Ewwww..... dust and hair clinging to the bathroom vent!
    Margot D.

Stayed for two nights while attending a wedding in Amherst: the "good" is that there are not too many pet-friendly hotels in the Amherst area, and this is right off the Mass Pike. The two ladies working breakfast on Saturday morning were very nice, and breakfast people need a lot of patience for those guests who act as if they have not seen food in a month. So why the two-star rating? Cleanliness of the bathroom (and a few other things here and there) does it for me, and looking up to see dust stuck on the vent and hair dangling down is not anywhere near paying attention to clean! Seriously, vacuum and wash the vents....

We're staying for the long weekend and booked a "1 Bedroom suite, King Bed". On the website, the picture shown for the suite that has an oven in the kitchenette and listed under amenities is "oven". They should really change that to say "ovens available in select suites". If I didn't feel so strongly about the importance of accuracy in advertising, I would give them a 4 or 5 star rating, but I feel the way these suites are advertised is misleading and a little dishonest. We questioned the front desk staff immediately upon arrival in the suite, who was very nice and professional but explained to us that not all of the king 1 bedroom suites had full ovens in them (some only have rangetops). So if this is something you prefer, I would explicitly request it, or maybe call ahead and ask if the suite you'll be staying in has one. The front desk staff said that the suites with full ovens are being used for longer term stays (we only stayed 3 nights). Additionally, I would say, unrelated to any fault of the hotel, noise level is really determined by the guests staying in the hotel. Around 9 or 10 p.m. we heard a series of loud thumps and stomps overhead loud enough to be heard over the television, so whoever was in the suite on the next floor up was a bit of a loud guest. We could hear people (mostly kids) being loud in the hallways in the morning and evening (but for the most part nothing disrupted our sleep from inside the bedroom. Their morning menu is not listed on the website, and is standard, not exceptional, not substandard (vegans beware). We mostly plan to prepare our own food in our kitchenette, so this shouldn't be an issue. The front desk attendant informed us that the pool is indeed open now, which was a nice surprise because I'm pretty sure the website says it's still closed. The shower water pressure never fluctuated and was good, but there were a few instances of random temperature variances (I imagine when other people nearby may be turning their water on and off). not really a problem. The appearance of the suite was nice and clean, the kitchen is new looking. The bed was pretty comfortable. I would say that the sign they give you to put on the door was a bit more ambiguous than the signs that used to be used in hotels/motels. "Do not disturb" and "maid service please" (or something similar) is now "Later please, I'm enjoying the space" or "All set, my suite is good for the day". I bring this up because housekeeping service previously interpreted as intrusive has been brought up in other reviews, and I think it's possible that there may be some confusion about when to use which side of the sign and what will happen if you don't put it up at all. In our case, we didn't put a sign up, not expecting anything to happen, and while we were having coffee, heard the door knocked on and then one of the housekeepers began to come in (maybe thinking we were gone). Perhaps there should be more coordination between the front desk and housekeeping about which suites are occupied and which have been vacated. Or perhaps the default shouldn't be housekeeping expecting to have to come in and clean unless there's a sign on the door, but instead, the reverse; (to not come in unless there is a sign on the door requesting them to come in). So in short, I was disappointed about the lack of oven, but pretty much everything else was adequate, reasonable and nice. This is a dog friendly hotel, so I'm hoping to run into a few furry friends around the place.

The hotel is brand-new and looks it! I really like the outdoor patio area with gas fire pit! The pool and hot tub are indoor and kept clean. I surprised to see a little outdoor basketball court also! Like all Marriott brands the beds are the most in the industry. Complimentary Wi-fi & breakfast is always a plus !!!

Great rooms with kitchen and studio area.

Beautiful hotel with great rooms and very cozy for extended stays. Breakfast is great and everyone is very accommodating and nice. Everything is extremely clean and very up to date. Housekeepers clean your room and it looks new every day. Marriott always has a great product and this property doesn't disappoint. Kitchen & studio make it feel like home.

There's a full (complimentary) breakfast buffet with lots of great hot options (sausage, oatmeal, eggs, French toast etc.) The pool is also great.

Checking in, we asked for our free water and was handed two bottles and a snack in a paper bag. The room card worked for checking out the pool, but not the Fitness Center or Laundry Room. Seems they're trying to convert their guests to using the app, but I wasn't interested. The room was basic. Two beds, a desk area, a ledge on which was set the flat screen tv which doubled as a mirror for us. Mini fridge, and open clothing hanging area, additional wall hangers perfect for 3 to use for a jacket and a mask or purse. The hair dryer hung in the bathroom in a cloth bag. No more mini bottles, as they had soap and lotions dispensers attached to the wall (sadly empty, as they weren't see through, which makes the staff guess at when to refill). The shower glass was completely see through, however, which causes trouble for friends sharing a room who just don't feel comfortable being THAT intimate. The courtesy breakfast was pretty good though. The star was the pancake maker, which poured out batter at the wave of a hand to cook them up fresh as it travelled along the conveyor belt. There was also warm oatmeal to be enjoyed with the optional accompaniments: brown sugar, dried cranberries, sliced almonds. I spotted individual yogurts and milk that I poured in a mini fridge. We had scrambled eggs and sausages sitting in heating trays that were refilled by the lady manning the breakfast station as we dined. There was also bread and bagels available for toasting, and I spotted a microwave we could access if needed. We took advantage of the option to check out online once the car was packed for our departure. Nothing grand, but it was sufficient for our needs.

It was about midnight on a Saturday and we called about 20 different places before hitting the jackpot (*cough*) with the Econo-Lodge. On the plus side, they are located right off the Pike, and was easy to find. We parked the car, and walked in. The hallways smelled like cat piss, and the room was tidy. For the first night way from the baby, I slept like a log... probably because I was exhausted, and not because it was cozy. The man showered the next morning (I decided to wait until we got home). Got all the way home, and he realized he left his chain behind. We called about a dozen times... they couldn't find it. Which translates into someone couldn't find it..... In their own pocket. *sigh* Whatever. Now I know what to get him for Christmas.

The bad: It's kinda a dumpy, frumpy, funky smelling place. Wouldn't describe it as scary... but yeah, not cozy either. Don't stay here if you can afford better, seriously. Certainly don't stay here if it's more than one or two nights. Beds are hard. Hotel runs out of hot water some mornings. Smells like mold. There's a hotel employee who sits in the breakfast room every morning staring at people eat. I think he's there to make sure no one "steals" breakfast food. Creepy.
