The owner here is ridiculously rude!!! I asked if he could bring me a selection of hot sauces and he got upset with me. And then a nice couple walked in and asked him if he could move his car so they could jumpstart their truck and he said "NO." That he "was working!" Due to covid 19, there are no tables in the restaurant. I was waiting outside for a table. I waited for at least 15 minutes outside, but the boss gave the table to another family. After we went by and they were closed, we realized there were two other Vietnamese restaurants in Bend, so we checked out the other two and circled back to this one a couple of days later. Stopped in on a serious dinner rush! Told the staff, and they went out of the way to speed our order. Had the standards I enjoy elsewhere: beef pho, curry chicken, and the pork/roll vermicelli salad. How did it stack up? The pho was EXCELLENT! All the usual stuff, but the broth was a revelation. A delicate mix of spices game it a freshness and unexpected "pop!" My picky daughter loved it. The curried chicken was also a fresh take on an old favorite. The daughter that chose it has had it in many places......none ever being remarkable, compared to the original, at home. But this was also a delicious mix of either novel or fresh spices......it was delicious. Finally: the vermicelli.......the sauce was the same, amazing, fresh interpretation on my old fav. The pork was SPECTACULAR! Grilled to perfection, thin slices of tastiness. The roll is sometimes neglected in this dish.....not so, here. I'd have eaten it solo.......crispy and delightful. The veggies were better than the winter season would generally supply.......and, here again, there were little crunchy bits of what appeared to be roasted garlic cloves! They were awesome! Never seen those included. Made the dish! I will also often gauge my take on Vietnamese places by the chili sauces offered.......sure, there's the usual "kickin' chicken" red.......but they also had a smoky chili-oil based version that was different from any I have had. My wife and I are both Vietnamese and we have travelled all the way from Glaciers NP to Bend on the way to Portland, OR. We stopped by this restaurant because we have not had a good bowl of Pho for maybe 3 months. Furthermore, we just wanted to try out this place, since there were 166 Yelp reviews that gave this place an average of 4-1/2 stars out of 5. Unfortunately, this place is catered to American taste and not authentic Vietnamese taste. As a result, the soup was very plain and there were no herbal and fish flavors that we can detect. The bottom line is that it tastes slightly like plain water. The service is very decent. It's just that the Pho is not as good. Rate this place 2 stars. read more

This place was a big disappointment. I usually go to Pho and will recommend them only for quality Vietnamese food in Bend. This food was bad and expensive. The avocado smoothie was luke warm and earnestly tastes like guacamole and milk. The wings (a6) were dry, their only actual sauce/flavor was a mayonnaise chili sauce. The sandwich was mostly cilantro. The chicken soup which was hardly impressive, concludes the order which we got to go. The smoothie also cost us $4 and the to go cup was hardly 3/4 full. read more

This place is so dang good. I was only passing through this town and figured I should have pho for breakfast at 9 am so I went. The pho was the honestly the best I have ever had, and never had I expected to have such good pho in a random small town in Oregon. I don't know how authentic it is but it sure tastes better than the watered down pho I've always had in Seattle. The pho was also packed with so many ingredients and that definitely makes the price worthy (it's not that expensive in the first place). Service might be lacking just a lil bit but the pho made up for it so I'm not complaining. I would definitely go back again if I find myself in Bend in the future. read more

Worst service I have ever had. There was 2 people in the whole restaurant when we arrived. We had a party of 7 and all ordered pho, it should only take about 10 to 15 min to get our pho. But then a rush came in and ordered pho as well and they all got there pho first. We waited a hour and a half and never received our pho. We finally got fed up when a couple came in and sat down and got there pho 5 min later. We packed our things and said cancel our order. When the owner came to our table and said you have been here 30 min. And we are getting our small orders but we where there first. Then he proceed to say we need to pay for the whole bill and said he is not mc Donald's. Well mc Donald's goes by who is in line not by how big the order is. I will never go back to this pho spot. Worst service worst customer service. The owner was rude. I advise you do not go here unless your schedule is clear and you can wait 3 hours for pho. Soo good! Ordered out because it was crowded during lunch hour but wow was the food yummy. I got the pho with pork and my boyfriend had the chicken teriyaki. The broth was rich and flavorful. We always love popping into Dang's for their Grilled Lemongrass Tofu Bahn-Mi; big sandwich, big flavors, great price! We usually asked for extra pickled veggies cuz I think it could use a little more. We sometimes get a Veggie Pho too, but when we came in recently, we didn't see it on the menu??? But instead, a veggie noodle soup (P10) which isn't the same. We ordered (new server btw), and made sure to specify the "veggie pho", "not the other veggie soup" on the on the menu. Sadly the soup we got wasn't pho. Don't get me wrong, the soup was fine, but when you're craving pho; that broth, the toppings, it's a bummer when that's not what you get. I really really hope they didn't discontinue making it cuz we prefer Dang's over their competitor, but will have to make the switch if the veg. pho is no longer available :/ read more

I ordered the vermicelli and egg roll and pork noodle dish otherwise known as V3 on the menu. After eating this dish for well over 25 years All Over America including Hawaii this had all what you would expect as far as ingredients go. The pork was not cut with the grain was a little chewy but still good. This wasn't the best version I ever had but was certainly not the worst and overall good quality. I would recommend this dish to anyone who enjoys Vietnamese noodle bowls. If I was to improve on the dish I would cut the pork thinner with the grain and burn it slightly. After leaving Seattle at the crack of dawn and finding only fast food options along the way, I was determined to find something more interesting for lunch. Out of curiosity, I looked up Vietnamese food and found this place and better yet, it was located right off of the highway. The owner happily greeted us and took our order. He's originally from SF and makes a 48 hour trip back down once a month to buy supplies for the restaurant. This place was good and clean. The banh xeo is one of the better ones I've had in the states after having the real deal in Nha Trang. I also ordered some sandwiches to go which made an excellent road snack. Overall opinion - Dangs' Needs more servers. We went for a dinner at Dangs after work mid week. We were surprised by just how popular this little Vietnamese restaurant is. This was our first time. It seemed like the majority of patrons were regulars. They were greeted by name by the owner. The restaurant quickly filled up. Dangs also has a booming take out business. At any time while we were their there was 2-5 orders waiting to be picked up. We ordered an appetizer of wonton dumplings which came quickly and were good. Despite the restaurant being busy our orders came promptly. Although okay -- our experience wasn't great. Our first complaint was that CNN was playing loudly on two TVs show-casing political stories that interrupted our conversation. Our meals featuring chicken and pork were dry over cooked and the soup was luke warm not hot. The presentation was nice but the taste wasn't great. The exception was the shrimp which were cooked great and very tasty. It seemed that there were not enough servers. We couldn't get our drinks refilled. We tried to flag down someone to get boxes and our ticket which took a long while. Tables were empty and uncleared while new customers came in and waited for a clean table. I wanted a quick bite to go so I tried the lemongrass chicken bahn mi sandwich. Only 5 minutes later it was ready. I liked how it's wrapped in a sheet of clean white paper and secured with a rubber band. Opened it up. Looks and smells good! Lots of cilantro grated carrot, cucumber. Unfortunately, the first bite was disappointing. The bread was soft, not crispy like a fresh French roll should be. And the meat texture was like it has been reheated in the microwave. Also the veg didn't have enough pickled flavor and the long cilantro stems were difficult to bite off. So maybe I'm a bahn mi snob? This didn't impress me, but it was only $5. Pros: clean nice decor. Possibly one of the few if not the only Vietnamese Pho noodle restaurant in Bend, Oregon. Cons: For a noodle house, food took a long time to come out. Prices are expensive for the small portions they give you. This is an mid range average pho noodle house. It is quite possible that the only reason this establishment is doing well is the the fact that it is possibly the only Vietnamese pho restaurant in the area with no other competition. Having had Vietnamese noodle soup in Little Saigon in city of Westminster, CA and throughout Los Angeles, I can say for sure that I have experienced a broad range of Pho noodle houses. The noodle broth is average and the meat is mid average quality. Anyone who has had pho noodle elsewhere will for sure agree. While the food is average here, it does do a good job of exposing Vietnamese Pho noodles and makes it available to the public who probably is trying out pho noodles for the first time. Very surprised to find such a tasty spot in Bend. For a long time my husband and I thought our half way point (Bend) lunch stop between visits across the state was limited to fast food. Fortunately, rather than going to the fast food joint that shares the general lot with Dang's, we stopped here instead. Glad we did! Servers were polite and quick and the food was much better than we could have hoped for. My pho was very flavorful, though next time I will only order the brisket and not the meatballs (personal preference is all, they were both tasty). My husband enjoyed his stir fried something (can't remember exactly what it was) and had no complaints. We'd both come back, although with our recent move Bend is no longer on the way to anything we'll be likely to visit again soon. read more

As former residents of the San Francisco Peninsula, we've had our share of pho, where restaurants specializing in this Vietnamese soup are abundant. I've had ok, good and great bowls of pho over the 20 years I've been eating it, and Dang's ranks with the very best of the best. I had the pho tai (with thin sliced top sirloin strips) and my wife had the pho chin (brisket slices). What sets this particular variety apart is the delicacy and quality of the beef broth. There's a slight extra cinnamon, and a smaller amount of the charred white onion strips, that sometimes can overpower a pho broth. But everything's perfectly balanced, light, with the thinnest pho banh noodles complimenting the broth. I make this soup it home; it's complicated, time-consuming, and any one of the spices or ingredients used, as well as any mis-step in the technique, can result in a less than perfect broth. This one was perfect. We don't have a tremendous selection of Vietnamese restaurants here, but this is certainly the best by far. The service was quick and efficient, the restaurant (and what I could see of the kitchen) were immaculate, and the prices were a dollar less than their competitors up the street (for a much better product).
