer service issues instead of minding his business and doing his job and cooking the food. He was another rude person there. Daphne's your whole staff is rude. Why do you keep employing these people if they hate their job so much and treat your customers horrible. I love the food here.....which is why I am confused as to why they keep changing the menu. I would come here a few times a week for lunch. My favorite was the tri-tip salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing, one day I notice they don't give me balsamic vinaigrette, I ask for it and the lady tells me "We don't have it anymore.". WTF? Why not? Then I notice they have it whited-out everywhere it had been on the menu above the register.......kinda weird. Today I go in and the menu is all new, I can't find the tri-tip salad, I ask if they still have it and the lady tells me "No, not anymore.". Went to this restaurant at 8:55, and was about to leave because I hate ordering when a restaurant is about to close, I feel so rude. But the workers insisted we stayed, plus another couple walked in a minute before us, so we reluctantly did. The food was even better than the one in Torrance that I usually go to, and the service was much better, despite it being almost time for them to close their restaurant and go home. The food came promptly, and they were so friendly. I definitely don't think the workers in the Torrance location would have been as pleasantly welcoming to us as the ones here at that late of an hour. My husband and I usually patron this location whenever we are craving Daphne's. We have always had a positive experience. This is the first time we've had a disappointing experience. My husband order a salmon plate and paise extra for a drink with a side. They forgot his side. Also, he said the rice tasted like dish water. I ordered a salad that comes with warm pita. They forgot my pita. We also ordered calamari ($9). Not worth the price. We ordered all our food to go, so we didn't notice until we were settled at home. YASOU! I'm Armenian, so Greek food isn't too unfamiliar to me. Pretty similar. If you're part of a specific ethnicity, you know how when you go to the restaurant it never tastes the same as it does when you cook it at home. I have to say, this place tastes pretty close to the home cooking. My usual combo is Greek salad, humus French fries and falafel. Comes with pita bread. They have a lot of yummy things on their menu, too much to name so I wont. It's also a nice spot for vegetarians. All in all, the people are nice, the prices are reasonable, and the food is good. Clean and timely. They cook the food when you order it so it hasn't been sitting there all day. And the employees are friendly. Give it a shot. read more
