    House red

This is a very quiet part of the Monti neighborhood. We were so glad this place was a 1/2 block walk from our hotel. We ate here a couple of nights. The wait staff is fast, nice and friendly. They are so engaging, making you feel like family. We ate outside once and enjoyed the lit umbrellas. Amatriciana pasta (bacon and tomato) the first night along with carbonara. Wonderful dishes. House red was cheap for a bottle of local Merlot. The second night we ate there, we ate inside where they have an enormous interior with big fish tanks. We enjoyed the pork and chicken specialties of the house and they were fabulous. Feeling a bit sporty, we bought a bottle of Lambrusco since we had not had that fruity, bubbly stuff since our early 20's when cheap red wine was the most we could afford. It was a great way to remember our misspent youth. Our waitress brought over complimentary limoncello for two. With appetizer and main course, bottle of wine, 4 after-dinner drinks of Sambuca and Amaretto, we spent $80-90 each night. If you want to spend less, stay out of Rome and eat at McDonald's. Totally recommended and ignore the foolish haters with their childish one star reviews. These classless boors give all travellers a bad name.

Found this spot by accident since I was looking for another pizzeria. Service is good food it's not the most amazing but I only had the Pizza. My friends had the seafood lobster plate they said it was good but not on the expectations we had coming to Rome for the first time.

The food was good, but a little too saucy/oily. I got the mixed salad and the lamb. Both were good, but the lamb was doused in a little too much olive oil. The other dishes that my family members got were also doused in a little too much sauce/oil, but that was my only complaint. Overall the place was good, but there are better places that Italy has to offer.

Stumbled on this GREAT restaurant as we shopped and strolled down Via Nazionale. We were getting hungry and saw it down Via Genova. It had a really nice outdoor patio, but it was lunch time, very hot and we needed some AC, so we sat inside. They were working on the piano, but we didn't care and actually we found it very interesting. The inside was very classy, elegantly decorated and looked very upscale. There were beautiful Spanish style paintings of dancers hanging on the walls. There was a large dining room area with really good bottles of wine on every table. Ours had a bottle of chianti classico that we would have loved to drink, but it was lunch and still lots to do before dinner! There was a beautiful baby grand piano about half way down the dining room, an upright bass, and a nice vocal mic there as well. There wasn't music happening at the time, but this place was set up to be a very classy evening dinner complete with musicians playing on great sounding brand new instruments. Reading some of the Yelp reviews, it appears there are Opera Arias performed there at dinner time. I ordered a pizza that had ham, mushrooms and pepperoni. My wife ordered a margharita pizza. Both pizzas were thin crust and absolutely delicious. They tasted as good as the pictures looked! Our waiter was awesome! He was REALLY friendly, spoke very good English and was happy to help me with some of the Italian I was struggling with. He even helped me with the pronunciation of the words and we had a really nice conversation. GREAT GUY!! I wished I had gotten his name, although I did see a picture of him as I scrolled through some of the Yelp Pictures. Also worth noting: the bathrooms were very impressive! Check out my picture of the bike with the flower basket and the picture of the Creation of Adam. That is the scene outside the bathrooms in the back of the restaurant. They had toilet seats on the toilets! And it was so clean, you could eat off the floors! The faucets had this cool green light that shone on your hands as you washed them. Very slick. Oh, how I wished we would have found this in time to fit it in at night...

What a cute local restaurant nearby our hotel (Boutique Nazionale). You even get 5% off by staying there. It was a late night option after a long day of travel. But! The food was phenomenal and the service was great. Everything you'd imagine in an authentic Roman eatery including a live piano player.

Quick stop after arriving in Rome while waiting for our hotel room to be ready. Sat outside under gorgeous blue skies and had great wine and great food with great service. My wife had shrimp gnocchi with zucchini and grape tomatoes. Mine was good- mushroom risotto- but hers beat mine hands down. Had caprese to start with homemade focaccia which was easily the best we've had in Rome.

We enjoyed Da Trani. Waiter was very friendly, location was a close walk to our hotel, near the train station. Sat outside and it was a nice evening. Tight seating but ok. Food was good, came out in a timely fashion. Overall a very nice experience.

Close to our hotel and hungry after a day of travelling we took a chance here and what a result. Friendly staff that weren't going to hurry you, lots of thought and consideration to the younger members of the group and simply wonderful food! Not at all pretentious, and though not as cheap as Subway or Burger King a few minutes away this is the dining experience you visit Italian cities for. It's also quite entertaining seeing the staff adjust the music then hide the remote from their boss...

We stumbled upon this restaurant and had our favorite meal in Rome. There's a beautiful patio, and huge space inside with lots of tables and live music. The employees were extremely friendly and great at recommending some special dishes from their extensive menu. We ended up splitting the raviolini which was stuffed with spinach and cheese and smothered in the best pesto I've ever had, fresh tomatoes, and shaved pecorino. Then got the Sicilian style Tuna which was a healthy portion topped with olives, tomatoes, capers, and arugula. And finished with the recommended classic tiramisu which was huge and once again delicious. There's a ton of great wine options, and cocktails as well. Not only was the food incredible but the service was great, and there was live music all in Italian. Would highly recommend, and come hungry!

BEAUTIFUL atmosphere outside, did not visit the inside. AMAZING italian food and service. Wish I was back in Rome to enjoy thi

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

I was surprised when I read the Yelp reviews that a few of my awesome Yelpers also dined here too and gave high marks so I was very excited to give them a try. After ordering some tasty vino we went the Focaccia with mozzarella, black truffle with a truffle cream sauce. The Focaccia was lite and a thin crust. Topped with some delicious mozzarella and black truffle made this appetizer and home run choice. After the Focaccia I decided to stay on theme and went with the Fettuccine al tartufo nero e porcini (fettuccine black truffle & porcini mushrooms). Holy cow, a delicious culinary delight. Some other hits of the table included the beef fillet with green pepper sauce & Digione mustard. Astice grigliato, verdure al vapore e maionese alla curcuma (Grilled lobster with steamed veggies in a mayonnaise turmeric sauce and a Lasagna, tartufo nero, funghi, mozzarella e grana (lasagna with blach truffle, mushrooms, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese) All were just amazing. Impeccable service and an old world Italian charm decor made this a delightful experience.

When we arrived on a late afternoon, we waited about 10 minutes before getting seated. To start off, we got the Limoncello Spritz (€10) and Aperol Spritz (€10), which were refreshing. For our pasta, we ordered the Fettuccine with Oxtail (€18) and Carbonara (€17). We also wanted to order two more Secondi dishes, but the waiter warned us that the pasta is filling. After we finished the pasta, we did still order the Rabbit (€19) because it wasn't something we usually see on the menu. For the carbonara, the flavor was delicious but not really my favorite pasta shape. It was also quite al dente with a chewy texture. I have to say that the oxtail was spectacular though with its juicy and tender meat sauce. While the rabbit was nice to try once, it was a bit dry with minimal meat. Overall, good spot but nothing worth waiting too long for. Also, I'd stick to the pasta here as it's all handmade. You even see them handrolling them inside. Note that they also charge €2 per person for service fee already.

It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
