Good thing we could be seated immediately at the bar area, which also has tables and chairs and has the full menu and full service. The inside decor is tiki themed which is fun. Although they were busy and the bar was packed, our server was very attentive and friendly. I'm glad we stayed to eat at the bar because food and drinks were delicious and service was great. Food: - Side: famous garlic bread - it was a lot bigger than we expected! It's a full thick loaf and could have been shared with 4-5 people. The topping is unique and tasty. - Appetizer (dinner special): mussels in garlic wine sauce. The sauce was so delicious that we dipped our garlic bread in it. Definitely recommend. It was a great starter that didn't make us overly full. - Entree (dinner special): I had the sea bass with a mushroom cream sauce. This was the only dish that wasn't that great. The fish was dry and hard and the sauce was okay. I chose the side of snap peas and that was delicious! - Entree: my husband had the 16 oz ribeye steak. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. He chose spinach as a side and it was so good. Drinks: - Macademia nut chi chi - so delicious! The macademia nut liqueur was tasty and fragrant. Loved this tropical drink and would get it again for sure. - my husband got a Diet Coke and it was watery the first time. I think their soda machine wasn't working well. I have been going to Damon's for years now, but I think they have lost their touch. I went there with my girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. The ambiance is great--I have no complaints about that--but the most important part is the food. The steak and salmon were overcooked, so we did not enjoy them. We also ordered edamame, and they served us pale green beans. We tasted them just to make sure it wasn't only the appearance, but they were sour. Why would they even attempt to serve this? Damon is one of my families favorite restaurants that we've been going to for decades. The food is absolutely delicious especially if you come on weekends and can get the prime rib. Service is super friendly and makes the house salad table side. The ambience is really fun and they have a large fish tank which my baby nephew is always obsessed with drinks are good and everything is well priced for the portion sizes. Food was good. Especially the steak. The salad has been the same for over 50 years. The bread could use more cheese. Love the hostesses and moat waiters are nice. It can be a bit loud. The hardest part is the sewer system i could smell as we walked in the door. It is apparently a problem for the whole block. The city or all the businesses need to change out the main line. I bet it hasnt been changed since they switched to this location when I was a child. I am 66.. but not a good odor for a fancy restaurant nor Porto's next door. I asked for an empty booth in the corner and was told that it's not busy tonight so ok but normally that they wouldn't be able to do that. It just rubbbed me wrong. The appetizers were bad we ordered the coconut shrimp and garlic bread. The garlic bread was awful. The coconut shrimp was just not my thing. I ordered the mahi it was delicious. I don't know which steak I ate. but when I was pregnant I wanted steak where I could cook it all the way without it being so dry. They did it perfectly. This place is great if you have people who can't eat steak and prefer fish. Sometimes steak houses, their fish is not that great because they're just know for steaks. At Damon's it's not like that. Hawaii is well known for amazing, delicious barbecue and that just wasn't what we found at Damon's. For starters, we didn't realize the garlic bread was a charge. Our waitress asked if we wanted bread or garlic bread. Of course, we should've asked, but as bread is complimentary at most restaurants it didn't even cross my mind! At most, I would've paid $3 for the bread. $10 is astronomical. The bbq combo platter was okay, though the bbq sauce dumped on top tasted cheap and very sweet. I would've preferred to add my own rather than having a pre fixed amount. The coulotte steak was tough and stringy and well past the medium rare I ordered. Three stars for the ribeye. The salad was zero stars. It was a pile of chopped brown lettuce that was way past its expiry date. On top of that was a huge pile of canned beets. The plate was so small it was impossible to keep the salad on, if in fact you would eat it. We chose not to. It's usually tossed at the table with a orangish French dressing. It was drowning in it from what I could see. The server brought us replacement salad that was the same with a little newer lettuce on the top only. No thank you. For $63.00 per meal, you could do so much better! The steak was pretty tasty with garlic butter but it mine was too rare, not medium rare and my husband's was medium rare, not medium. The twice baked potato had no cheese on top and a little dry. The place was rather dingy and desperately needing a remodel. My husband and I came here for our annual Christmas Eve dinner date tradition. We both love historic places and tiki themes, so I was excited to try Damon's despite hearing that it was dated and not at all trendy. It's been around since 1937! When we walked in, it looked like Santa Claus and all of his reindeer threw up all over the restaurant.... totally decked out in all of the lights and cheesiest holiday decor just like I hoped for! The restaurant had lost our reservation and had been having a similar issue with other diners, but still sat us without any problem. We shared calamari and garlic bread, my husband ordered a steak with a twice-baked potato, and I ordered the mahi mahi with creamed corn. My fish was a little dry and overcooked, but the steak was fantastic.... why do I always order non-steak items at a steakhouse and regret it? He definitely ordered better than I did, and I look forward to coming back for a steak of my own. Specialty drinks are the chi chi and the mai tai (which tasted almost identical and seemed to be the same drink but orange juice vs pineapple). They were the kind of drinks that didn't taste alcoholic but would probably sneak up on you. They also have a decent wine and beer list... not too many options, but some well-known labels and very reasonable prices. A server tossed our side salads next to our table, and it ended up being a delightful salad with beets and a tangy dressing. When we were boxing up our leftovers to go, he came back and said that he noticed that we enjoyed our salads and asked if we would like some to go, for free. He explained that he really liked the way the salads turned out tonight and liked to see people enjoying it, so he boxed up a few to-go salads with dressing on the side. So nice! We ordered an appetizer of steamed muscles/clams, and that was great in flavor. The pricing was $18 (but the menu showed $16), so that was kinda crummy. We ordered the Mahi Mahi ($28) and the Smoked Pulled Pork($28). They were both disappointing. The Mahi Mahi was lacking in flavor and came out a bit dry (small portion). The pulled pork was a huge disappointment, since it was also small portion of meat with mostly fatty parts. The flavor was ok, but definitely not what you'd expected from smoked pork. The outside looks super deceiving, as if the building was closed so you have to just walk in. Once you walk in, it's crazy's how huge it is! The restaurant has been in business since 1937 and the service is amazing!
