This was my first time at this restaurant, and it was a pleasant experience. The ambiance on the patio was lovely and the staff was attentive and friendly without being pushy. My son and his girlfriend have been there many times, and insisted we get the whipped ricotta appetizer and kale salad. Both of these items were top notch, as were the cocktails and we enjoyed. The pasta bolognese that the ladies ordered was delicious. My son had the burger and fries, and it was fine, just not very special. I ordered the "half" chicken, thinking as a bird themed restaurant, the only poultry entree would be a star, but that was not the case. A small thigh and half of a breast was their interpretation of a half chicken, and this was noted on the menu, but the portion was disappointing. The dish was supposed to to be accompanied by polenta with trumpet mushrooms, but two paltry slices of mushroom with a small smear of polenta completed the dish which "artfully" only occupied the left half of the plate, leaving the rest of the plate bare. Small portions aside, the dish was overly salty, to the point I had dry mouth the rest of the night, and the chicken was overcooked. The taste was fine, and the little bit of polenta added enough moisture to make the dish work. The worst thing was the incredibly dull dinner knife that couldn't cut through the mushroom, let alone the chicken, causing me to apply the stab and pull/tear method to get bite sized pieces. Everything thing else was superb. I would go back for the cocktails and appetizers, perhaps grazing the appetizers and a salad as a dinner. The pastas all looked terrific, but I will probably steer clear of the four mains on the menu, as they seem to be the least inspired items to order. read more

Came here on a Tuesday night and it was packed! Such a great ambiance. We got to sit outside in their patio area that is huge. Their pasta selection is so good, I wanted to try them all! The portion sizes for the pasta are small and not good for sharing. Tried the crispy cauliflower and it did not disappoint. Our group of five had dinner at The Warbler and really enjoyed it. The food, drink, and service were great. I recommend this place. This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend who used to live in the neighborhood, Lincoln Square. It's one of his favorite restaurants in Chicago and we dined here with him. Reservations: This place is popular so definitely make a reservation. The Warbler is on Resy, which is notable for those with the American Express Platinum Card ($100 per quarter Resy credit). Parking: We parked in the adjacent pay lot. It's convenient and had plenty of open spaces during our visit just before 8:00 PM on a Thursday night. Atmosphere: It was uncomfortably warm inside. The dining room and enclosed outdoor patio were packed. We sat in a U-shaped booth next to the semi-open kitchen, which was cool. The vibe is casual; it definitely has the feel of a local neighborhood joint. Food and Drink: The five of us shared apps and veggies and each got our own drinks and entrees. I was in Chicago over the holidays and what a whirlwind - I'm STILL reviewing places I went. So, recall. I did a girls day with my mom and SIL. Afterwards we were hungo so SIL took us to a spot she and my brother love for dinner (and the ribs specifically). Turns out, it's one of those where the lunch menu is very different from dinner so it was like we all got to experience it for the first time. The lunch menu was small but mighty. Me and my Mom were trying to decide between the chicken salad sandwich and the burger and Lo! The table of 4 next to us ordered both and gave rave reviews. Can confirm - both were delicious. I've been coming to The Warbler for a long time, and while the atmosphere is still inviting and the staff is incredible, the kitchen's execution has fallen off just a bit lately. The Service: I cannot overstate how great the service is here--it is truly exceptional and top-tier. The hospitality remains the absolute highlight of the experience and is some of the best you'll find in Chicago. The Food: The Cheeseburger: This was actually very good. It was a very tasty, above-average burger and I have no complaints there at all. Korean Wings: At one point, I said these were the best wings in the city. I don't stand by that anymore; they're still tasty, but they've lost that "best in class" spark. The Chicken, Mushroom & Polenta: This was the signature dish at their sister restaurant, Gather, which closed a few years ago. Compared to the version at Gather, this was a letdown. It was under-salted, the fried pieces were over-fried, the roasted portion was dry, and the polenta lacked the creaminess it used to have. Carrot Cake: The carrot cake with praline ice cream is tasty, but is reminiscent of a microwaved Mug cake. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. The balance of flavor is nice and I appreciated the salt to balance the sweetness. Overall: It's still a nice vibe and the service is truly world-class, but the food used to be more consistent across the board. We had a huge late breakfast earlier so I ordered an appetizer- Nachos that consisted of roasted pork, tomatillo salsa, lime crème, sambal, and black beans My brother had the Mediterranean Muhammara and Roger had the Bacon & Date Flatbread The Nachos were delicious and fresh. The pork was tender and delicious. My brother & Roger have eaten here several times. I had a slice of the flatbread and let me say the bread alone was delicious! It's baked fresh every day. Upon arrival we were told they could seat us early. We arrived at 8 so it worked out We were seated in a cozy corner. The only issue was that it was too dark. I looked around and the light was out. I informed our server and she then told her manager. He walked through but didn't say anything. She then came back to say they're working on it. The manager suggested we could move to another table. Absolutely loved this place!! Stopped in for a quick dinner after being at an event in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. Our server was so incredibly friendly and helpful when making decisions. We tried a few cocktails, which were so unique and delicious. For dinner, we split the bacon and date flatbread that was a perfect mixture of savory and sweet, and the pesto cavatelli, which is every pesto lovers dream. They have a great patio for outdoor seating. The inside is super nice as well. All I could think when I think about this dinner was everything was so FRESH!  Our standouts for our meal: the mussels, the tempura ribs, and salmon There are so many mussels that come in the dish that it was perfect for the three of us dinning. I highly recommend getting extra bread on the side because the bread is essential for soaking up all the delicious saucy goodness.  The tempura ribs were perfectly cooked and mely in your mouth with a delicious sauce. We really appreciated the freshness to the sauce of the salmon as well. Outside of our three standouts we also got the pork shoulder which was super juicy and fall off the bone, the papperdelle which is house fresh made and fantastic, and a big salad which had a perfect amount of greens + add ons in each bite. Drinks: The Regal Eagle was the standout for us  Our server was so friendly and always made it a point to take the time to checkin and chat regardless of how busy he was.  It'd love to come back and try their lunch menu or their supper club! Came here for my birthday Eve dinner. I'm new to the area and wanted Cacio e Pepe and upon searching for places to serve it, this place was mentioned. It's a hike for us as we are in Hyde Park but it was worth it. For one , it's not just kid friendly, but when we arrived (reservationless) they had no issues with our kid sitting at the bar. They were beyond kid friendly in my opinion. The seats were comfortable. The staff were so kind. The waitresses at the bar were so attentive. Our food came out pretty quickly. And I very much enjoyed my pasta and glass of rosé! I don't always get to enjoy whole wheat pasta. I really liked the flavor and texture. I enjoyed the cheese sauce and could taste the pepper nicely. I was glad to take home leftovers. Can't wait to eat for lunch. My husband got the burger. He thought it was great. He didn't think it was very greasy and he felt happily satiated. The music isn't as loud as other restaurants and the bathrooms are nice too. I hope to come back. read more

Finish with any one of our decadent desserts - choose your favorite! It was incredible! The Tuscan kale salad had me skeptical but we all were blown away by it. I love this place! To start, the drinks are truly fantastic. I love the cocktails. They're creative but not too strange like some places are making their drinks these days, and just darn delightful. As for food, I feel like the Warbler is great because the menu feels like there is something for everyone. I really love the unique salads in particular. It's hard to find a place that cares about making salads interesting but they really hit the nail on the head here! The icing on the cake? The restaurant has such a beautiful and thoughtful interior. There's a beautiful bar, and I love the layout with the separate back room and variety of tables and seating options. I would love to sit in one of the cute booths one day! We had a concert at the Old Town Music. This was very convenient and it was our first time. We ordered to share Kale Salad, crispy cauliflower and half a chicken. The salad was very nice and fresh. The Mac nut butter and Mac nuts in the salad added a nice touch. The cauliflower was awesome. The chicken was done 2 ways. Thighs were fried and breast was sous vide. It was both delicious and moist. I've wanted to try this place for a long time. My Husband and I stopped in for lunch. Overall, everything was great. The Decor is quite nice, and the staff is friendly and on point. We enjoyed the food. I had the French onion soup and a whipped ricotta and Crostini appetizer. The whipped ricotta with blueberries was amazing. I took the leftovers home and had it for breakfast. The next morning. My chief complaint is the noise level. The acoustics in the restaurant are not great and with all the people talking, it gets extremely noisy to the point you have trouble carrying on a conversation with the people at your table. Not recommended if you're on first date Gochujang Korean pork shoulder is pretty juicy and chewy but it has nothing to do with gochujang. Can't taste at all. Came here for lunch and the lunch menu was a real struggle to choose from because of the very limited and mediocre offerings. I ordered the smash burger and fries and mom Ordered the chicken salad sandwich and fries. Both were just not good dry burnt burger was overly salty and fries did not appear homemade. It all seemed like prepackaged food from Trader Joe's. Over $70 later we were both saddened by how far the Warbler food has fallen. This is definitely my last visit. read more

Nice restaurant in the Lincoln Park area. I sat at the bar for a late afternoon snack. The dining room was closed at the time but patio seating was available too. The staff was very friendly and the man running the bar provided great service. I ordered a mushroom flat bread with truffle. A staff person was about to deliver it to a group who had ordered after me but the man running the bar deftly intercepted him and redirected the flatbread to me (good for me and for the large group since all their food arrived shortly after at the same moment). The flatbread was delicious. Hot, cheesy and flavorful. It was a good choice. Drinks also looked great. I will definitely be back when I have time for a full meal. read more

The burrata in the Creamy Burrata was overly salted and the accompanying salad did not have enough power to complement it. The sourdough also had no flavor, although there was an olive oil drizzle on it. The highly popular Crispy Cauliflower was also too salty. Some pieces that were covered in the ponzu glaze were unenjoyable. Maybe needs more pickled onion. Thankfully the Fusilli pasta with shrimp and garlic cream sauce was delicious. Loved everything about this dish. The Roasted Mushroom flatbread came out last, which was strange to me, as it felt like quite a heavy dish to be served after 3 dishes. It had great flavors and is delicious for mushroom lovers. Pet peeve: the toppings kept wanting to come off. I've been to The Warbler three times. The first two visits were fantastic--memorable food, solid service, and a place I was eager to return to. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was a letdown, with disappointing service and a noticeable drop in food quality. We arrived for brunch/lunch and I ordered a coffee early on. I noticed the table next to us had ordered coffee as well. About 15 minutes later, when our food finally arrived, my wife reminded the server about the coffee. I told them to skip it at that point. A different server came by shortly after and said, "Oh, we're just brewing a fresh pot." Odd, considering how long we'd been waiting--and even stranger, the other table didn't receive their coffees until after they'd finished not only their meals but their dessert as well. Clearly, something was off. My wife also finished her iced tea before our food arrived and was never offered a refill. It just felt inattentive, in contrast to our prior visits. As for the food, we ordered the mushroom soup, which came in a much smaller portion than expected. We weren't told we were getting the "add-on" size, but I suspect we were charged accordingly. While it's nice to save a few dollars, we would've appreciated being asked, especially at the expense of a reduced portion size, which is not what we wanted. The banh mi was flavorful but noticeably dry and skimpy on filling. The small side of fries tasted like they'd been sitting around a while--lukewarm and not crisp. The so-called "chopped" salad was neither chopped nor well-balanced; it was far too acidic and hard to eat. Now, I don't want to paint the whole place with a bad brush. On past visits, we really enjoyed the Muhammara (my favorite item), the falafel was excellent, and both the kale and arugula salads were vibrant and well-prepared. Service during those earlier meals ranged from good to excellent, which makes me wonder--did we just hit an off day this time, or were we lucky before? I'd still recommend The Warbler based on past experiences, but my most recent visit gives me pause. I hope this was just a blip, not a trend. read more

Stopped in right at noon when they opened on a Tuesday for lunch and luckily got the last seat on the patio without a reservation. The Short Rib Sandwich caught my eye, which tasted like an elevated Italian Beef on a Focaccia roll. With this in mind, I wish they had a side of ju to dip the sandwich in, but either way, it was delicious with a mild spice from the Giardiniera. I love the aesthetic of the decorations - they are simple, clean, and unique with a delicate touch of plant themes around. The service from Jay was informative and separate water servers were going around to keep water glasses at peak conditions. I returned for dinner with five girlfriends on Thursday at 7:30 PM with reservations. The Roasted Broccoli side was the best thing I had the entire night. It had this chipotle-like sauce on the plate, baked garlic pieces, and an apricot slaw on the side as a bonus item. The Crispy Tempura Ribs were also wonderful with scallions and sesame seeds coming with four total. This place is so experimental with food and flavors and they execute at a high level. The ambiance was beautiful and it was too cold to go outside, which was shortly followed by a storm, though there is covered patio. The dining room became quite full and there was a screaming crying toddler and the parents just kept slowly sipping their wine and eating their food as if the baby's shrill screeches were not impacting anybody else around them. This has nothing to do with The Warbler's staff, but it is a comment that the dining room can be quite loud inside, so maybe not the best place for a quiet intimate dinner or first date. read more
