Have been ordering the Italian rum cake from here for over 30 years. We all love the rum cake but during this most recent cake order, I was disappointed. The cake was much higher than what it is now. I believe that it was 2 eight inch cakes combined with layers of cream in between the different layers. Now it's only 1eight inches cake with only 2 layers of cream and an overwhelming amount of whip cream. The whip cream Is almost 50% of the cake hight. For the cost, I need more cake and less whip cream. Not sure that I will order again. read more

I ordered a birthday cake with strawberries in the middle. It was awful. The strawberries were bits and pieces. Who chops up a whole strawberry into tiny bits and pieces you can hardly see. I had to go searching for strawberries. Not 1 whole strawberry. They cover it up with loads of whipped cream. I'll never order for m them again. This is the second birthday cake they ruined !!! Went early on a Tuesday morning and boy oh boy did it smell good. Lots of fresh pastries and bread. I was the only one in there and wasn't very indecisive on what to get. I ended up with some Finnegan's, 1lb of butter cookies & a lobster tail. All verryyyy good and very delicious. Goodies for work friends to share. They have a parking lot with plenty of spots. I regret not getting a buffalo chicken calzone, fresh pasta and bread. The woman was patient with me and answered all my questions. 100% recommend peeps come here for some treats. read more

Came here during the week. In- laws are in town and wanted to suprise them with cannolis. Wanted to try something different from Mikes and Modern. I called the shop asking if they had cannolis, the women said yes than hung up on me. Was very off put by the phone customer service. I still came and got a few different cannolis and tiramisu. The young lady working was very sweet and I got some AMAZING desserts. My in laws were impressed and so was I. I live out of state but am born and raised in Stoneham. I emailed them with a question regarding shipping, no response. I called to ask a question and was spoke to like I was a child, the woman was rude and refused to be helpful. Some time later, (weeks), I called again and the very familiar voice answered the phone, this time I asked to speak with a manager. I was told no one was available, she asked what it was in regards to, I explained that she was unwilling to help me the last time I called. This woman basically told me I would not be able to speak with anyone. I am extremely disappointed as I was hoping to surprise my elderly father (who also no longer lives in Stoneham) with his favorite pastry (only made at this bakery). Poor customer service. read more

We were looking for a last minute cake for my mother's birthday so after a bakery near me search we learned this was on our route to pick up Indian food at Rang's so definitely had to stop. There was a line but it went pretty fast. I could see why it was so popular when I got inside. Tons of cakes and pastries and cookies - oh my! My mother can't eat chocolate anymore due to her cancer and I was so happy to see they had a huge assortment of interesting vanilla cakes. We went with the strawberry shortcake and it was beautifully decorated. The cake was pretty amazing - the taste was so smooth and delicious. Lovely and you could tell a lot of love and care went into the creation. It was so huge we still have a few slices left and it's kept well (I should know as I had it for breakfast today because why not!). Usually a good spot. Cookies are good and other Italian pastries as well. Not a big fan of all prices coming off the menus tho, has to be because they were all jacked up really high and most customers just order instead of asking....got 2.5 lbs of Italian cookies and a Cinnamon bun and it was like $33....actually insane. $10 a pound for the cookies, gotta find a new spot to try out read more

We ordered a rum cake for my daughter's birthday today September 18th it was absolutely beautiful but when we cut into it it pretty much was a vanilla cake with some strawberries in the middle and whipped cream it was definitely not a run cake I was really really disappointed because for the price we paid for this cake it wasn't worth it and my daughter was disappointed because that's really the only kind of cake she'll eat so we're going to just stick with the place that we normally get the cake and we never got to go back here. We also got canoli b I t instead of ricotta, it was some weird cool whip stuff. In all my 55 years, I have never had a fake canola. I'm sticking to the bakery that I M used to, where they know how to make Italian cakes and pastry. I ordered a chocolate cake for my son's 5th birthday...imagine the kids disappointment to cut into it at the party to find Vanilla! Goes without saying the birthday boy did not have cake...Thanks for the surprise Colarusso's and ZERO accountability when I emailed to let you know! I didn't want a refund...just accountability that my order was not completed as placed. Also, sent in a vertical photo to be printed on cake and the photo was printed horizontally instead... which took away from the aesthetic I was going for. Ordered "black and white" moon cookies and the cookies were more "light brown and white"cookies as if they were afraid to use more chocolate? "Bakery" but without many options for custom cake design(s) and flavor. Thought I'd order from here instead of stop and shop since they're an actual "bakery". Was stuck ordering from here as a last resort and I learned my lesson to not return. Whoever owns this place now kept the Collaruso name to keep up with brand loyalty so it's unfortunate that whoever is the "baker" now is just bringing down the old Collaruso's. read more

My Daughter ordered my wife's favorite birthday cake, Italian Rum Cake with frosting, not whipped cream at Colarussos. She picked up the cake and brought it home, about a 20 minute drive. When we opened the box, there were no slivered almonds on the outside. My wife loves the nuts. My daughter called the bakery and was told that they only put the nuts on if requested. This is not a cheap cake. They should have asked if she wanted the nuts. I personally have never seen one without them. Well, they told her to bring the cake back. She drove back the 20 minutes and they handed her a small container of nuts, and said you'll have to put them on yourself. That'll be $2.00 please. They have NO IDEA what CUSTOMER SERVICE is. My daughter said nothing, paid the $2.00 and left. The cake was not near the top quality of the many Italian Birthday cakes I've had over the years. We were the only 2 people in there at 3pm ish and she acted like we were disrupting, ahem, her beauty sleep. Removal of star #1. I'm not from this area, I grew up in Gloucester. Lots of Italians there that know how to bake and cook! I had been craving rainbow cookies (petit fours) and I was told they have them. Got a half pound and also a half pound of almond macaroons w/the cherry. The rainbow cookies were beyond stale! Should have been fed to the birds stale! Just a crumbly mess. I know for a fact they are supposed to be moist! Knock off another star. In closing, I will give the macaroons a 2 thumbs up. They were delightful! The cakes, pastries and ricotta pie looked amazing too. I will not rule them out and will try them another time. Hopefully I'll get a pleasant counter person on my next visit. read more

I used to go here weekly when I attended Susan Woods dancer center. My friend and I would get a treat after dance class! I always liked it but haven't been in for a while. It was my moms birthday yesterday so I went in to get a cake. I saw this extremely chocolatey looking cake; something my mom would love so I bought it! They wrote on it for me and the cake was only about $21. I also picked up candles for $1 there. I was so tempted to get bread and other pastries!! We had it for breakfast this morning.. I came here before a party to pick up a variety of desserts and was disappointed. Nothing really stood out as amazing or worth trying again.

I'm very disappointed with this bakery. I asked specifically for mini Italian pastries & even told the older woman that someone I knew thought she was getting the same last year & they ended up not being Italian pastries they were American. So she told me they don't do American pastries just Italian and she was kind of rude about it too. So when I picked my order up I asked to look at it. Sure enough inside were 4 eclairs, 4 carrot cake, 4 cream puffs & 4 of some kind of maybe cheesecake. I told the young girl that I certainly didn't consider carrot cake, eclairs & cream puffs & whatever Italian pastry! I then had to buy mini cannolis & a couple lobster tails to make up for it so my hosts wouldn't be disappointed. I probably should have refused the order but I didn't. I go here all the time and this was my first time being so disappointed & being treated so rudely & I might add lied to! I always spend quite a bit there but I'll be going to Farmland from now on! read more

Literally the WORST customer service ever! I would not recommend this bakery. The manager is rude, unprofessional and thinks hanging up on costumers is a standard practice for her. Drove to the bakery to speak with the owner but he apparently only works overnights and cannot be contacted. I left my name and number and said I was available up until 10pm but never received a call back. This use to be a fantastic bakery but not anymore. Picked up a ricotta pie and some cookies the other night, and the pie was not edible. The ricotta fell apart like sand. I messaged the bakery to let them know and they did not have the courtesy to respond or apologize. I didn't ask for a refund, as I threw out the pie and wouldn't be able to prove it to them. But they had a few pies left in their display case they could have confirmed my findings. Will not be back to this bakery... there are so many better options a city or two away. read more

I don't know how this bakery has anything less than 5 stars, I just tried it for the first time and I am not exaggerating when I say I am now a life long customer. The strawberry shortcake at this place is the closest thing to religion I have ever tasted, I had a single bite and knew it was the single greatest cake I had ever tasted. I owe my current work my eternal gratitude for getting this cake for our holiday party because I am fairly certain I just found my future wedding cake (spouse to be located), but truly this is hands down the most light, fluffy, flavorful, and magnificent dessert I have ever laid my tastebuds on. I brought leftovers home to my father and even he, whose usual birthday cake is homemade chocolate cake with buttercream frosting, has decided this will now be his birthday cake for the rest of his years. Why should cakes, candy, pies and bacon make us unhealthy? I HAVE to go by this place all the time. I have a warehouse right next door. Every time I get out of my car the smell knocks me on my ass. Pecan Pies, Cannoli's, Lobster Claws, Tiramisu....... I HAVE to go in. The Almond Biscotti are the best I've ever had. I wish I could stash pies all over my house and nibble on them whenever I happen to be in a certain room. Boston Cream would be the den. Pecan could be the computer room. a big bowl of italian cookies in the bathroom. But if I did this I would be fat as a platypus and people would laugh at me. Maybe it's worth it. Maybe as long as I keep my heart and mind healthy I could get by with a big fat ass........................Maybe not. But it's worth considering. That's how good this Italian bakery is. Finally, I don't have to go to North End to buy my Italian desserts! Their prices are extremely reasonable. So far I have only tried their cookies. I bought an assortment of them so I am slowly eating my way through all their different flavors. They taste so fresh and so good! They aren't very sweet, which means I can eat a lot at one sitting without upsetting my stomach. I will definitely be coming back and trying their other desserts. My family and I have been using this bakery for over 25 years. I called on 12/20/21 to see if we could pickup the items for disassembled cannolis so that I could fill them in Christmas Day so that they wouldn't be soggy by purchasing them on Christmas Eve. Shame on me for not getting the two names that I spoke to. The woman told me she didn't think that they were doing it for Christmas Eve but put me on hold to check with "him". She comes back on the phone and says "he said that we aren't doing that for Christmas Eve but that You can come in on 12/23/21 and get the stuff". So 12/23/21 arrives and a family member of mine goes, waits in line only to be told that they aren't doing that this year. I called and spoke to the "manager/owner" another woman who said we just can't do that sorry you were told that, we are short staffed and busy. As a business they claim they can't do what two individuals said they could do and just turned away money. I don't understand that. You are a hurting business with less staff but someone just waited in person to purchase from you and you turned them away after two of your employees said it was something to be done. Now of course we have no desserts for Christmas Day. Absolutely disgusted with their customer service and will never be returning. read more
