Booked a stay here for our Quabbin fishing trip. It was the closest place to the Q that didn't house migrants so we gave it a shot. It is...well...ugg...I'm trying not to be too harsh... It's not the worst place we've stayed, but nowhere near the best. Adequate? Sure I guess. It's a place to sleep who's prime is well behind it. Single level living, small clean and surprisingly quiet rooms and a big mowed green area behind it with a lazy river (that holds fish) beyond that. Our room was well past tired. Peeling wall finishes, rusty bathroom drains, marks and dents on the walls. I don't mind old, but old and run down are something else and this motel is pushing that line pretty hard. There is absolutely nothing to do in the area unless you get in the car for a half hour so thankfully the TV worked. We didn't try the WiFi but had a pretty reasonable cell signal. Bed and pillows were comfortable and clean. The towels were think and scratchy. The office which is supposed to be warm and welcoming is cluttered to the point of being stifling. The owner seemed nice but I don't think that is enough. Oddly enough I would stay there again but only for lack of something better. read more

This motel is not very nice but convenient to family in the area. I recently cancelled a reservation a week in advance and they still charged me $132 for the room. When I called on it, the manager told me I did not cancel the reservation which is an absolute lie! There are other places to stay within 15 minutes of this location. Their rates are absurd for what they offer. read more

Stayed here for one night for an event in northhampton. It was the closest we could get at the time. I will be honest and say when first pulling in it does not look like a great place. There are no windows on the street side. Just doors. Looked run down. But we were pleasantly surprised when we entered our room. First the rooms are nothing extraordinary. This is a cheaper base motel. We paid less than 100 for the night. But they were clean, floor to ceiling clean. I noticed because the room has a sloped rafter ceiling and there wasn't a single cobweb or bug in sight. And i realized someone mist take the time to clean them. So the rooms are clean, beds comfortable enough and pillows ok. I brought my own as usual. Big picture window in the back facing the river so plenty of light. And a second door for going out the back if you want to take a walk down to the water. The bathroom is small but the whole wall is mirrored with another large well lit mirror in the room. And the shower was hot hot hot through two people. The only thing i didn't enjoy was the shower head was more of a mist than a spray. The host was pleasant and check in went fast. We did have to get ice before 11 because the ice is located in the main office which shuts down at 11. So bring your own or get it before bed if you need it. This was not what i expected and it turned out it was a very decent place to stay last minute. Would stay there again while in the area. read more

The front desk person (Indian lady) had her cleaning lady open the door without knocking, in the early morning before 11am check out, and she was about to walk inside when I said hey we are still here. I asked who she was was and she said housekeeping and she was sent from the front desk lady. Then we didn't realize the time and the housekeeping came over again and when we opened the door she literally yelled at me and was acting very unprofessional and nasty towards me in front of my little boy. The service there is bad and the people are quite literally rude. read more

Since my last review of the Copper Lantern, I have been contacted by the owner, who turns out not to actually be the narrow-minded provincial bigot that I thought she was (the actual bigot appears to have been the person in the next room to our friends - the owner had not checked our friends in, and had no idea who they were or what they looked like). She responded in a most civilized and reasonable manner to my harsh criticism of her establishment, thanked me for my feedback and proposed to make changes. Most importantly, she has taken decisive steps to 1) make financial restitution to our friend who was charged for another patron's room, by refunding both the cost of his own room and the extra charge. 2) Meet with local law enforcement about the practice of calling all the surrounding enforcement agencies for backup resulting in four cruisers rolling up with lights flashing and a veritable army of backup to respond to a call about folks talking too loud in their room late at night. She has respectfully asked them to please confine their enquiries to determining whether anyone is under age or up to other illegal activities and making a request to quiet down or end the festivities. 3) She has personally promised me that she will return to a practice of at least calling and giving people an opportunity to cut out their shenanigans before calling the cops. I was most impressed with her willingness to accept criticism, admit error, and make amends. I take back my snarky comments made in haste and anger. It's really a rather pleasant little motel in many ways...even without the coffee pot. After all, Dunkin' Donuts is right down the road. read more

DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE FOR ANY REASON. I stayed there with several friends for my wedding and they called the cops because there was talking in one of our rooms after 10pm. We are not teenagers. I am personally in my fifties for Pete's sake. For some reason, their solution for this "talking and laughing problem" was to have four cop cars full of police show up to take names, social security numbers and threaten my friends with jail time. If that's not enough, they charged the complaining party's room to one of my guest. I also like to note that before the call went to the police, the manager did not even attempt to call the room or knock on the door. So if you're the type that likes to be harassed by aggressive police for laughing too loud, than this place is for you! read more

Super clean, quaint, quiet. Good sized rooms, vaulted ceilings. Bed and pillows are consistant or better than hotels of similar cost. The rate was a bargain $60 / night. What more could you ask for? The walls are pretty thin, so expect to hear voices from the adjoining rooms. Other than that, the rooms are set back from the road, so there is no traffic noise. Check-in was quick and friendly. The rooms have a back door that leads to a large grassy area and a view of the river. Free wifi is a huge plus. read more

I stayed at the Copper Lantern Motor Lodge for my first time this week. My stay was for 3 nights, and despite my unusual requests, the staff and owners were both friendly and attentive. When my neighboring visitor's alarm clock started going off at 8PM without end, I dialed the main office and they quickly and politely got the visitor to turn it off. After I checked out, I needed a refrigerator to keep some of my leftover Chinese food in while I went to work (food was from Jin's- I would recommend, although you'll need your own hot peppers or sauce if you like it really spicy), which is a pretty bizarre request, and yet still the owners arranged for me to use an empty room's refrigerator all day to store my food! I doubt a chain hotel would have done that for me. The second day during my stay, I went out on a mountain bike ride, and crashed into a boulder and destroyed my recently repaired/tuned-up bike ($400 down the drain). This is relevant because I was in such a crappy mood after that (I'm not exactly rolling in money), and when I happened by Emily, one of the supervisors, I couldn't help but say that I needed somebody to vent to. Since the facility wasn't very busy, she helped me get a new alarm clock in my room (mine was broken) and listened to me vent about my frustrations regarding my bike. She was the perfect balance of friendly and professional, and little things like that are what make all the difference in a visitor's experience. The room was very clean every day, fresh towels, emptied trash, the whole nine yards, but what really made the Copper Lantern enjoyable for me was the view. Being from the countryside, I felt right at home looking out my big windows from my bed at the river and trees, sipping on a beer. I highly recommend this place to anybody looking for a quiet, clean, inexpensive, lodging experience. Wonderful & kind staff! Room was clean...there were also 2 stove burners, sink and mini fridge....nice spacious rooms! Nice flat screen....well lit for parking and parking in most cases in front of your room. Good price too! Definitely staying there again next year! read more

This isn't the Ritz Carlton, but it doesn't pretend to be. I have had less comfortable beds in places with multiple stars after their names. The carpet was clean and apparently new. The bathroom was clean -- much cleaner than the bath in the national chain property where I stayed the following night. The window sill should have been cleaner. If all you need is a good bed and a roof over your head don't hesitate to check into The Copper Lantern. A plus is that there are decent restaurants less than a mile in either direction. read more

What's good: rooms are clean, property is well maintained, rates are fair (around $60 and up, but with tax). What's not so good: wireless is slow or unable to get on even though signal is strong, check in process is from the 1970s (call in for reservation, arrive to repeat information you hand write on forms (even though they have the information), credit card is run through a paper slip, sign the book even though they have the information, etc. read more

We have been coming to the Copper Lantern since Dec. 24, 2009 after our home burned to the ground. We have returned in 2010, 12, 13 and it keeps getting better. Cleaner than ever, great single use coffee pot, new rugs, drapes, paint, TV and very good wi-fi. The manager Jessica is always welcoming and the cleaning staff is very accommodating and friendly. We stayed at the Copper Lantern for two nights. The room was spotless, new carpet on the floor, freshly painted, concrete walls so there was absolutely no noise from other rooms. The location on the banks of the Quaboag River was wonderful. We won't hesitate to stay at the Copper Lantern in the future. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby. The Salem Cross Inn is just a very short drive West of the Copper Lantern. read more

Rates are very good. There are some updated rooms and some really old ones. We ended up in an old one and it seemed well maintained and cleaned but it was just dated. I would ask for the "efficiency" and get a better room. Either way you get what you pay for and for $70 we did. read more

Our family has stayed here for extended periods several times. We were pleasantly surprised by the recent updates and improvements. The cleaning staff did a great job in making sure our room was very clean and well kept . The kitchen and bathroom were meticulously clean (thank you Jen and crew) and seemed to have endless hot water. New paint, new tv/wifi, new cups, pots and pans, dishes, silverware, pillows, shower head, shower curtain, also new pillows (soft or firm). The kitchen was stocked with paper towels, coffee supplies, salt/pepper, 2 burner stove, microwave and toaster. We were greeted by a wonderfully snowy Christmas. The grounds are very well maintained, We had our dog along with us and truly enjoyed the river, large field and beautiful views. Jessica has done a great job making you feel at home. Great food nearby. My only complaint is that the fridge freezes most things and the chairs could use new cushions. We usually stay at Comfort Inn and Quality Inn, I would say that the Copper Lantern was cleaner and smelled better than the Quality Inns that we stayed at on our trip back and forth from Florida. read more
