My mom my son and I walked in around 430 on a Thursday. Grand Opening sign up. Expected busy. There was one table occupied. The sushi chef said at 5 he would get additional people in but we were seated promptly. We looked at the menu which had all the favorites. My son was still unsure of his affinity for sushi so we ordered him teriyaki chicken(can't go wrong). My mom and I ordered some spicy rolls as well as some nagiri. Chef brought out beautifully plated rolls filled with fish which was absolutely delicious. The unagi was the right amount of sweet and cooked. The yellowtail was unbelievably delicious. The only thing that stopped us ordering more was my son's teriyaki came out sizzling in a pan with vegetables and a large rice bowl. He ate his meal but was curious about our continued mmming and ahhhing over each roll and tried some. He really liked it which says a lot for a picky eater. In the end we spent $100 and it was worth every penny. I only wish I lived closer to enjoy more regularly. Next time I visit my mom I know where we are going for sushi! read more

Year after year I've been on the hunt for great sushi in Simi Valley and I can finally say I found my new favorite spot with some of the freshest fish I've had in a long time!! I've been eager to check out Ozen Sushi ever since they announced their grand opening, and I finally made it in for lunch. It's clear this place is still a hidden gem because, honestly, they should have been packed given how incredible the food is. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming and the service was on point from start to finish. Water glasses were constantly refilled, empty plates disappeared quickly, and the attention to detail was noticeable throughout the meal. It's the kind of classic A+ hospitality so many of us miss these days... Pro tip: Also make sure you stop by soon because they're currently offering discounts on select specialty rolls to celebrate their grand opening. Here's what I ordered: Sushi Mori (Chef's Choice Sushi): 10/10 - If you order one thing here let it be this! Over the years, I've learned to trust a chef's recommendations, and this 10 piece sushi selection was absolutely the right call. The presentation was beautiful, but the quality of the fish stole the show. Every piece was exceptionally fresh, delicate, and thoughtfully prepared. Sua Roll: 10/10 - I'm always a fan of a good no rice roll, and this one was fantastic. Spicy tuna, crab, tuna, and salmon all wrapped together and finished with a delicious soy mustard sauce. I waddled out of here completely stuffed but seriously impressed. Knowing a sushi spot of this quality is right here in our backyard makes me so happy. I sat at the sushi bar mid-afternoon. One other diner, one sushi chef. Started with albacore, salmon, and yellowtail. Quick note on the albacore: the menu just says "albacore," but it came out seared with sauce and onions on top. They do also offer it plain, because I ordered it again that way later with no problem. Worth listing those as two separate items so people get what they expect. That second round of plain albacore was fantastic and melted in my mouth. The yellowtail was great too. What impressed me most was the consistency across every piece of nigiri. Not one of them fell apart in my chopsticks, all of them fell apart in my mouth. The rice was at the right temperature and the right texture every single time. The sushi chef knows what he's doing. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was also really well done - it was golden and crunchy outside, soft inside, generous jalapeno, and well seasoned tuna. Pricing was fair, with most nigiri under $10 for two pieces. Plating was thoughtful too. Fan shaped plates, a long decorative plate, a ceramic boat for the dessert. Someone is paying attention to how the food is presented. Where things fell short was everything around the food. The music is all covers of real songs, which I can't stand, so I put in some headphone after a while. Also, if I'm paying $65 to sit down and eat by myself, I don't want to be drinking water out of a blue plastic cup. Use a glass. It's a small thing, but it sets the tone, and the plastic cups feel like a leftover from the AYCE days. Service was light. After my first water pour, I didn't see the waitress again until I was nearly done. She was sitting on the other side of the sushi bar near the entrance most of the time, helping the occasional pickup order. Maybe she thought I didn't want to be bothered, but as the only person in the dining room, it was strange to watch empty plates stack up next to me with no check-ins. I slid them down the bar myself to make room. When I eventually asked the chef for more water, he passed the request to her a few feet away. She refilled my glass, took one of the three empty plates next to me, and walked off. Got the rest later when she brought dessert. Dessert is where the small stuff piled up. Ice cream and tempura in a nice ceramic boat, but it came with white plastic to-go utensils. I asked for metal utensils, clarifying I'd also like a spoon. I watched the chef grab a fork off the counter, run it under water for half a second, wipe it with a napkin, and hand it to me. There was a chunk of old food stuck on the eating end. Not a speck, a chunk. He apologized and brought a clean one. Never got the spoon, so I ate ice cream with a fork. The ice cream was tasty. The tempura shell was crunchy outside but mushy and cake-like inside, which wasn't for me, so I left it. Both the chef and the waitress were genuinely friendly the entire time. Everything was handled with a smile. The food shows real skill, but the execution around it doesn't match. List menu items accurately. Use real glassware. Hand out clean silverware. Check on the customer in front of you. None of these are heavy lifts, and any one of them would have made this feel like a $65 meal instead of feeling like a takeout order I happened to eat in person. read more

My daughters and I just moved into the area and needed to find a new go-to sushi spot. This was our first try and I'm not sure we're going to bother looking anywhere else. Been there twice so far and have loved it. We will not be going back. Went there for lunch and ordered sea urchin. The sea urchin was bad it was not the normal vibrant color more like a dull mustard color. Not firm but watery and tasted not right. Luckily we did not get sick. Also disgusted us when the sushi chef wiped his nose with his hand and continued making sushi. read more

I noticed this restaurant getting ready to open near my job, so I was looking forward to trying it. I was craving sushi so I decided to stop by last night after my shift and ordered the Sushi Mori and Sashimi Mori, and I was really impressed. The quality of the fish stood out immediately. Everything tasted very fresh, and the sashimi had a clean, buttery texture. The sushi was well-balanced, with a good ratio of rice to fish, which I appreciated. A lot of the tables near me ordered the rolls which I think l'll definitely order next time. Overall, the dishes felt thoughtfully prepared and high quality. The service was also great. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the experience feel comfortable without being overwhelming. The food came out in a timely manner, even though it seemed like they were fairly busy. Also, the atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming, making it good for families and casual dinners. After a long day of work, this exactly satisfied my craving for sushi that I had been having all day. Ozen bought our favorite sushi spot, so still trying to be loyal customers to what we once loved so much, we gave Ozen a try. They were not very busy and service was good. The owner is also the sushi chef. The fish has a great texture and finding new rolls was pretty easy. There is a roll with no rice (cucumber outside, salmon, yellow tail inside) it was refreshing and delicious. Quality of the fish is really high and the flavor profile of the rolls was curated well. We do miss all you can eat, as the rolls are about $18 a piece and nigiri averages $7-$9 an order. We will definitely go back and try more rolls and nigiri. read more
