Visiting Boston for the first time and heard this was a great restaurant. It looked very nice inside however, five minutes after sitting down we saw a mouse dart across the floor. Brought attention to the server and bartender standing nearby who looked at it and watched it run across the floor towards the kitchen. The staff then proceeded to walk around pretending to look for it by some tables. Neither seemed concerned nor surprised by the mouse. I've had the food and the drinks here. The food was okay, but it was pretty pricey. I believe that if they were going to charge the food a bit on the pricier side, then the quality should be better. There weren't a lot of flavors and overall was a bit dull. I also came here to try to rooftop deck and it was okay. The walls were super high and the space felt very small. I didn't like the vines that were growing around because it made the space feel even smaller. I ordered a moscow mule and it was not exciting. It came in a bar glass instead of a traditional copper mug. The flavor was strongly acidic with only a hint of ginger beer. It was too sour for my taste. On a beautiful day, you come here for the roof deck! However, there are no phone reservations allowed for the roof deck - but it is worth the wait. The beer and cider menu is excellent. To Do: 1) All Seafood related items (especially the crab cake sandwiches and Blacken Swordfish Salad) 2) Bruschetta is sooo good. This place has a special significance for me because I had my first date with my significant other here. They have a nice layout- you can either sit in the first level or the second level, and I usually tend to prefer the bar area. Today, I got a table with my friend in the second level. I ordered the club 47 martini to begin with. My friend ordered the buffalo chicken tenders and the cauliflower salad. The martini was decent, I didn't feel a hint of pomegranate as strongly as I'd have expected but this was not a bad drink. I didn't taste the tenders but I did taste the cauliflower salad which was very good. I was craving something sweet today so I got the chocolate explosion to share-- this was good. The portion for this dessert item was ideal. The service was not bad. I wouldn't say it was phenomenal but it wasn't terrible, so met expectations. The location is really good, and I bet that these bars are all facing competition with one another given that there are many bars and restaurants in this area. However, a plus for this bar is that you can get a place to sit, and talk to people. It is a good location for a date night (has to be, see my first sentence!!) or a private catch up with a friend. This is a good place to get a few drinks (check out their menu for their scotch options too). One of the few warmer nights in Boston spring, my friends and I came to Daedalus for drinks after dinner. At first it just seems like a regular bar, but don't be fooled, there is a rooftop bar! (There isn't much a view per say, but it's nice to be outside when it's nice) It seems like it's usually packed, so tip, go upstairs, ask the host if you can put your name in and then just have drinks at the bar downstairs. We waited about an hour, but the drinks are really good and with good company an hour doesn't seem so long. Some people will complain about this, but I think the best part about the rooftop is that the host needs to seat you, as in, you can't just stand around. Maybe it's because I'm not good at sharing, but I don't like when open patios or roof decks are just filled with people standing around and waiting aggressively for the bartender's attention while being smushed like sardines. Daedalus does a great job with giving you room to actually enjoy the outside and spend time with your friends without having to shout above/around people. Once we got upstairs, we ordered dessert. Tiramisu and ice cream. The vanilla ice cream was okay and the tiramisu was above average. Loved the drinks, and the vibe on the roof deck for a chill get together. read more

Host said "we will see if there is space when you get here". They offered seating at their sister restaurant the Boat House but also could not confirm if that was outside. We ended up going elsewhere that could guarantee us outdoor seatings. They also were unable to give us two separate tables for a larger party (ie 6 + 6) even though we understood that the party could not mix across tables. Met up with a friend here before boston calling. It wasn't that busy, but before everyone arrived (3 in total) we ordered drinks at the bar. The bar upstairs took a while to get the bartenders attention, but we were eventually serviced. The food was brought to us 10 minutes after that, as we eyed the table that was reserved. still empty. The food was a slightly poached pear with cold cheese on it next to a mountain of lettuce. The bruschetta was one piece of bread, (soggy now) two dollops of burrata cheese and smushed tomatoes around the outskirts of the plate. Although the food was not bad, it just seemed like a mockery to call it bruschetta. It was not a sharable appetizer, not crispy, not easy to eat. This place is kind of a hidden gem in Harvard Square. Why? Well you have your typical bar/restaurant that's available all year and then in the summer, the outdoor patio area is available for dining al fresco. My friends even took me here for the beginning of my bachelorette party...that was a good night. The main selling point of Daedalus is definitely the rooftop seating and bar. It's an all around solid restaurant in Harvard Square for drinks and food, and in warmer months, the two story restaurant opens their rooftop seating. As far as food--think of a traditional American style restaurant with the staples of apps, salads, sandwiches and entrees. I really enjoyed my Brie and pear salad with chicken--as it was light, healthy, and simple. The calamari appetizer was also pretty good. Daedalus is a new place that my parents have discovered within the last few years and they are loyal customers, as am I. We go to this restaurant for different celebrations (birthdays, good news, achievements, etc.) The food is always great, the atmosphere is always great, and the staff is always friendly. Daedalus is a great place to catch up with friends. The second floor has plenty of space, and the large windows on the ceiling help make the place feel open. You can see some of the redbrick Harvard architecture through the windows! The place attracts the local Harvard and Cambridge crowd without the tourists. However, this brutal winter made it impossible to enjoy a luncheon outdoors, so I succumbed to an opportunity to dine inside the bar/restaurant. My friends and I were looking for a bar to watch a basketball game. All other bars in the vicinity were either packed or did not have a TV. We tried our luck at Daedalus and were pleasantly surprised by the numbers of TVs and available seating. My group was seated on the second floor, where we had a booth and a TV all to ourselves. We weren't allowed to turn the volume on, which wasn't too bad. That's what subtitles are for, right? We had to have some appetizers and drinks for game day. The drinks were average at best. They were either hits or misses. I enjoyed my Moscow Mule - vodka, ginger beer, lime juice, and garnished with a slice of lime. It came in a cool bronze cup. There was a refreshing taste to it and it had just the right amount of kick. The Hendrick's was interesting. It was a gin and tonic but not in a cocktail form. I was presented with glass full of gin and a bottle of tonic. I wasn't clear on how to drink it... Was I supposed to chug the gin and chase it down with a few sips of the tonic? A word of instruction would've been helpful. We also got a couple of orders of buffalo wings and truffle fries. Note: meager serving sizes. 3 pieces of wings and a few celery/carrot sticks came with each order. The wings were swimming in a pool of buffalo sauce, which made the first bite extremely pungent. I would pass on the wings next time. The truffle fries were okay. They were on the soft and chunky side. They tasted pretty delicious while we were buzzed. Besides the lack of quality in the food, the service was also subpar. Our waitress was unsympathetic and uninterested the whole night. When we asked for water, she only brought us one glass. We wanted to order more food because the portions were small, only to be informed that the kitchen had already closed. It was only around 11 pm. Regardless, we would have really appreciate a last call! Overall Daedalus is a just another option if you need a place to chill around Harvard Square. So Saturday Brunch at Daedalus: girls morning out. Doing my research on the menu beforehand, I was set on the not-your-average eggs benedict with avocado and smoked salmon. Upon entering, we were taken to the rooftop, which was nearly empty. Because I read that Daedalus tends to over poach their eggs, I emphasized this to the waiter: I hate overdone eggs. But when one has a track record of doing something--if one is sometimes iffy--there's a high probability that the future will reflect the past. Alas, while one egg was perfect, the other was completely cooked in that the yolk was solid. Sooo disappointed. If you can't understand the art of poaching eggs, how can I trust anything else? The salmon was so fresh and thin: it had a grainy smooth texture with perfect consistency, unlike the dining hall smoked salmon that is rough and nearly raw. The avocados--with their creamy texture--fit well with the chewiness of the bread and the smoothness of the salmon. The fried potatoes were amazing: crispy small pieces that were not too oily, as I dipped them my way through the ketchup. My friend ordered the veggie omelet. So ordinary, in fact, that there is nothing to comment on. And that is that. End of review. Delicious but forgettable. At least we had a good view. read more

It was our first time to Daedalus, and we were just looking to grab a drink while waiting for our reservation at another restaurant. The downstairs bar was full, so we trekked upstairs, and I'm glad we did! It's much bigger upstairs, but not too big that it actually still feels like a "neighborhood" type bar. We had a great bartender, Jay, who happened to be from the Pacific NW just like us, so we naturally bonded pretty quickly. We ended up staying there for dinner and had a nice time. The food was good (and I'm a foodie saying that), but nothing out of this world. We noticed what looked like a pretty cool deck off the upstairs that would be fun for the summer. We're looking forward to checking the deck out as soon as it gets nice! A few days later, we came back as we were entertaining out of town guests. Our bartender buddy, Jay, wasn't working, but another very friendly bartender upstairs helped us. It was refreshing to have a smile with service at Daedalus as that has been severely lacking at other Boston restaurants and bars.
