Visited on a Wednesday evening with high expectations and was severely let down. Had been looking forward to it for months based on a previous visit years ago and more recent reports from ppl I know. I'll say that the service was top tier. Our waitress was kind and polite. The vibe was nice with old school reggae playing at a nice volume. We had jerk shrimp tacos for an appetizer and they were really good. Fresh and not too much spice. I ordered the red snapper escovitch style and my date ordered it brown stew style. First of all the snapper was entirely too small. My escovitch did not have any peppers at all just picked onions and carrots. The rice and peas was very dry--I should have known when I was offered oxtail gravy to top it. None of my food was hot. The cabbage had a good taste. My date's collard greens tasted like they were Glory Greens from a can. There were at least 4 parties that came in after us and received their food before us--we thought it was just a red snapper thing and that our food would be hot and fresh. Boy were we wrong. Maybe we'll go back and try something a little more basic like curry or jerk chicken, but it's a long drive for disappointment. read more

There is no reason why a solo diner should be subjected to that and we should be made aware BEFORE dining. Bargain jerk chicken lunch special with 2 sides for $9.99! Friendly, fast, and informative service from Courtney. She advised I stick with collard greens and red beans with rice and ox tail gravy; so glad I listened. While keeping our drinks constantly refilled, she shared their Curry Chicken is becoming more popular than Jerk Chicken. My dark meat jerk meal was heat hot and smelled oh so good. Chicken had the perfect cook that created a Smokey flavor with a welcomed bite of heat after chewing. Way different from Carib Shack in Va Beach but definitely on park quality wise. I loved the Ox tail gravy, guess you'd say it was Cardi-Yak arrest?!? Greens were also hit, fresh and flavorful. I never thought that I would find such wonderful Jamaican food in this town. Unfortunately, we went too late and the place was at max capacity for indoor dining. But regardless, take out was just as scrumptious and tasty as if we were eating food at the restaurant. We ordered the lamb chops and the jerk chicken. The food was so flavorful that the rice soaking in the gravy from the chicken was even more tasty the next day. A couple other notes: Ambiance 4/5 - A festive, fun bar area that I'd love to go back to for a sports event. Service 3.5/5 - They're a bit busy so you'll have to work to get their attention. We've been going here when they were on Battlefield Blvd. Food so good, we followed them to their new location on Eden Way. Last time we went, they had a live band and it was . And it was packed, super busy. Very friendly staff. Clean, which is a plus for me. That last star is always saved for cleanliness, and they get it. The BAR: Trash. Don't even attempt to get a grown drink in here like upper level Bourbons, whiskeys, tequilas. They measure in the smallest shot container you ever seen in your life. Bartenders rude all night. Putting folks drinks on other folks tab and though it was funny. Mixed drinks with bottom shelf liquor, just bad. It has also been one of the most recommended restaurants in Chesapeake. The high caliber reviews from local Elites tell a story of how strong the business has been for years. I'm really late, but totally get the hype. The location off Battlefield is terrific, but it is hidden as it sits off the road. Parking is spacious and it was overall pretty clean with minor debris. The outside may fool ya as it's nothing special. However, just trust that you have arrived at the right place for some of the best Caribbean food in the area. When entering I was immediately greeted and offered a booth or the bar. My visit was right at open for a weekday lunch. I saw no other customers when entering, but shortly after several to go orders picked up and a steady flow began. The interior is casual with a Caribbean vibe. The lime green colors accented by white is comforting. The spacious bar offers cocktails, beer and wine. They dining room is spacious with overflow event area. Island music was the perfect touch to pull the setting together. The restrooms are in the rear by the kitchen. The Men's room was small, but clean with proper supplies. My waitress was fantastic from beginning to end and made appropriate recommendations with regards to dishes. Most importantly steering away from selections that brought too much heat. I loved her energy about the menu and quality of food. I was warned portions are large. My order was the lunch special for $10. Jerk Chicken w/ rice & plantains. It took a mere 15 minutes for a large hot plate with wonderful aromas of curry to appear. The meal was excellent! Every bite offered an opportunity for my taste buds to rejoice with a hallelujah! The plantains were so good I ordered an additional side. I'm going the distance with a 5 Star review. This was a bit of a struggle after a single visit. I've been to Cutless Grill multiple times and my last visit I was disappointed. I was unaware the kitchen closes at a certain time on Saturdays. Upon my arrival I realized that it turns into a club and they charge a cover at the door of $10. Once we walked in to find a seat there were no servers to serve us unless you were sitting at the bar. Wish I could leave 0 stars, but 1 will have to do i guess... I'll keep this short and to the point. We walked in and immediately noticed a sign that read "18% SERVICE CHARGE AUTOMATICALLY ADDED"... I'm assuming not many people leave tips because that's really the only time I see a sign like that. I'm really not that surprised because the service was HORRIBLE! We were seated and no one bother to come and take our order. No one came to check in us. No one offered us any water... NOTHING! Finally decided to go someplace else and proceeded to walk out. Saw SEVERAL employees standing around talking. I doubt anyone even noticed that we left. What a shame. Will definitely NOT come back and will share this experience to all who will listen. Appetizer must - the beef pies. I have had the salmon dish and highly recommend this exquisite dish! A friend of mine claims it's the best salmon she had ever had! Now about that new policy they have in place , so whatever you order , and whether you're a small party, if you're just getting a small appetizer, a drink whatever- there is an automatic 20% charge. I've only seen that applied with big parties . I always tip well so I wasn't too bothered, But a customer next to got really upset about that and that's totally understandable too. So just heads up on that charge. Also, their "Specials" of the day caught me off guard this time too, for me "specials" are usually reasonably priced like a good deal option, I love me a good deal! Got the special and it was $40 bucks, it was pricey. Maybe I have a misunderstanding of what a special is. And while he apologized saying there was "so much going on" I on several occasions witnessed him lolli-gagging in the kitchen and around the restaurant. Every time we need something refills, napkins, to go plate and the check we had to look around from him. For our to go utensils and tab we finally asked another waiter who brought the containers. Mark brought the terminal to our table and left it for us to complete payment on our own which we had an issue but figured it. Thankfully we aren't the type to walkout on a check. If you are going to charge automatic gratuity your service experience should be top tier. Went to Cutlass Grille on Father's Day 2023. Each plate was $55. As soon as I went in, I got a bad vibe from the hostess and a lady by the name of Jay. Who is our waitress. I guess Jay did not want to work anymore that day, and the host told her to take us. It took over 25 minutes to get water or anything to drink and 15 minutes just to get silverware. I've been to this location, 100 times and this by far what is the worst. We had reservations, and we were just thrown in the corner. This was my first time eating at this location inside normally I get my food to go. This will be the last time I ever eat inside. Customer service was not of an essence, especially for Father's Day. My family did not have a good time eating and to be honest I was not comfortable paying $55 per plate for four people. It was not worth it. Two stars because food was good, but not a good quality and poor customer service. read more

Cutlass grille never misses, best rum punch in the city and the red snapper always HITS! I've had the curry chicken, curry shrimp, mini beef patties and many other items and they we all delicious. There's usually some sort of entertainment and they servers and waitresses are always very pleasant and educated on the menu items which helps if you want to try something new! read more

I've been to this place when it was at a different location - tried the ox tails a few times as well as the jerk chicken. Oxtails were overly salted on the 3 occasions I got them, and the jerk chicken was bland - only the skin seemed to have any flavor. Figured things improved at this new location. Went to the new location (for to go orders-can't see myself paying an 18% surcharge just for dining in). I ordered the white and dark meat Jerk Chicken plates. I got Mac & Cheese, Greens, and peas & rice for sides. For desert, I tried the mango coconut bread pudding, and the carrot cake. I'll start with the atmosphere...its nice, colorful and inviting decor is a great improvement from the other location. The food was ok. The chicken was still pretty bland; the greens and peas & rice were great, but the mac & cheese, any of my 3 kids can blow it out of the water. Now, the deserts...the carrot cake, there's no way around it - it's horrible! It was dry, bland and the icing seemed more cream cheese than anything...not good at all! The bread pudding tasted "synthetic"...still trying to find the words to describe it! The syrup that it came in tasted like a cross between sweetened plastic (or some sort of artificial sweetener) and some sort of cough suppressant (that still does it no justice in describing it). The "mango" pieces in the bread pudding were a bit rubbery and chewy and tasted like they came from a can. As for the coconut, still trying to figure out where that was...maybe it was it oil, syrup, artificial flavoring, etc...but no sign nor flavor profile that indicated that there was coconut in it. I've honestly given this brand my share of tries...I'm just gonna stick to M&P and Happy Time Food Mart...definitely not as nice, or in as nice of an area...but definitely far more scratch made tasting. If anything, I thank this place for reaffirming the need and benefits of cooking more and eating out less...and when I do, stick to the tried and true. read more

Oxtails was good too but the portion size for $29 was not really adequate in my opinion! Jerk chicken was good but i had better jerk chicken before. Too bad they couldn't serve any alcoholic beverages in the new location yet because of their licence. Now the staff was so friendly and we felt really welcomed !
