Incredible sushi, excellent service, and they always remember our order, truly the best spot around!

    Pubic hair and Saran Wrap

Ordered take out last night and went to pick it up I got home, opened the take out and in one of our ramen there was a hair that looked like a pubic hair... and a piece of Saran Wrap. Never coming here again. This is unacceptable and disgusting

Came here for lunch with a friend and it was great! It wasn't too busy on a Saturday afternoon, and it was nice to be inside on a hot day. We had a baby with us and the server was very friendly and kind and fun. I got the special Joe roll which was DELISH & fancier than I expected. The fried onions were so good and a plenty! I also got an appetizer order of tempura vegetables which were also good. Overall I'm glad to have found this little gem in Simi. I really enjoyed it.

I ordered to go from this place since it's a rainy day and im pet sitting so I wanted something to eat for dinner while cozied up on the couch. This place was the closest to where I was pet sitting at and good ratings so I placed an order for a scheduled time. More and more places are charging for sauce on the side now and unfortunately I think it's because so many people order more than necessary and are just doing too much so I put on the notes to keep the wasabi and ginger and please put some extra ponzu and they did, not sure if they charge for sauce but if they do im glad they were willing to make that acception. Everything was alright no issues but once I got home and opened my bag I was wowed and so impressed as I had never seen a place do this before and I am often annoyed when places put multiple different rolls in one box because you never know if they are for different people but I know it's to reduce waste and save money and it's usually not that big a deal (especially since any entire order was for me) but they labeled each side of the box and left an arrow pointing to the sauce that goes with it!

This place never lets us down!! Always super fresh and beautifully presented fish, with great customer service! They have been uping their game lately as well! Really nice menu covers (although they should maybe use nicer paper to match the quality of everything else?), and serving the sake in an ice bath! (Needed a cloth napkin too) but it was still nice! Even all of the conversations going on around us touched in how fresh and delicious everything is. We come here almost once a month for our sushi fix! Not even worth trying other places anymore; this place sets the bar really high.

    Alaskan Roll (actual)

Been coming here for years which is why they get a 3 instead of a 1 or 2. Food is good, prices are ok, my issue is the serving sizes. Look at the picture of the flying dragon roll vs the Alaska roll. The flying dragon is completely covered on top whereas the Alaska roll is a California roll with a thin strip of salmon. This is not the first time this has happened but this is the first time I've tried addressing it with the owner and he just said it's supposed to be that way. The menu picture from their website says otherwise. I can recommend this place but I can't recommend that specific roll.

Best Sushi, Teriyaki bowls in Simi. Fresh and flavorful. Even the side salads have the best homemade dressing. Yum!

The food was delicious. There seemed to only be one server for the whole restaurant, so the service was on the slow side.

This ramen place is so unique with special favors like TRUFFLE ramen!!…read more I got that one and as a truffle lover wow it was AMAZING!! And I came from chino hills which has alot of good ramen places. We also had chicken katsu curry and karaage which were both perfection. Ambiance The environment was very relaxing, although definitely small. Food We ordered the Mentaiko Chicken Tonkatsu as well as the Chicken Wonton Soup ramen. The soup did not come out as hot as we would have liked, it felt like it was just warmed. Although the chicken wonton soup came with a clear broth, we felt that it was oily. The actual chicken wontons had a good flavor and texture. The dish was simple but was sufficient. The mentaiko chicken tonkatsu ramen felt like it lacked depth despite being a tonkatsu broth. Although, the chicken that topped the dish was very flavorful and seemed to be marinated well. The noodles were the classic texture and the topping for me felt standard. Service Our waitress was nice, but it definitely felt a bit understaffed and we were forgotten about (I don't blame her since we were taking our time with the menu).

The food was just so-so, and maybe I just chose wrong? The name "California Bowl" to me doesn't suggest a particular type of Asian cuisine, so I was confused about there not being dumplings. The only kind they really have are the shape of potstickers, but they are only fully fried. I ended ordering the Shrimp Udon, and it was just okay. Challenging to eat without getting broth everywhere, actually. DH and I did share an order of the fried dumplings and they were too well cooked for my preference. DH wasn't in the mood for sushi, but I think that would have been a better choice here that the noodles. I'd personally like more vegetables as part of the offerings. The restaurant was clean. Service was okay, if on the austere side. I was still craving the food from my new local favorite place when we left after our short visit to California Bowl.

It's been around forever and they are very generous with their portion sizes for the price. Their gyoza sauce is delicious, it's sweet and very addictive. My only complaint is that the man at the front isn't very friendly and always seems very reluctant when I ask for extra gyoza sauce. I've mentioned multiple times that I'm willing to pay for additional sauce, but he still begrudgingly gives it to me. It does make me hesitate to go in as often because I feel like I have to practically beg for enough sauce to fully enjoy my meal. Aside from that, everyone else has always been very nice and polite. Overall, it's a great restaurant with delicious food.

This reservation took a full year to secure and I would gladly wait another year to experience it again. The hardest reservation in Ventura County? Without a doubt. Worth it? YES doesn't even begin to cover it. Dining at Sushi Tanaka is an experience in itself, especially in the presence of a legend like Chef Sei Tanaka. He is warm yet serious, focused yet playful and his dishes speak volumes. Every bite is layered with personality and skill. On the night we came in, my dearest friend Leslie and I had the entire restaurant to ourselves. I can't explain how we had an entire seating to just us but it was magical and intimate. We dinned on 18 courses, each one a surprise more delicious than the last. You just sit back and the chef chooses each bite for you. We've never had octopus so impossibly tender it melted in our mouths. Ice cold sake, warm fish soup, literally I could go on and on about this meal. Choosing favorites feels almost wrong because every course was exceptional, but if forced, the Santa Barbara uni on wagyu, Japanese scallop, Sea bream, and Toro with uni were some of the most impressive and unforgettable bites I've ever had. Never did I imagine that the best sushi I've ever experienced in Ventura County would be found in Simi Valley, but here we are. What an absolute treasure this city holds. The chef is so patient, kind and he explains every dish. He also has a nice playlist of blues music playing throughout our dinner.
