Solid late night spot for drunchies. This place has been around for a while and definitely has some history on the walls. Decor and furniture is a little old and doesn't feel sparkling clean. I ordered the steamed egg and spicy octopus - steamed egg is solid but not worth the cost. Spicy octopus has hugeee portions and great spice level. We also had beef tongue which was nice and chewy.

This place is DELICIOUS!! We got the spicy beef stew and the cold spicy noodles. Super super yummy, really hit the spot. The service was great, we were seated quickly and served quickly too! It's a cozy spot with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Will be back with a bigger party :) 20/10!!

AMAZING FOOD. Service was wonderful, the servers were very attentive and friendly. Unlimited bonchon and the fish cakes are some of the best in dfw. the food came with purple rice which most places do not. Free barley tea as well. This is truly a hidden gem and open late as well.

Just flew into Texas and was craving something home-ly that was open late night. This place definitely did the trick! A wide variety of items to choose from, but it seems like they really specialize in soups and stews. Their banchan/side dish options were really good, all flavorful and seasoned well. Tofu Stew: pretty solid! I'm used to having spice level options and ingredient options (e.g. mushroom, dumpling, seafood, beef), but they just give you seafood tofu soup with one level of spice (maybe I was supposed to say it myself? Idk). For having no options, this tofu stew was really good. Came with an egg, and the tofu was in big chunks the way I like it. Gal bi tang: tasted more like gom tang with a milkier soup base, but it still hit the spot. The meat was so tender and easily fell off the bone. Spicy rice cakes: no. I'm shocked at how this dish has such a good looking base but tastes like absolutely nothing. Friends and I were saying it needs salt or some pepper or just SOMETHING because it tastes like nothing. It's not even watery; the sauce is thick and runs just enough like it should, but it had zero flavor. This place definitely isn't a cute first date spot, but gives more of like a catching up with old friends and making good memories vibe. Pricing was also fair, and after 4 entrees and one tteokbokki to share, we were all full and only paid just a little over $100. Definitely love it more than a lot of places back at home in the Bay Area and would be happy to come back if I'm ever in the area again!

How have I not been here sooner! Decided to try somewhere new tonight and this place did not disappoint! The staff were super sweet, welcoming and attentive. The food was amazing! We got the short rib soup and it was flavorful & comforting. We also got the grilled pork belly and loved the option of making it into lettuce wrap and dipping it with the two sauces. Our meal came with soo many side dishes also! Everything was delicious! Definitely adding this restaurant to our rotation, we can't wait to come back!

Great jap chase, side dishes and Barley tea. Excellent prices as well. Should have gotten the fried vs. steamed mandoo however. Service is also prompt. Cozy interior and also open late at night as well. Definitely recommended!

17 years later after being the first review of Dal Dong Nae, I'm still coming back for their late night Korean food goodness. After a long day at work I can count on this place to stay open late and provide me sustenance. We ordered the pan fried dumplings to start, then spicy pork belly and a beef rib soup. The dumplings were crispy and had a thin skin which is barely holding in all of the still moist filling. The spicy pork belly is spicy, but not too spicy to make me sweat. Eating with a bowl of the multigrain purple rice helps to bring down the heat. The soup had large chunks of rib meat with bones and love the flavor of the softened radish in this soup! Of course I'm not eating this all by myself, but have the help of my wife. Well, I think our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and ordered too much food. We're having to take a lot of food home. You won't leave hungry! I think before we ordered we forgot about the full spread of ban chan that they provide to go with your meal. Over the years I believe the ownership of Dal Dong Nae has changed hands, but their newer owner Jeanie is an experienced Korean restaurateur in the Dallas area that keeps up, if not improving the menu and flavor that this restaurant has provided over the years. It has a home-cooked feel like an auntie provides.

Went to Dal Dong Nae while on a trip to Dallas for work. I was craving bossam...and decided to try this place. It was amazing! First, the banchan here was spectacular. The oyster kimchi that came with the Bossam had SO many oysters. If you're looking for a great authentic Korean taste experience you've chose the right place!

We consider this the most authentic Korean in the DFW area. It's very mom-and-pop, so it doesn't come with all the frills, but that's another reason we probably like it. We go for the Gal bi (Korean ribs), the pan fried mackerel, the kimchi pancake, and all the fixings. This is a place we can bring our pre-teen kids to, and they eat most of the dishes. They also have the best Korean sauces.

This korean restaurant is awesome! Great variety of korean food! Its definitely a hole in the wall but its so worth it! The amount of food is very generous! Oyster Kim Chi: 5/5 Cold Noodle: 5/5 Gizzard Plate 5/5 Kim chi Soup 3/5

WOW! This place has some really tasty Korean food. Came by during the late night. Coming in, we were greeted by some friendly guest. After ordering we were then assaulted with loads of Banchan. You will get full off the Banchan so be warned.

Decided to stop by here around 9pm after spending the day at an anime convention because we were craving Korean food. It was super busy inside and it seemed like there were only 2 servers so unfortunately the service was slow. We were seated and I guess they forgot about us because we were never handed menus and ended up having to flag the server down. They were apologetic and friendly so I will excuse the slow service because they were short-staffed. The banchan was plentiful and all of them tasted great. We ordered a kimchi pancake, soondubu jjigae with seafood, and kimchi jjigae. The kimchi pancake was nice and crispy and the dipping sauce it came with paired perfectly. Both the soondubu and kimchi jjigae were so flavorful and delicious! It's unfortunate that the service was slow but the quality of the food definitely made up for it. Seating is a bit limited and the parking lot is small and fills up quickly. The food here is amazing and I will definitely try to come again next time I'm in the area. I recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Korean food, especially later in the night!

It's an unassuming location but once you step through the doors you're met with ambient lighting, wooden table tops and benches. We arrived around 11 and were greeted immediately; sat within 5 mins. Once sat, you scan the menu to order. There's plenty Korean and Asian fusion dishes to choose from. We ordered a number of things and everything was fresh and plentiful. I'll say the standout was the bulgogi and lemon pepper wings. Also, the fries were stellar! Needless to say we'll definitely be back!

When I walked in, the place was empty. I stood at the "Please wait to be seated" sign for way longer than necessary--especially since there were no other customers. I finally peeked in and saw two employees busy counting receipts and money at the register. (Bad Impression #1). After being seated, I was actually enjoying the music until I felt something sticky on my forearm. It was a stray bean sprout left on the table (Bad Impression #2). To make matters worse, the tables are incredibly low. Even at my height, I had to hunch over the entire time. I eventually gave up on table manners and just held the rice bowl up to my face to eat comfortably. Regarding the food: it was a bit salty. The kimchi fried rice was average, but the kimchi stew really missed the mark. That was the moment I realized this is a fusion spot, not authentic Korean. It wasn't horrible, but it's definitely different from the real thing. BUT, can we talk about the massive portions? (Good Impression #1). Everything is clearly meant to be shared. The service was actually good. They have a buzzer on the table for service, which I loved. It saves you from having to track down a waiter. (Good Impression #2). The ambiance is loud, poppy, and "hip." You better like K-pop if you're coming here. It's not a first-date spot because it's hard to hear each other, but it's a solid place to hang out with friends who like the genre. Will I come back? Not actively. But if someone else suggests it, I won't fight them on it.

The restaurant shines with its premium, high-quality meats--sourced thoughtfully, including standout options from 44 Farms--carefully selected and prepared by Michelin-recognized chefs. Whether you go for the popular Taste of JOA (Signature or Premier boards) or individual cuts, the beef and pork options consistently impress with rich marination, perfect tenderness, and that satisfying sizzle on the grill. Popular favorites that reviewers rave about include the marinated bone-in short rib (galbi), prime short rib, ribeye, hanger steak, pork belly, and specialties like flash-fried short ribs or shrimp. The meats arrive beautifully presented, cook evenly at the table, and deliver deep, savory flavors--often described as juicy, flavorful, and reminiscent of authentic home-style Korean cooking elevated with premium technique. Sides (banchan) are a highlight: fresh, generous, and "unreal" according to many, with standouts like mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, steamed egg soufflé, corn cheese, kimchi fried rice, and soybean paste stew (doenjang jjigae) that round out the meal perfectly. The experience wraps up sweetly with ice cream for a complete, shareable feast ideal for groups or celebrations. The atmosphere enhances everything: lively, stylish, and vibrant with a sleek, modern interior featuring neon accents that feels fun and energetic without being overwhelming--perfect for date nights, family gatherings, or special occasions. Service earns frequent praise for being attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, with staff guiding first-timers through the grilling process. Cocktails and drink towers add to the festive vibe, pairing beautifully with the smoky, savory food. Nuances and considerations: Pricing reflects the premium ingredients and experience (Taste of JOA runs around $42-$54+ per person, with upgrades for A5 Wagyu or larger parties), so value opinions vary--some see it as worth every penny for the quality and fun interactive element, while others note it can feel a bit higher-end for casual dining. A few reviews mention occasional inconsistencies in service pacing during busy times or subtle variations in ambiance depending on the crowd, but the majority describe it as consistently enjoyable and welcoming. Portions work best when shared, and the interactive grilling adds a social, hands-on layer that many love (bring a group to maximize the fun). Note that as of recent updates, the restaurant has been temporarily closed--check their website, social media, or call ahead for current status before planning your visit. Overall, JOA Grill excels at blending tradition with innovation: fire-kissed premium cuts, abundant flavorful sides, creative cocktails, and a lively yet comfortable setting make it a standout choice for anyone craving high-quality Korean BBQ in Dallas. It's frequently called one of the best in the city for good reason--great for meat lovers, groups, and those seeking an elevated yet fun dining adventure.

We were even greeted with a welcome back and given a welcome back coupon, which I loved, so the night started out well. Now for context to my frustration, last time we went here, our server cooked everything, so we only came back because we wanted to go to a Korean bbq specifically where they cooked the meat for you as well. Apparently, that isn't the norm. We ordered drinks and then waited a substantial amount of time before the servers came back to ask for our food order. Literally the table next to us ordered before us and we're basically near the end of their meal before we even ordered. Mind you, we were seated right in the thick of where the servers go in and out of the kitchen and you can see everything going on (or lack of anything). Drinks took forever to come and they started cooking one of the meats and then never came back. They kept walking past our table and not saying anything. We had to tell them that we needed help and asked if someone was going to cook for us. They apologized and would start cooking again only when we complained, but then would proceed to leave and not come back until we asked again. They kept giving us excuses that they were short staffed, which is understandable, but not when we can see them literally doing nothing about it. There was no sense of urgency or trying to work harder since they were understaffed. They would stand at the little computer at the door to the kitchen looking like they were doing something, while the rest of the restaurant was being ignored. We mentioned to them multiple times that we were being ignored and they offered to take care of us with dessert or maybe comp something at the end. At this point, I'm quiet because I'm visibly annoyed by the incompetence and got to the point where I didn't even want to talk to the staff anymore. I kinda have RBF, so I know they were feeling my frustration. We were almost done eating and were waiting for them to start cooking the shrimp, which was the last meat on our combo, and the server came by and asked if we wanted the check. I was like, "we aren't even done eating, we were waiting for someone to cook the shrimp." Now if they initially told us that we would be cooking, this all wouldn't be a problem, but we were under the impression that they would cook our food, which was the root of the entire service problem we were having. Finally, they came by with desserts that were on the house, even though I really wanted them to just comp something instead, but they didn't give us the option. We didn't even want dessert, but were forced to eat it because they felt it was a good solution to the problems with service. They even asked if we wanted a shot on the house, but I didn't want to drink alcohol that night, and when I refused, they teased me about it. It's my business if I want to drink or not, but don't assume everyone thinks alcohol solves everything. That left a sour note in my mind and sealed the deal that we won't come back. For how expensive this restaurant is, they need to have top tier service, and this was not it. I suggest you stay away!

Before the main event, we got the seafood & green onion pancake. Crispy on the outside and reasonably chewy interior. Good amount of seafood; in particular, the oyster stood out. It was also a nice portion that was ideal for sharing. I opted for the seafood soondubu. Everything, from the banchan to the specific side dishes served with the soondubu, came out not too long after ordering. I got it at spice level three which I thought offered the right amount of kick without being too overwhelming (I also like to think I have a pretty strong spice tolerance). It had a good variety of seafood; namely, the shrimp and oyster. I'm not the biggest fan of clams but they were definitely still tasty. The tofu was soft and silky. The yellow croaker and rice were great supplements to the dish. The rice perfectly absorbed the broth. The croaker added a nice crunchy break from everything. I usually order my soups at the Spicy level, which I would say has a kick and flavor but never leaves me panting for air or water. As someone who likes spice, I wouldn't say it's very spicy, but definitely flavorful. Beef Bulgogi is one of my favorite dishes, and this place's version does not disappoint. The meat is tender and has a good balance of sweet and salty. My friends also ordered Combo Specials with a Tofu soup and the Korean bbq ribs, and Spicy Pork Bulgogi. One of these friends opted for the medium spice level, which I would say is a safe choice for everyone, especially if you're worried about something being too spicy. All soups come with Korean side dishes, a whole grilled yellow croaker fish (delicious but lots of bones), and a hot stone bowl of rice. Nothing missed!
