Date: 6/26/2025 Time: 6:45 PM 65° Sunny My male companion and I are at D Monaghan's for his birthday (73 years young). It is our first time dining here. Since he treated me to a memorable dinner for my birthday exactly seven months ago, I did likewise. Our birthdays are on the 26th, but different months (June, November). We arrive and a waiter tells us to take a seat anywhere in the restaurant. I was expecting a maitre'd or a host to escort us since my companion made reservations for dinner at 7 PM. Dining at any restaurant for the first time means I usually order an Arnold Palmer to determine whether the food is going to be tasty and delicious. The Arnold Palmer has a nice balance of lemonade and iced tea. Did the Arnold Palmer pass the test? Yes, it did (4 stars)! Eats: Starter is a beet salad consisting of spring mix greens, diced beets, thinly sliced orange, candied walnuts, diced goat cheese topped with a balsamic vinaigrette. (4 stars). I'm not even a goat cheese fan. LOL. Next up was salmon (me) and steak (birthday guy). Salmon was topped with a wine glaze and served with roasted potatoes and seasoned vegetables. Salmon was fresh and moist. Meal was on point (4 stars). Steak was a NY steak also served with the same sides. The steak was well seasoned, but it had a chewy texture...ugh gristles. My man said the steak was the wrong cut. He also felt that the sauce should have been Lea & Perrins worcestershire sauce instead of A1 sauce. (3 stars). We passed up on dessert. The description of the bread pudding with vanilla ice cream probably would have been delicious, but I was full. Service could have been better. Waiter had a nonchalant demeanor, and an average degree of attentiveness (3 stars). The ambiance is casual and comfy. We had window seats looking out to the outdoor patio. (3.5 stars). Inasmuch as I would like to have given D Monaghan's a 4 star rating, and there is no 3.5 star ratings on yelp, I had a choice of either rounding up or rounding down. In this case, I rounded it down to a three stars. In comparison to other dining venues such as Parche (uptown Oakland), Alley & Vine (Alameda), Willows & Pine (Dimond District), Angelina's Louisiana Kitchen (Berkeley), Coqueta (SF) and The Waterfront Restaurant (SF), D Monaghan's left me a certain level to be desired. Also, street parking was problematic and there was no parking spaces in their lot. By luck, my man found a parking space 1/2 a block away after searching around the corner. (2.5 stars) Future visit? Might then might not.

An extremely nice atmosphere and a very attractive menu. Location is in the cut, but this makes it more appealing. Drinks were delicious. The bar is separate from the dining area which is nice though I would've enjoyed hearing the music they were playing in the dining area but I understand Great place for couples and first dates. Or hanging out with the guys.girlfriends.

Let's just say ....me and my girls popped in for a quick sippy sip. Little did we know we were in Raider Nation (hell yeah) and were around some hella cool people! Let me break it down...........!! If you're looking for flavor, vibes, and a whole lot of Raider Nation spirit, D Monaghan's On the Hill is the spot. I stopped in and ordered the street corn ribs--and let me tell you, they were delicious, juicy, and packed with smoky goodness. A total flavor bomb. But the real MVP of the night? Tracy the bartender. She was super sweet, attentive, and brought such a warm energy to the space. Not to mention--cute as hell! She made the whole experience feel personal and fun. The crowd was everything you'd want from an Oakland hangout: friendly, lively, and pulsing with Raider pride. TVs everywhere, good music, and a laid-back lounge vibe that makes you want to stay a while. The space itself has that perfect blend of neighborhood bar meets game-day lounge--cozy enough to feel familiar, but buzzing with energy. The lighting is warm, the seating is comfortable, and the walls are decked out with sports memorabilia that gives it real character. And the menu? Loaded. From wings to sliders to creative twists like those corn ribs, there's something for every craving. You won't leave hungry--or bored. Grab a French 75 - you will not regret it!

We went here for a Thursday Night Football game. First, I was happy there were plenty of 49ers fans. That's enough for 2 stars out of the gate. Lol It's not a big sports bar. It seemed to be more a local spot - comfortable, cozy, and relaxing. It could use an update in the furniture and A/V equipment, but we had a good time nonetheless. The bar area was a little crowded, and it took a while to get our drinks. But, the bartenders and wait staff were friendly and patient. The wings were good. I only wish people cooked them longer. They weren't raw, but I like mine more well done and wasn't around when we ordered. My bad !!! This is definitely a spot I would recommend and return to. My next visit, though, would be a normal Friday or Saturday night. It, maybe a Sunday to see how they handle games then. Until next time ......

Celebrated our anniversary dinner here. We shared a Caesar salad. Hubby had the fried catfish, broccoli and mashed potatoes. Washed it down with lemonade. I had the chicken masala, mixed veggies and mashed potatoes. Had a Guinness which I hadn't had in a longggg time. We enjoyed our hot entrees and even had enough for lunch the next day. Desserts? We opted to pass as we were full to the hilt. We'll be back soon to try out something else. Yummilicious Private parking park & off-street parking.

Attended this black owned fine establishment to celebrate the owners birthday. We enjoyed margaritas, shots of tequila and modeloes. The DJ was excellent. Several different entertainment areas. Great place to watch sports too.

Never knew this place was here even tho I been next door at round table a million times. Had drinks and late lunch with my friend and really enjoyed the environment. I liked the catfish more than the pork chops, but both were good. We got there during happy hour so it got busy pretty fast. The bartender was sweet and attentive. I will return to try other items on the menu

Stopped by D Monaghan's right after work to check it out. I've always been curious about this place and when I discovered it was Black-owned, I made sure I went. I love the location, the ambiance is amazing, the decor is nice. I sat outside and the weather was perfect, so was the patio vibe. The service was excellent, my server was attentive but not pushy. The food was just incredible. The Buffalo Cauliflower was extremely flavorful, that great buffalo wing spice with a perfectly cooked cauliflower texture. The mojito was good as well. Let's just say a very generous portion of alcohol with the minty flavor was right on point. Though I only ordered an appetizer and drink, it was enough to make me want to return. I will be back for a full meal and cannot wait.

Our waiter was attentive - when asked he gave his favorites - and they did not disappoint. He was "Spot On"! We started our food journey with the Crab Empanadas - followed with one of the best Sea Bass entrées we've ever had. (The fish melts in your mouth w/ a sweet Asian fusion taste). The Chocolate cake was the perfect way to end our night. A must try when you go to Tiburon! P.s. after our meal we took a stroll and enjoyed the bay views. You may want to plan that in :)

Service was fairly attentive - there was only one slight hiccup with one entree not coming out until around 5 minutes after everyone's dish so we had to wait. Pretty good selection of signature cocktails. The Liquid Gold was refreshing and not that strong. As for the food, we got the tartare, crab empanada, bungalow Benedict, and the phyllo crusted pork chop. The tartare was fresh and not fishy at all, but was missing some salt. Crab empanada was great. The cilantro avocado puree and aioli complemented the crab well. Eggs Benedict was standard. It was nice that it came with a model bakery English muffin, but nothing stood out. Pork chop was fried very well. Crispy exterior but soft inside. It was a pretty hefty cut as well. I expected more from the taverna fries but it seemed like standard frozen fries. The chimichurri sauce was good but had an aioli texture, which was weird but still good taste wise. To end, the butterscotch budino was fairly light and had a good sweetness. All in all, the lunch was still enjoyable especially with the view. I do wish there was that wow factor in some of the dishes to better match the price.

It's a longtime local favorite of mine and my go-to spot for meeting up with friends--equal parts escape and comfort. The cocktail menu is impressively deep, full of beautifully crafted, fancy tiki drinks that practically beg to be explored, and so far every single one I've tried has been delicious (dangerously so). Inside, the bar nails the classic tiki vibe--warm, immersive, and transportive--while the outdoor patio offers a lovely, relaxed option with plenty of extra seating on warm days. It's the kind of place where you can linger, laugh, and lose track of time. The staff deserve a special shout-out: genuinely friendly, attentive, and accommodating, which only adds to the overall experience. A quick pro tip: if you're planning to stop by during popular after-work hours, definitely make a reservation--it fills up for good reason. The food menu is on the smaller side, but the bites are tasty and thoughtfully done, perfect for sharing alongside a round (or two) of cocktails. All in all, Forbidden Island is a standout spot that keeps me coming back again and again.

Service was really prompt and friendly. The food was great we ordered all the classics such as the tater tots and the cucumbers, and we also got the salt and pepper wings, and the special mapo tofu. There are also extensive cocktails on the menu running at $16-$20 each, which is expected for the creativity and expert craftsmanship of each cocktail. They have a large number of cocktails that are special and seasonal, and then their classics on the bottom. Technically, we got to try it out the week after, but they extended their menu for the week after. We came that Sunday evening. Parking can be a bit of a hassle because it is indeed Downtown Oakland. Your whole party has to get the Restaurant Week Menu. So we all got their: Aperitif Cocktail - Tomato Beef or Purely Passion (Non Alcoholic) I got the Purely Passion. Good, nothing to write home about. Umami Tots This was really good! Very Crispy. Chili Cucumbers This one was actually really good. Szechuan Salt and Pepper Wings Good, but maybe too crispy? Wings are always good but this one didn't stand out for me. Mango Sorbet (They changed this from the Apple Sorbet that day) My favorite of the whole night. I usually don't like sorbet but this one was soft and easy to eat and has like a creamy like texture? Trying this made me want to try their other dessert item. We also ordered 2 add ons - the Hojicha Miso Tiramisu and the Korean Mapo Tofu. Hojicha Miso Tiramisu was OK. It contained too much alcohol for all of us and was bitter. Disappointing. I liked the Mapo Tofu! I liked that it was Crispy and that it came with rice. Drinks wise, my friends also got to try the Tomato Beef and White Rabbit. I don't really drink alcohol so I just sipped a bit. Tomato Beef was too alcoholic for me, couldn't really taste the tomato or the beef, but I could see what White Rabbit was going for. Overall, I'm really impressed by the food. I usually think Bar Food isn't very good, but this blew me away. Drinks are OK.
