    Thick and chewy pizza dough

If you're someone who likes a chewy soft pizza, this may be the place for you. I personally prefer thin and crispy pizzas so I found this too dough-y for me. The toppings and flavours were really mild and could use more sauce and cheese too. And sucks you can only do half/half with cheese pizza! Note it's cash only (no debit even).

This place has been around for years but hadn't got a chance to try it out until recently. Long standing family business on Danforth east of Greektown. Food - (3.75/5) - had the margherita and it was not bad. Crust is hybrid Napoli style so eat it with a fork probably over folding. Just right amount of burn on bottom. Good consistency and cheese was plentiful. Felt the sauce was a bit milder than I prefer. Service- (4.25/5) - friendly and attentive and didn't take long to make it. Atmosphere- (3.75/5) - not much too it and not really anywhere to sit to eat except some raised counters and stools on side. Overall- (3.75/5) - it was a decent place overall and probably one of the best options in the area. Ranks below my tier 1 favourites closer to the core.

I was expecting "magic" but instead got "pretty good". Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to like with Danforth Pizza House: Their pizzas are a good size (though a bit pricey). The crust is chewy, the amount of toppings are fine, and the best part is the cheese which congeals into a blob of ooey gooey goodness. Also, the people there are really nice and friendly, which adds to the experience. But it's just a bit overhyped. Not the best pizza I've had and not the best in the city. I wish I hadn't gotten so excited by how amazed everyone was about this place, and I think I would've liked it more. Maybe then, pretty good would've been good enough.

Did I have too much high expectation? Pizza was great but not the best pizza I have had in Totonto. I think of similar style pizza places such as Superpoint or North of Brooklyn and I feel that their pizzas are better. Ordered over the phone and paid in cash( cash only) when we picked up. Service was very friendly.

Good pizza I'm spoiled in the WEST END (can't name competitors...) $16 for 12", bit pricey NO CARDS...no debit, no CC. What is it 1997!? They just so happen to have an ATM; another $2. If u are going to handcuff customers with no cards; don't charge for your bank machine.

    Danforth Pizza House 2013

EXCELLENT!!! Best Pizza I have ever had in my entire life. I'm Italian from California. In 2013, I came to Danforth Pizza House almost every day while I was visiting Canada. Angelo was making pizza, working by himself. You can tell he took pride in making the perfect pizzas. I remember the place was not very desirable but it didn't matter because I knew I was there to get the very best pizza that Angelo delivered every time. I have not been back in 11 years, but my experience stuck with me that I still share with family and friends the most Amazing pizza in the world is Danforth Pizza House. I sure miss it! And Angelo too!

What a find! This place has been around for ages, but is newly renovated with cool light fixtures and bench seating and more. We got a small pizza, and between two people we got 4 slices each! The pizzas are made fresh, and so the wait times can be a bit long. Don't come hangry, haha. But this place is a true gem. The pizza isn't heavy at all, and the ingredients are top notch. Really like the tomato sauce they use! And lastly, the place gets a ton of regular customers, so you know it's good.

The last time I ate here was in 2012. It was a one-man operation, where Angelo did all the prep by himself. Sadly, Angelo passed away in 2014. The business was passed on to friends and family. When Angelo ran the place, there was no website. There was only one preset pizza, The House Special. There were no exotic toppings like chicken or sundried tomatoes. Angelo's pizzas were unlike any other pizza in Toronto. Using a special oven, the underside of the pizza was charred just to the point before burned. This imparted a smokey taste similar to a wok's "wok hei" that couldn't be duplicated at home or anywhere else. The current Danforth Pizza house doesn't have that magic. Pizza prep is a 3-person operation. The best part about DPH is that it is very generous with the cheese. Regular cheese is almost like extra cheese anywhere else, and the cheese they use is cubed instead of shredded. Unfortunately, they are very skimpy with all other ingredients. I ordered a pizza with double mushrooms, and there was a very meager amount of mushrooms. A large pizza with 4 toppings (chicken, 2x mushroom, sundried tomato) came out to $33.50 tax in, which is about 50% more than a chain pizza. For that price, I expected to experience the smokey goodness once more. But unfortunately, it was not to be. There's no more char. DPH has shifted to thin crust pizza, and with below average amounts of toppings while charging a premium over competitors, DPH's pizza was a disappointment. It's obvious that DPH is being carried by Angelo's reputation. However, the current DPH pizzas are nothing like what Angelo used to make. It's overrated because there are people who would rather eat inferior pizza from a family-run business than order a better pizza from a chain for less money. As seen from my photo, the pizza doesn't look very appetizing, either. Skip this unless you really, really, love the concept of giving your money to a family-run business.

Was initially going to the Dominos across the street but thought I'd pop in here instead. It's a cute little pizza joint with veryyyy friendly staff! As soon as I came in I was greeted, offered a menu and was told to put my bags down and relax . I really appreciate those small gestures, especially as a first time customer. There's limited seating so I decided to do takeout instead. I went with the Margherita pizza which took around 15 mins as every pizza is freshly prepared. Still was nice and warm by the time I got home and I'll just say j think I found my new go-to pizza spot! My pizza was super tasty, filling and was super ven baked to perfection. I even had enough to take to work the next day so I'm definitely pleased with the portion size of the pizza. Even my dog tried to sneak a slice way too many times and stood on guard in case anything fell, lol. As for the restaurant itself, everything was clean and neat. It's an "open kitchen concept" so you get to see all the fresh pizza toppings nicely displayed as you walk in as well as then preparing your order. They accept cash only but there is an ATM onsite. I will definitely be back and am looking forward to trying their different pizzas varieties.

The pizza was amazing. Thin chewy dough and loads of cheese. A bit pricy and cash only though which is a bit annoying.

This pizza is perfection. The crust is thin, crispy, the sauce is tangy and cheese is so fresh. Great customer service as well.

Angry Bee pizza. We added our own arugula at home.

Ordered a large Angry Bee. There was lots of promise with all of the great sounding ingredients mentioned in the menu, however, we were let down. There was an overpowering spice that dominated the fennel sausage and pretty much all the other ingredients. Our spice tolerance is very high but unfortunately the chilli on this pizza coated our mouths. The texture of the pizza was great and there were lots of toppings. I'll give it another try but won't order this type again.

It has a very homey, old-school Italian American restaurant ambience - the opposite of the stylish, hipster or touristy restaurant vibe. Apparently this restaurants gets a lot of regulars, and I could see why. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you're transported back to the 1960s with the red-and-white checkered tablecloths, red chairs, old-style wax candles, brick walls, and a large black-and-white photo of an Italian family on the wall (perhaps the founder or owner's?). I could see this place being a movie set for films that need an old, classic Italian American restaurant as a setting. In addition to the décor, I love the 1960s music being played in the background. Size-wise, the inside of the restaurant isn't that big so it feels very cozy. It can get very busy and crowded after 5 pm, as most people seem to come here for dinner. We came during lunch hour and we were the only patrons there. The southern Italian touches are very apparent in most of their dishes - with heavy reliance on olive oil, tomato-based sauces (especially in the fish and seafood dishes), fresh seafood, herbs, peppers, and vegetables such as eggplant. This is in contrast to northern Italian cuisine that is characterized by rich, creamy dishes using butter, lard, and cheeses, and puts more emphasis on rice, polenta, and meat-heavy dishes (where as seafood is more prevalent in the south). Dishes that we tried: 1) Baccala (Pan-Seared Black Cod) - This was the BEST and my favourite dish here. The black cod had a crispy exterior and flaky interior, and came with roasted mini potatoes and mixed vegetables (zucchini, red bell pepper, Brussels sprouts, eggplant) roasted with garlic -- such a well-rounded and wholesome dish. The roasted mini potatoes were so flavourful, and the vegetables had a nice char. I asked for the puttanesca sauce on the side, as the fish was already flavourful on its own without the sauce. But the sauce was better than I expected - it contained actual whole chunks of cherry tomatoes and olives. 2) Steamed Mixed Fish & Seafood in Tomato Sauce - This dish wasn't on the website menu, but it was on the printed menu in the restaurant. It reminded me of cioppino (Italian-American mixed seafood stew with tomato sauce, herbs, and spices). It came presented as wrapped inside aluminum tin foil, which the server then opened in front of us on the table with steam coming out. The fish was salmon, and seafood consisted of mussels and shrimps. This dish was just alright. For almost $50, there wasn't much seafood. 3) Pizza Funghi - I liked the very thin and crispy crust, and the sliced roasted mushrooms as toppings, but I wasn't a fan of the "truffled honey" they added on top of the pizza. I didn't taste any truffle, and the honey made it very sweet. Not a fan of sweet pizza. 4) SIDES: Rapini, Brussels Sprouts, Mushrooms - They got bonus points for being able to customize the sides. They didn't have asparagus that day, so they substituted it for steamed Brussels sprouts with garlic instead - which was heavenly. The Brussels sprouts weren't overcooked at all, and they were generous with the garlic (anything with extra garlic gets extra thumbs up from me). The rapini came out chopped with a side of lemon wedge. Mushrooms weren't on the menu as a side, but we asked and they were able to make a simple side of just mushrooms. Overall the vegetables got 9/10. The chef was very friendly as he came out and talked to us. The server was extremely attentive. Great service overall.

They have a great stock of wines and an impressive drink list that we don't get to enjoy as we can't handle drinks these days. We do enjoy the food and the friendly service immensely tho. Lots of options for shareable apps; excellent options on pizzas and pastas; and I am always impressed with their mains (as someone that has to limit carbs, options can be limited at some Italian restos). They are also understanding of reasonable diet requests. They have gluten-free options as well. It is more of a "quiet" restaurant in terms of the clientele chatter, at least for the times I was there, so I can hear the music they play ("oldies"!!!!)
