You generally deal with Nick, the owner, every time bring your car there. I brought a car there that another local shop had quoted me a grand for a brake job I didn't need, without providing the quote I asked for re: the check engine light. Nick explained the diagnostic process and pricing, and I agreed to have him do it. The problem was nothing in a repair manual. Mice had chewed wiring. He diagnosed and repaired the damage (and checked the brakes) for barely $200. A couple times I tried to pay him for doing little things and he wouldn't let me. Nick seems to be a mechanic by choice ... a "car guy". But more importantly, he's extremely honest/ethical. Just remembered .... I brought a rusted Toyota Tacoma to him that needed several things done. He could have profited from the considerable work, but advised and showed me that the truck wouldn't pass inspection due to extensive frame rot (which Toyota refused to repair), and advised me to save my money. I took my Volvo s60 to Abbott's Automotive for a Timing belt change. I tried to take it to Wappingers Volvo for the service but they couldn't make a service reservation because they said "Their computer system was down nationwide". Frustrated because in the past I had to wait a few weeks for an appointment. Abbott's took me right in , gave me an estimate which included a water pump and took their time in getting this service right and on tack with the original estimate. Timing belt replacement is always a costly necessity but it would have cost me far more than I paid if I waited for Volvo Service. They communicated with me during the entire process and made me aware that my Volvo required a special timing tool, which they bought and installed the timing belt perfectly. I was driving the other day and the backside of my car collapsed. I was able to have it towed to Abbott's. The car was repairable, but it probably wouldn't be worth putting the money into it. Abbott's was 100% honest and transparent about this and did not try to take advantage. The car that probably won't last that much longer (it would have been around $2,000) to fix. Some places will take advantage and fix things that don't even need to be fixed. Instead, Abbott's was openly honest and even offered to help me dispose of the vehicle if I decided to go that route. I would 100% recommend Abbott automotive to anyone living in the High Falls/Stone Ridge/Rosendale area. They are honest and the customer service is amazing. This was my first time ever bringing a car to a mechanic and I was so impressed. Nick and his staff were all kind, honest, and helpful. I brought him my '02 VW Beetle at the recommendation of a friend after I was having fuel problems. Nick and his staff spent half the day working on it and then called me in. He explained to me that the work my car needed would cost more than the car was worth, as he'd found out while looking at my fuel problem that in addition to that, my transmission was going bad. He even offered to give me my money back since he couldn't really fix the problem but I refused. In the end, I left with great advice - when I could have easily been swayed by someone else to keep paying for work to be done. I went in yesterday morning after a scary noise became unbearable from my back tire. I called the shop as I had found it on Facebook and Nick said he could look at it that day. He was so friendly, kind, and understanding. My problem ended up being very small and inexpensive, which was a huge relief. On top of fixing that issue, he noticed my oil was overdo for a change and he did that for me to too. Honestly, this is the best place to go in this area and probably any area. Even though I had never used them before they treated me as a customer from the start. Very Professional and great communication. Everyone that I had any interaction with was knowledgeable and concerned about my problem. It was an extended warranty on my Prius and they explained in detail that the warranty company would need to check into the problem and then let me know what amount they would pay and what amount I would be responsible for. Met up with some friends at a local High Falls restaurant, and when I went out to my Jeep after the meal, it wouldn't start. Being an hour from home, I was totally at the mercy of the local garage, and I feared the worst.
