    The living room area
    Kendra K.

Let me start off on a positive... the staff was very friendly! Noah worked the front desk on the day I checked in as well as the morning of check out. He was engaging, kind and very helpful. The hotel states (inside on the elevator) that it's under renovation. I'm not sure how long that's been there or what work they've done so far. The front lobby is cute and clean. The elevator is large but slow and there is only one for all (5? 6?) floors. The first room I had was booked for a king suite. It was ugly and odd to say the least. The bed mattress was warped, there was no desk, 2 arm chairs facing the bed, no closet and the bathroom opened right into the main area. I called down to asked to be moved, thank goodness they accommodated. The second room was giving "assisted living facility". The rugs were crunchy and stiff .. a little sticky, felt like they haven't been cleaned since they laid them. The furniture is old and very out of date. The layout was much better in this room and I loved the electric fireplace. Though sitting on the couch was 0/10. 4 poster bed .. again, armchair pointing directly at it which was weird. There was someone else's trash under the bed and a dead spider under the blanket. The restaurant was closed the night I was there, but there was an option to order 4 different plates to be sent to the room and the price wasn't terrible. I didn't get food because I had dinner plans in a nearby town. I did snag a SMALL (like 25 cent bag) of chips for $3.00!!!! from the only vending machine on the 3rd floor. Please note, that price is insanely expensive, all the items were tiny and apparently everything costs $3 (one can of soda, a small thing of skittles etc). Giant ripoff. The hotel is in a great location and could be awesome with renovations. The one positive was the front desk guy Noah. Probably wouldn't return if I'm back in the area for work but for the price it wasn't terrible.

I can't wait to plan another night out in the Northampton area so we don't have a long drive home,.. and can stay at a great place that makes an overnight like a mini vacation.

I had a serious unresolved booking problem there for my intended stay August 9-12, 2024. At check-in I was told, in sequence, "4 rooms left," then "2 rooms left," and finally "no rooms left" for any part of my intended stay. The sequence of having been told 4, then 2, then no rooms left was especially frustrating and seemed to me retaliatory for my mild expression of dismay, consternation, and frustration. My daughters and I arrived late from Logan Airport due to Debby weather, delayed rental car, and rain on the turnpike. We were attending my parents' funeral on the 10th. I understand that all people aren't going to be best friends; however, this night manager showed zero empathy. And worse, with the cockamamie room "countdown," I felt the manager exhibited personal animus. We stayed at an alternative--a nearby Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott--which we booked ourselves. Even so, on August 12, I received from Homewood Suites by Hilton an invoice and a paid receipt for all nights of the stay, August 9, 10, and 11. The only time spent at Homewood Suites by Hilton was in the lobby at 4 a.m. with the vindictive night manager counting down "4 rooms left," then "2 rooms left," and finally "no rooms left."

Secondly, the wall paper was peeling off both in the room and in the bathroom. Third, the bathroom was not clean. The tub was disgusting. There was hair left around the room and we were a little nervous to sleep in the beds. Breakfast was included and standard continental offerings - make your own waffles, some form of scrambled egg, breakfast meats and usually a steamed packaged item, cereals, yogurts, granola and oatmeal with assorted juices and coffee that was so bad I spit it out. I sat in the lobby that morning and listened to how they handled various customer issues. They are very responsive and professional. I would only suggest that housekeeping be more proactive. The food was delicious. We did a breakfast buffet. Since I am vegan, Willits made me my own vegan entree without hesitation (my mother let them know in advance.) Normally, when traditional restaurants make me a vegan option, it's not that great. But Willits made me a really delicious tofu scramble, and I was happily surprised by how good it was. My mother told me that Jennifer, Assistant Director of Conference and Event Services at Willits, was extremely helpful and stayed in contact with her throughout the planning. We also had my bridal shower there ten years prior, so it felt really special to have my baby shower there, too. It's a beautiful venue. Not to mention, one whole wall is glass and overlooks the gorgeous lake and campus. Thank you, Willits, for providing such a beautiful space for a memory we will cherish.

We expected to be in the main building and were disappointed to be placed in the Gothic Garden out building. The first room we were in had a broken air conditioner and the temperature of the room was 78. After speaking to the staff a man in a suit with a walkie talkie came over. He tried but failed to open a window and poked at something on the air conditioner unit. Nothing changed and about 3 hours later, I went to the main building to report it. Amazingly, they had a room upstairs. The air conditioner worked in this room, however it was fighting with the 78 degree temperature and went on for 20 minutes then off for 20 minutes repeating this cycle all night. It would have been ok if it didn't sound like a jet engine at the foot of the bed. And the mattress was so pillowy that you couldn't move once on it.
