I have had my car inspected by them ever year for the last 4 years and it turns out no one had ever checked behind my tire at my break line and while it was being driven the breaks almost stopped working completely. It is now at the point where I need a new custom break line run in my car by the dealership. It is UNFATHOMABLE how professionals could have missed something so severe and never once alerted me to the issue. I don't know anything about cars so I take it to people who, in theory, should. They are incredible Maintenance Mechanics. They really care for your car. They check everything bumper to bumper and only does what needs to be done. Never trying to find something else to charge you for ever. They don't work weekends and will always schedule your service for the following week and once you drop it off it's ready that same day always. Very reliable and trustworthy people. My Buick has 214,000 miles on it and with all they've done, it's good for another 150,00 yet to go. read more

My fathers truck went there for a check engine light and inspection. After smashing the frame with a hammer on both sides and charging him over $100 dollars, they said it wasn't passable. Any inspector that knows what they're doing would only poke a little hole. I know from my own experience working in a shop for years. Now I have to patch the frame myself. DISGUSTED and will NEVER bring any of mine or my friends or family's vehicles here ever again. read more

I have been going to Stofa's since 1992, and they have been the best mechanics I have ever encountered. They go above and beyond to make sure your car is safe and in good running condition. They know what they are doing, and do not push unnecessary work or parts on the client. All of the staff members are friendly and hard working. Stofas is so great! I've been with my mom and they treated her like gold, then I went for my own car and they treated me (as well as everyone else that walked in) like Gold! I have been told how great this place is many times and I was led to believe they were trustworthy, and they may be good mechanics, however they tried ripping me off two days in a row on two different vehicles. The first time they tried charging me almost $1,000. For tires that cost me about $650 to buy online, when I asked about this Jim told me I was going to spend the same amount after mounting and balancing (which is $20 a tire, not good math). The next day I brought my other car in which he told me needed new rear brakes (calipers, rotors, and pads) which he told me would cost $682!! I bought the parts at autozone for $280 and then found out I didn't even need calipers so it only cost me $70!!!! This guy has probably been ripping my family off for years. They may do great work in there o don't know but I'm telling you they are charging you way too much for it. Go somewhere else for your wallets sake! read more

Gave this place a one start becausr it wouldn't let me give it a zero. They may be great mechanics but it appeared to me based on my experience that their troubleshooting techniques were designed to milk the job in order to run up the man hours. With my avionics experience from the military and troubleshooting techniques I learned. Also they appear to be using the most expensive parts. Wiper blades were almost $50 to replace and they charged $91 for labor time to do the inspection. I have never paid labor costs in the 40 years I been driving for an inspection. read more

This is the best service center in the Hudson Valley, hands down. I have taken my cars to them for about 20 years now, referred by friends who took their cars to them for years. I have referred all of my friends and family to them, and those who have gone have all been happy with the service. They are not cheap, but they are reasonable, and they will tell you if something does NOT need fixing. They have three generations of Stofa's working there and all of their staff are friendly, competent and helpful. These guys are great. I desperately needed an oil change last minute before a long drive. I just walked in, told them what I needed and they said no problem. After I left, they called me to tell me my car inspection was expired so I asked them to do the inspection for me as well. Ya know I have doing business with this repair shop for 20 years and their customer service gets better and better- today the owner drove me home and ( 1 hour later) my car was ready - he called and brought me back to the station to get my car that was fixed and ready to go! They are honest and dont need to make stuff up about what is wrong with your car ( they are busy enough) When my low pressure light goes on in my car they cheerfully adjust the air in my tires and off I go! read more

I have been going to Stofa's for about 25 years and I have found them consistently first-rate. They remind you for routine service and inspections, they take good care of my car before I go on a trip where I'll be 1000 miles away for four weeks, and when some little thing goes wrong I can drop by and get it attended to. To my knowledge, they have never been wrong with a diagnosis. I cannot speak to Blake's experience, but I have never felt as though I have been ripped off -- I keep my cars for many miles (100K+) and none has had excessive work done on the brakes or any other part. RIght now I have a 2007 and a (bought used) 2012 car, both serviced by Stofa's since we bought them, both going strong, and both with, in my opinion, no excessive repairs or repair charges. (If you are a regular customer and break down in NC or CA, give them a call and they'll give you advice -- they know you and your car.) read more

Our new "car doctor". We hit a deer on the Taconic and had our car towed here. They were so great to work with and did a fabulous job. We explained to our daughter that the car was at the "car doctor". Like finding a good doctor, a good "car doctor" is someone you have to trust and who communicates well.
