I agree with Chris that the staff is always busy talking within themselves to provide any decent customer service. They had one of their friends drop by to chat with them the last time we were there. You really need to do your homework before coming to this location. However, they do have some sweet deals on apparels and helmets. You just can't go wrong with a $10 Fox and Alpinestars t-shirts or $34 dirt bike helmets. If you want to skip the annoyance of going to a store, try their website. One thing really odd about them is that the store sale and the website sale sometimes doesn't correspond with each other. My favorite Cycle Gear due not only to the location but also because of the very helpful staff. While the store isn't that big, they have enough to get anyone going. Ordering through the staff by going through the catalog and discussing which items i should get and don't get is extremely helpful because most of the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Me and the husband both ride, we get our gear from there been coming here for years as the employees change from time to time some are still cool. Vanessa and Alex are the best!! I recommend you get ur stuff from Vanessa as a female rider she knows her stuff! I like going there and have good conversations with the chick good vibes when I come in. Well depending on the salesmen. The manager is a real douche, I believe his name is Shaun. my husband came home and told me this dick of a manager told him not to come in and disturbed the employees. First off he spends money there so u better wipe his ass with compliments so he can spend some money in ur store. Second, I spend thousands of dollars there and you have the nerve to say that to someone I know?!? Third we ride with everyone n everyone we know go there. I was talking to Vanessa about something bike related and then douche bag said "come help now" when I see a female disrespected like that just cause she's employee makes me not want to go there. I give this place 3 stars for Vanessa and Alex good service, knows there shit, and friendly people that converse like their my ridding buddies. Losing 2 stars cause management sucks since mike left. I came to Cycle Gear last week looking for a new helmet because mine had been stolen. Evan (young female, I think that is her name) went above and beyond to assist me as soon as I walked in the door. I'm not all that familiar with brands and whatnot, and she did a great job explaining everything in simplest terms for me. It was definitely much more relaxing to have help from another female! My comments are not limited to the Hayward store, they apply to all the East Bay stores. Issue #1-Correct me if I'm wrong, but, isn't the advantage to shopping in a bricks and mortar store that you can touch and try on the merch? Well, if that is the criteria, Cycle Gear earns a fail in my book. Never have my size, no matter if it is gloves, helmet or boots. I am a little big(6' tall, 210 lbs.), but not that far out of the norm. Note to Cycle Gear staff:It doesn't help that some other store might have it or that you can order it. I can order it. I can order it from Motorcycle Superstore or some other online retailer for much less than Cycle Gear. The reason why I came to Cycle Gear in the first place is because I want it now. Issue #2-I understand that businesses have to make money, but when I see the tire I need is priced almost twice what the online retailers want, I will definitely plan ahead from now on. Issue #3-The staff. Either super enthusiastic, in-your-face, over the top helpful, or downright surly, wish you were dead types that only existed previously in indie record shops. Cycle Gear management should go over to Scuderia, or maybe Rockridge Two wheel, to see how to do it right in the moto retail scene. Issue #4-Why can't the mechs NOT scratch my rims when they change my tires, and then act like I'm a prick that expects too much when I complain? I have since bought my own tire changing tools, and I am able to do this without scratching the rims. Many people say that we need to support local moto retail, or it will disappear. Well, to tell the truth, I mostly gave up on it 20 years ago. Give me a good reason to come back. Stock my size, and keep the prices from getting over 20% higher than online retail and I might come back. Until then you will only see me in an emergency. BTW-Cycle Gear is not exactly local, they have stores in many states, and are more like what Safeway is to Grocery than what a mom and pop corner store is. read more

I have been here a few times, customer service is OK. They seemed to be helpful when I needed the help. So far no one has given me attitude yet. Selection is not as big as the Pleasanton or Fairfield Cycle Gear. However, they have better people working here compared to the Fairfiel location and that makes all the difference. Arrived at the shop at 5:30pm to get a tire mounted and was fully expecting to have to leave the tire/wheel for mounting the next day. While initially told that was the case, the unbelievably helpful (and cute!) Stephanie said she'd do it, and would have it done in 20 minutes or less. She was true to her word and I walked out of there with my tire perfectly mounted. Wow! Great service and would highly recommend. read more

Like the REI or Kragan of the motorcycle world; you really need to know what you're looking for before going to this CycleGear. The staff is either too busy talking about their weekends or too incomptetant to help out. A decent selection of helmets, including Arai and Shoei, but you can do better at an independent shop for quality gear (leathers and textiles). God help you if you need incidentals, like a lock or faceshield cleaner? Who else puts locks on two separate aisles? For what it's worth, I've been to other CycleGears (Redwood City, for instance) where the staff was moderately helpful. Alternatives? If you're anywhere remotely near San Francisco, Scuderia is the only way to go. read more

My boyfriend & I had originally planned on taking his tires to the Harley Shop to get mounted & balanced but thought cycle gear would be equally as good, NOPE!! they originally said when we dropped off the tires they would be done the next day before 5pm &would call to let us know. Well next day it was about 1pm or so & no call so i decided to call & see if they were ready. The girl told me nobody was going to be in to service the tires that day. I wasnt happy but they did say they need or have 48 hours to service. So a day passed. I call to see what's going on the next day & how long it will be. The guy said there we're 4 tires ahead of me but definitely should be done before 5pm that day & they will call. So you know when we dropped off the tires there we're 4 tires ahead of us. That day comes & goes. So 3 & a half days later when I called to get an update the tires where ready. FINALLY. We went to pick up the tires & noticed when we took a look at them they scuffed up the side of the white wall tire & the other they didn't remove the weights from the sticker. After all that we looked at eachother with regret. Never again. We'll be going to the Harley Shop like we thought to do so in the beginning. Oh, whats also irritating is Cycle Gear never called us to let us know what was going on with the tires but i never recieved a call saying they where done either. read more

One of the best places one coild go for your motorcycle needs! I have been a long customer of this place since i learned how to ride a motorcycles since 1998 and it's long time that i should write a review about this place for it's long overdue. I never had bad service here in Cycle Gear, Their product selections are always been great.They always have "Specials" every week or every other week.The crew that works in ANY Cycle gear store are Friendly, Courteous and True Professionals! when it comes to any information on any bike that you may need.You have a special order!? Just asks and they try their very best to accomodate your request. They also have some Tire services provided that you bring your Motorcycle wheel sOFF your bike (most Retail stores would not take your tires off your bike i think it's for Insurance Purposes) and understandably so.I highly recommend this place for most of your motorcycle needs! read more

Brought my wheels in for new tires. They balanced the tire without removing the old weights. They put new weights over chain geese and lost my valve stem cover. In the end it took them over 2 hours to accomplish this. Lucky my trucks in the shop so I had to ride Bart read more

I always order my gears @ Cyclegear. I called this store and wanted to find find out if they have an Asphalt motorcycle police jacket on sale and he said he had one left. I said clearly an Asphalt brand as it was on sale. I drove crossed a San Meteo bridge and when I got there he said it's sold out but we had a Bilt brand which was double the price. I just talked to him less than an hour ago. This is not professional at all. I was wasting my gas and a toll fee without nothing. I am not going back to this store. Please take the job seriously, because you will never know where your customer came from, probably 50/100 miles away. read more
