(This is my opinion though as every meal I tried was spicy) but non the less they were delicious. Wonderful and helpful staff and great portion sizes. Things to definitely try is first the mango lassi drink! Delicious!!! Don't knock until you've tried it! Then the burnt garlic fried rice with dynamite chicken or the chicken tikka masala also enjoyed the lamb masala. Their menu is a mixture of fusion and traditional Indian foods. The only thing I didn't enjoy that much was two of their deserts, the gulab jamun which is like donut holes soaked in sugar, it was overly sweet for me and then the gajar ka halwa which was like a sweet potato desert. Everything else was tasty and delicious and I truly had a great dinner.

It was a Friday evening, the day after Christmas 2025. We arrived here around 6:30pm and found parking fairly quickly. The restaurant at the time was not busy and we were seated almost immediately in the middle of the room. We spent about 10 minutes to decide on what to order and we opted to share family style. Our time here was about 1 hour or so, finally leaving around close to 8pm. It was definitely a nice place to be in, especially with Indian cuisine. The ambiance was nice and quiet. I guess we got the jackpot or avoided any dinner rush on a Friday night. We ended up ordering individually between us and added more food if needed. We ordered biryani, lamb korma, some spicy dumplings, tandoor chicken, which was nice and spicy, an order of veggie samosas, and of course, garlic naan to smooth things out. It was a feast for the eyes and taste buds. The staff here was very professional and dedicated to the food and cuisine that they serve every night. I did enjoy the restaurant's decor while we dined. The quality of the food and portions were adequate. You might want to do yourself a favor and come here, if you are in the Houston area and want to give tihs place a try. The overall experience here at The Monk's Indian Bistro was very good and quite a magical actually. It felt like a good place to go to when you are feeling Indian cuisine but don't want to drive around Houston looking for that sweet spot for lunch or dinner. The restaurant itself is visually beautiful and they try to make it upscale while being a good place to have your next meal. I particularly enjoyed the lamb korma and the tandoor chicken. They had forgotten to make the tandoor chicken after the rest of the order had been delivered already. We ended up having the tandoor chicken at the end of the meal. Everything was amazing and full of good flavors. It was a meal that filled our bellies and definitely was awesome. Maybe my friend decided to celebrate Christmas with us a day later. Who knows. Only thing I do know is that this place is very good and you should try it out sometime, if you are in the Humble area of Houston, Texas. Give it a try and you won't regret it. The Monk's Indian Bistro is located at 9626 FM 1960 Bypass Rd W in Humble, Texas. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, they have plenty of parking here for anyone and everyone who wishes to go here to have their slice of Indian fare. It's not too far from the Houston (IAH) international airport. There is always Uber and Lyft at your disposal, if you need them on demand. For the most part though, it was a delicious meal that will captivate you and your senses, not to mention your taste buds and everything that you are. While I have yet to immerse myself in the biriyani's, I know for a fact that the curries are amazing and I do enjoy the basmati rice and the garlic naan. My absolute favorite would be the tandoor chicken. Might need to see if I can find a recipe for that. In the meantime though, The Monk's Indian Bistro here in Houston, Texas is legit and definitely one you'd want to come to while you're traveling through Texas. It was definitely delicious and hope it will be for you. My friends and I enjoyed it. The spices can be overwhelming but it was good and helpful. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A+

This location has a banquet hall as well as a large restaurant that looked like it had seating for over 200 people. I went with their goat chops, beef bihari boti, goat shinwari karahi and naan. Goat chops ($27 - 5 pieces) - This is their most famous dish, and was the best Pakistani BBQ spiced item I have ever tried! The goat chops were so tender, juicy and had such flavorful spices. I can't stop thinking about these! Beef bihari boti ($13 - 6 pieces) - This was another impressive dish, consisting of 6 tenderized boneless pieces of beef prepared in some bold spices which utilized papaya and yogurt. Goat shinwari karahi ($21) - While the karahi was good and flavorful, I don't feel this particular karahi was as bold and strong as regular karahis I have had elsewhere. This restaurant offers several types of karahi, and I should have gone with the standard karahi, but this was still good. Naan ($2) - This was extremely reasonably priced and the naan was pillowy soft. Overall I was impressed with the service here and the food. Aga's definitely lived up to the hype and I'm glad I got to try this Pakistani HALAL restaurant. This is a must visit for anyone visiting Houston!

They are a bit spicy, which doesn't bother me but they are too spicy for my daughter that eats nothing spicy. The Butter Chicken is delicious and not spicy at all, and their Garlic Naan is the ideal companion for scooping up every last bit of curry. The Service: Despite how busy they stay, the staff is remarkably efficient and attentive, ensuring that your water is filled and your courses arrive hot. The Vibe: It's a great spot for large groups or a nice dinner out. It feels upscale yet remains deeply rooted in traditional hospitality. OVERALL - The food was absolutely delicious. Whether you are a longtime fan of Indo-Pak cuisine or trying it for the first time, Aga's sets a very high bar. It's the kind of meal you'll find yourself craving again the very next day. Depending on what time you go you will have to wait more than just a few minutes. We went on Sunday afternoon and had a half an hour wait, but was worth the wait.

It's been about a decade since my last review of Govinda's shortly after they first opened so it's…read morehigh time that I finally update that review after being a repeat customer over that time. Lots of things changed but Govinda's largely stayed the same. The decor hasn't changed but there is some wear and tear on the walls. Still clean, food still reliably good and has the homemade taste. They change up the menu daily and now they have 3 all vegan menu days to the week: Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Plus, weekdays have a themed specials that aren't necessarily Indian. They post their menus online but weekday menus are posted the day of on their menu Instagram "ghmenu". Weekend menus are typically posted on Thursday. They are still a buffet so service is minimal but it is pretty good but no frills. Unfortunately, they got rid of their salted lassi years ago so they only have mango lassi now along with mint lemonade for cold drinks. Price has gone up as well to around $18 (a little more for holidays and weekends) per person but that's to be expected. Carry out is $16.95 per meal (large take out container plus a soup, roti, salad, papadam, and dessert). You can opt of out of items but you'll still pay the same price. In the past decade, I still love their food but I can no longer eat as much to make it worth it to dine in so we've been getting take out (we took a brief break from buffets but I missed them so we went the take out route). One take out meal lasts me 2 meals at home so it's a no brainer (husband finishes the take out container in one sitting though). Plus, I have kids now and they definitely aren't good eaters so it didn't make sense for them to eat in. Over the last few months in Houston, we typically go once every 2-3 weeks because my picky kids absolutely love their saag paneer. I got them al a carte saag paneer ($10 for a half container, $5 for a half container of rice, $7 for a small container of an entree) until someone there suggested I just order an entree because it's the same price but you get more. And their plastic containers are limited. I started doing it but then one day, the main guy (manager?) wasn't happy since the big container was just rice, saag paneer, and maybe a little bit of dal makhani. I was a little miffed because if we ate in and all they ate was saag paneer, it would be okay. That aside, I noticed someone mentioned food allergies. The reason why I order Al a carte and segregate their take out container is because my youngest is allergic to wheat, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, avocado, pineapple, and kiwi. Their food is usually labeled but I like asking to be sure. On days they serve something that contains nuts, we just don't go (unless it's only in the dessert). My kids usually like the same things and we only go on non-vegan days. The general consensus is vegan days' food tends to be spicier. My youngest is okay with spice, but my eldest who is super picky won't eat it if it's too spicy. Plus, I love their makai kofta. If I'm in town and I see they have makai kofta, we are THERE. However, I noticed that their menu isn't always set in stone. One day, they didn't have my favorites but we went because I didn't want to cook and THEY HAD MALAI KOFTA. I was so pleased. If you love potatoes, their batada vada is divine (but moderately spicy). I also enjoy the BBQ tofu but they usually only offer it on vegan days so I haven't had it in a long while. They have special menus on holidays but they're vegan so I have unfortunately never tried any holiday menus. We moved but when I'm in town, we make sure to drive up north to eat here at least once. We absolutely miss Govinda's and my kids ask for their beloved saag paneer even when we're not in Houston. I should ask if they can part with the recipe! Haha.... We ordered catering in 2024 for my eldest's birthday! Even the non-vegetarians enjoyed it and you get a lot of food for less than $500. You choose from certain dishes but it still covered many of my Govinda favorites, if not all. Honestly, we'd do it again just for fun with close friends and family and have leftovers for at least a week after splitting it up with everyone. Price has probably increased though.

The grounds of the temple is well manicured and neat with flowers. A big red sign read, "Govinda" was positioned so that I wouldn't miss it. As soon as I walked in at lunch time, the restaurant was damn near empty with only two families. The host immediately sat me at a table front of the buffet line. There was a strong lingering smell of pine-sol and Mr. Clean in the air. Of course, that indication told me that the restaurant was clean. The items on the buffet line was plenty, but limited. I got the rice, tofu curry, chaat marsala, and some vegetables. Everything except for the chaat was bland. It wasn't very easy to eat while the smell of cleaning supplies was in the air. It reminded me of sitting in a bucket of cleaning chemicals while eating a meal. The tofu curry tasted only like turmeric, but no salt or pepper or anything. The rice was super bland. The chaat marsala was very tasty and well seasoned. I finished off with desserts which both options were tasty. I hope to return to try their holiday menu, but I think today was a bad day for the cooks.

My husband is from India (Gujarat) so we eat authentic Indian food on a regular basis and we found the food here to be a different flavor than what we're used to, probably because it's more Pakistani than Indian in terms of flavor. Both of the curries we had were more sweet than what we're used to, but they weren't bad. Just didn't satisfy our cravings! My husband ordered the Paani Puri as it's his all-time favorite dish and they prepared it here much differently than what he's used to. He really wasn't a fan. Their Masala Fries (an appetizer), however, were absolutely incredible! I haven't had fries like this before and the crunch fries paired with the assorted sauce combination was so delicious. If you're looking for Indian food and are searching for a specific flavor palette, I might recommend trying elsewhere because your tastebuds might not be fully satisfied here. Otherwise, give this place a try as they have a variety of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options to choose from!

But the owner stopped us mid-menu and said, "No. I've got you." And THANK GOD he did, because what he brought out changed my entire understanding of what good food is. First came the cauliflower appetizer and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the single most amazing thing I have ever put in my mouth. Perfectly crispy, perfectly sauced, perfectly everything. I will be dreaming about that cauliflower for the rest of my life. Then he brought out two more dishes that were so good I had to just sit there in silence like I was having a spiritual awakening. You can feel the love and passion in his cooking. This man didn't just serve us food he served us his heart, his culture, his everything. The hospitality? Immaculate. You can tell this is his passion and it shines through every second you're there. Nicest man ever, best food ever, best experience ever. I am genuinely thankful to the universe for leading me to this restaurant. If you're wondering whether to go GO. And let him pick your food. Just trust the process. Absolute perfection.
