I've been seeing Dr. Chen for more than five years now. I first went to his office due to proximity to my house, but now, distance is irrelevant. I first had all my upper crowns and implants replaced and years later, had all my lower teeth replaced. He is a doctor that does not rest on his laurels and is always looking to improve in various ways. I know this because I can sense it in the way he and the staff operate and also he takes the time to explain to me in detail. Unlike many of the dentists I've seen before, Dr. Chen is not only highly skilled but actually spends and allots ample time to complete every procedure and gives each patient the time of day. Had a bad experience with this place from my initial consultation. Rude and unprofessional behavior from Sandy the receptionist. Unreasonable attitude from the doctor. Very happy that I ended up finding a different doctor that gave me a completely opposite experience of what I had with this place. Prior to my consultation/exam here, I explained to Sandy my situation on the phone so the doctor would be aware ahead of time. I'm currently in orthodontics treatment and once I'm done will need crowns. She told me the price for my exam appointment would be $80, which would cover all visits/exams. I ended up being there about 45 min because the doc raised concerns that I did not expect to come up. Later Sandy claimed that because I went over 30 min, they should've charge me $300...both news to me because she never said there was a 30 min limit and she originally said $80 would cover everything but the crowns. It sounded like she made up the $300 just to add to her unwarranted defensive attitude towards me. What really bothered me is how Dr. Chen refused to speak to my orthodontist even though he was the one that had concerns about how the ortho treatment would affect the final position of my teeth that needed the crowns. My ortho was actually willing to speak with him so that she could make changes so that my teeth would be in an ideal position for him to work on. But he insisted that I needed to speak with her about what I wanted and that he wouldn't speak with her because he was afraid to tell her what to do...uh I don't speak dental language and thought it would be best to come from him in order for them to coordinate... Dr. Chen didn't seem to care about my concerns and even diminished it by saying I should just wait until my orthodontics is done and if it comes out bad, we can have the ortho fix it again...I explained this would add additional weeks/months to my Invisalign treatment... when instead he could just speak to the ortho to coordinate and do it right the first time. I told him I will be in a bridal party and won't have time to wait around and fix it again. Instead of understanding what I thought was a reasonable request, he expressed what appeared to me an unusual fear in talking to dental practitioners that he doesn't already do business with. That was a red flag. He clearly cared more about hurting the ortho's feelings than my concerns even though it's my teeth, time and money that will be affected. According to Sandy, the doctor will only speak with other doctors that he has relationships and does lunches with. I find this really strange to make it more about him than what the patient needs. Maybe even unethical. The prosthodontist I saw prior to him had communicated with my ortho to coordinate (they've never worked together before either) but unfortunately his prices were too high and out of my budget. Dr. Chen was frustrating to talk to and Sandy gave off major attitude on the phone for no reason, even after my appt when I asked for an estimate. It all felt so unprofessional. Just had a consult with another dental practitioner in Pasadena that wants to coordinate with my ortho and is considering my concerns and date goal to finish everything. This person has a much better bedside manner and very good at listening to the patient's wants and concerns...something that Dr. Chen and his staff could work on. read more

I honestly can't thank Dr. Chen and the staff here enough for their impeccable service and hospitality. I was recommended to Danimere by family as I had moved from Chicago to L.A and was looking for a new dentist in the L.A. area. I was overdue for a cleanse, so I figured I'd check it out. It was the most thorough work I've ever experienced, hands down. Dr. Chen had x-rays done, my gums checked, and a deep cleanse done all in my first visit. He made sure to explain all procedures beforehand and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I returned two other times after to get cavities filled and I was surprised by how thoughtful they were in scheduling two different sessions, one for each side, so that I wouldn't have to take on too much all at once. 6-year follow up: My 8 veneers made by Dr. Chen six years ago still look pretty much like the day they were made. No dark edges!!! Before Dr. Chen made these "new" veneers for me, I had another set made by another dentist. About a year into them, brown and black border/edges started to show. They were not only unesthetic, but concerning in that cavity was probably growing under them. I lived with them for about 5 years as I wasn't sure if a new set would end up being the same. Fast forward... met Dr. Chen and he assured me that his technique and ceramist would likely result in better long-term outcome with a new set of veneers. True to his words, the veneers are still holding up after 6 years without any dark bands along the gum line. They definitely also look a lot more feminine and youthful and less opaque than the last set which look very squarish - like my husband's! I am extremely pleased with the work that Dr. Chen had done for me - eight upper front veneers and crowns, and six lower veneers. My reason for going to Danimere Dentistry was because my original set of veneers and crowns were not only opaquey and gray, they simply weren't made correctly as my bite was off. The previous dentist attempted to grind them down, but that only made them look even worse. My orthodontist friend recommended that I seek out a prosthodontist but couldn't make any recommendations as she is located out of state. I found Danimere Dentistry after a thorough search on the internet and reading countless reviews. During my consultation with Dr. Chen he informed me that one of the issues is the material used for my old veneers and crowns were unsuitable for my case as I had some teeth with metal in them from my root canals when I was a teenager. He even mentioned that the type of bonding cement played a important role in affecting the final esthetics (really, could not have guessed that). To make a long story short, he made a new set of crowns and veneers for me and they look and feel drastically more natural. The grayness has been replaced with porcelain that is natural white, the sharp edges from the grinding have been replaced with smooth and rounded borders. The bite feels normal and even now and all this was completed in the most painless dental experience I've ever had (you have to experience it to believe it). I compared my before and after pictures and it was amazing how a set of well made teeth can instantly make one look younger, on top of the boost in confidence with one's smile. The expertise and craftsmanship is in a whole different league when compared to my prior dental experiences. Because of a bad experience at another dentist, I didn't come back to any dentist for quite awhile. So naturally when finally coming back I had a bunch of issues to handle. Dr. Chen setup and walked me through my treatment plan and every visit since my first has been excellent. Like most, I have a lot of "dental anxiety" but the doctor here makes sure to take time during the visit to make sure things going smoothly. If something is wrong, or hurting, he will take the time to make sure I am comfortable before continuing the procedure. Reception and billing have also been a breeze. Faye has taken the time to work with my insurance to get me the best rates. She checks in the day before my appointments to remind me about my visit, and follows up with me later after I leave to make sure everything is going well and answer any follow up concerns I might have. A little background, I moved out to the west coast a few years ago and was necessary to find a new dentist. I was referred to by a friend in Arcadia that highly suggested we try Danimere Dentistry. Within my first new-patient check up, I was amazed by how thorough Dr. Chen is. I had many questions especially after we looked at my x-ray to check for cavities or others and was very grateful for how patient Dr. Chen was with me and made sure that I understood my current oral health status. Before he does anything, he always informs you what he's about to do so there are no surprises at all and is always making sure the patient is comfortable. My previous check up I needed 3 fillings. To be honest, it was painless. I think might have even dozed off for a second. I appreciate how he doesn't needlessly suggest doing fillings as he acknowledges that some still have a change to be cleaned with more flossing. I haven't had any troubles with my fillings so far and they seem to fit very comfortably. His team members also contributed to the positive experience as they are all VERY friendly and sincere. Went to Dr. Chen for a cleaning. He did a great job. I always go for cleaning every 6 months. This is the only time my teeth felt clean. Kept build up on teeth away. Other dentist I notice did not do this. In fact, they try to rip me off and insist I do a deep cleaning. Dr. Chen told me it was not necessary because my gums are very healthy.
