Everyone in my family like these! They are gluten-free but even people without food allergies enjoy them. The blondies are my favorite.

Smokin' Hearth - In goes the liquid nitrogen!

    Smokin' Hearth

This review only covers their liquid nitrogen watermelon sorbet @ Sowa market…read more SO COOL. Literally and figuratively. Who would've thought you could see liquid nitrogen dessert @ a low key food truck market like Sowa? I didn't. Anything involving food + liquid nitrogen is usually a thing of upscale establishments. My friend and I were so ecstatic to see such a sight and offering for only $6. No preservatives added. Just straight up scoops from a watermelon and a couple dribbles of simple sugar syrup (water and cane sugar). Blend that. Then in goes the liquid nitrogen from a hole in the blender. We all watch with childhood excitement at the white puffs of smoke flowing out. It's a rumbling watermelon volcano in the making and great visually and tactilely for people of all ages. Refreshingly cold with the flavoring of watermelon purely intact, by far the coolest and healthiest dessert I've had :)

Stumbled upon the Sowa Market on a Sunday afternoon filled with food trucks and vendors. I already…read moreknew this was the truck to look for thanks to a review I read on Yelp. The watermelon sorbet is $6 (cash, credit card accepted). They also serve pizza there if anyone's interested. The watermelon sorbet is freshly scooped out of a half-watermelon, added sugar syrup, and liquid nitrogen. The magic happens when the guy adds in the liquid nitrogen. He's also very friendly and willing to wait and pose for pictures. The sorbet texture is amazing.. smooth with just the right amount of sweets. For those who are wondering (and people did ask at the market).. yes, it tastes exactly like watermelon.

Kennedy’s Ice Cream Bar - Sign

Kennedy's is the real deal: a Melrose gem…read more I took my two sons to Kennedy's for the first time recently, and I can already tell this is going to become a weekly tradition. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was exactly what you want from a neighborhood ice cream shop: friendly, unpretentious, and completely focused on making great ice cream. The star of my visit? The Nutella Stackable. I almost went with something safer, but I'm so glad I didn't. Layer after layer of rich, velvety Nutella ice cream, it was indulgent in the best possible way and tasted like they somehow captured the essence of Nutella and made it even better. My boys were eyeing it the entire time, which is the highest compliment I can give. Speaking of the boys, they were immediately at home here. The staff was patient and cheerful while two excited kids deliberated for what felt like forever, and the portions were generous enough that everyone left completely satisfied. No small feat with those two. Kennedy's has the feel of a place that's been done right: quality ingredients, a welcoming atmosphere, and people behind the counter who clearly take pride in what they're serving. Melrose is lucky to have it!

Definitely stop by for a creative sundae, they have so many "stackables" options on boards all…read morearound the shop and a variety of toppings and add ons for your ice cream. The prices are on the higher side for a local spot and they appear to serve Gifford's and a variety of ice cream products from different suppliers. The variety is worth the visit if you're in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way. It's a busy shop, expect a line especially on weekends. My main complaint was how long it took to order, I came in with a friend and there were 3 groups in front of us but we waited 25 minutes. I understand it was busy but they seemed short staffed having to juggle the walk up window and the line inside the shop.
