My previous review is from when this was Colonial Subaru; the business changed hands less than 2 years ago. I've been using this location for Subaru sales and service for 20+ years. It's rare to bring a car in for an inspection in the morning, and take a new car home in the afternoon, but that's what happened to me. It wasn't a complete surprise, just a little sooner than I expected. Todd was very friendly and helpful when I approached him early in the day with questions and the disclaimer "I'm not looking to buy a car right now I just want to compare 2 models for future reference." When I returned to the sales floor later he was incredibly patient as I navigated a purchase I wasn't quite prepared for. Todd was very informative about the options I was considering, and really won the day (and the sale) when the specific vehicle he brought over for me to check out was basically my dream car. I saw him approach that "autumn green metallic" Forester Wilderness and I knew I didn't stand a chance at resisting! When I came to take possession of the car Todd enthusiastically went over all the bells and whistles with me so I could be confident driving off the lot. He even made sure to show me how to turn off the features I didn't want. There's more I could say but you get the idea. I also MUST shout out to Tina, Ellen, and Buddy in the service department. I'm so glad the new owners kept them on bc they're the heart of this place. I have been a Subaru driver my entire life. I went to this dealership to trade-in my Subaru Impreza for a new Subaru and was met by one of the rudest salesperson I have ever met(Phil Fornica). He treated me like a child and was very unhelpful. At the end of the day, this ended up being a blessing in disguise because I now drive a Lexus and have never been happier. The service and reliability is much better than what I experienced with Subaru. I am a salesman myself and cannot believe how disrespectful and dismissive Phil was to a longstanding Subaru customer. Ever since Curry took over ownership from Colonial, I have had nothing but bad experiences in the service dept. Waits for an oil change can take up to three hours now, every time I come in for servicing. They charge for things over and above what you came in for and are unapologetic when you call them out on their errors. They will try to make stuff up just to make as much as they can on each visit. Their work is performed poorly and they really don't care much about you or your car which in my case was purchased through Colonial. And on top of that, they now nickel and dime you by charging a 2% fee for using a credit card. As a result, I will never service my car or buy a new one from this dealership ever again and I hope I can dissuade at least one person from going there. read more

One of the easiest car buying experiences I've had! We drove 2.5 hours to come to this dealership because of their outstanding customer service and willingness to "talk" via text. I've been on a crazy work project and text was pretty much my only option .....I could only check it a few times a day. They made it work. I would choose zero stars if I could. I recently had an issue with my 2017 forester having a loud noise sometimes when idling and not starting on 3 separate occasions. I had to have it towed to Subaru on the day I was having it checked. After checking out the car I was told that the engine was seized and it would cost $8000-$10000. immediately upon hearing this news Ellen Yerry said "Do you want to talk to someone in sales?" I was told that obviously the engine is seized since the sticker in my window shows I am 30000 miles over for an oil change and it looks like someone put fresh oil in after the fact. This assumption was wrong as I had had an oil change less than 2000 miles prior and had just had a 90000 mile check up at this dealership. I showed all the paperwork to prove this. The attitude at this dealership was "Oh Well, sometimes things just happen" as told to me by Buddy Schism, the service manager. This is the dealership that I bought my car from. I was skeptical from the moment I was asked if I wanted to talk to someone in sales. I had the car towed to 1st Place Auto and Tire. In less than 2 hours they had diagnosed that the engine WAS NOT seized and it turned out to be the air condition compressor and belt. Fixed at a cost of $1200 The customer service I received was cold and uncaring every step of the way. I was charged $75.00 to incorrectly diagnose my car My car never moved from where I had it towed in the parking lot. Instead of taking my car in and actually looking at it they assumed what the problem was. Buddy claimed he was going to talk to someone at corporate to see if there was anything they could do to help ( my extended full coverage had recently run out from the 5 year mark but was still under 100000 miles.) I don't believe that he tried to talk to anyone. I truly feel that they were trying to SCAM me into buying a new car OR the mechanics are completely incompetent. I called this dealer to let them know about my car being fixed etc. Ellen claimed she would let Buddy know. Haven't heard a peep in 5 days. Where is this so called LOVE Subaru? Colonial Subaru is fantastic. It is! Others on here (with whopping 2 reviews) are complaining. This Subaru dealership is solid: there are well-placed friendly front desks with ample room - waits are not long. There are rooms for reading, drinking coffee. Colonial Subaru has a very neat interior, that is set-up to evoke the 'homey'-ness of a small village garage or shop. Everyone is super talkative and friendly. The employees like working here and customers leave happy. Once, a mechanic came into the lot to check the front of my car; I gave him some snickers bars as an appreciation. I just bought an Outback from Curry and I found the experience quite good. Tony gave me no pressure. I used a car buying program through NYSUT which gave me various offers as well as potential trade value the car I was selling. The offers came from 4 different Subaru dealers within 75 miles. Curry was not one of them. Since I live in Kingston I decided to go to Curry to test drive the Outback. After I decided to buy it I showed them my best offer from a dealer 40 miles away and they matched it, both for best price and best trade in value. read more

I have been a Subaru Customer for years... Though admittedly not with Colonial Subaru in Kingston. WOW, is that going to change. My friends were without a vehicle and wanted to buy a subaru crosstrek. Easy enough or so I thought... What I didn't realize, the market is fairly dry AND if a dealer has one on the lot, they are charging a premium of 3k-5k - Trust me, we called 5 other places. First I can't believe dealerships are profiting off of Covid - it's just gross and bad bad business. Let's get to the good stuff. I sent a text to Colonial Subaru asking. Do you have any Crosstreks on the lot and immediately got a message back from Dan Ferrendino and called. He told me he had (exactly what they wanted) two, one was black limited without a sunroof. I asked if they were charging a premium and he said NO. We were about 45 minutes away and we began our trek. We got there about 11am and my friends were in their brand new gorgeous Subaru Crosstrek by 3pm. I am telling you, I live an hour away and I am going to be purchasing all of my cars from there. Needed to have a part replaced. One service tech says the part is no problem and they will order and replace NO CHARGE. Sounds great! That was a complete lie. Got a call part was in early, went in to pick it up and they handed me the boxes with zero offer to replace free or for a fee. If I had a MAJOR part to fix do, they just order and expect customers to figure it out? For years I've heard they are awful with service, now I know. went in for service, was over quoted for a minor problem. took my car to another mechanic and found out Subaru broke a stud on my car for the lugs and didn't say a word about it. Was ultimately unhappy with service of my Subaru. Wanted to buy another. Didn't like the salesman at all. So couldn't go back because I was too embarrassed to ask for another salesman. They were very expensive for maintenance of my car. When shopping for a new used car I ultimately didn't get another Subaru - I got a ford suv and love it. Glad my experiences here are over. If I could give more stars, I absolutely would. I put on a coat of metaphorical armor any time I enter a car dealership alone. I have never not felt intimidated, manipulated, or at least talked down to in these situations, even in a best case scenario. I am happy to say that in no way was that my experience here. I entered into this exchange with low hopes and an exhausted brain. Car shopping has a special way of stripping me of my will to live, generally. This was my seventh dealership in a week and I was at my wit's end. My nerves were calmed when Dave greeted me kindly within one minute of walking into the (beautifully decorated) sales office. I waited no more than five minutes to begin speaking with him about what I needed. My curt questions were answered, my needs anticipated, and my concerns *listened to*. I cannot stress enough how important that last bit is to me, and how rarely I encounter it in a sales environment. Dave laid out my options, offered me plans I wouldn't have considered myself, and found me a literal perfect car at a lower monthly rate than I could've dreamed. I expressed more than once that I was waiting for the other shoe to drop- that this process couldn't possibly be so simple. Dave had patience with me and assured me he would do his best to get me a good deal, and that is exactly what he did. He went to bat for me in terms of financing, with my trade in, and even stayed late to begin the paperwork. He got me my new car a day ahead of schedule and made me the happiest possible Subaru owner (in this area, at the very least). I cannot express my gratitude strongly enough for the experience that was created for me by Dave and the other members at Colonial Subaru. With less than perfect credit, a limited budget and a very guarded disposition- I was treated like a person who's time and self respect is just as important as anyone else's. It was a very unpleasant experience dealing with this dealership. You should try to avoid them. They never told me about their covid precautions when I made the appointment -- and a woman screamed at me hysterically when I opened their door and tried to enter. They could have informed about the procedure they want. They sold me a lemon and a worthless warranty. When I paid them to try to fix the problem of constantly flashing engine warning lights that prevented me from passing inspection they suggested $2,000 worth of parts that MIGHT fix the problem (plus labor) and more or less suggested I just trash the car. I drove 100 miles to test drive a WRX, after spending 1.5 hours with the dealer yesterday and agreeing to a price last night. When I got to Colonial Subaru of Kingston, New York I was informed that the owner, Mr. Murphy, stated that in order to test drive a vehicle I had to agree to and contract out the financing. Is this Subaru's new Corporate Policy that you have to buy it before you test drive it? Needless to say, I did not buy the vehicle. As I opened the trunk of my Subaru Forester this past Tuesday, I heard a loud pop and discovered that the trunk would not close. Fortunately, I was close to the dealership, where they immediately assured me that the problem would be taken care of. They quickly replaced the two rear trunk pistons and ascertained that the repair was covered under my extended warranty. The service was prompt and courteous. My husband and I were moving to the area and needed to buy two cars -- and were planning on only leasing one Subaru. We worked with Steve in the sales department, and he walked us through everything, showed us the various models, talked pros/cons, etc. We were both purchasing our first cars, even though we aren't so young ;), and this kind of attention to detail was really important. We test drove a couple cars on our own, and, in the end, decided to get two Subarus -- a 2016 Forrester XT and a 2016 Crosstrek. We love the cars and have had great follow-up service with Colonial. Steve has continued to answer all of our (sometimes probably pretty ridiculous) new car owner questions -- and the service department has been fantastic with answering everything else. Buying these cars was one of the things we were most nervous about, and I think that it's something that now makes us just feel pretty secure and happy. This comment is about the service at Colonial. I have never bought a car from them, and I'm not sure that I will, as the few times I've talked to a sales person, he was uninterested in discussing any incentive to lower the price on a car, even though I have been a patron of the service there for years, and have done many expensive repairs and replacements here. For this reason, I am likely to buy a car at a place that either 1) has the best price, plain and simple (they don't), or 2) acts like my business is valued. Now, on to the comment about the service: If you want cheap service with the bare minimum done, then go elsewhere. If you want quality service -- really thorough and thoughtful about your car and its problems -- then come here. Back in August, my 2008 Subaru Forester was outside in a very bad rain storm. Immediately after, the check engine light went off. I have an "Automatic" (little device that lets me read check engine lights by hooking it up to the car). I used it, and it gave me some message about wet circuitry and then told me I should clear the check engine light and then wait to see if it comes back on. I did just that and the light never came on again. Instead, it started stalling when idle. For the next several months, we would stall sporadically, when idle. Nobody could figure out the problem. I started making a mental list of when and where, and knew it had something to do with moisture, because it happened when it rained. I brought the car in for service at Colonial and at first they said there was nothing they could do without the check engine light going on, triggering a code. I was concerned because I have young kids and I can't be stalling out on the road. So, I started to prepare myself to get a new car, even though this one has 123K miles on it, a brand new head gasket replaced this summer ($1400!) and all sorts of replacement and service done on it, for years (timing belt, etc). I have kept it in impeccable shape. This was a huge disappointment. As a last ditch attempt, Colonial offered to hook up their computer and try to get the car to stall while hooked up, which would trigger the code, regardless of the check engine light. It rained over the weekend (which was perfect), and then on Monday, I got the call: coils wet, circuitry wet, still under warranty, free replacement, and I was charged only for the hookup of the computer! My car is as good as new, and I am overjoyed. I recommend Colonial Subaru service department, especially Ellen who works at the front desk. She knows cars, and she supports me as I learn more about mine. She also knows what it is like to be... well... a woman, operating in an overwhelmingly male-dominated space. I really appreciate her time and willingness to think through my car problems. Ellen also recognizes loyalty and how to treat customers well, as if their concerns matter. This is the second time I've had to write about Colonial Subaru. I bought mine a few years ago and always bring it in to be serviced. Today I got stuck deep in the woods and I killed my battery trying to get out and thought I had probably cracked my oil pan. After I called AAA, I called Colonial. And said I would probably be towed in. It was on a Friday about 2 pm and Ellen said I should bring it in though they would be able to work on it until Monday. They had no loaners to give me either. When I said I didn't know how I would get home Ellen said to just bring it in and we'll figure that out. It turned out I just had to be jump started and I drove home. Two minutes after I walked in, my phone rang and it was Ellen. Wow. She was checking in on me to see if I was ok. Now that is what I call REAL SERVICE. Service you seldom find in today's world. So I had to spread the word to let all SUBARU drivers know, this is where to buy and service your new Subaru or if you are buying your first... look no further than here. I've had three experiences with Colonial and they have all ended poorly. Shame on me for coming back. The sales department hides in their little cubicles and getting help feels like they are doing you a favor. It seems as if they could care less if you buy something which is pretty idiotic considering there are several much friendlier dealerships within a short distance. Over-the-top service department, and super friendly, low-pressure sales team! I've been a customer of Colonial Subaru for just over a year, and have nothing but high praise for their sales and service departments. Leasing my 2016 Outback was so painless, I had rented a car for the weekend to traipse from one dealer to the next to find the "best" deal, and my first stop was Colonial. They didn't know my big plan, but three test drives and three hours later, I had my car--Black Beauty, I call her. And while the service so far has been the standard maintenance check-ups, I had a particularly good experience a week ago. I had dropped a friend off at the train station, and the rear-gate stopped mid-stream and I couldn't close or open it with the remote or interior buttons. I called the service department and spoke with Ellen, who was worried my battery might die if I left the rear-gate open overnight. So she checked with the service department to see if they could squeeze in another appointment (it was already 3:00 PM), and 30 minutes later, the problem was solved. It turned out that my friend had tried to "assist" the rear-gate, pulling it to open faster, and that's when the thing just stopped. Another thoughtful safety measure by Subaru (I truly love these people). All it took was a system re-set, which Ellen also showed me how to do if I ever get stuck in that situation again. (Note to any other Outback owners who find themselves in this situation: Just hold the interior or rear-gate or remote button for 3-5 seconds until it beeps and the electronics will work normally again.) This experience reminded me of the genuine goodness you find in small towns, when people take a moment to consider your problem or need and take that extra step to show they care. It's moments like these that not only secure brand loyalty, but also make you feel like a person, not just a customer or a number. Thank you, Ellen!!! read more

Definitely now, 5 stars! David did an amazing job. He not only called us a week early of our car's arrival, he also made sure the price stayed exactly as we agreed upon when we first stopped by to make our car deal. I'm absolutely in love with our new Subaru. Well worth waiting only 2 weeks for it! Black leather as requested, black exterior as well. We took it for a drive, made sure everything was working fine, and David even gave us step-by-step "tutorials" of how to use everything in the car. He always returns our calls and makes sure we have everything we need. We can definitely say David is a great salesman because he keeps his word and genuinely works for us customers. We live in Watertown, about 4 hours away, and we definitely know it's worth the trip to go to Kingston to buy a car with Colonial. I'm not one to ever do negative reviews but as a new mom looking to simply upgrade my Subaru and trade in my existing one I feel it's important that I share my experience so that perhaps another family doesn't go through the same situation. If it was possible to give it zero stars I would. Especially since I gave the manager and opportunity to Take care of the issue. Unfortunately I just had the absolute worst car buying experience I have ever had in my life. After 3 visits to this dealership and 2 hours yesterday negotiating a deal I received an email that they're increasing the final price that was already given to me yesterday. As a new mom and owner of several Subarus I will never under any circumstance be coming back to this Subaru dealership. I have never before had a deal made on a car, printed up in black and white and then reneged when you come to do a test drive. This has been a true waste of my family's time and I could not be more disappointed with the quality of service at this dealership. If I could give a zero I would. I went in to get pricing on buying a car, given that I could not get anyone on the phone. To say that they were uninterested is an overstatement. someone begrudgingly asked if I need help and then the salesman who came over barely looked at me. When we went to his desk he spent several minutes straightening it up, did not say hello, did not introduce himself, did not even look at me. I assume their cars sell themselves because he had no interest in giving me information let alone trying to help me find a car. If I could give 0 stars I would've. Brought my older Subaru in for a FRONT PASSENGER airbag recall. I go back today to pick up my car and lo behold, the car is dead as a door nail. Okay no problem I get it jumped and I continue my visual inspection before leaving the lot. I get to the back of the car and my bike rack is completely messed up hanging on by 1 single clip instead of the 6 that are supposed to be there. On top of that, my entire trunk is also scratched up. I truly do not understand why the back of my car was even touched when the whole reason the car was there was for a FRONT PASSENGER, air bag recall. The service manager had nothing helpful to say except it wasn't there fault which is ridiculous. Will never ever go back to this dealership. read more

My wife and I went to Colonial Subaru last week. Looked at the three Assent's they had but not the right color. Dan the sales person said that is all they have and will not be getting any more until the 2021 models. Went to Mid Hudson Subaru in Wappingers Falls and found a color we liked and bought it. Dan the sales person from Colonial Subaru called my wife the other day and when she told him we bought one in the color we liked he became threatening and said he was going over to the service department to put our name on a list so we are the lowest priority when we call for an appointment and will never get a loaner car from them. Not a problem since there is no way we would ever go there for service with that kind of attitude. We looked at a lot of cars from other dealerships and they were very helpful in searching for what we wanted. They all followed up and thanked us for visiting their dealership. This guys hostile attitude and manner in speaking to my wife is inexcusable. read more
