Saw the good reviews and made an appointment for a diagnostic for an engine light and waited a week for their guy to come back from vacation. So I arrive at the appointment time and drop off car. Checked in 4 hours later as the car was in for a 1 hour top's diagnostic. Told it was still sitting outside and hadn't been looked at nor any time then it would. Asked them why they didn't call me prior or tell me when I checked in that they weren't going to do anything. It was a specific appointment for a specific service with a finite time. No explanation nor apology or really any cares that I was waiting. Could easily have come another time. So if you want to be treated as if your time isn't worth much and without any cares for their customers or pride in their business you should come here. read more

Very expensive for the work they did . Left a check engine light on in my friends vehicle. Also told him that they couldn't find the leak and that they cleaned the area and he should return in about a week or two . $1300 later it just wasn't worth it . read more

Wanted to like them, gave them several chances, trusted them with my car, too many bad experiences, unscrupulous, so, not going back. Claim to be "car safety renegades", but really, it's all about profit. Poor communication, hold their employees blameless, so, poor customer service. Don't do your car inspection there: deeper scrutiny than allowed in interest of profit. Their inspector's findings directly contradicted their recent prior assessment of my car, so I caught them in a lie. My car passed at a different place without the $600 of unnecessary repairs they claimed I needed to pass. Never going back. Worse than dealer for older car. read more

The experience here has gotten worse over the last two years. My last two visits were nightmares. The guy at the counter gives so much attitude and is not the least bit welcoming. Once again my car was ready when promised and there is no consideration of the customers time. This is two bad experiences in a row and I will not be back. They are great! They absolutely will take care of you. Rick behind the counter is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. If your car is out of warranty, they will do everything they can to fix your problem so that you are not stuck having to pay the ridiculous prices from your dealer. The first time I visited I was apprehensive because it's located right in the city of Poughkeepsie. However shortly after siting in the waiting room and actually seeing how they operate I became very comfortable. Since then I have been back at least 4 times to have a clutch repaired, oil change and now tires. Every time I come in Rick remembers me by name and we can have a conversation about almost anything. We recently purchased a 1979 VW bug and wanted to find an honest and reliable mechanic up here. We passed Foreign Car Specialists many times and noticed they always seemed to be busy AND that they often had older cars on their lot including vintage VW cars. We have used them several times for work on our VW and we also now use them to service our everyday family car. I feel they are a triple A rated mechanic shop and are very thorough. Very calm and professional auto repair services.. No matter what the emergency may be they approach it with reassuring confidence and humor. They work on many expensive foreign cars, yet they treat me and my poor beat up Nissan with the same respect. Also, they have been able to fix some of my car issues that other garages couldn't.. Great place if your kids are going to school and they need to get their car repaired completely reliable and fair price

My car is a ten year old VW, and unfortunately needs some work done. I had two issues I was mainly concerned about. I was told to drop my car off at 8 am and they would look at it when they have time.... And this shop is not close to where I live, but VW are tricky and usually need a specialist garage. It costs 161$ per concern!!!! 322$ just to look at my car, and none of it goes to the repair... that was the first blow. I call at 4 pm to see what the damage was and they were "just getting to it". My invoice was ready at 5:17pm. 3,000$ worth of work to be done. I go back the next day to pick it up after declining the work, and was being charged the full 2 hours of labor for looking at my car dead last that day. I brought up how I had an invoice a little after an hour after they said they started looking at my car, and the gentleman up front charged me for 1.5 hours instead. Had I not said anything they would happily have taken my money. Will not be going back to get the overpriced repairs done. My blue book value is barely the amount they would charge. read more

I recently bought my midlife crisis. A red convertible. Unfortunately not the 911 Carrera I wanted, but a VW Beetle. Also unfortunately I bought it from a shady dealer who screwed me like a big lightbulb. So now I have a car with bad brakes, among other things, that I am making payments on. I live near Foreign Car Specialists and drive past the place often. So I made an appointment to get my car checked out thoroughly. I was impressed with Rick, Kevin and the guys at Foreign Car Specialists. They completely inspected the car and gave me an honest assessment of the car. The good bad and the ugly. I wasn't happy about the long list of issues but I'm glad to know what I need to do now and what can wait. In a world where a lot of car repair facilities are out to sell you stuff you don't need, it's refreshing to see an honest shop. I will be going frequently for a while to correct the problems I have with my Bug. And after that I will be in for regular maintenance. If you have any foreign car issues,by all means try this place.
