Nathan and his team are fantastic. I worked with Nathan on a full-gut, fully permitted renovation project. Having talked to multiple GCs to get quotes, it was clear Nathan had a very honest and reasonable approach. He also was happy to show his previous work as an example. It's also a great sign that he has a good relationship with his past client, and I can see why, now being one of them. Even after the project had mostly finished, Nathan was still helping to touch up any minor issues the previous client had. This amount of service really convinced me Nathan was the right person to go with. Nathan worked with me diligently throughout the planning phase, addressing any hiccups. He is also great at handling inspections and it was completely hands-off from me, which gave me great peace of mind. During construction, his team worked quickly, efficiently, and with high quality. He and the foreman had a great understanding of construction techniques and would explain in detail exactly what we needed to do. This gave me a great understanding of what exactly was going on in my house and give me confidence in the construction quality. Nathan was flexible with schedule. We were able to meet almost every week during the critical times and every other week otherwise to go over updates and scope of work. When needing to hit critical deadlines, Nathan and his team delivered. When decision points came up, we would go over options and he would give his advice. We were always able to quickly come to a decision. When issues came up during the build that required going a more expensive than expected route, Nathan often quietly addressed them without adding an extra charges. While I tried my best to avoid changes in scope, they inevitably come up. Some of these things Nathan covered for me. For everything else we were always able to find a reasonable path forward. When I pointed out small quality issues, Nathan didn't hesitate to get them addressed. The attention to detail is great - we acclimated the hardwood, beautifully mitered waterfall edges, installed clean under cabinet lighting, got the walls down super smooth and touched up all imperfections, custom arches were clean and perfectly curved, trims and baseboards were seamless - the list goes on. He also has a great network of skilled laborers and suppliers that all help reduce the cost a little and ensure expert quality. While the overall schedule did push out a bit (which seems inevitable in construction), the end result was worth the wait and I'm overall very happy with the quality of work and finishes. I think the best thing with Nathan is that it makes the stressful process of home renovation as stress-free as possible, and you can be rest assured he will get you across the finish line with a result that you will be happy with. read more

I'd like to begin by saying that we had hired Nathan as project manager once before to remodel our master bathroom. Because we were so happy with the entire process of that job, we wanted him to handle our kitchen remodel as well. The kitchen turned out great and we are very happy with the result but there were a few problems along the way. Ours was a pretty straightforward remodel, we wanted to paint our kitchen cabinets which were original to the home built in 1969, place new porcelain countertops with a waterfall at two ends, replace the vinyl flooring with porcelain planks, and repaint the walls and ceiling. Our kitchen is a rather small galley type kitchen, so the project wasn't huge, and was expected to be completed within 5-6 weeks. Things got off to a slow start, the installation of the floor took 5 days, and didn't include the grouting which was accomplished by a different employee on a separate day, so it actually took 6 days. The installer did a nice job, but was exceedingly slow. The flooring was covered with construction paper to protect it before the grout had been cleaned off, so when it did come time to clean it, the grout had completely dried, and was difficult to remove, and took an additional full day to complete. It was estimated that 3 slabs of porcelain would be needed for the counters, but we wanted to buy an extra slab because the veining on the porcelain we had selected was complex, and we wanted the sections to flow as perfectly as possible. After the countertops were installed, which turned out amazingly well, a crack developed in one section that ran from the front of the counter all the way to the wall. Nathan was great about the whole thing and agreed to obtain another slab in order to replace it, which he did. Almost immediately, the replaced section developed a crack in exactly the same spot as the first. It was at this point that it was realized that our counters weren't perfectly flat and level, nor were they sufficiently rigid, which is a must for porcelain slabs as they are somewhat fragile. After some adjustments which included the addition of an underlayer of Hardie board and some reinforcement of the counters structure to increase the rigidity, a 3rd section was placed. The matching of the veining was not as perfect as the first installation. This was disappointing, but we would have accepted that, however, because the height of the counter had been raised due to the installation of the Hardie board underneath, the waterfall end was no longer long enough to reach the floor. Without consulting us, the fabricator spliced on a narrow strip at the floor level which did not match the veining at all and noticeably stood out. I messaged Nathan right away, and he agreed that this was not an acceptable solution, and agreed to obtain even more counter material to replace the waterfall section. At this point I was becoming slightly annoyed and asked that two slabs be obtained so that the entire section of countertop, the waterfall as well as the next section which adjoined the piece that had cracked twice could once again be matched to the level that the original installation had obtained, and without hesitation, Nathan agreed, and much to his credit, and the craftsmanship of the fabricator, the 4th attempt came out beautifully, and we are delighted with the way it now looks. The project ended up taking a little more than 9 weeks instead of 6, however, because the installation took longer than expected, we had to halt progress for 4 days for a previously planned vacation, and an additional 2 days when we had another pressing matter to attend to that was originally scheduled to be beyond the expected completion date, so that six days was on us but only necessary because the project ran longer than anticipated. I was going to rate the job as 4 stars because of the problems with the porcelain installation, but because Nathan was so understanding and easy to work with, and went the extra mile to ensure a quality job in the end, we decided to give True Builders the full 5 stars. To sum up, we are delighted with our new kitchen, but we think that a lot of the delay and frustration could have been avoided if someone had checked to ensure that our cabinets were suitable for the installation of porcelain slabs prior to the actual installation. Despite that, the work was completed to our satisfaction, and Nathan was terrific throughout the entire process, we couldn't be happier with the end result. read more

True Builders - General Contractors Near Me

True Builders did a wonderful job on our sunroom addition. From lot survey, soil testing, design, permitted plans, phases of construction and inspections, Nathan provided expert guidance throughout the entire process. The San Jose inspections were many and their inspectors are extremely busy. I was very pleased that Nathan saved us a great amount of time by calling in for inspection cancellations and having the inspectors move to our job. Nathan coordinated his efforts with my pool contractor who was doing a pool and hardscape remodel at the same time. They worked well together in coordinating the overlap of their work. Nathan oversees and devotes a lot of attention to detail that ensure quality work. All True Builders construction crews are very well skilled in their individual disciplines. All did quality work in a timely manner. I highly recommend True Builders/Nathan for any of your construction needs. read more

Nathan and his team are awesome. He was very communicative throughout the whole process and collaborated via WhatsApp which really helped keep everything on track. They have a designer in house but at the end of the day you still have final say. I'd recommend having a vision and general idea before engaging their designer. On the contractor side, generally high quality, responsive, and courteous. So long as you have realistic expectations of what a reno looks like (no wall is plumb!), they're really receptive to both small and big fixes so long as you're checking their work at the end of each day. It's much easier to course correct each day than wait too long! Really big fan of Nathan's communication and management style, really great working with him and he's quite flexible. read more

I would recommend Nathan 100%. He and his team redid my kitchen and all the floors in my home, and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. They were precise, accurate with cost estimates, and very good about staying within my budget. The payment schedule was clear, fair, and easy to understand, which made me feel comfortable throughout the project. Nathan was the project manager and did a wonderful job. He frequently checked on the construction and made sure the work was being done properly. Most importantly, he always made sure I was continually satisfied and comfortable with how everything was progressing. The workers were diligent, hardworking, and respectful. They worked reasonable hours and always left my home spotless, even though it was a construction zone. As a senior living alone, I am not usually comfortable taking on projects like this, but everyone was extremely kind, patient, and helpful. They helped me pick out all of my finishes and took the time to explain everything clearly. The work was full-service, high quality, and budget-friendly. I am very happy with the results and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for honest, dependable, and skilled professionals. read more

We had done some remodeling before, but when we needed an expert for a high level of complexity, True Builders rose to the task. They had worked on a major project in Saratoga that we saw and loved. For our second-story addition and whole house remodeling, we can mention Nathan, who led the operation with the help of his team leaders Aaron and Mike. The foremen were Jose and Luis. Truth be told, we couldn't have asked for a better team. The communication with Nathan was smooth and clear. He explained the ups and downs of the work and tasks. We went over our budget, but Nathan gave us a heads up on it because we changed our minds more than a few times. Nathan provided logical and helpful input. Sometimes it's better to just listen to the experts! Now, we enjoy our beautiful new home and love every bit of it. We are searching for another lot in the area for a new custom home, and Nathan already knows that he will continue to be our guy. We definitely recommend True Builders! read more

We vetted 5 different contractors when looking to do our kitchen remodel and ended up going with True Builders for a multitude of reasons. Our first visit was filled with a great deal of questions, and even though it was just a site visit to start the bidding process, Nathan took the time to answer questions around every aspect of the project. He offered up suggestions, provided insight into the potential administrative hurdles, and even went so far as to discuss finish work. He was patient and kind, never putting pressure on us at any point during the bidding process. He remained available to answer any questions and even came back for an additional visit. Although the pictures of their work said enough, we chose True Builders because of how honest, accessible, personable, and attentive Nathan was from our first phone call. We were provided accurate timelines and clear expectations for every aspect of our project. If there were delays, it was due to material not being on site and not for a lack of presence on the job site. With past work in our home, the contractor was absent from the job site for days, and would have to be asked to check in. Not with Nathan, he made frequent visits, even when we were not present, kept in communication constantly, and kept us apprised of any next steps we needed to take to move towards completion. Since we worked odd schedules, he would use a combination of text messages and videos to discuss concerns or ask for our approval for certain items in real time. We truly appreciated the level of engagement he offered us, and he made us feel like we were the most important project going (though we knew he had bigger jobs at the time). Additionally, Nathan's team was awesome. Mauro was the foreman on the job and did most of our work. He was amazing and a representation of the team that Nathan surrounds himself with. Was also pleasant, kept in great communication, respectful of our property, and so kind to our children; truly another reason we will hire True Builders in the future. We did have a setback where a water hose discharged water into our basement and damaged some property. In our eyes, accidents happen, but it is how you address them and respond that matters. Nathan and his team responded to our situation with attentiveness and concern. At 2:00am, Mauro came over to assess the situation and clean up the mess. The next day Nathan was on site to assess the damage. Without hesitation he set out to make it right and replaced every single item that was damaged and had our carpet cleaned and restored. We were made whole, and our working relationship strengthened. As we were at the end of our project Nathan took our punch list and ensured every details was to our liking. He was present for every inspection and facilitated the whole process. True Builders made what could have been a lengthy, stressful project, enjoyable. We remained excited at every step as our vision came to completion. I highly recommend you consider Nathan and his team for your project, you will not be disappointed. read more

Project Manager - Yafit. The Forman - Gilbert Project: Addition 2nd story with home remodeling. I want to thank True Builders team for the wonderful job your crew did on our new house. I have to be honest I was so impressed by you. From the first time I spoke with you over the phone throughout the process and now after all the work is completed, our family and neighbors - all are super impressed and compliments are not stoping from coming. At first, my husband and I were extremely overstressed with the purchase of a new house in good school district but the house was not in a good shape at all. The house is old and was not updated with anything. The bathrooms were old and looks like no matter how much you will clean it still looks like there is something there. The kitchen was so tinny and you couldn't move around it if there is more than one person there, and even then it felt too much. The electrical was outdated and we had to rewire the whole house. We had about three pipes under the house that we needed to replace, long story short - it was a mess. We were looking for a contractor who does it all from design to the remodeling itself. At the time we met Yafit, our Project manager, she rest assured us that our home will be in good hands. The process itself was explained to us, straight forward, our project manager, from the beginning did not try to make it pretty. This actually made us ready for the long process with the city. The plans phase was pretty smooth since we knew what we wanted to do, and we got so many good pointers from our project manager. We had a pretty strict budget that we didn't want to go above, which is awesome since they have designers to make sure of that. All of us worked together as a team to make sure that we will get all the items needed and invest in the right items that are the most important. Yafit was there almost everyday, she sent images, videos, updates - super professional! When we pointed issues, Yafit provided us with solutions to choose from. It was just an easy communication with him. She become our 'Yes Man'! Again, Yafit, Gilbert, Jose, Mario, Victor, and team - Thank you all so much for making this a great experience. Everyone we have had the pleasure to meet throughout this process has been so friendly and professional - Great customer service! I will recommend True Builders to all my family, friends and anyone looking to have any home addition or renovations done. True Builders and Yafit will be our 'To go to' for construction work. God bless you all! read more
