We tried stopping in one night, but they didn't have tables available. So, we made reservations for another night. Danji is such a cute spot. The inside is cozy and small with 2 long communal like tables (and is not open during the pandemic. Instead, they have outdoor seating (4 tables under an tent and 2 small tables out in the open weather-permitting. The staff is amazing. They were on top of it and provided fantastic service without being intrusive. The food came out at good intervals and was well paced. The food and drinks: Soju Sangria - delicious and so easy to drink Crispy Veggie Dumplings - they give you so many (7), but they are very, very good - definitely well made Shrimp & Scallion Pancake - it's was so good and so crispy, the scallion wasn't overpowering. I would totally get this every time. Bulgogi Bibimbap - so good. came out on a cast iron pan (so you can get that crispy rice action just like the stone bowls). the flavors were spot on and just so delicious Miso Soup - it was good (comes with mushrooms) Black Sesame Ice Cream - so delicious TLDR: totally worth it. WOW - not blown away by Korean food often but this place is IT! Came here for a lovely New Year's Eve dinner, got the special sampler menu for group of 4 includes 9 courses (banchan included). Loved everything, will preface and say I'm not a seafood person but still loved the sashimi salad and cod. Tofu was so soft it was almost mochi like but softer. Pajeon was so crispy and yummy almost ordered a second one just for me! Bulgogi sliders very good but kind of heavy and very fatty cut of meat. The slider buns was so soft and buttery. I'm very hard to please when it comes to bulgogi bibimbap, but this was as authentic and fresh as it gets. Love the mushrooms they use too. This. Place. Is. Amazing!!! Everything we ate and drank was delicious. The bar is quaint and you can tell they are selective with what and how they stock it. My margarita had fresh ginger and jalapeño, just the way I like it! My husband had a really good fresh strawberry non alcoholic spritzer. He doesn't drink so a fresh mock tail without syrups is always welcomed. We had wings, tofu and the one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever had (still dreaming about the smoky rice, savory sauce and egg combo). I've now come to Danji twice, once for dinner and once for brunch. This is a review for the brunch (dinner was very nice too!). We came in having made reservations on a Saturday, but there was room for walk-ins as well. The restaurant is small and intimate with a bar in the front, a section of communal high top tables, and then a few standard tables in the dining room. I like the subtle asian flair in the decor that extended to the wooden spoon decorations and the sliding table drawers with hidden menus. The service was prompt and our waitress was attentive throughout the meal. They have a few brunch drinks available for those who wish! We focused on the food, starting by splitting the spicy kfc korean fire chicken wings. I liked that they chose meatier wings to serve, and they were certainly spicy although perhaps somewhat lacking in flavor. We then each got our own bibimbap - one kimchi pork and one spicy pork belly - dolsot style. Would definitely recommend paying the extra $3 for dolsot style which means it's cooked in a stone pot and creates the BEST crunchy rice. The bibimbap was also really excellent, with a great combination of marinated vegetables, flavorful meat, and optional gochujang spicy sauce. This was more than enough food for one person; in fact, you could consider splitting one and getting something else in addition if you're not that hungry. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience at Danji. It's a small place so best for a date or a small group - I liked that the restaurant was quiet, making it easy to talk. Came here on Sunday for dinner and got one of the outdoor tables which was actually great because I felt we had more space and it was quieter to talk! We started with some blackberry soju for the table which was delicious. For appetizers, we got the spicy chicken wings, bulgogi sliders, shrimp and scallion pancake and veggie dumplings. I particularly love the short rib, cod, bosom, shrimp and scallion pancake with chili pepper, kimchi poutine, and k.f.c. chicken wings. I've also had, and been a bit less impressed by, the bulgogi sliders, which are a little funky-tasting. I think there's a little too much going on. I also LOVE the ice cream. What a tasty Korean spot outside of Koreatown and Flushing! The format is different. There are smaller dishes so you can try more things. (I saw folks who didn't understand the assignment and ordered the same individual bibimbop for 3 people.) The menu is conducive to trying 8 dishes for the 3 of us. You may also order a tasting menu for $74 but we decided to choose our own dishes and share. The bossam was my favorite bite. This is the most tender porkbelly wrap I've ever had. I also highly encourage the shrimp and scallion pancake! It's more cake than pan in its appearance, fried perfectly and not flat but crisp and airy (different from traditional pajeon which is usually flat). This pancake was more like a tempura cake in its airy crispiness!Had to try the soy garlic chicken wings which are pretty good but I prefer the winglet parts more over drumettes and they only had drumettes. It wasn't the best Korean fried chicken I have had as it wasn't crispy like Bonchon's and was a little too saucy in my opinion. We had a bulgogi ibimbop and the bacon kimchi fried rice. Order one or the other as having both is a little redundant. Both were tasty but I think the bibimbop wins over for a rice dish if you need to choose one for the table. The fried rice was a little too wet for me. The yellowtail was lovely and I could have been very happy having another order by myself. We ordered the black bean noodle (jjiajanmyeon), an iconic Korean noodle dish adapted from the Chinese dish which is excellent if you know this dish but nothing to write home about unless you are nostalgic for it. The bulgogi sliders were delicious but the buns were a little too dry and big. I would've preferred the more familiar soft steamed bun with the bulgogi. I appreciate the effort of making the baked round bun to be different from other Asian sliders but their bun was too much starch for me. I ended up eating just the meat and if you gave me a bowl of rice with it, I would've been quite satisfied. The barley oat sochu is so easy to drink that we could have easily downed a couple more bottles which we may do next time. Today was about the food the sochu needed to be smooth and subtle which was what it was. This is definitely a great place for non-traditional Korean dishes but very mas-issneun and fun. Brrrrr! I'm freezing just thinking about how cold it was the night of January 6th. However, I quickly warm up when I think about the deliciousness that my party of two experienced at this place. As part of a birthday surprise treat, my gf took me out to grab a bite in Hell's Kitchen. After walking the incredibly frigid streets of NYC that Saturday night, we quickly went into the location to alert the hostess of our reservation. After doing so, and being informed that our table wouldn't be ready for a little bit, we decided to take a good look around the area. The place is very small. Hard to really move around, so we were basically nailed to the wall as we waited for our table. The place definitely had a 'hip' vibe to it with all the wooden furniture and mason jar light bulbs. We were seated after maybe 10 minutes at a communal table, sandwiched between two pairs of people. Once seated, we had to look around to discover that our menus are inside a small drawer in the table. We did take a liking to the way the was laid out. After getting some complimentary glasses of water, we were kindly greeted by our server. He gave us extra time to look over the menus, and answered questions we had. Very importantly, we asked how many plates he thought are appropriate to order for two people (he said six!). We ordered three different plates to share. Notably, the place was very loud. Not because of the music, but because of the people. The food came out rather quickly which was nice. Each dish was good enough to share, and packed incredible flavor . We looked around at other people's plates too, and found they enjoyed their meals just as much as we did. Overall, very nice and different experience. The service was great, as was the food. A local took us to dinner here and what a delight. It's a tiny place where all the tables are rectangular high-tops and seat 8. The menus are in a drawer at each seat....practical if you want to figure out what you are eating. Since 4 of us shared 10 small plates, it was easy to forget what we had ordered. The inside is REALLY small so not necessarily ideal for large parties but there's enough room so you're not cramped/on top of one another. Since we came for restaurant week, we got three courses. For drinks, we got the black raspberry soju from their cocktail menu. I'm not a huge fan of soju but this one made me change my mind. I started with the wild yellowtail sashimi which was really really good. The fish was super fresh and was on top of a srichaha-like sauce which added a nice kick. My friend got the shrimp and scallion pancake which we bought thought was just okay. For my entree I got the veggie bibimbap & thought it was pretty bland. I know bibimbaps are pretty much just rice bowls but even with the gochujang sauce and fix-ins, the dish could've still used some salt. My friend got the short rib which she kept raving about so it must've been good. For the last course, we got a coconut ice cream and a sesame ice cream. Considering how I am a Korean, paying $20 for bibimbap made me cringe a little inside. Although delicious, I will say... don't eat here if you are expecting an authentic Korean food. FOOD: I ordered Spicy Pork Belly Bibimbap ($17) and paid additional $3 for chul-sot because I really like how crispy the rice gets when bibimbap is served in a stone bowl. I have to say, they nailed the art of crispy rice. I have tried making this at home and I am ashamed to say that I have failed despite learning how to do it from my mom (it's not easy to get that crispy rice without burning them). Danji did a great job, I did not get any burnt rice in my bowl. Flavor of the Spicy Pork Belly was great but a bit salty. SERVICE: I didn't notice anything special. They were friendly and punctual. AMBIANCE/DECORATION: Very cute and almost minimalist decorations. However, it is a very small restaurant... I felt almost claustrophobic in there. Korean Tapas - Amazing Gem in Hell's Kitchen As a resident of Hell's Kitchen and a lover of all forms of Asian cuisine, I'm always searching for innovative, less touristy restaurants in the neighborhood to try. In my experience, Korean food - particularly those found in K-town - seems to be segmented into two flavor profiles: traditional Korean and KBbq. Naturally, I was excited to see a more up-scale fusion-style Korean tapas restaurant in my neighborhood. I've been two Danji twice, and both experiences do not disappoint (I'd compare it to Method, a Japanese inspired fusion spot also in Hell's Kitchen). The flavors are authentic without being overly experimental or excessive. The dishes have nuanced flavor profiles - you can savor each bite as you eat your way down the tasting menu, aware of how much thought was put into the details of each dish. The location/interior is small but not necessarily claustrophobic. It's great for catching up with close friend or a date at the bar / small table. I wouldn't recommend it for large groups. I'll break this review down by the most memorable individual dishes I've tried and my thoughts on them. The first time, I did the tasting menu. The second time, I opted for a la carte. Soju: I've tried a few of the soju options on the menu, and I'd definitely recommend the peach soju. It packs a palatable (and rather potent) sweetness that accompanies Korean flavors nicely. If you can't stand sweet/fruity drinks, I'd probably suggest a dryer option. Sashimi with potato flakes: The sashimi is great, but I have mixed feelings about the potato flakes. It adds a nice saltiness, but it can be almost overwhelming (i.e. sashimi with a side of potato chips) Tofu with ginger scallion dressing: This might be my FAVORITE item - great taste and texture. Bulgogi Beef Slider: Another solid choice. Not exactly the most innovative dish, but the meat is delicate, tender, and juicy. Pork belly slider is also tasty. Probably skip: Ginger scallion pancake and "kfc" chicken wings. Both items are verge on being too oily and are not as creative as other dishes on the menu. You can probably skip them. Ice Cream: There's something about the ice cream's texture and almost savory flavor profile that makes it almost addicting. It's rich and has a stretchy, elastic-like quality that bends around your spoon. I don't quite recall what the flavor was (sesame?), but it was delicious. read more

Was worried since I ended up dining solo that I wouldn't be able to partake in their tasting menu, but they kindly accommodated me and I didn't have to experience solo-diner FOMO. The place is tiny-I was eating early so it was empty but started filling up as it got towards 6:30. Would definitely make a reservation if not solo. Don't come here for authentic Korean food. The chulsot bibimbap has soggy rice that doesn't burn to a crisp like it should in the sizzling stone pot. Both orders were the exact same in terms of output. The trio of banchan was surprisingly edible and sweet without being too spicy given the thick coat of red sauce. Surprisingly, the soup was spicier than all the dishes combined even though there as no hint of red. The staff is friendly and tries to explain the dishes without much luck especially when they're not Korean. And there's hooks on the wall for jackets. Note #2: If you sit at the bar area and close to the entrance, you will get VERY little AC. I felt NO AC when I first came into the store but when I walked to the restroom (at the back) I felt a strong blast of AC there. Went to Danji with friends on Tuesday evening. Tried most of the menu and find very few reasons to complain, as the dishes were tasty and inventive and the service was great. Quality: With our group I got to try a large portion of the menu and I felt it was consistent and delicious. The highlights for me were the Fried Tofu, so tender and flavorful, the Spicy Chicken Wings, and the fantastic Bulgogi Beef Sliders. The Shrimp & Scallion Pancake was the weakest of the appetizers, but still good. Both the Sizzling Wet Kimchi Fried Rice and the Fresh Noodles In Black Bean Sauce were solid mains, but the Sizzling Bulgogi Bibimbap was the highlight. I settled on the spicy yellowtail sashimi ($19) and the spicy pork belly sliders ($16). Sashimi you get 4 pieces, spiciness mainly from sriracha on the plate. Sliders means 2, while tasty, was a bit salty and pretty small. For 2 small plates with tax and tip my bill was over $40, and I left feeling still hungry. I should've gone with the tasting menu for what I paid for 2 dishes. There were 2 tourists who came in for just beers. The salad was very refreshing to kick off the meal as it had fruits and nuts in the mix. The spicy rice cake was a special one as the rice cake was first deep fried (very crispy) before mixed with onion and sausage. The dish went really well with the greek yogurt on top. This was our second time here, apparently they've lost their 1 Michelin Star since, but it's definitely isn't because of the food! This is a tiny little restaurant near the theater district which was precovid always full of people. Now with Broadway shit down and tourism at a stand still it's a very quiet dimly lit street. Outdoor seating in a tent with lighting and heating is available. The service is top notch....but the food is the star! This is elevated Korean street food and inexpensive fare at its best. For the price it's hard to find a better meal/value ratio in the city. Great place to eat will be back to try more tapas!' read more

I came here with a lunch reservation and sat down at the table. After a few minutes, still no menu, after the water came, still no menu, then the guy pulls out this draw from under the table and "ta da," magically a menu was inside. It's just like the mahjong tables with the under the table storage box for money, quite a unique experience, never been to a korean restaurant with this under the table menu setup. The lunch menu is not big. The bibim-bap took up half the menu and the other half were appetizers. They have a lunch menu set with soup and 3 side dishes. i didn't order the set and just had the chul sot farmers market vegetable bibim-bap, sizzling hot (on a sizzling plate) with crispy rice soccarat. It came with an assortment of veggies, with jidori fried egg and gochujang spicy sauce. The spicy sauce was not that spicy compared to other restaurants but the overall dish was flavorful and not too salty. I'm a big fan of the crispy rice soccarat so order that, it's an additional $3. The service was good as they checked up on us several times. My waiter wasn't korean and i wasn't paying any particular attention to the waiters, but i didn't see any koreans. It felt kind of unusual not to see non-korean waiters because i usually see korean waiters. It is a tiny little place so reservations are suggested. It got crowded as we left. It is a decent place for a conversation because it is not as bustling as the korean places i have been to, not a bad thing but pointing out the differences. Tl;dr: nice ambiance but pricey food for what it is, not bad but not a stand out given other awesome contemporary Korean offerings in town... This was my second time here. First was not long after they opened. Food is good but not sure it's head and shoulders above some of the new crop of non Michelin starred Korean restaurants around town. The experience is cute - from menus hidden in table drawers to the decor with rows of wooden spoons. The service is ok. We had: Butternut squash jook (congee) - which was really more of a butternut squash purée/soup with a Korean twist, pieces of mochi rice cakes, pine nuts, and I think dates under the surface. This was my favorite dish from the meal. Tofu appetizer - also great, like a traditional Korean cold tofu side dish but the tofu was fried (warm), and the sauce was tasty Bo Ssam - pork belly you wrap in thin sheets or daikon. Nice twist but not impressed especially after the strong opening appetizers. Spicy cod - again not impressed Kimchi side was very standard. Now it could be that we just ordered the wrong things, but a number of these were recommended by the waitress. So I'm inclined to think it's representative of the overall quality. Was hoping for the tasty multigrain rice a lot of Korean restaurants have, but it's white rice only. No dessert menu - a little surprised. The first Michelin restaurant I've tried that didn't bother with any kind of dessert, even a piece of chocolate with the check. Overall, wasn't impressed. Ambiance is pretty but food wise, I much prefer Oiji, Barn Joo, or Goggan. read more
