I say this because we honestly weren't sure if their seafood cioppino would be any good given the majority of their menu featured Vietnamese dishes. Interesting combination. Like Fisherman's Wharf merged with a Pho restaurant. You can get your oysters and deviled eggs and bahn mi sandwiches here. For realz, look at the menu. Anyways I liked my cioppino. Didn't have a lot of seafood but the flavor profile was spot on and the garlic bread was decent. It all started in 2001 when I took a ride on my new bike and Istumbled across this cool little place once called LJ Quinns Lighthouse, found the upstairs outdoor patio and it was just the coolest place to hang out, grab a bite and brew with a view!! I then started going there all the time..bringing my co-workers, friends and family any chance I could get. Driving from Fremont wasn't too far of a trek as it was worth the drive every time! What once was an amazing Ciopinno that came in a little iron skillet to this burger that opened my mind to different meats, the Bison Burger!! Then the amazing penko fish n chips with the awesome slaw and dressing! They would always bring me extra dressing sauce as they knew I was a fan!! The Baby Lobster Pasta! No it wasn't real lobster, it was langoustine, but still awesome!! Not the mention the salads they had!! then the brews!! A page long of beers from local to Germany!! My go to was usually the Racer5, but then a good ol' Sneijder Weise was a cool option too!! I have been allergic to peanuts and they used to have them for free at your tables! Thank goodness I didn't get sick unless I ate them, so it was always cool for me to go there. Staff was always awesome and one of my favorites servers would let my daughter use his personal Cholula hot sauce!! (trying to remember his name). Everyone always made you feel welcomed. The was another server back in that day named Chuy was a cool cat too!! We had birthday parties there and many times I just drove up for a quick meal and views as it was a favorite spot especially for my daughter and I being a single dad back then, was our cool hang out spot. Well then came the news that it was closing... I was able to go the Friday prior to them closing to enjoy one last time. Sad day!! Then some time past and a friend sent me a message that they would be opening back up and I was thinking heck yes!! My mother ended up going there before I had a chance to and she let me know that it had changed.... I really wasn't interested and it was just a few months ago I was in the area and decided to drop in....well, right when I walked up I was not sure if they were even open!! Well, the door was unlocked so we went in... headed upstairs and it was a ghost town!!! I couldn't believe it...I have never seen this place ever like this before...ever! I was just about to change my mind and leave but by buddy said lets just grab a snack and a beverage, so we ended up staying. My mother used to take me to Quinns as a teenager and I always thought the food was fresh and delicious. I hadn't been to Quinn's in about15 years. My daughter and I went there last week for dinner in memory of my mother and the restaurant was a big disappointment. The entire bottom floor was dark with no one downstairs seating. We saw a sign directing us to the top floor and there was NO ONE in the dining area at 6:30 pm. There was one person at the bar and it smelled dirty inside. A waitress gave us our menu and the old Quinns menu was not the same. Half the menu is now Vietnamese food. I like Vietnamese food, but that is not why I went to Quinns. Our seafood pasta dishes arrived and the food was disappointing especially in light of the expensive prices. My daughter wouldn't eat the mussels because they all still had the beard or foot attached which is tough and wiry. A real turn off. The cream sauce was super bland even with us adding salt and pepper. When we went to leave, I used the downstairs bathroom and it was filty. The cioppino was great and delicious. My Arnold Palmer was refreshing. Thereafter, Quinn's Lighthouse closed. I'm not sure when they opened with this new ownership. Prior to entering this restaurant, I perused the menu on this site to see what they had to offer. Some of the menus posted were from a year ago. The grilled salmon with rice and veggies looked appealing. I can go for that entree. The price seemed reasonable. However, upon arrival at the restaurant and after perusing the menu, the grilled salmon entree was no longer available. I'm disappointed. When I had my heart set on a certain item and it was not on the menu, my deciding what to order took a bit longer. Since this dining experience was a date night with my male companion, I kept glancing at the menu over and over again. I finally told the restaurant employee just bring me the vermicelli bowl with grilled chicken, two tiny egg rolls and the usual items of lettuce, bean sprouts, sliced cucumber, and an Arnold Palmer. My companion had the whole carp with rice and salad. He asked for Louisiana hot sauce. The owner brought out Tabasco sauce. (Uh, no thank you.) I usually order Arnold Palmers as a taste test to determine if the quality of food would be tasty and to my palate. Did the Arnold Palmer pass the test? Barely. I had better Arnold Palmers elsewhere. AAMOF, the previous owner's Arnold Palmer was much better and had a nice balance of lemonade and iced tea. The current one was meh. The lemonade overwhelmed the tea, weakening the strength of the tea. The vermicelli bowl was okay, except I did not ask for two shrimps added as a meat along with the grilled chicken. One bite of the shrimp was tough. Me thinks the shrimps were cooked too long. I have no complaints about the service. The drawback is the pub is not handicap accessible. The restaurant on the first floor is closed in the evening. The pub is on the second floor. My male companion and I are in our 70's. Climbing up the stairs was problematic for me, as I have sciatica issue. If one is elderly, better hold onto the rail heading downstairs to exit the restaurant. According to the owner, the restaurant on the lower level is for events such as birthday parties and other celebratory occasions. Return visits: might, then might not. In my book, it is a hit or miss. I have downgraded the rating from a four star to a three star, which I believe is reasonable and fair. read more

Parking is on the street, and it's a little walk to the restaurant (not bad! just setting expectations that you can't pull up to the door). I ordered the Seafood Linguine and a cocktail. The linguine was *chefs kiss*. Sauce made fresh & flavorful, you can taste the freshness. Comes with prawns, mussels, clams and a type of fish that was so flavorful!! I caught myself doing the happy food dance three times. I cannot stress enough that this was super fresh and flavor was on point. not too salty or cheesy or watery. Nothing overcooked, the clams and mussels were just right! Clams are easy to be tough but they tasted clean and fresh. Good portion! This place has been around a while. Came on a cold rainy night and was looking for pho but no, they don't have pho but they have Vietnamese sandwiches, rice plates and vermicelli noodles along with American food. Vinka, the manager was very friendly and energetic. Ambiance is the same as before. Looks like the old Quinn's Lighthouse. Hubs ordered the garlic noodles with shaken beef and I had the combo rice plate with fried egg, egg cake, fried eggroll and grilled pork and shrimp with salad. Quinn's Lighthouse is on the Oakland Embarcadero, right along the estuary and across from the Alameda Coast Guard island. We decided to check it out as we were intrigued by the concept of a waterview marine-themed seafood restaurant that also offers Vietnamnese food on its menu. Parking is along the street, and you walk across a charming garden in front of the restaurant to get to the entrance. On a Sunday noon we were directed upstair and given a choice to dine inside or out on the patio with a nice view of the harbor. We decided on the outdoor patio. Apparently the Vietnamnese menu was added by the new owner after the restaurant changed hands over a year ago. However, many of the favorite seafood specialties from the old restaurant were retained. We looked over the Vietnamnese menu and decided to try a few dishes that were not typical in a traditional Vietnamnese restaurant. I had the Banh Mi Chao. This was an up-market version of a traditional Vietnamese breakfast dish, comprised of a large toasted baguette, and a skillet filled with two sunny side up eggs, some Vietnamese ham, filet mignon beef cubes cooked with scallions, and a Vietnamese meat ball. The warm toasted baguette dipped in the gooey sunny side eggs and soaked with the juices from the filet mignon was very comforting and satisfying. It really hit the spot for me. There was also a small side dish of salad with a light and sweet citrus vinaigrette and that was very complimentary and helped to clean the palette. My wife had the filet mignon pho noodle. The broth was not like the beef pho you may be used to at a traditional Vietnamese Pho place. This was creamy like some Thai noodles using coconut milk. The filet mignon came in a separate plate and were raw fillets drizzled with some kind of light oil and top with scallions and herbs. The raw fillets get cooked in the hot broth as you put them in the noodle. However, as we were sitting outside, the noodle broth cooled quicker so we ended up with leftover raw fillets that we decided to take home. For appetizers we ordered the salt and pepper shrimps. These were generous portions of plump shrimps laid on top of fresh greens and sliced green chili pepper. We drizzled lemon juice on the shrimp and they were succulent and delicious. Our server also provided bottles of ranch dressing (one white and one pink) should we decided to have other dipping sauces. Our server was pleasant, but checked on us kind of late, just before we were finishing, and forgot about the hot tea we ordered. That was the only snafu we encountered. We got filet mignon pho, seafood pasta, spaghetti, a banh mi, & some appetizers. The two seafood apps were a little extra fishy tasting, but we were excited about the rest. The banh mi and pho meat were gamy as hell. The seafood pasta was also extra fishy and otherwise flavorless. From the confused menu to the apathetic service to the worst appetizers and entrees I have had in a very long time. Everything tasted off and gamey, like it was expired. The audacity to charge $17 for 3 deviled eggs as an appetizer is beyond me. Nothing had seasoning, everything was wrong, disgusting and overpriced. Quinn's Lighthouse. A decades old Restaurant that has changed to a Vietnamese restaurant. Their menu is 95% Vietnamese and actually has Hamburger and Fries. The Ribeye Steak (I ordered) was a disappointment. My order came out at 4:21pm and my Girlfriend order came out at 4:32pm I'm not sure what is going on but it looks like they are having some issues with coordinating delivery to the table. None of the tables had Napkins. I actually had to ask for them. The Menu and photos on Yelp are the old version of the restaurant and so are the Food items. So we are back. This place changed hands a couple of years ago and went more Vietnamese cuisine while still keeping some of the best of Quinn's menu selections from before. Still has most of not all the memorabilia on the walls and ceiling. The deck is still happening as is the upstairs bar. We had the mussels and clams. Slightly different presentation but still great. This place is super cute! There is even a band that sings sea shanties! I'd been wanting to try it for years. On Friday evening, July 12th my friend and I visited. It was clean and didn't have that stale beer odor most bars have. We went upstairs and out to the deck for our meal. We had a ton of fun. We had a beautiful view! Service was lovely for the first 2/3rd of our experience. Then our waitress seemed to be deliberately ignoring us. One of us is in IT. One of us manages corporate events. I won't say which is which . You never know what patron could want to buy out your restaurant for a night but I digress. We were both wearing nice dresses. Do order: Calamari -- get two orders and enjoy the exquisite salt & pepper blend fresh spring rolls Roy Rogers Thai Iced Tea/Vietnamese coffee Do NOT order: Black forest cake House white wine French fries -- never appeared Oysters The oysters were "creamy?" The texture was wrong. We ordered 6. I ate one successfully and my friend ate one. She attempted a second but no dice. We had to send them back. Ultimately, we've spent the weekend dealing with the oysters. We saw someone else eat oysters. Maybe she was fine. Maybe we got 'vintage' oysters. This is not fun. Sooo. Yeah. Just don't come here until they make some major changes to their food quality, cleanliness, and their customer service. The stairs and floor are dirty. The place was super slow so there's definitely time for staff to do some cleaning. The calamari portions and taste were a disappointment. The cheeseburgers were just bad. I would say that if you're not going to focus on improving your kitchen by maybe focusing on less menu items and their quality then just don't offer food and just offer drinks. Well, I have been working across the street from this restaurant for over 15 years. There's not much in the immediate area and Monday was definitely not my first time eating there. Honestly you almost think you're entering an upscale establishment. It's on the Oakland Estuary... boats line the bay line on both sides of the restaurant. Years ago they used to have peanut shells on the floor lol. They deck seemed appealing so I decided to have me and my daughter dine in the evening sun. We had the fried oysters for an appetizer- 5 stars She ordered the blackened catfish and I had one of the daily specials- open face crab salad sandwich with fries. Ok... the catfish portion was huge, well flavored however very wet. Usually this dish is seared more... and she described her sides as ok. Mines... tooooo much bread. The palm-size portion of crab salad that was a little too wet with dressing presented on a French roll with American cheese-yikes!!! My shoestring fries were moderately warm. I took most of my meal home- minus the toasted French roll. I did remix the crab the next morning into a omelette. I'm not going to completely waste my money lol! My daughter took half of her fish home. Overall a decent experience for $90 with tax and that's with dessert. I just spent $200 on dinner with my sister last week so this is a bargain. I got Chapeno, which was savory delicious lightly spicy with a Vietnamese take on the Italian recipe. Side of fries, crispy, and delicious and soft inside. Wife had the tofu garlic noodles. I hadn't been to Quinns lighthouse since before the pandemic. At that time it was busy. People in the lower dining room, the upstairs bar, outside and the upper eating area full. Last week we were in the area and I told my husband we should go and eat. We should have turned around and walked out when we seen that it was dead. Dining room not opened. 2 couples out side having drinks, 1 couple at bar watching game and us, "4". Order consisted of 2 overly cooked hamburgers, 1 pork belly sandwich which my husband said there was hardly any meat. My fish & chips were just okay although the fish was not as firm as it should have been. I thought it was going to be a fish restaurant although they seem to have more Vietnamese food on the menu. I first came here with my father in the 1980s. The old building, the view, and the food was great--but it was the music that I loved the most. I'd beg my dad to take me to see "the singing sailors". Fast forward to this year when new owners took over and the sea shanties returned on Thursday nights. I'd bring my friends and we'd all have the best time. The food was "meh" but the beer and music were always great. Then we were told that the shanties would be every other Thursday... One night the owner showed up drunk with a similar story to mine: coming there as a kid and loving the sea shanty group but adding "now I own the place" and kissing all of the band members he could. I found this encouraging but alas.....the sea shanty guys were just given the boot! After 40+ years of tradition....I now have no reason to return to Quinn's and will tell my friends to avoid this place that doesn't respect its own history and doesn't want to pay the musicians that have been a part of it for as long as anyone can remember. I must add to this review: one waitress here was very kind, but complained about how the patrons needed to buy less food and more alcohol. "When the people buy food," she said, "we have to go to the store and buy more. It's a hassle and we don't make any money. We make money from alcohol so we want to have more DJ nights." I was hoping for better at the rebranding and reopening of this place. It opened up last March under new management within more of a Vietnamese style while keeping some of the traditional dishes. Came on a Wednesday evening around 7:00 p.m. there are two other diners however, there were six people at the bar extremely loud/ rowdy and drunk which caused the done-in experience to be not that great. I ordered the prawn fettuccine alfredo and that was good, not delicious. Ordered the jambalaya and that was good. And my friend ordered seafood pasta special. She said it was just okay. Finally Quinn's has capable ownership. Immediate vibe change from last time I was here and new menu with new owners. Came here for a quick banh mi to go. Super attentive staff (unlike past), saw them doing a birthday slice for a family sitting down (doubt old owners would ever do that). Place is much cleaner and it feels safe to eat here finally. Grilled pork banh mi hit the spot. Excited to try some of the new seafood things on the menu and actually bring people here. Kudos to new staff and ownership. I will be back. read more

I decided to go by Quinn's Lighthouse for an after work drink and appetizer and I'm grateful I did. First off the restaurant is super cute with phenomenal views. I walked in to 80's music and knew I found the right spot. I LOVE 80's music!!! Even though there was music and a lot of people talking, my experience felt peaceful. I ordered the wings and was surprised over how fast they came out. Normally, that concerns me because I like my food freshly prepared and I know that takes time, but the wings were incredible. Just the right spice and good texture. The were just delicious! The wine was good and the service was excellent. My server was pleasant, very nice and efficient. I can't tell whether I liked the vibe or view more. I honestly felt like I was in a multicultural Cheers, which makes me want to return. I'm looking forward going back for a full meal. read more
