We had the best time at this new sushi restaurant in Simi. There's plenty of parking and it's a perfect spot to go before you hit up Costco. We ordered rolls, a large beer, and some miso soup. I read all the glowing reviews on the food here. My son and I had the ayce menu offerings. When we started getting food and began to eat there was a very off putting flavor to the fish. Not good! I figured maybe it was that one thing or the fish in it. So I tried something else and that was disappointing. I kept hoping would change. I am a big fan of albacore but to my dismay my son ordered up on it because we both like albacore! No fun trying to choke that down, I seriously thought we were going to get sick after that lunch. I've had ramen all over the world--even in Paris--and I've never experienced spicy, pre-packaged glop like Dake Sushi. Yes, it really is bad. They have a regular ramen and a spicy one but there's no difference between the two. We asked for a non-spicy shoyu-based broth. Instead, we got an orange-colored spicey broth with curly, thin noodles that were just like the ones you get from the $1 package. Why would ramen have spicey orange broth that tasted a lot like taco seasoning? Oh, and the shrimp tempura is straight out of a box. Like they bought them in the frozen aisle at Walmart. No. Just no. I had previously reviewed them with 5 stars. We went yesterday and the service was horrible! We waited 20 min for menus and drink order to be taken. After an hour and half we still hadn't received all our food. The lady working was rude and would ignore you. The sushi chef was having to deliver plates and pick up dirty plates himself. The busser was a new kid that was extremely nice and kept apologizing, he even sent us extra items in between while we waited for our food. Our order while came sporadically was wrong. I cannot praise enough. Smart portions so you can have more variety of rolls and sushi. Every portion of fish was as fresh as it could be. Do not pass up the option to go premium, the sashimi is to die for. Healthy cuts that never make you feel cheated for that extra $4. My only criticism is the rice was a little dried out, but everything else was so good, that could take away 5 stars. Ice green tea is hearty like green tea should be. It's unfortunate that I have to write this review. I used to love this place, especially when it had just opened. The quality was great, and the premium AYCE was fantastic with the sashimi. I guess it was too good to stay true. Some time in the last few months, they changed the premium AYCE to limit the sashimi orders to one per person, per round, with a maximum of three rounds. Then, today, we visited again, and it's been reduced to only 2 rounds. Okay, I get it, unlimited sashimi at that price point wasn't sustainable, so now they limit you. But what I'm more disappointed in is the quality. The cuts of sashimi were so thin and not very fresh. The fish on the nigiri was even worse and some of it looked torn into pieces. The fish to rice ratio was really bad. I feel bad saying this, but it was comparable to pre-packaged supermarket sushi. Some of the appetizers were still pretty good. I liked the soft shell crab and salmon collar. But I mainly care about sushi quality, and this just won't bring me back. It was a Saturday night, but the place was pretty dead - in fact, empty when we arrived, and now I know why. Like I said, it's too bad, because this place used to be awesome. I looked at some old pictures on here and was reminded of how it used to be, but the sushi and sashimi looks nothing like that anymore. The one bright point is that the servers are still really nice and attentive, but that's also easy when you're the only customer in the restaurant. read more
