I have to say first and foremost customer service was top notch A+ from checking in and paying, to the server at the table who cleared your plates and brought you drinks . they were friendly, attentive to your needs and had a smile to acknowledge you each time! Now onto the ambience, it was a holiday Monday so they were offering the lobster for lunch For $35.00. That's a good price, but I have to say the stir fried lobsters were small and undercooked. They did have a nice flavor or coating. I had to go back and ask the gentleman/ chef to overcook me a few lobsters. Once that was done, they were much better. We stopped in this place a few days ago. We definitely visited our share of AYCE places. Ambience- bright Service- excellent Food- good variety, fresh, plenty of everything. We came on a weekday dinner and it was ok. The weekday dinner (Mon-Thurs) do not have crab legs. The sashimi pieces, steamed fish, butter shrimp were the only good options in my opinion. The onion rings were just biting into a ball of grease. I think most of the dishes were decent at most, some were greasy, or dry or soggy after being out for so long. Food quality needs to get a lot better. I would only recommend if you want a variety of food and you're nearby. Service was good. They're doing a 10% during their soft opening. Came on a Sunday around 11:45 am. Place was about half filled with patrons. The restaurant is very bright, modern and inviting. The Staff are friendly and attentive. A couple of Staff mentioned the soft opening and seemed genuinely interested in feedback about the food and service. For the soft opening (through Nov 30), the price is 5 percent off. On weekends, the adult price normally is $28.99. According to signs and Staff, lobster and crab legs are available only on weekends at the $28.99 price. I believe mid-week dinner price is $24.99. My partner and I liked the place very much. I judge Chinese restaurants in part by their hot and sour soup. This soup is tasty and, when I was finished with it, there was a residue of different herbs/spices at the bottom of my cup. This was a solid, well made soup. My partner had minced beef soup, which they said was very good. The peel and eat shrimp (head off) were carefully cleaned - like so clean I thought each had been power washed. The shrimp were large and not chewy or rubbery at all. The cocktail sauce had some kick - could have had more kick for my taste, but it's impossible to make a cocktail sauce that's perfect for everyone. Don't get me wrong, it's a tangy and very tasty cocktail sauce. I also had something I never had at a Chinese buffet before - raw oysters. I had a couple here because they looked fresh and clean. In other buffet places with raw oysters, I'm a little suspect. But something about presentation here made me feel it was ok. The oysters are large here. I had one without cocktail sauce and it was pretty flavorless. With the cocktail sauce it was very good. There was a tray with mussels and clams and squid which I didn't have, but they looked fresh and tasty. The Chinese entrees were good, pretty standard for Chinese buffet. But there were other items, like Japanese-style chicken, that was good, as well as pieces of well prepared beef, bok choy and other vegi entrees that were tasty. Onto the crabs. The whole crab was tasty, with sweet meat. (Crabs are a lot of work for me, because I'm lazy, so this comment is from my partner.). The crab legs were easy to get meat from (the restaurant didn't offer tools) and were tasty. The lobster was pre-cut sections they were difficult to get meat out of, but the meat was good. My partner said it was too much work and stuck with the crab legs. The sushi was very good. Nice presentation and good variety. Not a variety like Umi in Rockville, but a nice variety of good, solid sushi and sashimi. Again, everything seemed fresh. They were preparing sushi throughout our visit. Wasabi and soy sauce are readily available near the sushi station. For dessert, there's fruit (grapes, orange sections and pineapple), a variety of pastries and a soft serve ice cream machine. The ice cream was very smooth. Near the machine, there's chocolate sauce and sprinkles. I am impressed and think the price point on the weekends is fair, with the crab and lobster included. BTW, I'm writing this review a few hours after our meal and I feel fine. So I think I made a good call on having the raw oysters. read more

I expected this place to be in between Hibachi buffet and Umi. I am right. Basically, Umi's hot food are better than D1, while D1 has better preparation and/or quality of crab legs. I felt that the ones at Umi was not prepared well,semi frozen,stuck on shell. I would probably pick eating Hook n Reel if I want those type of boiled steamed seafood buffet. In conclusion, for the price range, I would rather go to Umi (flavor,variety) or Hook n Reel (flavor,variety,proximity)or lowest price Hibachi(flavor,proximity,price). For a precaution, I would like to add that my husband happened to get 1 fried chicken that has bloody bone. Server is attentive, pretty clean, but I've had better flavor elsewhere. I wish they had better chinese food options. The noodles, egg rolls type dishes did not look appealing. The seafood was decent. Sushi was so so as well. Inside is spacious it use to be an all you can eat sushi buffet as well that closed I guess fairly quick unfortunately that place use to be decent too. Would I go again personally? i am a stickler for a good oriental all-you-can-eat buffet, so when i saw D1 Seafood Buffet making its rounds on social media, I knew I HAD to visit and experience it for myself. The food was great, as you expect-- great Chinese food options you can get from the carryout. But what i came for was the seafood, and my God today, there was plenty of it and superior quality compared to other seafood spots and buffets I've been to in the area. i also enjoyed the sushi very much! The food is tasty. The selection of items is high end. Overall, absolutely worth the price. The buffet features snow crab legs which are moist, flavorful, and not overcooked. They serve fried lobster which was not the best I've had but really decent. They also have fairly large size maryland crabs. The sashimi is mostly salmon and some other fish. It was very fresh. Then there are all the other staples. Galbi was thick cut and smoky. The fish was light, flaky, and seasoned perfectly. The seafood selection is vast and tastefully cooked eventhough it is coming out in massive amounts. The service was friendly and there is enough seating for a large amount of people. The lighting is bright and the decor is clean and new. I liked that sounds did not carry too much so people talking around me sounded muted. I do wish they provided pickers for the king crab. Chopsticks just don't work very well for that. They will provide gloves if you ask for them. Lobster and snow crabs are only served on the weekends. The price is very reasonable and far better compared to Rockville prices. It is definitely worth a visit if you like Chinese style seafood and sashimi. The food was way below average, especially considering the inflated prices compared to other Chinese buffets. Everything was drenched in oil, making it almost inedible. What I liked: Oysters were part of the lunch buffet, which I didn't expect. Pork chop was surprisingly not dry. The baked fish were well seasoned. Neutral: the non seafood items were uninspiring. I don't have much to even comment on them. It feels like food you expect from any buffet. Regrets: seafood other than the oyster and shrimp is lacking/nonexistent. So I went on the 3rd week after their opening and it was on a Saturday. Once I walked in the host was friendly and greeted. However, they did not have lobster as they heavily promoted it. Big time negative stars. For a new buffet restaurant that just opened and also their ice cream machine wasn't working as I was told and we had to order from the waitress. I was looking all over for their ice cream machine because they only had the cups and if I didn't ask for ice cream or what happened, they would never offer me. Another issue was since they were out of lobster, they offered Peking Duck on their pancake bread. The bread was thick and there was only few pieces of Duck. Very disappointed and wasn't great. This place only had few items and the selections were not that great. The people praising it must be very happy that this is the only type of buffet in Germantown. Went there weekend, they advertise Lobster..I was there for over an hour and NO refill on LOBSTER,. If you advertise it then make sure you have it as a buffet when its gone, cook some more. All other buffets, food is refilled quickly. Soft opening so it was expected that not all the flow of service would be worked out. However the lay out of the buffet from entrance to getting the food was bit cumbersome. 1) there was a long line even though it moved, still a line that kept individuals waiting for the person(s) in front to make their choices and move on. Not good bc the buffet cannot be accessed on both sides just the one side. 2) the sushi station flanks from the main buffet line but there is a "head on collision" at the middle of the main buffet line due to line starting from the sushi station. 3) for some of the sauce, there are condiment cups but for the hot butter there wasn't one near by so had to stand in line again after looking around couple of stations to find a bowl for the butter. 4) the food is refreshed and fresh enough. 5) I took fried lobster but the meat consistency was bit off. It was mostly mushy even in the claws. So concerned whether it was fresh at time of cooking or preparation made the meat mushy. 6) tried their steak or marinaded meat and it was not seasoned well. It didn't have much of taste this was the case for few of the dishes. They need to figure out their recipes or cooking methods bc some were too bland while others were too salty. 7) wait staff appeared friendly but we were there at the busy dinner time and my requests were not met as expected. I had to make the request twice or multiple times. 8) the ambiance was loud and for some reason the parents with little kids (approx toddler - about 8 yrs) couldn't or didn't control their kids. The kids were sort of running around without supervision almost causing crash situations with the wait staff carrying multiple dirty dishes or bus staff carrying/ferrying bins of dirty dishes. 9) my table looked clean but there was spilled liquid under the napkin dispenser so kinda grossed me out. The wait or bus staff didn't thoroughly clean the dining table after each customer. 10) the floor was spic and span clean since it is a new restaurant. I would have been very concerned if the floor was greasy. I hope they get good feedback as well as evaluate so that they can make improvements to make dining enjoyable at this restaurant. Horrible place to eat. We went there on a Sunday me the wife and a friend. All of their food was super old and cold. Even after I ask them to make new food they denied us of new food. On top of that they advised us of no lobster . If thats the case why did I have to pay full price. They lucky it wasn't on my credit card or I would have definitely disputed this.
