For the starters, the Swiss Chard dip came with just 4 toasted pieces of bread approximately 3 inches wide and a quarter inch thick. The main course we had was especially modest. We ordered the Rotolo and Cappelletti to share between two people. The Rotolo came with two pieces that were okay-sized. The Cappelletti however was just 8 pieces each about an inch and a half wide. Dessert had the largest portions of the entire meal. The food was delicious and service was great, but I didn't enjoy leaving hungry with a $330 bill (we had 3 cocktails). Ok, let's talk about this Chicago-dog croissant--because it's a collab between Weiner Circle and the pastry chef at Dasies, and yes I had to come get it after seeing snarky promo videos on the 'Gram. You've gotta be prepared, because the inside is a painted layer of plastic-bottle mustard and bright green relish... go dump your French-chocolate dilettant-self into the Chicago river. The poppy-seed croissant is winning all the awards, but I'm thinking that's true of every croissant here--crispy-flaky outside (lean over the table)--soft butter chew insides. The cute skewered tomato and pickle on top are awesome, but to get a full flavor experience, I pulled out the toothpick, and stuffed the whole garden in the pouch. Sport-pepper in a butter pastry = New. This one definitely wins the hipster Chicago experience award for 2024 so far. My only wish would be that they offered to warm the croissant just a bit--the full cold meat hot dog isn't as nice as you'd want. Everything here was delicious! The Gnocchi is a MUST HAVE! It was as soft as pillows. The lamb in the Stracci was so tender, and the spicy sausage in the Rigatoni was crispy and the perfect touch! This place seemed like a great culmination of a food experience. The server, Christie C, was absolutely fantastic. She was able to make us comfortable and walk us through the menu as if she was a friend. She also was fantastic with one of our party members gluten allergy. She was able to break down everything that could be made for her and marked the menu to show it. Now to get to the food. All Of it was incredible. Daisies is a unique take on Italian classics. They seem to pride themselves in quality vegetables and unique flavors. It is in Logan Square, parking is on the street so depending on the day you may have a hard time finding a parking spot. I got lucky and found spot maybe half a block away right on Milwaukee. The interior is very modern, I was a bit worried because the seats seem a bit cramped, but surprisingly it wasn't too loud and the ambiance was really nice. The service was amazing, our waiters was easy to talk to and super nice. Next for the food and drinks. First we had the appetizer which was the onion dip with house made chips. It was good but I didn't think it was much better than buying some onion dip and truffle fries from Jewel :). We had a sampling of different pastas. They started bringing them out one by one and they are made to share and taste. First we had the ravioli which was pretty good, I didn't taste the truffle much but it was enjoyable mild flavor. Next the pierogi with scallops was by far our favorite dish. I didn't think pierogi could taste this good and I'm polish. It was an absolute delight. The Rigatoni was a disappointment for me, I personally didn't like it, it had a sharp cheddar taste that I didn't appreciate although I'm sure others would love it. The drinks were amazing by the way. The beer old fashioned was a hit. I didn't think the combination would work but it did and I feel like it made the drink a little healthier. If yo want to try something different and new check out Daisies. Be aware that reservations may be hard to get and that they charge a 25% service charge to every check. This restaurant was super cute inside! When I first entered, it was really loud and felt like I was there for a business meeting or holiday party. The host brought us to the back and it was much quieter for a date night. The menu had too many good options and I was struggling to decide what to order. We started off with the fritto misto and mushroom toast. The fritto misto sauce was super flavorful! I loved the thin batter on the fritto dish and everything about it was just perfect. The mushroom toast blew my mind. I didn't have any expectations but WOW! I would totally order it again even though it was definitely on the heavier side. We ordered 3 pasta which were cavatelli, pierogi, and cappelletti. My favorite was the pierogi. The potatoes inside just melted in my mouth when I took the bite and the mussels were super fresh. We had a dinner reservation for Saturday night, and we were able to be seated a couple minutes after checking in. The overall ambience of daisies is warm and inviting, and surprisingly, not too loud despite the open concept floor plan. We got the onion dip with a salt and vinegar homemade chips, and it honestly blew my mind how good it was; the texture and flavor of the chips was absolutely perfect, and the dip was creamy and salty and oniony without being overpowering. We got the simple green salad and two pastas, and we were pretty full after sharing that between two people. Our favorite pasta was the rigatoni, as it almost had a chewy texture like a Korean ttoekbokki and the sauce was an nduja and fermented tomato that had a nice tang. We also loved the drinks, especially the apricot Montenegro low alcohol combo that tasted so unique. I would give this place five stars with the only exception being the cake - we ordered the celebration cake to go, and when we got home to try some of it, it was absolutely bone dry. I talked to my work friends and in no time, there were 9 people interested in dining here. We made reservations for dinner on a Saturday ahead of time as two separate but we learned that if we merge as one big group then there is a fixed menu. Even though we changed our request at the last minute to split from a big group to two separate ones, the staff accommodated us. It was very nice and kind of them (they could have declined our request). The atmosphere inside was great - it was decently loud. Our server was fantastic, he recommended great options. Our food from drinks to appetizers to entrees to dessert was just brilliant. The flavor in each item was outstanding! We ordered the Sweet Onion and Onion Dip to start. For a fried food lover, I enjoyed the onion dip more. I felt like the sweet onion was missing something. For pastas, the Stracci and the rigatoni were great. If you don't like spice, heads up because the rigatoni has a little heat. Lastly the turkey wings were good. You could taste the honey they used in it and it came with a side of a wet towel, which was very much appreciated. Celebrated my husbands birthday at Daisies and we are so happy we did! Made reservations in advanced to get seated for dinner in the back room. Honestly everything we ate came out differently than we expected and it was all spectacular. Every dish was a true creation of elegant taste and flavor. The cocktails were strong and some of the best cocktails we've ever had. Loved the ambiance of the place and our server was super charismatic, very patient, and gave great recommendations. The dishes that were the stars of the show were the chicken fried quail, ravioli, and potted carrots. Holy hell I crave both of them still. And at the end we were so stuffed we didn't want dessert but they gave us a teeny tiny little cake slice for my husbands birthday. Now here is where it kinda fell off. The ravioli was like the best pasta I ever had but the rigatoni confused me. Especially the front of house. We sat in the back which felt a bit more intimate, only like... 6ish tables there and where they do the pasta making which was cool to watch. - Service was excellent! That was actually the best part of the meal. When I explained my disappointment to the server his response was simply "okay." I came here on a rainy Sunday afternoon for lunch and there was no wait. There were only a handful of tables occupied when we arrived. We picked a table and sat ourselves down and waited for awhile before we realized that we had to order our food up front with the barista. I also got a few pastries and a matcha latte while I was up there. I didn't realize that everything was self-service. We had to fetch our own utensils, plates, water, napkins, and to-go boxes since there wasn't a single worker in the dining area outside of the barista which kind of threw me off. There's a small menu for lunch and it only consists of sandwiches. I had the smoked whitefish sandwich (frisee, smoked trout roe, dill, sprouted wheat) while hubby had the cubano (roasted pork, ham, house pickles, swiss, ciabatta). The bread for both sandwiches was probably the best part of the meal. The smoked whitefish sandwich was super saucy and the cubano mostly tasted like mustard and pickles. The matcha latte I had was well blended but only had a mild matcha flavor. We had a hazelnut pastry and a rhubarb pastry which were decent. I liked the flavor of the rhubarb pastry but the outside was so hard so it was difficult for my toddler to eat. Maybe my expectations were high since Daisies is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant but maybe dinner is better. read more
