The service was incredibly fast and the server was helpful in offering her suggestion when I couldn't decide between dishes. I ultimately ordered the pho sate. First and last time. This food is so far from authentic Vietnamese food. This Bun Rieu doesn't look taste anything like the way it should, and the owner knows it too, but he doesn't care cuz he can fool the non-asian. The restaurant definitely needs a face-lift. But what great vietnamese food place doesn't? And it's BYOB (yes college students, I said BYOB!!). I haven't had pho in some time but I remember it always being delicious. I always love the rice plates (add a fried egg for authenticity! Worth a small extra charge) and bun (vermicelli) with grilled pork, egg roll, and shrimp the most. Fantastic spring rolls too. The ratio of lettuce, mint, noodles and meat/shrimp is just right. Favorite place in Worcester for pho. Prices are affordable, meat is tender and there is a good variety of dishes. Some of my favorites are number 18,19, and 44. The curry noodle soup, pho sate, and barbecued chicken rice plate. The da chanh limeade is really refreshing as well! read more

I should preface this review by saying that I'm grading on a Worcester curve. Dalat is a great option for Clarkies who want to eat a tasty home-style meal without breaking their budget. Their barbeque chicken with rice is excellent, as are the spring rolls, which are a little different than what you'd find in Vietnamese restaurants in New York (the skin is super crispy as opposed to a more doughy texture). When I ordered the pho, however, there was way too much hot sauce and, once mixed, the soup was bright red (*see photo). It was a bit too intense for my palette, although I don't think they usually put so much in. This hole-in-the-wall restaurant may be easy to overlook as you're driving down Park Avenue, but it is definitely worth a visit or two, or three or ten. I ordered a special called the Bo Luc Lat. Family owned restaurant with clean and nice premises. Being Pho foodies, we ordered 4 bowls of special Pho (1 size only large). A pet peeve I have is when the side garnishes are small and unfortunately Dalat was stingy on the side garnishes (we were given a 1 person size to share among the 4 of us). Pho was not bad but it was not super great. Also probably the first Vietnamese restaurant where there was most definitely MSG used in the broth which may be anathema to some. read more

FAVORITE Vietnamese restaurant and trust me when I say I've been to my fair share. It's in an iffy area of Worcester but just get up off that high-horse and gallop right in please. Service is amazing, food is phenomenal, and prices are super reasonable (I even think they deserve to jack them up a little). This is a place I always drive by everyday. I haven't ate here in years, but my friends told me it improved a lot so I gave it another shot. I got banh cuon and the portion was very small. There wasn't enough cha, but the portion at this location is very small in general. I was still hungry after I had my meal. The service was alright. Was a little underwhelmed with my recent takeout. Ordered Vietnamese fried rice, Beef pho, chicken fried rice noodle dish (they didn't have mi ka thung, and so I found something on the menu that looked similar, it turned out to be vermicelli), and a vegetarian fried tofu with mixed vegetable dish. Portions seemed smaller than what I'm used to. Also every dish (besides the pho) seemed to have an overly peppery flavor or slightly spicy flavor to it. I visited this restaurant with my Vietnamese friend and it was a nice experience. I ordered my all time favorite, Bo Kho! I often eat this noodle in New York, and they had the same quality and texture to the broth. The meat had no smell and was nicely cooked and was very soft. I wasn't big fan of the noodle though. When I left Worcester after graduating from college, I noticed a hole in my heart in the shape of Dalat. Yeah the decor isn't that great and the servers don't kiss your ass, but they will accommodate big groups, open your wine for NO corking fee, and let you sit around laughing and crying hour after hour. I always order tofu spring rolls with extra peanut sauce and a #86 which I then cover with Sriracha and the sauce in the yellow bottle. I have had friends actually mail spring rolls and peanut sauce to me in Texas. I actually dreamed about this last night, nearly two years after moving out of Worcester. That meal, plus an avocado shake. The key to Dalat is to find your meal, make it your own, tip your server and keep coming back. After a while, the staff knew when I had a to-go order and wouldn't box it up in styrofoam because they knew I would bring my own container. They started bringing my party a peanut sauce per person without us having to ask. Eating at Dalat is like taming a wild horse. Your reward comes after long, consistent effort and investment. read more

When I first walked in, I was not greeted like a guest, instead the waitress just walked me to my seat. No drink, nothing on my table after sitting there for 5-10 minutes. I ordered, received my food in generous portion. The Pho was not good at all. Too much Noodles with little soup, small amounts of flank, beef and veggies etc. So I finally asked for water (after waiting for service again on a non-busy day). Come on guys! I'm eating PHO! hello...!!! Water?. So I received water with this "damn, why don't you order soda or something" type feeling from the waitress. So I ate my horrible tasting Pho, tipped exactly 15% no penny more or less and left. I will not eat at any Pho restaurant that has cheap prices for Pho again, I rather pay 2-3 dollars more for great service and great Pho. I know what good Pho is, I grew up eating Pho and this place is NOT the place to bring anyone for Pho. Go down the street to Pho Dakao, they'll show you how to service customers and have better tasting Pho and better parking spots. read more

When I was living in Worcester, this restaurant was the thing that kept me sane. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but man! The food is just great. I've eaten at many Vietnamese places in my life, and not only is this place the best one I've been to, it's the cheapest. Win-win. My favorite dish is the "rice paper work", the one where you make your own rolls with vermicelli, meat, mint, lettuce and cucumber. My wife gets the bun thit nuong every time, without fail. They have other good things on the menu, too, but I have a hard time ordering them because I like my old stanbys so much. I see someone below rated this place 1 star because of the "pretentious Clark students". That's a silly reason to rate the place low, especially since there are just as many Worcester State and WPI students there, not to mention Worcester natives. I have been to Dalat 3 times. I tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt but our last outing has firmly cemented my opinion of this dingy place. The service is terrible, the food mediocre and the waiting is endless. You wait for a table, you wait to be approached by a server, you wait ON END for your food however they certainly are quick with the bill. We went on Friday night and while the place was full, 4 servers for 15 tables is hardly unmanageable. We waited 30 minutes to place our order and then 60 minutes to receive it. We were consoled with "Oh, well you shouldn't have ordered #44. That dish takes the longest to prepare because we have to thaw the chicken. It's frozen. You shouldn't have ordered that." At that point, my meal came out but my boyfriend's did not. We had it packed up to go, left promptly and will never been seen again at Dalat. Good riddance. read more
