The cashiers are always very friendly and nice. They always try to answer my questions

Ive been getting my same medications here every single month for 4yrs now. Its gotten worse and worse!! Even though my medications are put in their system months in advance (my doc puts in 3 months at a time)....they still never fill them on time unless I call and ask them to fill them. Nothing in their system notifies them that theres a script that should be filled that day. The past 6 months they didnt have my pain meds in stock so I had to switch the dosage. Today when I called I was told it was "too early" and I had to wait 2 more days. I went back and checked the refill date and today was DEFINITELY the date....plus I have no meds after today. When I call back some rude lady told me they dont have ANY dosage/amount in stock and have no clue when they will have them. I asked WHY was I not told this when I called this morning to fill the script? She said the pharmacist....who went thru the computer, saw my script, and told me it would be ready in two days....didnt know it was on back order?!!!! HOW DOES THE PHARMACIST NOT KNOW THIS???? When they just pulled the script up to tell me to get in it 2 more days it should have told them/me THEN that it was not in stock. Zero help. Rude AF. Switching pharmacys after 4yrs to somebody who actually has my meds and treats their long standing customers with respect. read more

If I could give this CVS location negative stars I would. Few weeks back I scheduled an appointment for a flu shot here on a Saturday morning. The morning of, I got an e-mail reminder for my appointment and a text-message confirming my appointment. As I show up to the pharmacy a few minutes early, I'm told by the pharmacist/assistant that they're backordered on flu shots and they're unsure when they'll get them back in. Thank you for the multitude of confirmations, they were helpful. Tonight, I show up at the pharmacy at about 8:50 p.m. looking for some specific medicines. Granted, it's 10 minutes before close and we all hate being that guy or gal who shows up at the last second, but by my count there were at least 4-5 people behind the pharmacy at that time. Real customer service is dead. They sent me to the aisle where my medicine was supposed to be. After perusing the aisle for a few minutes, I could hear the window shutters slam shut. They could've taken a brisk walk to show me where it was, or possibly wasn't. Heaven forbid they all stay a minute past closing. By the time it was 9pm- they were all out of the pharmacy and already in the parking lot. Honestly probably the least helpful CVS in the area. read more

Had to pick up a prescription for an oral rinse today. With no insurance, the cost was $12. I was pleasantly surprised when the pharmacist gave me a discount. I paid $5.32 for the 16-ounce rinse. Thank you!! More than made up for the miscommunication re/flu shot 2 months ago. read more

CVS Pharmacy - Drugstores Near Me - Castro Valley, California

Back in the day this used to be a Long's where I would go to develop film. I loved going there. I'm not really sure when this changed to a CVS. Glad its still a pharmacy. I don't think the inside (or outside) looks as nice as it once did. I do like how the parking lot is never super crowded, nor the store. Yes, there have been multiple times where I've had to wait in a semi-long line, but the wait was never excruciating and service at the checkout and pharmacy have been pleasant. I do choose to go here vs. Rite Aid or Walgreens probably based off an old habit (I did go into Rite Aid with my grandparents sometimes as a kid and that building is huge). I probably stepped into the Walgreens inside The Village like 1-2x when I was at CVHS. Today I tried using the pharmacy drive-thru for the first time because it seemed like it would be faster and I wanted to try it. I think staying in the parking spot I had originally pulled into and walking in to pick-up would have been faster. Once at the window, they were polite and overall was a good experience. Now I will know what to expect next time, if I so choose. This was also the spot where I got my booster shot. Super quick (faster than the drive-thru time) from speaking to someone at the window to getting my shot. Then, they ask that you stick around for the next 10 minutes (you can walk around the store or sit in one of the chairs by the pharmacy) in case you have a bad reaction. In total, it probably took 12 minutes. read more

I have to dock a star because they never have enough registers open. I'm here often and no matter the time of day there are no more than two open at a time. Even during the holiday season or peak hours of the day, the line is always foolishly long. They need to have express checkout or something for those of us coming in to buy one or two items. Complete incompetents working here. I had a Doctor change locations over a year ago but these guys keep sending prescription requests to his previous location. Old office then declines the prescription so I run out of meds. I have called them over 10 times asking to update the records. Every time they say it has been taken care of but the same thing keeps happening. They simply don't care about your health. I finally am changing pharmacies. These people should lose their license. read more

I'm hoping to bump the star quality of this CVS up, because I've NEVER had issues with this location (save one one-off that I'll chalk up to a bad day). I see other folks' complaints (some of which are super old). I do agree it looks like it's about to go out-of-business every time I've stopped by, but it could be how they're organizing their space, or people are afraid of patronizing the location because of its low-star reviews. (The parking lot is never full) However, the pharmacy has always been great, and their customer service reps have always been helpful and cheerful (something I think some people take for granted). I would go so far to say they even look out for you! This is the only CVS in my home city, but I could go to a closer pharmacy (Walgreens or even Safeway) and choose to come here. They've been awesome and convenient since we moved here in 2015 (through 2 pregnancies, deliveries, and various other aches and ailments)! They always have what I need. If you find you're a high maintenance customer (or short on time), then maybe this place isn't the best spot, but even when I've been in a rush, I don't find myself frustrated with any of the employees. Please give this place a shot if you're either new to the area or visiting and need a quick stopover! read more

Sorry wrong review. Should be for rite aid on Castro valley. Wow are they going out of business??? Store looks stripped like they are trying fill with misc junk!! Ugly over priced random furniture. Came in to just buy bottle of Bactine antiseptic. They did not have it or anything comparable. Wouldn't trust buying anything here esp drugs and perishables as its probably all old stock. If I could give them no stars I would. Used them several years ago and stopped due to VERY slow service and poor record keeping in getting RX's filled. Today the doctors office mistakenly sent here instead of regular pharmacy, electronically at 2:00. Called several times to see when it would be done and each time I got it's currently be filled. At 6:00 I called and still being filled. I asked if I can down in an hour would it be done and got a vague yes. 7:00 and just tired to pick it up and now they say will not be done today! It's just antibiotics for gods sake. How hard is it to fill an RX for antibiotic. The counter lady just kept saying over and over and over they are an extremely busy pharmacy, extremely busy. If your that busy then hire more people for heavens sake!!!!!! read more

Normally I like coming here although there is a particular older employee with died red hair, that is always so rude. I now hate coming here due to her and try to avoid the my pick ups when she's working. She has a snarky attitude on simple things like asking for your name but she can't hear you, or asking why my prescription isn't ready yet, she'll give you a bad attitude and rude replies. This has been on multiple occasions. Never had any issues with any other staff or location in the past. I will be switching pharmacies if this continues. read more

Open til midnight a place to grab a few items and get out fast. Strange fuzzy carpet tiles that look impossible to keep clean are everywhere, but the layout of this store seems more intuitive than nearby Walgreens and more efficient than the huge Rite Aid. A respectable automotive section and the late hours are what lured me in. I went into the CVS store in Castro Valley, CA to purchase a household product. I went in with my certified service dog. The store manager, Chuck, asked if it was a service dog. I replied yes. He then asked me if I had documentation. I told him that according to ADA of 1990 he was not allowed to ask yet I still showed him the certified documentation. My dog is a certified medical seizure response dog. Once I told him that according to the ADA of 1990 he was not allowed to ask me for documentation, he became belligerent and rude and told me, "As the store manager I can ask anyone anything." Rather than argue with him I provided him an ADA informational card (see pic) that showed what in accordance with the ADA a business may ask and what they may not ask. I left that document with him for future reference. Before leaving the store I asked his name and he replied "Chuck" and then continued to be rude and belligerent. CVS needs to train their employees and specifically their managers about the law specifically the ADA of 1990 and most importantly they need to train Chuck on how to communicate respectfully with customers. In fact, they should find another store manager. Chuck is bad for business and his initial approach was rude and unprofessional. I will no longer go to CVS and will go to Walgreens in Castro Valley -- Walgreens is a much better store anyway. read more

Just got the rudest service from a cashier named Tina. I hadn't been to CVS for a while and don't plan on coming back at this point. I was buying some Christmas candy from the clearance aisle and it came up regular price. I saw that it came up regular price and she ignored me when I mentioned it. Then she finished bringing up my purchases and told me to pay. I said the candy came up regular price it is Christmas candy and I got it from the clearance area. She said there's nothing she can do because it came up the way it did. I asked her if she can discount it. She said no and then literally threw it to the side. I asked her for somebody else there that can discount the candy and she said that the manager can but she's on lunch break. She said you can wait 20 minutes if you want. I asked if she can call her to get authorization to discount the candy. She said no. Unbelievable. Left all my purchases there and won't be back. read more

I think most people review pharmacies after having bad experiences. We've all been there and it's usually the fault of the insurance companies or doctors/clinics. These experiences can be awful, especially if you're sick or in pain and not getting what you need OR finding out it will cost you an arm and a leg. For me it's how the staff handles these hiccups that makes the biggest differences. After experiencing several unfortunate insurance related events while using Walgreens I ended up needing to go to CVS because they were the only one who had the medicine I needed. What a huge difference. I never had to bother them to contact doctors or insurers and fix problems because they were already one step ahead of the game. The cashiers are consistently kind and amicable. And sometimes straight up cheery. I received an outpouring of sympathy from one cashier after limping in in horrible pain. Unlike other pharmacies, you do not have to wait two hours for narcotics. Which is a blessing when you're in a real actual pain. They took excellent care of me after finding out my seizure meds we're going to cost $700 because I lost my insurance. And it's always embarrassing to cry in public but that's what I did. They took me to the side and were able to get me a few pills I needed until my insurance kicked in. Unlike the other reviews stated, I have never seen a long line there. 90% of the time there's no line or there's just one person. If you're thinking of making a switch, I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed. I don't give a lot of reviews but after seeing only two stars for CVS in Castro Valley I had to do what I can to get the ratings up. read more

I called to get help filling my prescription as I'm Not from here. The woman I spoke to was incredibly rude and impatient and cut me off several times while I was trying to explain my situation. She then said "well we can't help you especially at a time like this" (referring to corona virus). But just because there is a crisis doesn't mean that I don't still need my prescriptions as well. As the old saying goes, three strikes, your out! In February a sales clerk was rude to my wife. Luckily a manager was available at that time and immediately apologized. Last month the same sales clerk was rude to me. She wouldn't honor a CVS coupon and she wouldn't give me the time of day when I tried to show her the coupon exclusions. This time, I waited 15 minutes for a manager, nobody showed up. At least in my opinion none of us should have to wait 15 minutes to get a problem resolved by a manager. As long as CVS has sales clerk with an attitude and don't seem to care, my business will go to Walgreens just down the street. read more

After five hours in the ER, I just wanted to have my son's Rx filled and take him home. Dropped off the script and was repeatedly asked my name (ok, it's Japanese), my address, and health insurance information. Fine, ready in 20 minutes. Upon returning, I was again given an integration as to my identity (none of the Rx were "controlled substances). "They are for my son (standing next to me)." My kid didn't bring his ID. "Huff" The name for the script was mine. I explained it was for my son. Short answer was CVS had the wrong patient, wrong address. A 20 minute trip to get an Rx filled is now 45 minutes. I am so sick and tired of coupons we can add on our card but never work at the cashier. Once again I put on my card a coupon for sensodyme, and the cashier couldn't see it!!! What a scam. Purchased a cooler for 38 bucks. It did not keep my items cold enough so I returned it 3 days later but had lost my receipt. I was given store credit for 19.11 by the cashier. So I said wait this thing is 38 bucks. So the guy tells his store manager. The manager comes over and says it's on sale. So I show him a my card on my phone showing date of purchase from this store 34.99 cooler which with cv taxes comes out to be 38.11 dare someone to tell me the math don't make sense. Even after all that I was told too bad bc you lost your receipt. So I'm like 19.11 naw I'm not returning this. Then I was told by the manager the transaction was completed the return is done. I'm like what. Bc you guys messed up and did a gift card for 19.11 now I can't take this cooler back? This is as bad as stealing from me. So I write a review on the purchase I get a sorry we didn't meet your expectations go check the return policy. Does the return policy state you can rip people off on a return with no receipt? Or force a return when someone after finding out they got less than value of purchase item can't take back the item? This used to be my to go place for my prescriptions and other items. Now no more. I will go to Walgreens instead and I hope you go out of business. Conveniently discount an item after I purchased it and then tell me oh I don't know when it was discounted. You're a store manager you don't know when your items were discounted? Ridiculous and rip off. I only wanted a fair exchange nothing more nothing less. Instead I get a bs we can't meet your expectations email and bad service with no intentions to meet expectations. This pharmacy uses expired vaccines to administer to clients :-(. Don't trust pre- filled syringes that are ready to be administered, especially for your flu vaccine, COVID injections etc. Ask to see the vial and make sure the date and vaccine is correct and ask to draw from that vial that you have verified. My family, friends, and I will never go this CVS pharmacy again. read more

I can't believe what I get from my neighborhood CVS today. This new choppy guy at the cashier pretended to be courteous, but gave me such bad service with such an bad attitude. I first brought two similar sinus rinsing packets to ask him to check price, since I couldn't find them where they were stocked. He told me to turn back to the isle to check myself and he would be waiting for me. I thought -- that was not diligent of him when he could check it easily now at the counter. Then I brought the long list to CVS coupons that I got from last visit by the cashier, and asked him which one I can use for my purchase. He told me to find the right one myself. I showed one of them to him. Then he asked me to cut it out myself. I was fed up with him at this point and walked away. If a service person in CVS has customers do everything beside taking money, why don't they simply use self check out machine?? Even Stores that use those machines will have a live person who is usually very helpful. Shame on this guy. The worst service continues. L I S A in the RX Dept really should think about a career change. I think her personality or lack of empathy professionalism is pretty deplorable. She is continually being rude snarky answers back and could really give a S*** about the people that she interacts with. This CVS has gotten better the longer it's been open. They're starting to have more of the stuff I need, but it's organized so strangely that I can never find it. I filled out their "we're watching everything you buy and pretending to give you discounts" card when the clerk hassled me that first time, months ago (and yes, I was shaken down), but I'm still not in their system. So I get harrassed every time I'm in to "join." When I tell them I already have, they nod and tell me it can take months to get into the system. Months?! Who's doing their data entry? In terms of CV drugstores, I like CVS more than Walgreen's, but less than Rite Aid. There you have it. read more

I've been a pharmacy customer at this specific CVS pharmacy for about a year now, and I'm taking my business elsewhere immediately. If you need your prescriptions, you can't trust this pharmacy to provide it to you. SHORT RATING If you go here, be prepared to deal with: - Horrible customer service - Incompetent pharmacy - Pharm techs hanging up on you immediately if you call, or make you wait on the phone 20 minutes then hang up on you - Pharmacists/techs making false promises of ordering your meds but won't actually do so - Staff telling you they'll call you back and won't - Store always looks like it's about to go out of business (worse kept than a ghetto Dollar Tree) -------------------------------------------------------------- LONG RATING For the past year, they've been "okay." The wait is a hit or miss, the store itself always looks like it's about to go out of business, and the pharmacist/ pharm techs customer service has been hit or miss (some are really nice and others are real a--holes). Why did I still come here? Simply because it's close and convenient. No more... I called in last Thursday (it's Monday) to get my prescription refilled. The pharm tech was really nice about it and said they don't have any in stock but can get them in Friday. I call Friday morning and they guaranteed it will be there that evening... nope. Not there. It's Monday and I drop by after work thinking, they've got to have it by now... wrong! When I get to the drive-thru area, the pharm tech initially tells me to repark my car (trying to get me to get out of the drive-thru zone so as not to block other customers - even though there were none behind me), wait 10-15min, and she'll call me to get my meds. I stop her and ask her to confirm they have the meds in stock... she reluctantly does so and confirms they don't have the meds in stock. I told her about how I ordered the meds on Thursday and the pharm tech says she's not sure what happened. She told me she'd call other CVSs to see if they have any in stock and I impatiently agree (what choice do I have?). A couple of hours go by and she never calls me back. I finally call CVS to ask them to transfer my prescription to another pharmacy. 1st attempt: I get to a pharm tech; she tells me there's one person ahead of me and to hold before I can say anything, and then immediately hangs up on me. 2nd attempt: I get to a pharm tech; she tells me to hold before I can say anything, I proceed to hold for 20 minutes, then a pharm tech picks up and says, "What can I help you with? Actually please hold just a moment..." She puts me on hold and hangs up again. 3rd attempt: I get to the pharm tech, she tells me to hold and that there are three people ahead of me. I stop her immediately and tell her that she hung up on me twice and I'm sure I'm ahead of those callers. She rudely replies, "Then what do you want?" I told her I need to transfer my prescriptions to Walgreens. She says, "Fine." and hangs up immediately after. I call Walgreens 30 min later to confirm they received my prescription (and they haven't) Walgreens' pharmacist was really nice, but told me their experience talking to CVS was similar to mine. CVS called them to tell them they're transferring a prescription, the CVS pharm tech told Walgreens that she would need to have the pharmacist talk to Walgreens pharmacist, then puts Walgreens on hold, and hangs up. Whoever that CVS pharm tech is, that b*tch needs to be fired immediately. She either is so f*ckin stupid she doesn't know how to use the "hold" feature on the phone, or she's just a senseless b*tch who's literally f*ckin with people's lives by depriving them of their medicine. Either/or, her b*tchy attitude is enough to deserve to get fired. Don't take this job if you can't perform it. read more

This particular CVS store is espescially difficult to work with. I called 3 hours ago after speaking to my doctor. I asked if the rep if she could call and my dr to authorize a refill and that he was waiting for the call. She said his office was most likely closed. I told her he was waiting for them to call right this moment and I expressed the need for the meds right away. She said she would call. Apparently she did not. 2 hours later I was told my doctor left a voicemail and I would have to wait until the pharmacist came back from lunch to check them. I called an hour later just now and was informed my doctor didn't leave a voicemail and the pharmacist JUST called my doctor. Its 7:30 now. "His office must be closed now". Funny I was told by someone there the would call three hours ago. Not only that, the people I spoke with were condescending, over talked me, and gave extremely poor customer service. Honestly, I am astounded by this. Having worked in customer service for 14 years, this is just completely unacceptable. I recommend taking names of people you spoke with. Often times they will say something will be ready at a certain times and when I go its not. That's happened the last two prescriptions I have filled. To sum it up, they make you feel unimportant, they are extremely unwilling to help, and are disorganized and give incorrect information. I would avoid this pharmacy like the plague. Wow....has this place taken a dive since it was Long's. Once again, as usual, arrived to pick up my medications and after 4 days still not ready. This place used to be spot on 100% and for the last 6 months they only got it right once. After complaining for months I grabbed another manager today to let him know the situation and why I would NEVER return to CVS, I'm D-O-N-E. Everyone has been very nice but there is no execution when an order is placed. In order to maintain my proper blood pressure I now have to move my prescriptions to Walgreens. 6 months is long enough to wait to get this nonsense fixed so I'm out. I can get all the other crap they sell there elsewhere and lower prices and without a 10ft reciept of coupons for a 99 cent purchase. Really went downhill when it became CVS. It was just ok when it was Longs but now no longer meets my minimum standards to do business with them. I smirk when I see their advertising campaign that boasts about prescriptions always being ready on time; in my experience they are never ready on time. While I am waiting for 15-20 minutes after the time they said they would be ready, I always hear a succession of other suckers, sorry, customers, getting the same stupid runaround: "No, I'm sorry, it's not ready yet. Can you wait a few minutes? Yes, we've been busy. Sorry." Why would anyone put up with service as poor as this when they have a choice? read more

This is by far the worse pharmacy ever! They told me they need to order my medicine and calm me tomorrow . Well I had to call them and they told me they don't have my prescription. Finally they found it and they forgot to order it. The next day they said it hasn't come in yet. It took five days to fill the prescription. And when I came in to pick it up they said they hadn't filled the prescription yet. I asked for my prescription back. Refused to give it back. Another time they took an hour and a half to fill one prescription. Right now I am waiting in the drive-in and I have been waiting for 47 minutes and there has only been one car in front of me. I have written this entire review sitting here. Update: I got to the window and they said they have to order my prescription and it will take five days to get in. read more

This place is okay, but I liked Long's better. I don't like the carpet. It's starting to look a bit shabby and I see no reason it should stay. Love that RedBox is here. I can usually find what I'm looking for, but I really only go here when I need something and don't want to make the trip to Walmart. I always try to bring a coupon to make my purchases worthwhile.
