Joe at Red Hook Auto does great work at an affordable price, and quicky. He's no-nonsense and professional (don't expect long chats... this works to everyone's benefit as time = money). I've been to both chains and mom-and-pop shops in the area, and have often left feeling the job wasn't done well (which later bears out), takes too long, and/or I've been overcharged for the service. This is not the case at Red Hook Auto--Joe's fantastic at his job, honest, and incredibly efficient. He also gives great referrals (body shops and such) if needed. My car is going to be 24 years old this year, so you know I need a good mechanic. I'm also a very senior citizen so fixing small problems is not something I can do. I do worry about long trips (into Manhattan, Vermont and Pa.) so I really need my car to be safe. No, I can't afford a new car and these days, used cars are almost as expensive. I came here for an inspection because it was recommended. I drove from Kingston, yes there are plenty of places in Kingston to go to for an inspection.... BUT they will take advantage. I was greeted by polite staff. The place is clean and welcoming. Sometimes it can be intimidating going to a car shop being a girl, but I didn't feel that way at all coming here. A deceiving title shows a service-oriented business. Although there name says "Sales" in their title, don't be deceived. They are actually a mechanic's service business with fair-to good-quality employees who will treat you and your car with respect and the care it deserves. They won't oversell you on unnecessary work, and their prices are fair. Was heading north to go skiing with my buddies, when we pulled off the parkway we had picked up a machine bolt in my tire Pulled into Red Hook Auto and explained my problem Nice clean waiting room, pulled my car right in and had tire fixed in 10 minutes . Was more than fair with my bill. This business made what could have been a big problem , no big deal. If this is how they treat a stranger, I am sure their customers are very fortunate. Awesome family owned business who have a good old fashioned common sense approach in both practice and their pricing.

Joe, Pete and the rest of the mechanics are honest, forthright guys who do what's necessary to get your vehicle fixed. They never tell you that you need more work than you asked for unless they see it as a safety issue. If you want to see how good and popular they are with the local community check their lot at the end of a Friday (you'll see it's empty meaning they finished the queue of cars for that week) and then check their lot again on Sunday night and you'll see that their lot is full of the next week's work waiting to be completed in a timely and honest fashion. Have used RED HOOK Auto for 15 yrs! They are HONEST (a rare occurrence) in today's world. Ive complete trust in them.. I 've had ALL my vehicles worked on here & wouldn't consider taking them elsewhere. Dependable, integrity, as well as skilled/knowledgeable. Had a wheel bearing go in one of my wheels. They repaired it and charged me NOTHING! Joe checked his history on my car repairs, realized they had done it the prior year and said "it shouldn't have needed replacing".. I can't say enough good things about this place! I decided to bring my Subaru Forester there after hearing good reports from a few neighbors/friends. I had taken my car for an oil change someplace else and was told I needed to have some things fixed. I decided to get a second opinion and took my car to Red Hook Auto. The guys had my car for the whole afternoon, checked her out and then gave her back to me and told me nothing needed to be fixed right now and it was safe to drive in the shape it was. They could've easily ripped a female in her twenties off, but instead they were completely honest and didn't try to take my money from me. Best part of this story? They didn't charge me for looking at my car and having it for the whole afternoon! I was completely shocked that they didn't ask for any payment, so I decided I could pay them back by hopefully getting more business for them and writing a great review! This place was awesome and I definitely plan on being a customer for as long as I am in the area. Trustworthy, honest, and don't expect you to fix things that aren't broken. Can't beat that! read more
