Not all chain pharmacies are the same. Back when there were more mini and medium chains, even some of the big boys like Sav-on Drugs and Thrifty had some heart. I didn't realize it when I was a little kid fanboying on Sav-on and Thrifty (which we called "Thrifty's," for some reason); but Longs was another drugstore that, despite being a multi-state chain, felt like a mom-and-pop operation. This is a review of the CVS on West Whittier Boulevard in La Habra, but this CVS used to be a Longs, and despite the CVSification that it has undergone--and it's definitely not the same as it was--it has, somehow, managed to retain some of its old charms. It's on the bigger side for Southern California CVS locations. It has a large center aisle helpfully aligned with the front doors, so as you enter, everything health- and hygiene-related is to your left, and all the junk food and gifts and drinks and household items are on your right. The pharmacy is at the back (obviously). The people who work here are universally nice. I'm a frequenter of CVSes large and small, so I know a little bit about dealing with CVS employees who don't want to deal with me, and I've had bad experiences at every single store--every store except for this one. Granted, I've never used the pharmacy, so there's that. They have self checkout, but unlike almost every other CVS location with those job-killing devices, they don't try to force you to use them. This location is actually much farther than the one closest to my parents' house (that one's within a mile), but I always go out of my way to come here, because I'm so sick of dealing with the sad-sack attitudes and annoying pestering of the employees there. And I know it's not totally random and is based on what and how frequently you buy, but this CVS seems to offer the most valuable coupons on its mile-long receipts. If you come around Christmas, they have firewood right near the entrance, and you don't even have to bring it to the register; just tell one of the employees that you're taking firewood on your way out, and they'll ring it up. Plus it's really good firewood, or at least it has been every fall and winter since 2020. I'm still sad that Longs is gone--that all of them are gone--but there is some solace in the smiling faces at this Longs-turned-CVS. read more

Ever since the pharmacy changes their automated system, it's been a nightmare to get a prescription refilled. The recorded message does not offer the option to enter a prescription number, instead the name of the drug needs to be stated. How many times can I say the name of the medication and be told I cannot be helped because the system doesn't recognize the name of the drug I'm saying? Even though the system JUST SAID THE NAME OF THE DRUG?! It's so infuriating, as soon as I can, I'm transferring my prescription to the Costco down the street. read more

As a healthcare provider, I can say the service that the pharmacist, Jessica Vo, provided me was both friendly and extremely professional. Although she knew I was in healthcare, she did not know that I have been a CMO for the US Military and a hiring authority for many different medical and healthcare positions throughout my career. If every pharmacist was a nice and professional as Jessica, patients would have much less to complain about visiting their local pharmacist. I hope the power to be at CVS sees this review. I believe Jessica has all the traits now to be promoted to the next position at CVS, whether that be regional pharmacist or area pharmacist. I can tell that the pharmacy techs enjoy working with her as well. There are too many pharmacists in the CVS stores that look like they are exhausted or are not really happy with their positions. I hope CVS will hire more pharmacists like Jessica and promote pharmacists with traits like Jessica! In addition, I have an Executive MBA with a specialization in Healthcare from a highly ranked UC institution and I hope Jessica never becomes a pharmacist who feels burnt out in healthcare! read more

I used to love this store and the pharmacy staff. I've developed something like a rash near my eyebrows. After learning what I have, I googled to see if there are any OTC soaps or creams and I was surprised to find that there are. I stopped by and waited to speak with the pharmacist, some tall Asian guy with glasses. He looked at me like I was speaking another language. He'd never heard of my condition and even after I showed him what it is, he just told me to get something from isle 13 on the left.????? DORK! After finding nothing I recognized, I returned to the pharmacy to ask where they have coconut oil. The girls had no idea what I was talking about. They sent me to the front cashier and, again, he didn't have a clue if, or where, it could be. USELESS!! Seriously, Vingh is the only one worth his weight in gold. The one I had already expired so I needed a new one , I use the one from L'Oréal Infallible it's SOOOO GOOD love it. Anyways I went to the register and she was willing to help me. I think costumers forget to smile at these cashiers because they go through so much already with other costumers if you know you know.. CVS Pharmacy - Makeup Goodies - Drugstores Near Me - LA HABRA, California

This CVS has incredibly rude staff members. I have gone there various times, and often, customer service is pretty bad. I have used their photo services before, and staff has misplaced orders or has treated me as though I was an inconvenience. We have let this slide and just ignored it. Today, my husband tried buying medicine off the shelf, and the woman at the counter was ridiculously rude with him. For whatever reason, the item was showing up on her screen as not an allowable item to sell (perhaps a recall on the item). Her reaction was to yank the item out of his hand and make him feel as though he was trying to steal or was buying illicit drugs. She was rude and condescending as though it was his fault for picking out the item from the shelf. A simple, "sorry, sir, looks like the system won't let me sell this item to you" is a standard response. Not an eye roll, horrible tone, and yanking something out of a customer's hand. We finally have had our last straw with this CVS! Someone needs to do customer service training with staff ASAP! read more

My neighborhood store, I probably frequent this place more than any other business... Not to sound like an alchi, but beer and wine prices are pretty much unbeatable here. I mean like a 12 pack of rolling rocks for $8 cheap. They also throw mad coupons at ya so that u come back. My pharmacy experience was terrible. Most of my maintenance medication is ordered through CVS Care Mart but they forgot to put my prescription on auto refill so I had to go to my local CVS to get a week supply until my prescription arrived. It was a terrible experience as neither company knew how to handle the situation and was promised by CVS I would get a call once it was handled and I never received a call. I got tired of waiting and had to call CVS Care Mart and I finally canceled my order through them so my local CVS can fill my prescription. The procedure wasn't hard to but somehow they waisted my time all day calling Care Mart to get a resolution. They are the professionals and you would think they should know the proper procedure in this circumstance. read more

This CVS location was one that I always avoided after it switched from the beloved Longs Drugs quite a few years ago. It was always so horrible (as my previous review detailed). Over the weekend, I needed to go in for some stuff for my Grandma... although I went there begrudgingly, I was curious to see how it was now that it had been renovated and updated along with the beautiful new shopping center. I entered in and my nose was shocked!! It no longer smelled like a geriatric ward and it was laid out like other CVS stores!! It actually was stocked with items and didn't feel deserted and outdated. I was happily impressed!! The store employees actually were helpful, for the most part, and seemed less zombie-ish. I think one of the ladies stocking the shelves actually smiled at me too! Whoa!! For the store itself, I will definitely not be afraid to come back. It looks beautiful and they did a great job at bringing it up to date and appealing! Nicely done!! The pharmacy, on the other hand, (although most of them have been there for years and are knowledgeable) left me completely annoyed by one of the people working back there. The manner in which I was talked to and her decision to judge what my Grandma's doctor was doing. It is none of her business and it is not her place to tell me her opinion. Even if she questioned it, she needs to shut her trap with her opinions or state them to customers in a polite and less self-righteous way. I left there with my Grandma's prescriptions angry and 100% annoyed. She wasn't even the pharmacist, she was a tech. Either way, she was completely wrong in tone, attitude and content. I will NEVER go to the pharmacy again, unless I'm the only one who can help my Grandma at the time. Shame on you, pharmacy, this girl needs to learn some bedside manners and manners in general! I'm very disappointed in the manager Daniel S. I was shopping for a thermometer for my toddler because our old one broke. I found one for a fantastic price. It was behind closed glass and was displayed as 17.95!! I was ecstatic! The sales associate Brandon helped me with my purchase. When he rang me up he informed me that the thermometer was priced incorrectly. It was 49.99 instead of 17.95. I was pretty bummed but since it was BEHIND GLASS, and HAD SEVERAL MORE THERMOMETERS BEHIND THE SAME PRICE. I figured he manager would honor their mistake. Well I was sadly mistaken. Brandon did his best to make it right. I really appreciate his efforts and I am satisfied with Brandon's customer service BUT the manager Daniel S really needs to make sure the associates are stocking their products correctly because this was such a big let down for me. This location has excellent service and the staff is incredibly friendly. I have been spending a great deal of time here lately due to my 8 week cough. I love the CVS night time cough syrup. I buy my Medicine then walk over to Northgate Market and eat something from their already made food in the court yard to wash down my cough syrup. read more

I will never use CVS pharmacy again. I brought in my prescription at noon and was told that the dosage didn't exist for my sons antibiotic and that they had to call the dentist (my son had 7 extractions yesterday). I was assured I would get a text when it was ready. At almost 3pm I still had no text. I called and talked to another pharmacist and she said "oh here it is I will call the doctor now and call you back" I waited two more hours and no call back. I called again and was told it was ready. So I drive here and it is now 6pm and I'm told the pharmacist has to mix it and she just went to lunch. I am now waiting another 30 minutes. So my son who has had his teeth extracted is still waiting to take his meds. UNACCEPTABLE read more

I am happy to report that this is one of the nicest CVS stores I've been to in a long time. It's not the biggest one, no, but it's well-stocked, clean, and the clerk/cashier was very friendly and helpful. I wish I got her name. She deserves a raise. Lately I've been annoyed with CVS in general, having been jerked around by pharmacy clerks and the stupid texts that inform me my prescriptions are ready hours AFTER I pick them up, and OVERCHARGED several times in the last couple of months. Maybe it's because of the havoc created by the lockdown? Who knows? But this is a fresh start. Compared to the other CVS' I've been to, this pharmacy has great customer service. The pharmacist and the techs are courteous and helpful. They let you know what's going on the phone and do not make false promises. Terrible pharmacy experience today. I'm diabetic and 38 weeks pregnant, in need of a refill of my insulin, which was called in hours earlier by my doctor. I go to pick it up, then I'm told it will be another half hour for it to be ready. No problem, I tell them I'll be back in a couple hours for it, as I had to go home real quick. When I return a few hours later, the same pharmacist tells me they're out of stock and have been for days. They don't expect to get it for a few more days and I'll have to go elsewhere if I need it now. Why was I not told this hours earlier? Complete disregard for customer service. No apology. No explanation. All I got was a blank stare when I asked her why she said it would be ready in 20 minutes when in fact they had nothing in stock for days. Not the first time I have had issues with the pharmacy at this location. The store is fine but I wouldn't recommend this pharmacy. read more

This is the most frustrating pharmacy visit ever. Kudos to Walter who was the only pharmacist doing anything and trying to hustle. Stormie is a joke, I'm absolutely shocked how someone that clueless can land any kind of job, not to mention as a pharmacy tech. I dropped a prescription off for my dad and was advised it would be 15 minutes. I checked in 30 minutes later and was advised it would be and additional 25 but Stormie assured me that mine was being expedited (psh). In total I waited over an hour for 1 prescription. Hello, I went into store to exchange a make-up item. (the original CVS did not have the right one. I checked the next day). I had peeled off the item code. I had my receipt from another store. There wasn't another item with the same code for the returned item. Dan the store supervisor was great in helping me out. He called the original CVS that I bought the item from and got the item code. They're not terrible but they're not great. More than once I've had to wait an obscene amount of time for a prescription to be filled. I've had one sent the day prior in late afternoon, only to go around noon the following day and be told it still wasn't ready. Really? Another 10 minutes? Uhm, okay....So I wait those 10 minutes....and another 10 minutes.....and I go up and it's still not ready. Seriously? It's fricken La Habra. I get that it's the land of old people but how many fricken prescriptions are you completing on a daily basis that you can't fill one sent nearly 24 hours ago and need another 20+ minutes once the person comes to pick it up in person the next day?! I went to CVS AFTER WORK TODAY to pick up a knee sleeve (which I found on-line this morning) and called this CVS store to confirm that they had it in stock). When I got there, they did not have anymore on the shelf. I asked for assistance and explained to the guy what I was looking for and if they had anymore in stock. He states if they were not on the shelves, then they were out. So I asked him if he can Cal another CVS in the area to see if they had any in stock he automatically told me No he could not. I asked him why not? He said because he didn't have the stock number. I told him again that I did have it w a picture and all the info since I had already called this morning about it and I still have the info on my cell phone. He refused to look at the information and again stated no he will not call any other CVS for me. The customer service there is extremely rude!!! Nope, never again. Used to love it when it was Long's. Not anymore. Had prescription called in on Saturday from my vet. Called Monday mid afternoon. Well, we didn't fill it because we didn't have any of your information. We will do it now. Went down to pick it up, wrong dosage. Called my vet and asked. Sure enough, they didn't do it right. Had switched my other prescriptions to Rite-aid when they closed at 2:00 p.m. everyday without any notice -- and phone voice mail said they were open until 9:00 p.m. The people working there are extremely incompetent and very slow. Not sure where they shopped their employees from. Place is dirty, old, looks worn out. Don't go there. There are other much nicer pharmacies. I think they have been skating on Long's wonderful reputation and great store. I give them another 6 to 8 months and they are gone unless corporate holds them up. read more

The pharmacy has gone down hill since they made the switch, worst wait time for any pharmacy ever. Seems like every couple months I having issues with prescriptions that doctor sends over. Stopped in Friday evening at 6pm, prescription in hand, husband in the car returning from emergency shoulder surgery. Was told they wouldn't have time to fill prescription, as there were to many ahead of me, I was the only one there. She said others were in the system and pharmacist had to do those by the end of shift which was almost 2 hours away. I was told go somewhere else if I really needed it. Worst customer service ever! Always a long wait. Three months in a row there service said my order was ready but when I got there it wasn't even filled. The pharmacy technicians and pharmacists here are amazing. They're constantly working and dealing with rude customers, I wonder how they keep a smile on their face. If I've ever had any problems regarding my prescription, billing or refills, they help me to the best of their ability. I don't think people truly understand how busy a pharmacy can get and how stressful it can be to work for demanding customers who all want their prescriptions at the very instant they show up. The neat thing about this pharmacy is that they will send you text alerts when your prescription is filled. I can imagine it gets very frustrating working with whiny customers but everytime, and i genuinely mean everytime, I'm there they are always calm and helpful. Maybe if the other customers showed a little respect they would get respect back, but I digress. Generally, they ask if you want to stay in the store and wait for it to be filled or if you'll be back later. if you choose the latter and opt in for text message updates you will get a text notifying you when you're prescription has been filled. Overall the pharmacists and technicians are respectful, competent, professional, educated and friendly even though they are always probably stressed and tired. read more

They were really nice when I took my grandmother in here to get her flu shot. The person giving the shot didn't look before jabbing it in her arm and was done in about 2 seconds, still, it was okay. I go here for lumch sometimes with my friends, they are friendly enough toward high schoolers. Usually there is only the pharmasists and one or two employees visable, the reviews saying it is empty and creepy with zombielike employees are true. It's not a bad experience, just average read more
