I've been going to D/vision for a long time. When I experienced a detached retina they got me to a doctor immediately and saved my sight. I am pretty picky. Other opticians don't measure your eye properly. There are a lot of cheeper options but in my experience my complicated prescription always comes out perfect. Chicago is what I like to call "my boomerang city". I've lived there three different times, which has meant I've moved back after several cross-country moves. It's home. And, Wicker Park / East Ukrainian Village has been home off-and-on for ~15yrs. I was an early customer at D/Vision back in 2005(ish). There, I've dated myself a bit! I've purchased glasses from D/Vision each time I've lived in Chicago, and I still own every pair (I think I'm at 4+ and counting!). Dr. Park is awesome, and he's always current with using the latest and greatest technology. Their selection of frames are incredible, and I always feel I learn about a new eyewear designer when I visit the store. In fact, my husband has also become a loyal customer over the years. He has also purchased 4 pairs from D/Vision. We both have worn glasses since we were kids, and we try to buy new frames every 3-4yrs since fancy frames + special lenses ain't cheap! Customer service isn't always the best, but the location is in a popular (and busy) neighborhood, so there are always a fair number of customers in the store at any given time. We've had orders get slowed down, but for any minor issues we've experienced, the staff have always made it up to us by promptly fixing the problem. While I'm now in Oakland, CA, I still dream of buying frames from D/Vision because the selection is always so fantastic, and it's a fixture in my old 'hood. I'm sure the Bay Area has equally amazing eyewear stores, but I've not found anything as great as D/Vision. Maybe I'll splurge next time I visit Chicago :-) read more

My friend recommend D/Vision for my eye exam. I don't have eye insurance and he told me they would give me a discount for just having regular insurance, so I wanted to give it a try. It was $60 for a new glasses prescription and I am coming back for more tests I feel I need next week. The doctor and staff were so kind and accommodating. I was able to make my appt. online which for me is extremely helpful because I never remember to make appointments like this during the day and it usually comes to mind at night after places have closed. Came here on a Saturday, and it was extremely busy. It took over 20 minutes for someone to come talk to us. My husband bought his glasses here and is fairly happy with them, but there were not a lot of options for small faces. I struggle to find a pair. Also while he's happy with his glasses no one pointed out that with his high prescription The glasses were a little bit too wide and thus you can see gaps on the two sides. Really unfortunate but lesson learned - you have to know what you're doing when shopping for glasses. I'm sure there's not as much rush during the weekdays however not everyone has that kind of time - I really hope they staff up. Can't say enough good things about the people working here. Michelle, one of their newer additions is a rock star. Nice as can be, knows her stuff and as helpful and patient as they come. Larry is equally friendly and excellent as well. You can feel that the vibe in here is warm and friendly. It takes time to pick lenses, go through all the vanity and personal image / identity drama related to new frames but you'll be masterfully guided through the ordeal with honest feedback without feeling rushed or stressed. I'm not a big Yelper, so the fact that I'm taking the time to write this is kind of a big deal for me. Not only have I had to go back 3 times in order to get the prescription right, but they completely misled me about their policy on exchanging frames. This is a BAD practice!!! DO NOT GO THERE!!!! I want to give them a stone instead of a star. I had an eye infection 2 days ago so I was trying to find a doctor to have it checked. My coworker told me about this place so I called and they said that they could see me today. I went in and filled out some forms for the first time visit. I was wondering why they didn't ask me for my insurance card then the doctor called me in and checked my eye for about 5 minutes and gave me an eye drop and an eye cream. After that, I came out to the front desk and a woman told me that would be $85 dollars. I was stunned so I asked her weather they check with my insurance to see if it's covered because I gave her my social security number. She seemed surprised when I asked so she went back to her computer and tried to find me on her system. She came back and told me that she couldn't find me on her system which was a lie. My coworker and I have the same insurance so I was sure that I was covered. Then she went back to talked to the doctor, came back and told me that this is a medical exam so my insurance won't covered which was a lie again so I told her that I have a premium insurance plan which covers everything and I never have problem seeing any eye doctor. So she finally told me that they can not bill this medical exam to my vision plan since it's medical. So I said why don't you bill to my medical plan which is blue cross blue shield. She said that she can give me 20% off since it's blue cross blue shield but she can not bill to blue cross blue shield since the doctor is a optometrist, not a ophthalmologist. It all seemed very odd... I asked her why didn't she told me that before or asked me for my insurance card. She said this is like going to a emergency room so she just let me go see the doctor first which is a totally lame excuse. Any professional practice will ask for my insurance card first and the emergency room will charge to my insurance plan. Then a guy with tattoo on his left arm very rudely cut in and said that "Why didn't you ask us if we take your plan first instead, the doctor checked your eye and gave you medicine. DON'T YOU WANT THE MEDICINE" he yelled at me.....what the $x@#%$, very unprofessional. That is not the attitude to treat your customer. So I told them that I had to call my insurance and found out what should I do but the customer service was closed then they kept on telling me that I should pay them first then try to get a reimbursement from my insurance which is really weird since she had already told me that the doctor is not a ophthalmologist so they can not bill to my medical plan. I had no choice so I had to pay them. It's like a robbery. Any professional practice will not do that to their patients. They should let me know what I am getting into before charging me. Not keep trying to use a lie to cover the previous lie. VERY NASTY PEOPLE THERE. read more

I was so deprived, so longingly in need, that I came here for glasses porn and some anonymous hot optomenaytrix action. This smug little bitch came up to me in here and asked if I "needed" something and I was all like "Yeah, but I don't think you got what I'm looking for..." and he was all like "Let me show you a few things.." and I was all like "Okay, but I'm telling you I'm not that easy to please..." He showed me some weird shaped orange thingies and I was all like, "Uh-uh. I am not in my 40s yet, you are going to have to work harder than that...." And then he bust out some tortoise Oliver Peoples and I was like "Um, yeah, that's nice and all, but this is not my first time honey, and you're still not quite there..." And then, just when I had given up all hope of seeing anything worth seeing, he whipped out a pair of titanium hard, yet light as a feather gunmetal gray cat eye Mykitas on me and slid them onto my face with a cocky grin, "I think you will think these are perfect...Do you like these.." I could only stand wearing them for like six, maybe eight minutes, before he told me they were like $600 and I turned Sally-Jesse-glasses red, dropped them down on the cold glass counter and ran away, out the door and never, ever went back again. They are the best!! My wife got a frame from them and she moved to California. The frame broke suddenly. We took it to a optical store here but they weren't positive it will be covered under warranty. We weren't too certain but we mailed it back to D/Vision to give it shot. Definitely never going back here. I gave it three solid tries. This last time was so compelling and awful that I actually made a Yelp account just to address it. The first visit: my prescription was wrong and I had to come back. I have a very simple Rx, but everyone makes mistakes - no biggie. The second visit: I had to ask three different people to get my Rx on paper, and then it was written down wrong by someone who acted like it was a huge inconvenience. I later had to call by phone to get the correct Rx and they treated me like I was trying to cheat them. (Surprise: your Rx is your legal property and you are entitled to it.) But, hey, people have bad days, right? The third visit: Horrible. The staff was condescending and downright insulting. When my boyfriend tried on sunglasses, they were polite enough. When it was time for me to try on single-vision frames and they asked what I was looking for, I said I liked a specific style (wayfarer) -- usually the ones made for men. The guy brought me a few cat-eye specs. As a person with a feminine face, 'sexy secretary' is a look that I consciously avoid. I asked for others and he repeatedly brought me super-femme cat-eye frames. I put them aside, asked for a specific pair from under the glass and when I tried them on, he said, "The other ones [the cat-eye] seriously look SO much better. Those, just, no." Wow. I didn't ask for your completely inappropriate and vaguely sexist opinion. I don't think he'd have given the same line to my boyfriend and I resent the attempt to a.) make me feel insecure about my preferences and b.) hard-sell me on something I expressly rejected. When I said that I had my own taste, he then told me he didn't know what I was going for and became condescending when I described my previous frames and who made them. I quickly lost interest in their selection: I am not funding an establishment where the employees behave like this, ever. The sad part is that this entire industry is getting its legs cut out from under it by companies like Coastal and Warby Parker. When the start-ups rally, these shops will suffer huge losses. This is not how to keep clientele. I will be telling my friends to avoid this place. read more

I just picked up my third pair of glasses from D/Vision, and I continue to be impressed. Desiree helped me again, to pick out an amazing frame. She really takes her time with you, and works with your coloring and face shape to insure that you leave with just the perfect pair! If you need help in choosing just the right frame, i suggest you talk to her. Dr. Park had performed my exam again, and I found him to be patient, thorough and a good listener. My initial visit to these guys were great. Got an eye exam (with the actual correct prescription rather than all previous eye exams), so I thought things were going pretty well right off the bat. Bought a year of contacts and a pair of $600 Mykita glasses, and went on my happy merry way. After my year supply ran out, I made an appointment to get more contacts before a vacation (my last pair had ripped a day or two before my departure) but they were all booked up. I asked for a trial pair to hold me over until I came back, and they granted my wish with the exception I would make an appointment when I came back into town. I came back into town, and got immediately swamped with work, as I am a partner in a small technology business. I didn't make an immediate appointment, and continued to wear the free pair for a month or two. After that pair of contacts ripped, I called to make an appointment. Apparently they were booked that day but had openings the next day. I couldn't firm a time so I told them I would give a call the following day to schedule a time. Next day I called them, but they said the doctor had am emergency and was gone for the day. Understandable, so I asked for the next avail appointment slot. They said that would be 7 days away. I asked for another trial pair, but they declined stating there was a note on the account to not give me another trial pair. Ridiculous I said, but I offered to pay up front for the eye exam in a week provided they could give me a trial pair for my use immediately. They declined, knowing I had spent roughly $1000 with them 13 months ago. I told them that was absolutely ridiculous, and called Urban Eyecare, nearby on Milwaukee. They are great, and ran tests that no other eye care provider has ever offered or given in the past. Money initially well spent, but the joint needs serious work on customer service. Just finished my appointment with Mathew, getting to test-run my first ever contacts. He was WONDERFUL. I took way longer than I thought I would, to get the hang of it, and he was never-wavering, positive, specifically helpful every single time I tried. He was encouraging, and had good humor through it all. The office is just plain professional and super nice and helpful. Highly recommend Dr. Park, too. He's straight forward, and efficient. I think I've accidentally addressed him as Dr. Frank, and either he hasn't noticed, or he's just being very nice and hasn't corrected me. We don't live in the neighborhood anymore, but we still drive the 40 minutes to them for our glasses, etc. The frames are pricey, I will say, but they look great, they are high quality, and the office is always up for free adjustments... so you get what you pay for, I guess. I think more local shops should aim to deliver the service that D/Vision gives everyday. Their staff continues to earn my business every time I go in and it's not just while I'm in there for 15 minutes to pick up a contact refill. They've really gotten to know me and it shows. They have a wide selection of brands and fashionable frames and they always make sure that I'm satisfied with my choice. The biggest reason why their customer service is unbeatable is because almost 2 years ago when my yorkie, Winnie, was tragically killed D/Vision sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers in condolences. This touching gesture was above and beyond and I will always be a loyal customer of theirs. read more
