Okay, so real talk about our home renovation. We just went through the whole thing - a full kitchen tear-down and adding an ADU out back. with D&D Home Remodeling Contractors Dan, was an absolute great through the whole mess. You hear these horror stories about contractors vanishing once the check clears, but Dan was the complete opposite. He was basically on speed dial, answering my panic questions about faucet finishes with total patience. He was just so clear about everything, which for someone like me (who has decision paralysis over what color white to paint a wall) was a total lifesaver. Alexandra, their designer, guided us through the design process and was absolutely amazing. And Dan made sure to communicate every detail from the engineer to us in a language we could understand. It wasn't like we were playing telephone between them; he was in their texts and emails, figuring stuff out with them. It made us feel like we were all on the same team, you know? That collaboration thing they promise but rarely deliver? D&D actually does it. The process was, shockingly, not a nightmare. It was so smooth! Their crew was respectful, cleaned up their mess every day (a low bar, but you'd be surprised), and the whole thing felt professionally run from start to finish. No weird surprises. And omg, the results. We are just stupid happy. The kitchen is this gorgeous, functional heart of the house now, and the ADU is already booked solid by friends who are basically inviting themselves over. It's perfect. So yeah, if you're thinking about a remodel and are terrified. just call Dan. It was definitely one of the best decisions we've made for this house. 10 of 10 would recommend!

    After the chimney was removed
    Kim P.

We hired D&D Remodeling for a complex project involving a chimney removal, mold remediation, a new gate, and a complete bathroom renovation. We appreciated that Dan had the connections to bring in the right people to tackle all the projects we had. For example, the chimney removal required a structural engineer, framer, and stucco subcontractors to get the work done right. For the bathroom, Dan also brought in a designer who efficiently guided us through selecting tiles, cabinets, and finishes to achieve a great final aesthetic. Dan's coordination made the entire process seamless. He handled every logistical detail, including all city coordination and the entire permitting process. The work performed by the subcontractors was excellent. They were specialists in their fields--be it stucco, drywall, framing, or tile work--and they treated our home with respect and care throughout the project. We are very satisfied with the results. Dan was consistently communicative and delivered high-quality work. We are grateful for how smoothly and competently the project was managed from start to finish.

    Finished kitchen

We had requested D&D do a full kitchen remodel and we couldn't be happier with the entire process and the result! We had reached out to 5 companies all with excellent reviews and had them come out to inspect the space, explain our vision and give us a quote. All of the quotes came in within a 5% difference in price so that did not factor in to our decision to go with D&D. The reason they stood out for us was the fact that they sent an actual kitchen designer, Shon, for our initial estimate. Although we had a partial vision of what we wanted in the space, Shon was able to make some suggestions we had not thought of and really help solidify what we wanted. Before work began, Dan, the owner, and Eli, the project manager visited the site to ensure everything was in order and the timing would work for the least amount of disruption to our kitchen use based on the city inspection timing, which was very much appreciated! Once demo started, Terrance, Dante and Ricky were great! They always arrived on time, left everything clean and tidy at the end of day, and the quality of their work was excellent! Terrance was a rock star! Just the sheer amount of knowledge he has in every area of construction! Eli was also great at keeping us posted on the plans for each day so we always knew what was going on. I would highly recommend them without hesitation and I believe we received great value for our money!

I had water damage in the kitchen and me and my wife looked for a contractor to replace the cabinets - we found D&D and we decided to remodel the entire kitchen with them! We decided to go with a modern and sleek design We worked with Alexandra their designer And Dan was our project manger. We couldn't be happier with the results, so I highly recommend on them !!!

    New bathroom: Overview of shower.

We remodeled our master bathroom. We talked to 5 contractors and chose them. D&D impressed me with their emphasis on quality work. They have specialized workers for each job instead of one person doing lots of different things. Some maintenance problems were found unconnected with the job and they were handled too. For example, our sewer pipes did not drain well. While fixing this D&D discovered that the supply pipes were hung with wrong metal leading to eventual leak. Since the sewer pipes were not part of the bathroom job, I got a second bid on replacing them. The plumber bidder did not find the problem with the supply pipes. Thus D&D was more knowledgeable than someone who does plumbing all the time. My project manager Dan was responsive to anything needed. Summary: superb quality, extremely knowledgeable, responsive. I am sure they can handle any job.

I was so impressed with the work Dan, Daniel, and the D&D Home Remodeling team did on my parents' kitchen remodel that I knew I had to hire them for my own bathroom project. They transformed my parents' kitchen into a beautiful, functional space, and the quality of their work really stood out. When it came time to remodel my bathroom, Dan and Daniel were just as professional and attentive. They helped bring my vision to life, and the results are amazing! The bathroom feels brand new, and every detail was done with care. I really appreciate how easy they made the whole process--always keeping me in the loop and making sure everything turned out just right. I would highly recommend D&D Home Remodeling to anyone looking for a trustworthy and talented team!

Overall the experience was very good; Elijah and Bryan were super friendly and responsive. Eli was very patient and accommodating as we discussed several different potential change orders, from new windows to painting, to other misc. things that popped up. Bryan Luna was especially a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and proactivity to solve any little thing I mentioned was definitely the highlight of working with Prime. Their contracted electrician, Hector, was great as well. I also think they did a great job building out a cabinet to fit our freezer next to the matching fridge. Their master carpenter managed to salvage our existing wood to make it match perfectly. Definitely better than what I'd expect from even a carpentry specialty contractor. I will mention that it wasn't without some snags. Prime deals in volume so they're very busy. I think because I had delays in sourcing a freezer I ended up not getting a dedicated project manager for some time. We had timeline issues made worse with holidays. This caused cascading delays which inevitably pushed back my move in date a few weeks. When I finally did get a new project manager, they ghosted me (later on I found out they had a family emergency). Eli had to step in again to help. Another thing is that their pricing is quite opaque. The estimate will break down prices by milestones, but they repeated told me that it's not a valuation of the milestone itself. This made it nigh impossible to understand if I wanted to contract out specific pieces of the project (e.g. flooring). Design was OK. I felt that the designer was very busy. Sometimes very responsive (5min replies), sometimes not responsive at all (no reply). I wish I had a better, more thorough back-and-forth session about the intricacies of the design. But we made do. Ultimately, the designer made a render and helped point us to some vendors, but from there we had to make our own selection alone (cabinets, handles, pendant lights, faucets, etc.). I did appreciate her presence when we picked out countertops, though. All in all, I think this was a 4.5 star job, but I'm rounding to 5 because of Eli and Bryan :)

There have been multiple unresolved issues with the quality of work and follow-through. One example is an LED light that continues to flicker. It has been more than six months, with many calls and text messages, but the issue still has not been fixed. Another example is damage to our garage cabinet, where a hole was created during the work. We are still waiting for this to be repaired as well. Overall, the lack of timely resolution and poor communication after the project has been extremely frustrating.

The scope included a complete renovation of the kitchen, master bathroom, family room wet bar, and powder room, along with extensive upgrades to electrical systems, plumbing fixtures, flooring, drywall, and interior painting throughout a two-story home. Project Scope & Timeline The project spanned approximately nine months, from Q3 2025 through Q1 2026. This included: * 2.5 months for contractor selection and contract negotiation * 2 months for permit application * 3 months for construction and implementation * 1.5 months for finalizing the paperwork and permit status Jay and his team handled the permit application process and completed the construction phase on schedule and within budget. Notably, change orders were kept under 5% of the total contract value, which is commendable given the project's complexity. Overall Assessment Jay Construction delivered solid results in terms of execution, cost control, and quality. While there were some challenges--particularly around communication and project management--issues were generally resolved in a collaborative and reasonable manner. Based on our experience, we assign an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars. One important consideration for future clients: Jay manages multiple projects simultaneously and may not always be readily available. Homeowners who are willing to stay actively involved--especially in communication and coordination--will likely have a smoother experience. ======================================= Detailed Breakdown by Work Category 1. Electrical Work (9/10, weight 20) Handled by a licensed team (Caesar & his team, Alpha Valley Electric), the electrical work was efficient and well-coordinated. Rough and finish phases were completed in a day each, with additional visits for inspection fixes. High marks for responsiveness and execution. 2. Plumbing Work (8/10, weight 20) The plumbing contractor (Mark) demonstrated strong attention to detail. While this area generated the most change orders due to unforeseen issues with existing piping, problems (including two leaks) were addressed promptly and professionally. 3. Carpentry (9/10, weight 20) * Kitchen Cabinetry & Ventilation (9/10, weight 15): Kornei & team, high-quality installation with complex ventilation work executed to code. * Wet Bar Cabinetry (9/10, weight 5): Viktor, excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. 4. Countertop Installation (8/10, weight 10) Mario & his team of three. Quartz countertops were installed cleanly across multiple areas, with good overall results. 5. Master Bathroom Renovation (9/10, weight 10) Viktor. This portion stood out for its quality. Waterproofing, Wall & Floor tile work, and fixture installation were all completed to a high standard. 6. Flooring (9/10, weight 20) Navruz Flooring, team of 3. Luxury vinyl plank flooring and Baseboards were installed throughout the home, including stairs. The results were consistent and professionally finished. 7. Drywall & Painting (Mixed Results, weight 20) * Initial Work (6/10, weight 10): Ali & team. Drywall texture quality was below expectations, though painting was acceptable. * Redo Work (9/10, weight 5): Smart Painting. After concerns were raised, Jay allowed us to bring in an alternative team (paid with contract dollars), which significantly improved the outcome. * Final Touch-Ups (9/10, weight 5): VitaIy and Viktor. Excellent work. 8. Demolition & Debris Removal (8/10, weight 10) Dimitri (Kitchen, Mater Bath), Vladimir & his team (Rest of the project including all carpet, hardwood floor removal). Efficient and thorough across all phases of the project. 9. Permits & Inspections (7/10, weight 10) While Jay managed the process, we found it necessary to stay actively involved to resolve delays and clarify requirements with the building department. All inspections were ultimately passed, including final approval after two rounds. 10. Project Management & Communication (6/10, weight 20) This was the weakest area. Jay's limited availability meant we took on a more hands-on role--coordinating finished products and rough materials with subcontractors, and helping manage dependencies. That said, Jay was consistently fair and solution-oriented when issues arose, and worked with subcontractors to resolve dependencies. Final Verdict Jay Construction Company is a capable contractor that delivers good quality work at a reasonable cost and timeline. Their subcontractors are generally skilled and reliable, and the company demonstrates flexibility when addressing problems. However, the experience benefits significantly from active homeowner involvement, particularly in communication and day-to-day coordination. If you are prepared to take on that role, Jay Construction can be a strong partner for a comprehensive home renovation project.

All prior interior work in our house had been done by handyman. I really appreciated the communication from our project manager Marc. He created a WhatsApp chat with me and the incredible designer Jocelyn. They were both consistently responsive to any of my questions or concerns -- and opened my mind to design options. Jocelyn spent time in our home, drafted plans, took me shopping, and sourced all the fixtures. From her spreadsheet I was able to find less expensive options for some items. I appreciated the input and control I had on these expenses. Since we needed to move out, I had a tight timeline for the project -- mid October until Thanksgiving. Marc and the team did their best despite City of San Jose delays with inspections. We were able to move back in before the final inspection. Every member of the team was kind and courteous. Marc also did a great job working with the window vendor that specializes in older homes. I'm rating the experience a 4.5 out of 5 for two reasons. I was disappointed that the medicine cabinet, switch plates, and hooks were initially installed unevenly (it was corrected). I expected more attention to detail. And I was disappointed in the wear & tear that happened on my wood floors as well as the overall dust in my dining room. I was warned that things would get dusty -- but didn't understand the extent and would have packed away more things. WISE offers lots of support with design -- they could also offer as part of their package a full cleaning! I offer this feedback to help others calibrate their expectations. Overall it was a positive experience. I waited several months to post this review until I returned from travel and could see how things were settling after regular use. I'm loving the new bathroom and recommend WISE.
