To top off the experience in this 1723 house we were treated to a tour by the fascinating owner who has traveled the world and shares her finds with her guests. The other hostess was as welcoming as could be and served us such tasty treats. The house is on a farm of goats and free range chickens, quintessential Colonial New England. This place was truly a dream, like a night in a museum -- very pristine, the most comfortable bedding, there were other guests but everyone was quiet and respectful. Also the breakfast, AMAZING -- fresh and elaborate fruit cup, yummy pancakes, fresh squeezed orange juice! I wish I could have come back for Christmas but there is always next year!!

This weekend was our annual Swedish Christmas gathering and Grace & Rob provided us with the perfect venue. 20 adults and 6 children from 1-11 years old just don't fit at anyone's house anymore, so we reached out to take over the B&B for a day. The common rooms are spacious enough that we all were able to easily mingle for appetizers while the kids played and enjoyed themselves. The dining room handily accommodated our buffet line and seating for our Smorgasbord. Every step of the way, the owners were there if we wanted anything. The restoration of this home into a B&B is ongoing and it is very tasteful. Can't wait to see the next stage! We all loved our rooms. They were quiet and comfortable after our long event. We were in the Austin and Ruth Suite. I easily could stay here for weeks! The cabinetry is amazing, the bathroom larger than some bedrooms and the sitting area was very enticing. And our breakfast was delicious! From the pitchers of juice and water, the homemade granola with yogurt and apples, the scrumptious French toast with Vermont maple syrup... A perfect ending to our gathering that allowed us to wind down before heading on our way.

But I'm here to talk about smells. They clean the floors with lemon-scented Pine Sol. The downstairs is all hardwood floors so it has a distinct lemon smell in the air. The room was lovely but they washed the blankets, sheets, pillowcases, and towels with a strong scented detergent. As a super smeller, this was really my only complaint. If I hadn't brought my own pillow, I would have had to leave. Luckily I was able to sleep with help from allergy meds and my personal pillow. The smell of the air outside was clean and beautiful. Fresh Connecticut air! If detergent smells don't bother you, this is a great place to stay. I suggest they consider switching to hypoallergenic (free &. clear) detergent for those of us very sensitive noses!

The hosts are just amazing, but my favorite part was the family style breakfast. We talked to people from Holland, Florida, New York and Oregon, shared stories, traded ideas about adventures and ate truly excellent home cooked breakfast. I was honestly sad to say goodbye. It's been noted already that there is a little bit of traffic noise from the hospital, and it's an old Victorian home so there's some creaky floors and noise from the room upstairs. No big deal at all - just wear some earplugs if it bothers you. It wasn't nearly as bad as some of the reviews made it out to be ‍. Parking is around back and the driveway is to the left of the house as you're looking at it. There's plenty of spots. There was also a really nice patio, which unfortunately we didn't have time to take advantage of, but I would've loved to have sat there or on one of the rocking chairs on the front porch. The key pad entry system for the building and the room is really convenient and they'll text you the codes so you always have them handy.

This year we stayed in Morts Library. It has a huge king size bed with very cozy bedding. Lots of pillows too. A second twin bed if you are traveling with an extra person. There's a Victorian desk and awesome matching end tables, along with Tiffany lamps, ceiling fans above both beds which are awesome when it's 80 degrees. There's a window air conditioner which you can program yourself. Also 2 overstuffed arm chairs to hang out in. While watching a very large flat screen television. Her bathrooms are huge all totally redone. This one we especially liked the base of the sink was a stand from a vintage treadle sewing machine. Plenty of hot water and some really nice smelling shampoo, conditioner, and body wash all in large pump bottles. You can help yourself to whatever you need. Lots of clean fluffy towels too. Breakfast is served between 830 and 930 in this what I can only describe as a magical dining room where you sit around a large piano, you have access to two or three types of juice which you can pour into beautiful crystal glasses. There are carafes of hot coffee, and you have a variety of unusual mugs to pour that into also along with any kind of sugar or creamer you would need. Marcy, who runs the Inn and is an artist has painted the walls with figures from Alice's and Wonderland. She makes you a home-cooked breakfast Eggs with bacon or sausage or ham depending on the day also with some sautéed vegetables to go with the eggs and this time an amazing poppyseed cake on the side. Seems that everyone who stays there really enjoys it also. There's usually some interesting conversations going on around that piano. If the walls could talk and in a way they do. Marcy leaves a small bowl of chalk on the piano for you to write your comments on her wall so in a way the walls do talk as there are so many wonderful comments to be seen and read. Just to mention your door to your room has a code so you don't need to carry a key and also there is a code to get into the house which Marcy supplies to you before you arrive. Parking is in the back and there's always a parking spot for you. Marcy is just an amazing hostess. If you ever get to Springfield and want to stay in a super cozy place for a very reasonable price this is definitely for you. I know we will be returning next summer on our way to the Cape and Marcy will have another beautiful room waiting for us.
