We ordered the Choley & Lamb Kebabs (special). Both were delicious! Of note, vegetarian dishes are slightly cheaper here than at Curry House in Humble but fewer options for meat dishes. read more

Our first visit to this little Indian Restaurant and it turned out to be a hidden gem in the neighborhood. Who knew? We shared the vegetable pakora as an appetizer at the recommendation of the chef/owner, and it was a delicious start to the meal - breaded veggies with an addictive spice and a tasty mint chutney. And a couple of Kingfisher beers... Dinner for her was the Jahengiri Pilaf, fresh, expertly cooked rice with a fantastic taste combination. I had the lamb biryani - it was a very generous portion which I ate until I was scraping the plate, and every bite was terrific - it was literally the most tender, tasteful lamb I've eaten. The restaurant was very clean and comfortable, the service was personable and efficient and the restaurant as a whole has a welcoming feel. The food was outstanding. We love independent restaurants that serve fresh, innovative, well prepared food. While there are unfortunately only a few in the Humble area, the good news here is that there is one more - Curry Sultan. Look for it behind Coach's Sports Bar - it's definitely worth a visit. read more

Very happy to see this Indian Restuarant in the Humble area! More like mom was back in the kitchen than a typical Restuarant. Chef Russell delivers the secret to great Indian food...quality ingredients and fresh spices. All the extra oil that typically ruin Indian food is avoided here. What I was left with was ALL YUM!!! read more

Very good food..Chef Russell is a very grasious host, we will be back !! A few things need to be addressed because of newly opened business.

Our food was very delicious! This was our first time and we really enjoyed the flavors of our food. I was very surprised by Chef Russell's attentiveness and I was pleased to see him provide excellent superior customer service. Thank you and we will see you soon. read more

This place was pretty good. This was just my first visit. The people are friendly. The food was real good. It was hot both in temperature and heat. That is the way I ordered it. The let you choose you heat. I ordered the Beef Kofta with a side of Naan. The Naan was fresh. Not pre made or store bought. The only reason I did not rate it five stars is because I do not give anyplace five on the first visit. I will adjust after future trips. read more

Awesome food, very authentic, great service! We've both dined in and ordered delivery on a few occasions in the past two months. We were very pleased each time! Highly recommend! read more

Hi, I am Alex i have ordered a delivery of chicken masala and samosas, big samosas filled completely with minced meet. Mint chatni and raita were also good. Chicken masala I have ordered hot, chicken was cooked perfect. The chilli past was spot on very hot the way I like but chicken masala is a gravy/curry dish only thing was missing was a heavy whipping cream and little yogurt to simmer chicken boti pieces and chilli paste. Other then that it was ok. read more

I'm from NJ where there is a heavy Indian population with GOOD Indian food. I've missed it!! I was so happy to see this place pop up on 1960. I would have been happy with anything with curry in it, but this guy really knows what he's doing - a pleasant surprise I wasn't expecting in Texas. Great food. read more

For our first time trying the Curry Sultan we had the Vindaloo Chicken, Lamb Kabobs, Butter Chicken a rice dish and nahn - all of which were out of this world mouth watering dishes. The food and the service is excellent, don't let the location or decor fool you. The food is the best Indian food you will ever have. read more

Go expecting a warm, receiving atmosphere.. I felt relaxed and homey as soon as i walked in.. It is not the fanciest place but it doesn't need to be.. After all my girlfriend and i were here for the food and to try something different from what seems like every other tex mex, bar/restaurant in the atascocita area.. My gf and i didnt know much about indian food but the waiter helped us answer questions about the menu and some dishes.. And also came back out to make sure we enjoyed it and wanted our honest opinion.. Honestly the food was amazing. My gf and i shared the beef kofta (indian style meatballs in curry sauce) and chicken vindaloo ( chicken curry with potatoes) So simple but sooo flavorful.. The chef's goal as written on the menu is to provide fresh flavorful food that has great flavor from the first to the last bite.. And that couldnt be truer.. We will definitely be back to the restaurant and this place is definitely going to the top of my restaurant take out lists too!! Give the food a try.. Im sure you'll love it! read more

Food is great! I didn't know what to order but the staff was awesome at helping me pick out dishes. Everything was hot and fresh. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!!! read more

In Houston for the first time and wanted Indian dinner with family. Google gave suggestion about this place and we gave it a go. And it's one of the best Indian restaurant I had. Even the chef Rammaswammy offered me to show his kitchen and his fridges. He make al dishes from scratch and not frozen. Good and quick services too. And it's not pricy at all. Over all it's good food and good price. read more

Indian is my favorite cuisine by far, so I was ecstatic to learn Curry Sultan had opened so close to home, and more than excited for my first visit. Unfortunately, I do not share the same opinion as other guests. Yes, the owner/chef is engaging and enthusiastic, but that's perhaps the only positive observation I can make ... and I have never before written a negative review about any product or service I've ever purchased. (I tend to embrace the old adage, if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.) The vegetable samosas were filled with a puree whose texture rivaled paste, not the succulent spiced filling with diced vegetables I adore in delicate pastry. The Chicken Tikka Masala tasted like chunks of chicken in bargain spaghetti sauce. The texture and flavor of the Lamb Korma sauce (typically among my favorite Indian dishes) was off-putting, at best. I tried a second bite simply to ensure my first impression/reaction was accurate. It was. I enjoyed the Butter Chicken more than the other dishes, but it was far from the best I've had. In fact, I would not have recognized the dish had I not ordered it. The Garlic Naan was flavorless and burned on both sides. To be fair, the Basmati Rice was excellent. I travel extensively for business and leisure, and have enjoyed Indian cuisine in many countries. I always have requested containers for the leftovers, even if I had to eat them cold in the hotel room the next day. That was not the case at Curry Sultan. It saddens me to report that I did not enjoy the dishes enough to reheat any of them at home, and we left about half of each dish at the restaurant. If you are a lover of Indian cuisine, I encourage you to try Curry Sultan since all others on Yelp have posted glowing or positive reviews. Perhaps I simply visited on an "off day" for the kitchen. However, if today's experience is, in fact, their standard, I cannot in good conscience recommend to family and friends, and I will not return, despite the economical prices. read more

Really good Indian food finally comes to Atascocita. The food was great--highly recommend the paalak chaat appetizer. It was delicious and my 2-year old even loved it. We shared beef kofta, chicken tikka masala, and paalak paneer. All were great. Service was very friendly, and enjoyed getting to speak with Chef Russell for a bit. We will certainly be back. read more

Spinach Chat was very unique. Chef and staff were very helpful. Veg thali was ok, for my taste, it lacked spices. Worth a visit.

Had lunch here for the first time. Everyone was extremely friendly and service was very good. The vegetable pekora and the Chicken Biryani were excellent. The Lamb Vindaloo special was also very good. Will definitely return. read more

The daal I usually order at other places is more of a porridge type consistency, but this one was more like a soup, it was different but in a good way,but hot DAMN was it good, I can say it was the best tasting daal if had in a while, the regular naan were good but the garlic naan were top notch stuff, I will most definitely swing by again in the future read more

First time Indian meal. Excellent. Had the shrimp biryani and it was wonderful. I got it on the low spice end and it was perfect but too spicy for my friend who is sensitive to spices. I'd never had anything like it! Ate the leftovers the next day and they were still great! I will be back. My only confusion was that their name suggests curry would be on the menu but I did not see any. None the less, my main course was wonderful. The naan was just OK, probably wouldn't order again except to cool the spice. We had the garlic naan. Very clean atmosphere as well which is always nice for a local spot! read more

Came here for lunch. Delicious food, attentive service, and great atmosphere! Most definitely will be coming back for seconds and thirds!

Delicious food! This place makes supporting small businesses easy, well worth my money. My mom and I have a new favorite Indian food place.

Great find in a hidden humble area. Interesting and relaxing ambiance with a lovely, cozy aroma when you walk in. The ingredients are fresh and authentic. I strongly recommend the malai kofta for an interesting vegetarian dish. The naans are fluffy and crisp in all the right ways. The rotis have a warm comforting homemade taste, and the kheer dessert is sweet and rich- a perfect ending. I will come back to try more dishes for sure as the menu has a great combination of southern Indian vegetarian and northern Indian meats. This place is a must try for locals and possibly worth the drive for those who want an adventure that are farther away. Also a great intimate place for a date if you want to explore something new together. read more

This intimate and cozy restaurant with remarkable home style Indian entrees is located in the Humble area. The service was great and everyone was polite and efficient with cleaning up the empty plates so more could come. This was our first visit however, my husband and I plan to make regular visits after today. We each began with a Mango Lassi (Classic Indian smoothie made with yogurt and mango), while we waited for our appetizers. We had Vegetable Pakora and Shrimp Pakora, they were both great. For our main dishes, we chose the Chicken Tikka Masala which is a classic dish cooked with ground spices in a tomato based sauce; Shrimp Biryani which is served on a bed of basmati rice, Lamb Kebabs made with ground Ozzie Lamb cooked with exotic spices and served with aromatic basmati rice and raita; and Garlic Naan. We ended our meal with Indian donuts called Gulab Jamun (Wonderful!). Each dish was freshly cooked and seasoned with it's own spices and herbs which came out smelling savory and appetizing. The prices are extremely affordable and we look forward to returning again to experience the delights and decipher the mysterious enigmas that are wrapped in every dish in each of the regions of India. We had an unforgettable experience from entrance to exit. read more

Wonderful Indian food in an unassuming strip mall in Humble. Owner was very attentive. Try this place

This was some of the best Indian food I've ever had. I ordered the samosas and the Lamb vindaloo. The lamb was very tender and the spice was perfect! The music was a bit loud for my preference and the owner was quick to turn it down. read more

I am puzzled by all of the positive reviews. Let me preface this by saying that I wanted this place to succeed. I met Chef Russell when he was in the process of setting up the restaurant. I went to the soft opening and ordered chicken tikka masala, lamb biryani and an appetizer. The taste was unrecognizable. The chicken tikka tasted like tomato paste and the lamb biryani tasted like dirty rice. I figured that since it was a soft opening, they were trying to iron out the kinks. I thought I would wait about a month and order the butter chicken. I ordered the butter chicken and garlic naan. Is it possible to screw up garlic naan? Yes. This garlic naan was naan with garlic layered on top. Theoretically, this qualifies as garlic naan, but it tasted like naan with raw garlic on it. Again, I looked at reviews by others and noticed a lot of negative reviews. The chef's excuse was that there was something off with the recipe. I figured that the explanation seemed reasonable, but I would wait a long time before re-ordering. So, today, we ordered lamb biryani, butter chicken and garlic naan. Again, the naan was terrible. The butter chicken tastes like some kind of chicken with curry, but not butter chicken. Finally, the biryani edged closed to tasting like biryani, but still would be more aptly described as dirty rice made with basmati rice that is undercooked with some Indian spices. We have given this restaurant enough tries. It is just not that good. If you want real Indian food, do yourself a favor and drive down 1960 towards 59. Regardless, I see that the Chef attacks those who negatively post about his restaurant. One of his responses is that the patron does not know what the food should taste like or that it is different in different places. Initially, I have had proper Indian food it great restaurants in Houston, Chicago, New York and London just to name a few places. The food from Curry Sultan tastes nothing like any of those restaurants. More importantly, I am of Indian descent. So, when my mom who rarely utters anything negatives tells me to not order from this place again, you know that something is lacking. Had I not known that I was ordering from an Indian restaurant and had I not known what butter chicken or lamb biryani were supposed to taste like, then I would say that the biryani was an okay rice dish. The lamb was dry and the amount of biryani for the price was less than is expected. The curry was salty, but the chicken was decent. I ordered all of the food as takeout so I cannot make any comments on service or the ambiance of the restaurant. . While I applaud the chef for hiring local kids and being a "mom-and-pop" restaurant, this is not a good Indian restaurant. The concept is fine, but the execution is sorely lacking. read more

I have been here several times and have never been disappointed. The Tikka chicken and butter chicken have always been great. The garlic naan and shrimp pakora we're really good tasting as well. I enjoy supporting small business instead of chain eateries. I will continue to recommend Curry Sultan for great tasting and authentic Indian cuisine. read more

It was my family's first time here and we were not disappointed! Will definitely come back! The beef samosas were amazing!

I wish I had taken some pictures before we devoured our delicious meal! First of all, Indian food is not one of my favorites because the flavors are often too strong. I'm all about spice, but there's no need to drown the food with it. The chef at Curry Sultan gets it! My daughter and I ordered Butter Chicken and Chicken Biryani, both of which were delicious. We ordered medium spice, but will probably go with hot next time. My aunt had Malai Kofta, and mild was just right for her. We will definitely return! read more

WOW WOW!!! Was heading to the Hampton Inn when I saw the Curry Sultan sign. I knew I needed to go in because some of my friends call me the Sultan for no real reason. The place was closing but the owner still welcomed me in. I got a beer and he cooked the most delicious Indian food I have ever had... I have had lots of good Indian food this was much better. Butter chicken with garlic naan and rice!!! The best. I just moved to Houston this week. I can't wait to share this wonderful experience with my wife and baby daughter. ordered chicken tikka masala, two drinks, & garlic naan. sat here for 45 mins (literally) for only the two drinks to come out and the naan. the man tells me they didn't ever get my chicken tikka order, despite it being the FIRST thing i said. so i'd been sitting here for 45 mins for DRINKS AND BREAD?? not even my ACTUAL meal?? while people who ordered full meals AFTER me came and went before i even got anything (people who seemed to be friends of the owner at that). after i calmly explained this to the man he proceeded to be rude with me because i clearly wasn't happy about the situation although i was not yelling or anything. all this for him to finally call for my chicken tikka and it to come out in less than 10 mins...what was i here all this time for?? this food was not worth all this. rude. bad service. read more

I was very excited to have a new ethnic restaurant in our area and Curry Sultan is top notch in flavor! I had the Thali non-vegetarian. It is a sampler dish; you get a choice of two meat dishes and one vegetarian dish and it comes with basmati rice, Roti (which is like a giant tortilla chip made of lentil and rice flour) and Papad (which could be compared to a whole wheat thick tortilla). There are certain things you can get in this sampler, but you have plenty of selections. I ordered Beef Kofta and Chicken Tikki Masala as my meat dishes and Choley. The meal came out on a metal dish with four small metal bowls of the main dishes on top with the papad and roti. The smells coming off that metal plate were intoxicating; you smelled spicy heat and warm cinnamon amongst other tantalizing scents. The first bite I took was the Beef Kofta, which are smalls beef meatballs stewed Ina spicy tomato based sauce with onions and it was so good! The meatballs were cooked all the way through and the flavor of the meat was so comforting. Next I tried the Chicken Tikki Masala and it too had a slight spice and when mixed with the basmati rice was the perfect bite. The last of the main dishes was the Choley; which is a spiced stew of chick peas and potatoes with a delicious combination of spice and cinnamon that sent my tastebuds on their own journey of flavor and comfort. My friend ordered the Butter Chicken which she said was very, very good. Paalak paneer, which is Indian cheese in a spiced spinach sauce that was to die for, especially for dipping the bread in! And she also got the Malai Kofta which are potato dumplings in a spicy tomato based sauce and that was amazing as well. We also ordered a side of garlic naan bread, which was flavored perfectly and cooked just as well, chewy on the inside with a very slight crunch on the exterior. Everything was very delicious. The ambience of the restaurant could use some sprucing up; it was a little stark and not as inviting as the food is. The service was a little slow, but only having been open 3 weeks, there's plenty of time to work out the kinks. The staff was friendly and very helpful with the menu and very willing to answer any questions we had. The owner came and spoke to us at the table and he was very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend Curry Sultan and the dishes I had to anyone. Well done Curry Sultan, for a delicious culinary experience here in Humble (Atascocita), TX! read more

This little restaurant was pretty cute, had friendly and attentive staff. Our food came out pretty quickly and generally tasted good. The samosas were delicious and flavorful but the curries were a bit watery and barely had any spice. In terms of portions we had a generous amount of curry yet very little rice. The great part of this restaurant is that the price is very reasonable read more
