I would give this place probably 2.5 stars because of so many reasons!!! They're always understaffed. And if there are staff in the building; they're normally weird, awkward, not friendly, and task oriented. Seems like they're there to stock the shelves not actually helping customers whenever needed. Stores is always so not clean. I don't know if they even dust the beauty aisles. I feel disgusted buying any beauty items from there. And finally, pharmacists are just some jokers there. Most of their answers are "check maybe aisle blah blah..." And not much actual help that we need. I think they're last on putting on their promotions too because they wouldn't have the same promotion advertised as the cvs downtown. CVS Pharmacy at Colesville Road is fine, responsive and fills prescriptions in a timely, accurate way. Today the rest of the store left much to be desired. In the middle of the day it was understaffed (apparently one person and the mmanager) to the extent that one of the entrances had to be closed. The shelves were not well stocked. I saw empty spaces on basic items, e.g. kleenex. Nor did this CVS carry the CVS brand sunscreen (which comes with zinc). I am a smart guy but even with the manager's attempt to help I could not tell for sure that the coupons and discounts I had were properly applied. So I decided to buy only what I absolutely needed and get the other items at Walgreens or another store. I will go the pharmacy but be very leery of buying anything else there. read more

The store is always horribly understaffed and/or the person at the register/self-checkout doesn't know how to do anything except ring people up - can't troubleshoot, answer questions, void, write rainchecks, or solve other customer problems (which mostly happen at self-checkout and are usually something dumb like it doesn't register that fact that you placed your cotton balls in the bagging area but it takes 3-8 minutes for a staff member to come hit a button to allow you to keep ringing). I've been going to this, my neighborhood CVS, for over 3 years, and today was by far my worst experience there. I was having trouble getting an extra care coupon to apply to a product I purchased. There was one female staff member at the cash register, a customer at all 3 of the self-checkouts (myself included), and a line of at least 5 people. 2 of us at self-checkout needed help. We waited for her to finish a few transactions. She came to try to help me but couldn't figure it out. She went to help the other self-checkout lady, and that lady ended up having to get in the register line to get her issue taken care of (she and I were very patient by the way, and it's not this woman's fault at all that there seemed to be NO ONE else in the store to come to the front). She called for register assistance twice over the loudspeaker and no one came. No exaggeration I was waiting for someone to come help me for at least 10 minutes. I heard the woman literally say under her breath, "CVS is killing me." I work in retail. I feel that. I laughed empathetically. But also as a customer I was very annoyed. Buying one nail polish shouldn't take me 20 minutes at self-checkout when there wasn't even a line to wait in. Finally the woman went outside - I guess the manager had been out there for some reason? Maybe on a break, although is there not ONE more employee in the store to come up to the front to help this woman in a 20 minutes timespan?! As soon as she went outside to get this guy he came in and helped me. He was friendly and respectful, but I was so frustrated after that much time, and he was confusing the heck out of himself and me by voiding and scanning and hitting yes to all the prompts about using my extra care coupons electronically attached to my card that I didn't even want to use (I think I lost 1 or 2 extra bucks somehow with all these voids and transactions). There's a female manager there who's always great. She wasn't there today. She's quick, helpful, nice, knows her stuff, knows the store and products and everything. I've seen her just manually take off dollar amounts when coupons that I show her are valid don't ring for some reason. Finally I just said to this guy, can you just manually take off $3 and we'll be done? So that's what finally happened. I was literally trying to buy this damn nail polish for 20 minutes. I didn't need it for $9, but $6 was worth it to me. Was it worth 20 minutes though? No, but I was already in the situation. In summary, GET MORE STAFF, AND GET STAFF WHO KNOW HOW TO DO MORE THAN JUST SCAN BAR CODES!!! Today was the worst example of this, but it happens more often than not that there seems to be one lone worker anywhere remotely near the front of the store and no one else to be found. On a positive note, I've had really good experiences with the pharmacy. Other CVSs have been pains in the butt, messing up prescriptions, calling the wrong doctors, just screwing things up. This CVS has never done any of that, and I have tons of prescriptions, and I've been using this CVS branch as my pharmacy for over a year now. Overall though still 1 star for the store. read more

worst pharmacy ever. I witnessed the doctor calling in the prescription. I gave it a couple hours and then went to the pharmacy. I waited one full hour in the pick up line and then they said there was no prescription called in. I confirmed that the doctor used the correct phone number. A couple weeks ago, my husband had to go to the pharmacy three times and finally got his prescription. Avoid this pharmacy. The CVS in downtown Silver Spring on Wayne is much much better. read more

The levels of staff incompetence here is mind-numbing!!! I transferred a prescription here in hopes of taking advantage of a free $25 gift card coupon. BIG MISTAKE. The pharmacist, Abdul, had to call the manager to process the transaction. The manager took over 10 minutes to appear at the pharmacy area. Another 5 to log into the terminal. With a print-out of "Gift Card Instructions" in hand, both Abdul and the manager attempted to complete my transaction. The manager had to call someone with his cell phone for advice. Another 25 minutes and what I guess to be five voided transactions later, they told me to come back the next day. Why I bothered waiting is beyond me. I left my prescription behind after they assured that I can still claim the $25 gift card if I bring back the RX paper. Doubt it! DO NOT SHOP AT THIS CVS. Aside from the pea-brained staff, their aisles always look like they got robbed - messy, under-stocked, dirty. And yes, I will be making a complaint to Corporate. **Update 8/31/10: Adbul has apparently deleted my entire prescription history in its entirety out of spite, including any record of the transfer (Harris Teeter pharmacy still has the transfer record). I have written a formal complaint to CVS via cvs.com, as well as logged a call to 800-SHOP-CVS (who were very nice on the phone). What possess a grown man to do something this unprofessional and petty is beyond comprehension. I didn't even cuss at him. But now I will have to follow through with this investigation. And no, I don't give two shits about the prescription or the $25 gift card at this point. **Update sometime in Sept 2010: Corporate referred me to the Regional RX Manager. He called me to better assess the situation. A week or so later I received an automatic recording call, advising me that my prescription was ready. Huh? I go pick it up - it was the "lost" prescription from before. Somehow they recovered it. I called the Regional RX Manager to ask if Abdul was reprimanded for his incompetence/lack of professionalism - the number had stopped working. Hopefully, CVS Corporate had fired them all. read more

Seriously, this is the WORST pharmacy I have EVER been to. The store itself is not too bad, it's convenient for me and so I'll go to the store if I need something immediately. However, the pharmacy... I will do what I need to do to go ANYWHERE ELSE. The people that work in the pharmacy are incompetent. Some of them yes do not speak English. I still give them a chance and work with them. But some of them DO speak English and they just don't GET it. There is ALWAYS a line, doesn't matter the time or how many people are working. They take their sweet as time ringing up the person and finding their prescription. I have come here at least 4 times now, and each time I have had to wait at least 20-30 more minutes longer because they couldn't find something, didn't know what to do or just didn't fill my prescription in time. I normally call it in at least 6 hours earlier - and they STILL don't have it ready. How is that possible? Additionally, they are SO incredibly rude. They have messed up my RX twice and each time instead of apologizing and taking the blame, they turned it around on my doctor, insurance or me. Finally, I had enough and decided to take my business elsewhere. This is seriously the most incompetent pharmacy team ever. They don't have the right work ethics, I see them very often with long lines chatting and laughing with their colleagues when they very well could be assisting their customer. Last, they can't read most of the time. So... HOW DID THEY GET THIS JOB IF THEY CAN'T READ? And how do I know that I am getting the right RX? I never write reviews. Don't even bother calling. They'll put you on hold for 20-30 minutes and then hang up, unless they hang up before they even put you on hold. Pharmacist and everyone working there is nice but they are very short staffed and cannot give the right information over the phone if you even are able to reach someone. They have given me the wrong medication before, contacted me that something was ready and it got lost, the list goes on and on. I truly do not understand this business. They need to hire more people or figure out how to be competent. read more

The only reason to visit this CVS is if it is 2 AM and you are desperate for a temporary cure til the doctor opens at 10 AM. I have filled at least a dozen prescriptions here and every time it has been a hassle. More than once I have been told they are out of a medication that is incredibly common. Beyond the pharmacy the store looks like it was ranshacked and left in disarray. Go next door to Giant or across the street if you need something! read more

Honestly not going back to the CVS on customer service alone. Not only was I treated rudely but several other customers in line were treated rudely as well. I called in advance to see if the money order machine was working because sometimes the machine is just down and no one knows why. So I called to see if it was working. The person said let me check and left me on hold for 10 min. Literally the entire time it took me to drive there I was on hold. I arrive to a line of 4 disgruntle people in from of me. An older lady ask for antibacterial wipes for the cart and they said they don't have them. Then the younger worker said very disrespectfully you can go buy some. Then the only cashier on the register was stopping other people of her ethnicity and asking them personal things about their church and getting their phone numbers so she could call them later. TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE at work when you have a line of 7 people. Then on top of all of that, the money order machine wasn't working. Customer service here is a drag but if you are going and plan to do self check out you should be fine. read more

Do yourself a favor and just take the risk of: getting ill from not taking your meds, going to get treated and waiting to fully recover. That should take less time than waiting for CVS to refill your prescription. I've been without my medicine for a week due to CVS. I called and they put me on hold for 25 minutes...I just hung up. Every time i try and use the passport photo center its out of service. Do not ask for help.

I called to fill a prescription and was put on and taken off hold at least 3 times over what ended up being more than a fifteen minute phone call. When I was sick of the hold music, I finally just went over to the store myself where they told me they had no prescription on record, even though my doctor had just confirmed with me that she had called them that morning. As I waited at the counter, the assistant walked by a phone ringing off the hook and told it to "shut up" as she walked by. When I told her that had been be 5 minutes ago she looked embarrassed and filled my prescription anyway even though she couldn't find the record from my doctor's call that morning. Illegal? Maybe. Needless to say these people need to get their act together. Oh and I think Tuesday is senior citizen day or something so definitely avoid then. read more

What is with CVS? The chain is awful-- you only see your 'care' card discount AFTER you pay. This store is horribly organized and discounts on shelf are rarely programmed into the checkouts. Self checkout constantly needs the attendant to override a paused register. AVOID!! Looks nice on outside-- don't be fooled like I was! Oh-- and really classy: the manager was openly mocking a worker's accent in front of customers (of course he was actually trying to work and be helpful!). read more

Not a very good CVS. I have never had any trouble with staff members; however, there always seems to be too few cashiers up front. In addition, the automatic machines are often broken. This leads to long lines at check out for no good reason. In the pharmacy, you can expect an even longer line. But the pharmacists always seemed more knowledgeable than those at the neighboring Giant supermarket. Plus, make sure to get a gift certificate for transfering a prescription there from another store! The best thing about the place is its open 24/7. Very good in case someone in the family is sick at 3 am! read more

Don't go here even if it is convenient. The Pharmacy is staffed with a bunch of people who can barely speak english. Most of the time I have to write my name down so they can look up an order - HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THEN DISPENSE MEDS if they can't speak english? Prescriptions are never ready when then say and the attitude of go screw yourself is paramount by the staff. I have to wonder out loud how many people have gotten the wrong meds? Don't bother ordering photos here. I ordered 1 hour photos, no one bothered to tell me their machine was down. I called after 4 hours to check and my "your order is ready" email hadn't come yet, and was told their machine was down indefinately. I asked why I wasn't contacted (as the website states) and was told that they didn't think I really wanted them in an hour... Of course by this hour, it was too late to get photos made anywhere else until the next day, which was the whole reason I sent them to 1 hour in the first place. Zero communication, completely unapologetic, and told me that they couldn't cancel my order, but that I could chose to not pick them up when printed. Infuriating! read more

The WORST CVS in CVS History! Their Pharmacy is the worst part of this store though.....they are the most unfriendly and unhelpful bunch of women that I've seen in MD and they continue to operate so. When you are done shopping, prepare yourself for a horrible checkout line....although the sympathetic customers in line with you will probably strike up an interesting conversation. For some strange reason, this store with it's poor Pharmaceutical staff attracts the nicest customers. The front of the store staff/cashiers seem to be pretty nice. I can't speak for the pharmacy, as I have yet to use it, but I have found the staff here to be consistently friendly and helpful. I often have a brief conversation with whoever is at the register, and almost always leave with a smile on my face and a sense of belonging to a local neighborhood, where people remember my face and have a kind word waiting. read more

The most incompetent and unhelpful people I've ever met working in both the pharmacy and the rest of the store.

After I filed a formal complaint, I got a nice call from the brand new regional manager as well as a call from a pharmacist (not the one who was there when I picked up the replacement for my expired prescription). Both reassured me that things were going to change, and the pharmacist gave me a free refill on my prescription (saving me about $25). So I thought I'd give them another shot. Bad plan. I watched them argue with a man who's been trying to get life-saving meds for his wife for the past three weeks - apparently they lost her prescriptions AGAIN. I walked in at 6:15 to pick up my prescription. The poor overwhelmed tech said it would be a while and I said I would come back. He took my name and promised to call. I called back at 8:00 pm. This time, I got a rude tech who not only told me they didn't call customers, but my prescription MIGHT be ready in the next hour. Maybe. Maybe not. But hey, they're 24 hour, so no worries, right? This might rank as the worst pharmacy ever. read more

Coupons are rarely accepted when you do the self checkout which is all they offer here. I had a 30% coupon that was put through but it was never taken off. This is not the first time it has happened. The priced items are always misleading. One lady yesterday had an argument with the clerk as the price tag had in very small letters that you had to purchase three in order to receive the printed price. They continually do this at this store. There is never anyone to serve you and insist that you only use self checkout. What ever happened to customer service? This store needs a complete overhaul in customer service. read more

The pharmacy here is usually responsive (at least for me). When there was a rush order from my doctor they were quick to call me and inform me that they were out and gave me an approximate time when they expected to have my prescription ready. They then promptly called me personally when the order was in and ready for pickup. The waits for the pharmacy can be a drag though, even if you come outside of peak hours (during lunch, after work). Other staff at this store are ok. read more

The worst Pharmacy on the earth!!!! Is located at 1290 East-West highway silver Spring MD , 20910 They are extremely racist! Every time I come here or my husband with our state insurance the are not helpful and make the process of getting prescriptions extremely HARD! I also went last month to get my sick asthmatic 1 year his very important inhaler and they gave use such a hard time. After the 100th text they sent for me to update insurance I do that. I called and asked was it in the system I was told just bring it in and it'll be the same time only to get there and they take over an hour and act like they didn't know what was going on....... but yet when I had Aetna and was paying for my medicine when I still worked it was easy as Pie!!!!!! How can you be racist at the pharmacy. I hate this place so much...... I will make sure to never return here. I will also make sure I report them to the insurance company to let them know that this place is wrongfully treating those with state insurance horribly. read more

Horrible service. I came to return several items in February, on a Saturday afternoon (4:00 PM). Because the total was over $50, the cashier say she can do the transaction without a manager authorization. They call someone from the back, who look like she was a middle eastern or India ethnicity. She was rude and then proceed to tell me that I have to come back Monday when the store manager can approve the returns. I had my receipts, the credit card used for the purchase, the items (all unopened). She say that I could go to another CVS and try to return there. I rarely makes return, but when I do, I never had any problem. This is unacceptable that I had to return Monday to return the items that I bought from the same store..and was given attitude. read more

Horrible. I ended up yelling at the pharmacy tech (I believe it was Abdul) for 10 minutes because he refused to give me my prescription. He was literally holding it behind his back and refused to hand it over. This was AFTER I had already paid! Afterwards, I kept thinking about the scenario and what I could have done differently to avoid getting into a yelling match with this guy. That was until I read all of the reviews on this page. I have been going to CVS (other locations) for all of my pharmacy needs over the last couple of years. While the staff at the pharmacy is nice. Thier system of doing things doesn't work. Every time I go in there it takes longer than expected to get my prescription,sometimes days and multiple visits. There is a line every time I have been there and the staff is constantly running across the pharmacy to ask the pharmacist every question a customer asks. Horrible! I have asthma and chest cold. Wasn't expecting much because I try to avoid CVS but on a trip and need prednisone. Told them emergency. Snippy girl told me to call back in an hour for status. Explained to her when/if go to hospital they'd triage me to front and was sorry to have to ask them to do so but it was an emergency. (I'd already missed a dosage because of the holiday.) Sorry--they're backed up. She hung up on me and I called back. Girl with Asian accent answered. I asked to speak with Pharmacist. She is too busy. Asked to speak to Pharmacy manager. Not in until 3 p.m. Asked to speak to store manager, Insan. He was VERY helpful. Told me I needed to speak with Grace. Grace turned out to be pharmacist and the girl with the Asian accent!! Wow. Awful. Excused ignorance from clerk, but from pharmacist! She knows asthma/prednisone likely emergency and she didn't care. Told her would not do business with her. Called Walgreens. TOTALLY different. Pleasant, helpful and called right away. But Ryan from Walgreens called me back. Grace went ahead transferred my prescription and now was telling Walgreen's that she was too busy. Told him to call back in 1/2 hour to see if they would transfer it then. Called Insan again. He walked back and stood there while they faxed it to Walgreen's. Grace should be fired, and I am pretty sure she was acting illegally in requesting a transfer without my permission... and then holding onto it after understanding that it was indeed an emergency. Cold, unfeeling incompetence. Stay away. read more

Staff were extremely helpful and helped me rather quickly as I was in a rush for my episode of Greys Anatomy and Scandal :) But seriously, the pharmacist was thorough in going over medication and the tech was extremely nice and managed my multiple accounts in the system very well. I stood in line with 8 other people while the pharmacy staff basically ignored us and started calling names of random prescriptions. None of which belonged to those of us in line. Sometimes this place enrages me (like *any* time I've ever had to fill a prescription), but then other times, the fact that it's open 24 hours and sells everything from toilet paper, random produce/fruits, snacks, to passport photos, and I find them redeeming themselves in my book. Since I live across the street, this love/hate relationship will probably continue for the foreseeable future.. but I'll say most days, I'm thankful for the option and services provided by this CVS. read more
